The inn is quaint and comfortable. It has retained all of the original ambiance of the last century. Two things to be aware of: the noise level in the evenings is significant from the bar below the rooms; also, the bathrooms need some refreshed grout and paint. That said, we enjoyed our stay. The staff was wonderful and our room was quite comfortable.

There were issues with my reservation and Expedia couldn have been any worse at handling them. They managed to wrestle defeat from the jaws of victory. I was flooded with irrelevant computer generated emails claiming to be unable to contact the innkeeper. I called the Inn myself and had my issue resolved in less than 2 minutes. Very disappointing. Sure I get loyalty points from booking with Expedia, but the customer service I received on this one was unacceptable.

I liked that we could see the canal from our bedroom window. The lack of any personal contact with the owners was disappointing. No small refrig. in the common area. No self-serve coffee either. The best part was going across the street with our coupon and hanging out with the locals in the breakfast bar.

Was expecting home cooked breakfast being it’s a bed and breakfast. Third floor suite bedroom was cool but other rooms no AC units so it was hot. No bottled water or cream for coffee. Ants around. No tissues not paper towels for use in kitchen. Yes had coffee and few Splenda. Not enough amenities for four ppl. Overall ok. But not as this place was in the past.

Visiting Chesapeake City is always a treat. This is the first time we stayed with Ed and Sarah at the Inn at the Canal. What a wonderful experience! They were the perfect hosts - friendly, kind and welcoming. They prepared delicious meals every morning and the accommodations were very nice. We were sad to leave and will definitely return.

I feel bad that I can't provide a better rating, but my experience was limited to a late check-in after a NYE party and then leaving immediately after breakfast on New Year's Day. Our Snug Harbor room was very small, even by B&B standards. Bed was lumpy but comfortable enough for sleeping. There was no bottled water in our room, but we did find a stack of shot glass-sized paper cups that held almost a mouthful of sink water. Breakfast was ok, served buffet-style except that bacon and scrapple were rationed by the hovering and a bit too-chatty owner/operator. Coffee was hot and fresh but weak. Orange juice wasn't offered or available until we overheard chatty owner/operator mentioning mimosas to another couple. The best part of our stay were the delicious chocolate chip cookies that greeted us on our bed. I'm sad to say that I won't be staying here in the future.

Quiet and Relaxing
When we arrived we were greeted by Bob. We were told that the B&B was bought by a new owner and we were the last customers before the new owners open. Our room was upgraded, and very clean. The bed was just perfect , very comfortable. In the dining area there was lemon pound cake and fresh baked cookies. In the morning breakfast was a made to order omelette and fresh baked blueberry loaf and French pressed decaf. The server was very lovely and informative. Would stay again . Cute place in a quaint little town.

First I'd like to say the Inn is clean...very clean. The maintenance and up keep is obviously important to them. The Breakfast was fantastic. My second stay at the Inn at the Canal B&B. Love the location. The greeting was very friendly and thoughtful. Breakfast (French toast) was amazing as owner is a schooled chef. I've stayed in the top floor a few times. Very spacious with it's open kitchenette. Supplied with the basics. Clean. My room had some heavy dust in corners of carpeted areas. Otherwise acceptable. It's an old house, so no new or modern look or feel. Price was a little on the high end, I felt for January. Will stay again I'm sure.

Needing to be in Chesapeake City for a family event we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. From the booking process, I am based in the UK, to accommodating the fact that my son, flying in from LA, would arrive at different times, Bob & Carol were able to accommodate our requirements. We chose the Upper Bay suite which worked for us as a father and son, but would equally work for a couple or a small family. Breakfasts were delicious and never the same. Bob, Carol and Samantha, Bobs assistant, made us feel welcome, and were never intrusive.

Stayed one night 12/9/2017. In town for candle light tour. Nicely done rooms and friendly host. Nice breakfast. Right near everything in town. Only thing I would check out is that some of the tubs have very high sides. Some people may have an issue getting in and out. May want to check that.

I would highly recommend reserving the Upper Bay suite if you can. It's more like a small apartment. Bob was very helpful and helped me to arrange a special weekend for my wife's 60th birthday. He is also an accomplished chef - breakfasts were incredible and spoiled his guests with very tasty choices. We had a very special weekend staying there. Plenty of places to visit within walking distance, as well as excellent places to dine. I would also recommend Prime 225, which is just down the street (a 5 minute walk). A little expensive, but the cuisine is amazing, as was the service.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn At the Canal only one night, but we both agreed it was a lovely experience. Bob and Carol couldn't have been more helpful, patient, kind, and communicative about late arrival time. For such a gorgeous and busy teeny, tiny town, it was packed with people, but we were able to park directly behind the Inn. We stayed in the Back Creek room and it was beautiful and pristine, and the view was incredible - like a picture window to the entire harbor. Breakfast was delicious, coffee ever-flowing, and the fire place on a rainy morning topped off the ambiance.Would highly recommend and wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Thanks to Bob, my mother had a perfect 87th birthday. As a native of Chesapeake , she has stories to tell and memories to stir. Bob was interested in listening to my mother and asking questions about the history of the Inn and town. Bob made her feel like a million bucks. My mother, sister and I enjoyed staying at the Inn. We loved the accommodations, location and breakfast. The third floor balcony was a hit, a beautiful city to view from a high spot.

Very enjoyable find. The Inn had a lot of interesting info, pictures and antiques. The breakfasts were delicious! Did not even know that the canal existed and learning about it was very interesting. Very quiet town with a few restaurants and some shopping. Various seasonal activities. There are numerous other towns and activities in the surrounding area. We were lucky enough to book a room on Sunday morning with the intention of watching the Eagles game on the outdoor deck at the Chesapeake Inn which sits behind the Inn at the Canal Bed and Breakfast. We couldn't have had a better day! If you like shopping, eating with a waterfront view, you must visit Chesapeake City. The accommodations at the Inn at the Canal were clean, cozy and had me wishing for another night stay. We were greeted with an excellent breakfast of fresh home-made muffins, blueberry French toast, fresh fruit. Bob and Carol thank you!! We can't wait to come back again.

My wife and I spent 2 at Inn at the Canal. We really enjoyed Chesapeake City and this B&B placed us right in the center of all that the village has to offer. This Inn is very quaint and the Inn keeper were very hospitable and friendly, willingly offering information and suggestions about the local area. Our room was nicely appointed and reflected the charm of the late 19th from the era when the house was built. Having Bob, the owner, being a trained chef meant that breakfast was a treat to be saviored each morning. I would stay here again.

Really enjoyed a long labor day weekend there. While a little pricey, it certainly is competitive with other B&Bs in Chesapeake City. The food was very good, and they accomodate extra guests we had very graciously. We also had a wonderful rainy day playing board games in the livingroom. It was a real piece of home.

My Wife and I have stayed at the Inn At The Canal Bed and Breakfast several times, and we always get the same room. This most recent stay was everything that we come to expect, everything that is but the unexpected mattress change.
On previous stays at the Inn we marveled at the comfort of whatever brand of memory foam mattress they had waiting for us, but this time it felt like some old spring type.
As always, the place was full of old world charm, and the breakfasts were outstanding. We will stay with them again, but may roll the dice and put our money on a different room with hopefully a better mattress.

My girlfriend and I were curious to explore historic Chesapeake City and the local surrounding region for a few days and enjoy the hospitality Bob provided.
Bob keyed in my love of history and recommended we tour a few places in the area. Bob, as a transplant to the area. is incredibly knowledgeable -I'd say more so than a local- about the town, it's history and places to visit, besides things to do.
Although there were two TVs in the room (and some VHS taped movies), our upper Bay Suite was fantastic and comfortable after a long day of exploring the region.
I'd highly recommend Inn at the Canal to anyone wanting a nice escape from reality in this historic, picturesque and tranquil part of Maryland.

The Inn is beautiful, furnished in lovely antiques, and our room was perfect! We had a view of the canal from our window. Very clean and comfortable. Chef Bob, the owner, created fabulous, filling breakfasts each morning. He is also very knowledgeable about the history of the canal and the town; a pleasure to talk with him! We enjoyed sitting on the side porch with a view of the canal, as well as walking by watching the barges, and freighter go by. Thank you Chef Bob, Carol, and Samantha for a lovely vacation.

We loved the house and our room. Everyone was very pleasant. The only nuisance we want to point out is that the fan portion of the AC unit was very quiet but when the condenser would cycle on about every 10 minutes it was very noisy and made it difficult to hear the TV and also sleep.
