The rooms were dirty, with grime on the baseboards, walls, and in the shower. There was a ring in the toilet like it hadn’t been cleaned in a bit. There was dirt and leaves all over the deck with many spider webs. Toilet paper was single ply. The furniture was old and beat up. We skipped the breakfast as we were not comfortable with the cleanliness of their kitchen based on the room.

Very outdated and needs cleaning
We booked this room for a romantic getaway for my husband’s birthday. However, the property is not quite as described. It is really old and outdated. I think the last time they renovated the hotel was 50 years ago. Also, there was no one at the check-in and no breakfast available the day after. We did not see any inkeeper throughout the entire stay. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed.

Great Stay for Concert at Elkton Music Hall
When we arrived I could not find anyone in the lobby but then saw an envelope with my name on it. The lobby area and the back porch area where breakfast is served is very historic looking, but well maintained and cozily decorated. Ditto for our room once we let ourselves in. I am very glad that Expedia includes Bed and Breakfasts in its listings. The experience at one of these is definitely more interesting than a hotel. This one is located on a beautiful piece of property. We didn't have time to walk around too much but we enjoyed hearing all the birds. The house is definitely historical. Sometimes it showed its age, but was generally comfortable. The breakfast was pretty good and we would stay there again.

The carpeting in our room was soaking wet. We didn’t realize till we took off our shoes. We called the owner who sent his daughter. She said” oh the people who were here last night overfilled the jacuzzi tub in our room ( did not order a jacuzzi room) and we did for the best we could.” She put down a towel. I requested to speak with the owner ( spoke with owners wife) but never had the common courtesy to call me. And grossly, there are dead bugs everywhere. This is such a charming place to stay. There are so many nooks and crannies in which you can read, observe, relax. The breakfast of scrambled eggs, fruit, granola , and waffles was good. There is ample outdoor seating for good weather. All in all, it was a relaxing and enjoyable stay. I would definitely return.

For the price, this an amazing value. The Elk Forge Inn has a great charm to it, and we had the place practically to ourselves this time of year. I really appreciated the heat vent just outside the shower to stay warm. It also comes equipped with fireplaces in all rooms, all were functional. There were a few issue, I was a bit concerned about the temperature of our Baltimore room, but the electric fireplace helped keep it adequate enough. Also, there are some noticeable cosmetic issues in the front hallway, but didn't detract whatsoever from the stay. The owner, Harry came and met us personally in the morning, and he's a delight to talk to. If you are looking for a alternative to the corporate hotel chains in the Elkton/University of Delaware area, I highly suggest this Inn.

The property needs a real overhaul! It’s not dirty, but it’s dingy, and toilet barely flushed. They also have a freight train right near the property and it honked its horn at night. 😳

We booked a room through Expedia as part of a trip to Longwood Gardens for their Winter Lights display. Since it was freezing outside, we planned to stop by the room first to change.
About 30 minutes before our arrival, we got a voicemail saying a water pipe had burst, and they needed to cancel. Okay, no problem—we pivoted and went straight to Longwood Gardens. But before going in, we spent an hour in the parking lot searching for another B&B without any luck.
We decided to enjoy the gardens anyway, and they didn’t disappoint! If you’ve never been, you must visit in both spring and winter—it’s incredible.
Then, another voicemail came through saying the pipe issue was fixed, and the room was ready. I called back to confirm, but no one answered. It was now 10 p.m., so we headed to Elk Forge, unsure of what to expect.
The room was… fine. Let’s just say it could use a little TLC—paint peeling from the ceiling, for starters. When I turned on the faucet to wash up, there was no water. So much for that fixed pipe! Guess they just really wanted my money.
The next morning, we went down for breakfast, hoping for a redeeming moment. Instead, we were met with something that felt like a knockoff Fairfield Inn breakfast: scrambled eggs, a waffle maker, juice, and some sad, expired-looking fruit.
Looking back, I should’ve stayed at a Marriott. It would’ve been cheaper, had a bigger bed, better food, and—most importantly—running water. Lesson learned!

This place is a GEM!!! It’s a quaint B&B in Elkton, MD. My husband and I were here for our mini-moon for a few days. It’s close enough to get gas or food but far enough to experience life in the countryside. The views are beautiful from the Brandywine suite. We enjoyed the breakfast, it is a step above continental at other hotels. We drove about 20 minutes to have dinner at Steak & Main (a must try)! The owner is playful and very accommodating especially since we were on our honeymoon. I wish we could’ve stayed longer but we will be returning in the future.

We arrived at 9:30 PM and I was surprised there wasn't better lighting at the entrance door. In addition, the bed pillows were to "lofted" for my taste. I think there should always be at least 2 different types of pillows for the tenant to choose from.Everything else was excellent and I wish I had been able to spend more time relaxing in such a beautiful old home with very nice furnishings.

There was no staff at the hotel. I had to ask a fellow guest how to get into my room. At breakfast, there were no forks, napkins, or butter. The only available non-streaming tv channel was Fox News. No recycling bins. I carried out my own recyclables.

Elk Forge B&B was chosen due to us having a wedding in the area. We normally prefer B&B’s and with looking at the ratings and seeing pictures, we were a bit surprised once inside. The outdoor area seemed okay but the Chesapeake room that we were assigned was not pleasing. I said it’s probably b/c we booked on hotels.com and not directly because the good reviews did not match the cleanliness or condition of the room. On our way up to the 3rd floor, there were dead bugs on the floors and the windowsills. Granted, we all might have stink bugs but these dead bugs and a lot of them were unsightly. Our room, including the condition of the door and the lock were in need of some updating. There were also stink bugs and lady bugs and a lot of them in our room. The bed and sheets were comfortable, thank goodness and breakfast was lovely. We do understand historic, etc. but this seemed beyond the need of updating.

Look, if you like modern settings with all the amenities and pampering, this may not be the place for you. It is a house that was built with field stone; hardwood inlaid floors, and awesome period molding & furniture. No modern place will ever feel like this. It is quaint and personal.

Very friendly staff and nice room. We did not spend a lot of time in the B&B but the bed was comfortable and bathroom as clean with toiletries provided. Morning breakfast was good as well.

Absolutely loved our stay! It has such charming atmosphere and characteristics to the house. The jetted tub was amazing and water was surprisingly hot soon as I turned it on. Breakfast was hands down amazing with a beautiful view of the landscape and sunrise. Definitely a nice break from normal hotels and it had such a home like vibe. We also think this place is a potential wedding venue for us! Of course it had its quirks but honestly for how old it wasn’t bad! Also loved that it’s self checkin and how convenient that it was placed out for whenever you check in!
