Private access to rooms was a bonus. Comfortable rooms. Decor made good use of building features but still had a modern feel. Shower rooms clean and quite modern. Conveniently situated. There was no-one to meet us when we arrived despite arrival letter saying that staff would be available at that time. It was difficult to get in touch with the manager. The rooms felt isolated from the rest of the pub which would suit people who were happy to be completely independent but not those hoping for interaction with pub staff or other guests. It was disappointing that breakfast was only offered at weekends.

Great stay at this comfortable pub.

Very comfortable stay. Room for 4 was very clean and comfortable. Nice friendly atmosphere in the pub. Staff very friendly. Reasonably priced. Menu is limited to burgers. However, the burgers are excellent!! Breakfast was lovely and half pricer if staying over.

We had a lovely albeit sadly brief stay at this charming hotel in a building that looks like its steeped in history, which is handily located at the top of the High St a stone's throw from the Thames, boasting rooms with a lovely decor and loads of space. The staff were extremely kind and helpful, going above and beyond to help us with whatever they could. Hopefully we'll be in the area again soon so we can spend more time enjoying the hospitality

Great host! Jim went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and nothing was too much trouble, legend!
Super comfortable bed and pillows, slept really well.
Delicious burgers for dinner and a yummy breakfast.
Free wifi. Great location near the river and very close to all the town shops and market.
Would definitely stay again!

Overall, we were pleased with the accomodation. The plugs of both the shower and sink needed clearing as they were slightly blocked but this is a minor complaint. We happened to be there at the hotest weekend of the year and were very grateful of the fan in the room!

Comfy bed, fluffy towels, excellent breakfast.

The Town Arms provided us with a good stopover for a busy weekend with friends. Service was good, staff very pleasant and friendly, rooms aren't large but it is an old building with character. The cooked breakfast was very good indeed. Don't look for luxury here, but if you want a nice pub with rooms it ticks the boxes. We enjoyed ourselves.

Not recommended if you want to sleep.

The room was clean and staff friendly and helpful. However room was basic, very noisy. The walls are very thin and you can hear people in all the rooms around you, the beer garden is open until well after midnight so loud and also thumping music from bar below! This went on until 1.30am. Also my room was over the kitchen and the extractor was channelling out fried food smells with pervaded the room.

Comfortable hotel on edge of town

Comfortable hotel on the edge of town just a stone's throw from the river (Thames). No parking but the Riverside Car Park offers up to 23 hours (overnight) just the other side of the bridge. Most of the town can be accessed on foot in around 10-15 minutes.

Closed at 10, i was left without accommodation

I was traveling from Manchester, i arrived just after 10 to find the pub closed. no one answered the calls and they refused to provide a refund. I was left without accommodation. The pub was advertised as open until 11pm. Terrible customer service, i was left £130 out of pocket and had to book alternative accommodation for the night. So much for supporting local, i wouldn't have had this problem with a big chain.

Post Brexit/COVID UK Hotel Guest Hospitality spectrum new extreme - black hole?
….No Sunday afternoon/ evening restaurant dining service. No evening bar service. Then, to make matters worse, no Monday morning breakfast service, despite web site declaring “free breakfasts” with accommodation. Great riverside hotel accommodation location to go hungry at.

I hired a room here for my mum and sister as they had to stay over in Wallingford for 1 night.

I had stayed with Towns Arms before and had a good stay.

Unfortunately this was not the case this time due to the room and for 2 main reasons:

1. The bathroom - the bathroom door didn't stay shut. The only option while on the toilet was to constantly keep the door pushed in with your arm or risk it opening constantly. This made sharing a room for the both of them extremely uncomfortable.

2. The bed - the wood grating at the base of the bed, beneath the mattress, was cracked and there had been large objects placed underneath it to stop it from falling down all the way - as opposed to the cracks being repaired. This meant that for one of them the mattress dropped almost to the floor as soon as she sat down, and kept dropping as she moved around through the night. The other had the same experience throughout the night where the more she moved the more the mattress would drop onto the floor as those objects underneath would move. Both had to try to sleep at almost a diagonal angle and could barely sleep at all.

Contacted the property with these issues after the stay and never heard back.

Time out to see our friends.

Excellent location in Wallingford. Close to shops and the town bridge over the Thames. Came to visit friends on the Sunday, visiting St Mary's Church Cholsey, and then lunch at The Old Post Office in Wallingford.

Room was clean and comfortable. Enjoyed the continental breakfast.

The Town Arms has been a licensed pup since 1794. Washington was president. It’s very close to the Thames River. The proprietress is Jessie and she is a delight.
Our room (#6) was very nice. Not a fancy place but an excellent B&B experience. Comfortable bed, good bathroom. Breakfast is continental. The pub has decent food and the beer is cold.

Welcomed by father of owner and was even offered an additional room as ours only had a double bed and we are mother and daughter. Friendly when we had a drink in the bar, great customer service. Room clean, warm and comfortable with TV, water/tea/coffee/biscuits and honesty tray outside for nuts/drinks etc.
night two I believe was the owner behind the bar, who was complaining about glassess left from the night before. We joked we had had a private party when pub had closed. after explaining we were guests, he said ' I didn't know anyone stayed last night'. Hmmm!! We sat with our drinks and he loudly told some customers how he was leaving and taking this and that with him, how he had done wonders for the pub etc and how some other establishments did not measure up. One customer left (who had also been in the bar the previous night) and the 'owner' talked negatively about him to the other customer; this is not professional. We drank up and went to our rooms.
This is a lovely pub with nice rooms in a great location. If Dad was there I would highly recommend. Would I stay again? Depends who takes over the pub

Staff was friendly but the rooms were old, small and very basic. No breakfast option was offered despite it being listed as \"available\" on Hotels.com listing. Staff were not available at checkout time. It is listed as a no frills Inn but I don't think I would stay there again.

Mistake

Rude unwelcoming person in kitchen told us that we couldn't check in before 5. So many better ways to communicate but chose to be patronising and arrogant. Decided to eat and drink elsewhere.

The owner on the other hand was charming and helpful. So was the lady behind the bar when we came back to go up to our room that evening.

Room tiny and on a slope. bed on a slope making sleep uncomfortable. Bed v uncomfortable.

No breakfast. Not good value.

The room was small and could have done with a good clean but the bed was comfortable and the location was excellent. They missed a few things (for example there were tea and coffee sachets but no kettle and the TV didn't work). It was perfectly adequate for a business trip and not worth complaint on the day but needs a much better cleaner and I probably would not stay there again.
