The property was clean and very quiet, only the sounds of the jungle. Food was very good, refreshing swimming pool, comfortable beds, spacious rooms, but the standouts are the staff. Very warm and friendly staff, very accommodating. We left and went to the beach, too raucous, so we came back for the remainder of our time in Belize. Shout out to Giovanni, Nigel, Steve, Flora, Marcos, Raina, Marlin, and Mike. Don’t miss the bird walk and night walk in the jungle.

Love how green this resort is. Most of the food is grown on the property. The property is small and the staff give you lot of personal attention. All cabins have beautiful private decks, and they bring you coffee to your room in the morning so you can enjoy the peace and nature.

The room was large and very clean and the drivers were extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. Make sure to go zip lining, caving and check out the Mayan ruins…unforgettable!

It was a great room, the bed was slightly firm. No air conditioning in the room was a considerable drawback, but it had multiple ceiling fans. Staff was wonderful. Location is beautiful jungle setting along the river. Very nice.

Beautiful spot and great access to ATM cave. Only thing to be aware of is the prices at the restaurants are in US dollars not Belizian as they are in most places. We were quite surprised when we received our check out bill, as it was double what we thought we would pay.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Mystic River Resort! The location in the jungle, near the Macal River, is magical! ALL of the staff provided warm and exceptional customer service - special shout outs to Florita, Dervin, Steve, Ebias, Leo, and Augusto. The complimentary birding tour was a delight and a favorite of ours. The Guide was so knowledgeable (we can't remember his name - sorry!) but we loved seeing the birds and learning more about Belize/Belizean culture on our drive back to Belize City (he was also our driver). All of the food and drinks were incredible - we especially loved the buffet when we first arrived and the nice cold Belikin - some of the best food we had the entire trip! We also enjoyed a couples massage, which was so relaxing along the Macal River listening to the birds and water flow by. We loved our cottage as well - the bed was very comfortable, the fireplace made for a cozy, romantic setting, and the balcony was our favorite spot to enjoy the morning Coffee Basket! :) Gio and Sylvia were both very helpful in coordinating our excursions and activities, transportation, and answering our many questions! We definitely hope to return to Mystic River Resort again in the future! Thank you for setting the bar high for our Belizean adventure and helping us create such wonderful memories!

This resort is a slice of paradise. The employees made it heaven. They went out of their way every day to make us feel welcomed and as a vegan, had zero issues making nearly all my meals while I was there 4 days! The resort was super quiet, blended with nature perfectly, and met every need. Must do tours are Tikal and ATM cave, but be warned ATM requires physical ability to scramble huge rocks and is not for the claustrophobic.

This resort was disappointing overall. It’s located far from San Ignacio village, which meant that at night we felt pretty stuck on the property. Because of that, we had no real option other than eating at the hotel restaurant, where the prices are extremely high and the food was mediocre at best.

The grounds are attractive and the river access is nice, but the experience felt heavily focused on pushing paid tours and activities at inflated prices rather than creating a relaxing stay.

The room was just okay, somewhat outdated and not as clean as we would have expected.

While the setting has potential, the location, pricing, and overall value didn’t justify the cost.

Room was nice appointed and spacious. It had a spectacular balcony with a view of the river. Views from resto and bar equally gorgeous. Farm to table food at restaurant was also excellent, but cocktails from bar were mostly average. Staff was very attentive and friendly, especially at the restaurant.The property is generally nicely manicured, especially around the jungle pool. But some of the other trails could use a bit of maintenace and a refresh. For instance there are a lot of informational placards around about the local flora but they are mostly faded and unreadable. The organic bath amenities and body scrub provided was a nice touch. However, we were very disappointed to find that almost none of the complimentary canoes, kayaks or inner tubes for use on the river were in working order. That was a big draw for choosing to stay here and I'm surprised that they didn't have them ready to go for high season. Unfortunately had to ding a star for that.

Couldn't say enough great things about this place! It is truly a jungle paradise! The property is located on a huge piece of land overlooking the river, exceptionally well maintained, with exotic flowers everywhere, the peaceful views on the river with nothing but the birds as background, the hiking trails, everything is just wonderful! The room was very nice, rustic, and cool, with the fireplace as a very nice touch - it was a bit chilly in the evenings and we really enjoyed lighting the fire :). They also have a vegetable and fruit garden, which they use for the restaurant meals. The food was great - they have a Dinner special menu that's different every night and it was very good! And also very reasonably priced.
But most of all, it is truly the people that made the stay exceptional, everyone, from the reception to the gardener to the restaurant and bar staff to the random worker we'd meet while exploring the property grounds were just so nice and kind!
All in all, it exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful and beautiful place to stay between adventures in the area.

Clean room; shower a bit weak;
I suggest changing the lighting fixtures to all 3000K instead of mixing warm and cold colors. The cold color temperature really gives a cheap feel.

Service:
Nice staffs. Friendly owner.

Food:
Too expensive for the quality. Special dinner menu had no price written and surprised us how expensive it was for the small portion. Premium price is fine but the quality needs to match up. There are great restaurants in the village, and belize is not lack of good food. I think it's worth consulting a good reputable chelf to curate the menu for this hotel.

Wild life:
Monkeys are not there for December yet but lots of different types of birds. I enjoyed watching the feeding in the restaurant in the morning.

Additional thought:
The hotel is designed by the owner themselves and built by the staffs who are still working there. It brought a personal touch after talking to them and learning about how this place was established. Every stone work, every road design, was designed and made by these people who really loves this place. I think it's a missed opportunity that they don't show you that, you kind of have to find the right person to chat to and ask. We are lucky to made a friend there, and after learning about the history, was appreciating the place more.

We had a 12/10 experience!! The grounds are absolutely incredible of this resort. The accommodations are gorgeous (we stayed in a room with a small plunge pool and would highly recommend). The staff are so attentive and lovely - particularly Florita as our server encouraging us to try new foods ... All grown on site if you can believe it!! We did a few tours with Mystic River as well and had two amazing experiences with Leslie. His passion for bird watching was contagious! The food ... Incredible. Every meal was delicious. You must visit the onsite garden - I couldn't believe my eyes the variety of fruit and vegetables they were growing. I'm not sure I can say enough amazing things about this place. Coffee in the most beautiful place watching toucans fly tree to tree?? A dream. I will definitely be back - book immediately!

The resort itself is located about 30min away from the hustle and bustle of San Ignacio and its situated right along the Macal River which made for perfect water sounds in the mornings and at night. You’ll hear birds chirping, and it’s just so peaceful. The staff can organize rides for you to go anywhere you like, and the food at the restaurant is amazing!

The grounds are beautiful, service was really nice. However, the resort should come with warning, there is no air conditioning or dehumidifier in the room therefore you are sleeping on the wet mattress under wet cover wearing wet sleepwear. It would also be nice to have coffee maker in the room as some of us are early birds and don't want to wait until 6 am.

Everything was overall very nice and people were sweet, but the shower was rough! It was either burning hot or freezing cold we did all the things the said but could only get a warm comfortable temp for like 3 seconds. I called them to come 4 times and it just never got better. It was tough because we have a lot of curly hair to try and wash and we’re doing lots of activities.

The only reason for the four stars was we were disappointed in the breakfast and lunch. Dinners were better but I think the main issue was we were the only people there.

A jungle oasis

If I could give 6 stars I would. From the moment we arrived and even before our arrival the staff was proactive and attentive. It was my husbands birthday and they decorated the room and had a table in the restaurant decorated for us with a cake. My mother in law stayed with us and they converted the living room sofa to a bed. The food was great with cheese made on property abd vegetables from their own garden. You truly feel like you are staying in a jungle oasis. We will definitely be back.

The relaxing sounds of the jungle were interrupted by the whining cries of the children next door. Due to the open air concept we could hear every whimper and wail. Other than those jolts back to reality our visit was heavenly and relaxing. We loved seeing the fruit trees and garden and enjoyed a float down the river in the provided kayaks. How delightful to wake up to coffee outside our room everyday.

The property was well kept and serene. The rooms were extremely clean and decorated with fresh flowers upon arrival (very nice touch). The body scrub and soaps provided gave a spa-like feeling to the experience.

The splash pool with fountain feature was very nice to enjoy on the warm afternoons. Being on the deck overlooking the river and wildlife from water with a cocktail was a daily ritual while we were there.

Only downside is the lack of air-conditioning, which did not bother us the first 2 nights, but our final night there was no breeze to speak of, it was hot and stagnant in our room which made it difficult to get a good night's rest.

In addition, I think every room should be provided a small cooler for ice. The staff at the bar was kind enough to offer one up to us our first day, which we had refilled whenever we went there or when we went to the restaurant. However, if that would have not been offered up to us day 1 by the kind bartender, we would have had to run back and forth from our cabin several times a day.

Mystic River is truly a gem. They treat each guest as family, and because of the small size, you can really get to know the staff. The guides for the excursions were fabulous - knowledgeable, safe, and friendly. The only thing to be aware of is the lack of A/C in the cabanas. Even with fans, it can be quite hot at night. But, we found it entirely worth it! It was a wonderful jungle adventure that my kids will remember forever.

The propery is beautiful - so many plants and flowers and birds. I loved that the room was its own building with a deck looking over the river and hearing and seeing the jungle birds and creatures. The morning coffee and snack basket at the door was a delight. We thoroughly enjoyed our facials at the yoga deck, the bird watching walk and the food and drinks! Everyone is kind, caring, responsive and helpful. The resort is very ecofriendly - growing food and herbs onsite, encouraging re-usable water bottles, making their own cheese. It felt good to be part of that! Thanks again for a fantastic stay. This was my second time there - hoping to continue the tradition!

Best Vacation yet!

This was my first international trip with my two daughters (10 and 13 years old). At first, I was a little nervous, but once I arrived at Mystic River Resort, I realized this was probably the best decision I've ever made. From the start of our trip, the services and resort were amazing. Our flight arrived late (5:00PM) into BZE. It was a 2-hour drive to the resort, and upon arrival it was dark. I had no idea where to go. However, I was greeted (by name somehow) in the parking lot by 3 resort workers, who took our luggage and walked us to our room.

The continental breakfast was delicious, my kids loved the chocolate chip pancakes, and all the fresh fruit while watching the birds eat the fruit set out for them. Dinner was quiet, peaceful and delicious. The fire was nice. My kids loved watching all the wildlife sightings at the resort. Leslie was an amazing, knowledgeable guide throughout our entire trip. We did a night hike and cave tube tour with him. He was an expert, and we were in good hands. My kids loved going on the adventures he had in store for them. All the activities/services offered through the resort were awesome! The complimentary morning birding session was amazing! At nighttime, we heard howler monkeys-very cool experience!

All of the hotel staff was incredible. The pool was refreshing after a long day. The entire trip was incredible, and the resort was amazing. The country is beautiful. I didn't want to leave! We will be back very soon!

I will definitely stay here again! We stayed as a family of 4 with younger kids (5 and 7). All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Service was excellent. They were very helpful in booking adventures and making the experience kid friendly and memorable. I loved waking up to jungle noises, seeing beautiful birds and iguanas and being immersed in the jungle while also having the comforts of on site electricity and drinkable water. The food at the resort restaurant was also excellent.

This is an exceptional resort. We stayed in the Mahogany cabana and it exceeded our expectations. It backed the river and was so pretty. The restaurant overlooks the river and is beautiful. The goat cheese platter was one of my favorite items on the menu. They make their own cheese. Be sure to visit their farm. We toured the Mayan ruins and also did the river tubing tour. We had a great time!

The people here are so kind and friendly. We felt safe and well taken care of. The food was good, but needs a little improvement. The accommodations were great. We stayed 4 nights and on the last day, we had a few bug problems which were quickly resolved. After all it is the jungle. The ability to kayak on the river and the view of the river was great. Hiking around the place was fun as well. I would recommend this place for sure.

But icluded breakfast was very very simple. No hot food or you need pay extra. Only few cakes and hot beverage. Acommodation price is high so you expect better breakfast. Restaurant overpriced. The staff, the food, the service all excellent. Only comment is that having a massage during the rain on the yoga platform was not up to your standards. We had to ask several times for our massage to be in our rooms instead of freezing out in the open. Other than that our stay was very good and I would highly recommend Mystic River to anyone going to Belize.

Lovely, peaceful, commodious, great cocktails & dining, delightful staff, native wildlife, nice pool, sitting on balcony listening to the river & rain are just some of the pleasures to be had.
Unfortunately, we came with Tropical Storm Sara, so there were no river activities or tours available. The inversion factor with the weather caused the neighboring cabins woodsmoke from their fire to pour into our cabin and I suffered asthma attacks our entire stay. The cabins aren’t air conditioned so my husband was so uncomfortable because I had to have the cabin closed up. Factors of our timing & placement within the fully booked resort and not the resort’s fault. Just something to consider as you book. Don’t come during hurricane season or if you have asthma.
Our family of four are all gf for health reasons, not by choice. The dining staff went to great lengths to prepare safe dishes to eat for us which was greatly appreciated!

What a beautiful resort buried deep in the jungle. I appreciated how friendly all the staff was, and they genuinely seemed to want my son and I to have a great stay. We were offered a complimentary bird-watching tour, which was nice, and we elected a resort sponsored tour of the Barton caves, which was magnificent!

Daily breakfast is good, with fresh pancakes and fruit. Bartenders are all nice and make a good drink. Thanks so much!

Fantastic resort! We loved everything about it. What you may want to know: staff was just amazing! Getting there was tricky, but not too hard. All paved roads from the airport to the drive, but the driveway is long and unpaved. They take care of your bags and if needed you can drive up to your walkway to your bungalow. No TV, in room but I didn't need or want one. The restaurant and bar areas are open air, allowing a view of the jungle and the river. Food was great, and not expensive, 2 new specials every night. Bar drinks about 9 compared to 15 in San Pedro. They will set up any trips or events you want to do ahead of time, ring coffee and banana bread to your door at 7 am. Hike, walk, be lazy in your dip pool on your private deck, or go to the main pool. Lunch available at the pool. Everything surounded by beautiful jungle plants, trees, flowers. They out out fruit for the birds in the morning by the restaurant, so we saw Tuccans, iguanas, and one evening we saw an armadillo. All the staff is friendly and calls you by name. Amazing place. We will be back.

Overpriced for what it really was

The resort in itself is very well located overlooking the Macal River.
We paid extra to get a \"Cloud 9 Suite) with a little pool in our terrace but unfortunately that little pool was too cold to soak and enjoy. Other than that, the room was comfortable even though the faucet and shower were of poor quality.
Our biggest disappointment was the quality of the food which was also overpriced for the quality and size served.
Also, we thought that offering a \"continental\" breakfast, when you pay your room a total of $320/night, was a little stingy since they always charge extra should you want eggs. It's better to add $20 to the daily rate and offer a full breakfast.
Overall, we had a good time but it was just ok and certainly overpriced for what it was.

My husband and I had an amazing experience. It far exceeded our expectations. A beautiful little resort in the rainforest. All of the staff were so nice. All welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. We will definitely be staying here again. I cannot say enough nice things. They really took care of us and made our stay magical.

What an awesome experience at Mystic River! After researching several places to stay in the Belizean jungle, my girlfriend, friends, and I decided on this one. The staff went above and beyond for our stay, even throwing a thought out surprise dinner for our friend’s bday. Steve, Leo, Sylvia, and Darwin were top notch and provided both great service and a wonderful experience with conversation and suggestions. The ambiance was everything we were hoping for and love the secluded jungle environment.

Would highly recommend booking any tours through them as well, especially the ATM one which exceeded all expectations. Thank you Mystic River!! 10/10

My wife and I stayed a few here for our 10 year anniversary and absolutely loved it! The staff was great and very helpful, our room and the adjoining private plunge pool were clean and well built, the restaurant was amazing, the facilities were well cared for. Definitely will be coming back next time we visit Belize! The tours and massages were also very good! Would recommend!

Our stay at the Mystic River resort was fantastic. We stayed for 5 nights and I am glad that we were there for that amount of time. There are so many great activities to do in the area and we used the lodge as a base. We spend 1 day doing local activities and relaxing in the lodge. Highly recommend their tours as they are flexible and private. We just booked the night before. The restaurant is fantastic! I highly recommend the lodge as a place to decompress and enjoy nature.

This was an amazing property and we had a wonderful time. It is off the beaten path. There is no air conditioning so when it is sweltering it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. We had plenty of fans and slept with all the windows open.
