Lots of difficulty here. The room was nice, though no exterior windows. You have to check in before midnight, and the host locks you in from 9:00 PM to 6:30 AM each night (yes, really) due to what she described as dangerous streets. On our 10:30 check in, after almost 12 hours of travel, she fought vociferously with us because we asked to remain on the sidewalk for five minutes to smoke a cigarrete. Her helpers, two young Quechua girls, were fantastic and friendly, though we felt sorry that they had to work for the older lady. We left unceremoniuly the next day, staying only one night of the six we paid in advance for, with the host claiming ignorance on refund policy. It was all a costly mistake.

I personally don't like the idea that you have to leave your key with the front desk when you leave the building. Nor do I like that I had to get someone to buzz me out when I left. The room we had didn't have any window to outside. The door to our room was window for the top half. This required a curtain to be closed between the door and the room. Otherwise anyone going down the hall had a clear view of what was in the room. The location was good for exploring Old Town Quito. It is a very old building with decor that is really complimentary to the style. We arranged to be picked up at the airport and were pleased with that service. The taxi they arranged to take us back to the airport arrived on time.

The hotel is in a brilliant central location in the old town just down the hill from the basilica. All the main city sites are easily walkable. The hotel is full of character & very quaint. The service is excellent & the staff go out of their way to help you. Free coffee & tea & water in reception too.

Staff Oswaldo (driver), Estafonia & Susan were all great and helpful. Very clean room. Not much variety on breakfast options & as per owner \"No Mas!\" screaming at the staff not to give anything to paying guest - only maximum of 2 cups of coffee per person & not being offered exactly on the 9 o'clock dot (end of breakfast time). Embarrassing situation for pleasant/helpful staff working at the hotel of informing that she can't give anymore coffee. Our driver Oswaldo was very accommodating and pleasant.
Overall - working staff are great and room is comfortable & clean but not a good experience on how the owner deals with her staff in front of the paying guests.

This is a beautiful hotel that is spotless. The environment is amazing, but the people who attend to you are even more so. From the moment I was picked up from the airport until I was driven back, I experienced the greatest of hospitality and care. Everyone is so informed about the city and country which assisted greatly in planning excursions. I loved this experience and all the people that cared for me and made me feel at home.

A hidden gem in the very heart of the historic district. An old Spanish colonial house with an open courtyard. Walk 5min to the Basilica and the Plaza Grande. Lots of good restaurants around too.
Full of green plants lovingly cared for (even polishing the leaves) by the staff.
Mariam and her staff were super friendly and looked after me really well. It was truly a pleasure to stay there and I look forward to another visit.

Best of both worlds

The location is excellent, and the hotel itself is fantastic—more of an Airbnb-style setup than a traditional stay. It’s within easy walking distance of all the top spots in Old Town, including the Basílica del Voto Nacional, Independence Square, and the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco. I’d definitely stay here again if I ever return.

Beautiful hotel set in an old style colonial property. Close to historic centre. We had a lovely stay and were looked after well by the staff however the experience of others in our group was not positive (cockroach in room and issue required a battle to resolve). Breakfast options were limited. Bathrooms in some rooms had a foul smell as poor ventilation.

My 5 stars are sincere. If I'm lucky enough to be able to return to Quito I would stay here again without hesitation. The location is excellent, directly between Plaza Grande and La Basilica, the colonial building is very nicely restored, the room was comfortable, and the staff was extremely kind and attentive. As an independent hotel, it was abundantly clear that they were doing all they could to give guests the best possible experience. Hands-down the best stay we had on our 2 week trip in Colombia and Ecuador.

This is an incredibly charming hotel. Each room is creatively and uniquely decorated. The staff treated us like family, calling us by our first names each time they saw us. Breakfast is wonderful, as is the customer service. There was not a single thing that wasn't first rate. I highly recommend the Hotel La Basílica, and if we ever return to Quito, this will be where we stay. Special shout-out to Media, Josalie and Byron.

Very beautiful hotel in downtown old Quito. We walked around to the churches and palace. We found great restaurants for lunch and dinner. Hotel La Basílica provides an excellent breakfast. The owner greats all guests and helps make any arrangements for transportation and tours. Much better service than we have received at chain hotels. The owner and staff genuinely care about their guests having a great experience.

A beautiful historic hotel, with courtyard where they served a lovely full breakfast, including eggs to order. The location was perfect very close to the historic center. I would advise not staying many blocks more away from the historic center as the neighbourhood changes, but we felt very safe in the day time (with reasonable precautions not flashing wealth). The hotel arranged a reliable car service although the driver changed the price at drop off wanting an extra 10$ - they were there when we arrived & brought us without incident. The workers tried to be friendly & helpful. We were woken up by gunshots in the night in the distance many times, but that would be for any hotels in the area.

Gem in Quito

I was staying in Quito for a couple of night en route to Galapagos and found this little gem of a hotel.

The hotel itself is an old colonial building which I understand dates from the early 1800s. It is clean, well maintained and the character of the property is amazing.

The location is also very good for the historic centre of Quito and the Basilica which is a must to visit.

The hotel staff could not do more for you during the stay, everyone was very helpful, friendly and caring. You feel very much a part of the family. Breakfast was top notch.

If I come back to Quito again I would definitely stay again and will be recommending Hotel La Basílica to family and friends.

This is a very beautiful boutique local hotel. The rooms and hotel are accurately reflected in the photographs. The hotel reception and staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The hotel host personally walked us to a great restaurant, Runa, around the corner since we arrived late and were too tired to navigate ourselves to dinner. Little touches like fresh roses in the room, rose petals on the bed were lovely. The room's furnishings and artwork are charming and embody a historic clonial charm reflective of the nearby basilica, cathedrals, and main square. Location is excellent for walking to the main plaza, the cathedral, presidential palance, nice restaurants, pharmacies, convenience stores, bank/ATM, etc. while feeling like you could observe local daily life of the people. One very nice amenity is that Byron of the hotel reached out in advance to help schedule our airport transfer to and from the hotel and helped accommodate last minute changes to our schedule. Much more convenient and comfortable that using a rideshare app. The driver was prompt, friendly, and made sure we had everything and were on time for our flight. Exceptional service. The only drawback (not the fault of our hotel) was the regional rolling power outages. I recommend bringing a flashlight if you travel during times of outages. We had power for 3-4 hours in the morning and 3-4 hours in the late evening. We were gone on excursions for most of the day time. But there was hot water for showers.

If I could leave negative stars I would. This hotel is horrible . I saw 2 roaches and something kept biting me in the bed. There were no windows in my room and due to the blackouts no fan and no air conditioning. The room was so hot I could barely breathe. When I told staff about the problems they just denied it all instead of trying to help. I showed them pictures of the roach and they said “ it’s not that room “ it definitely was.

I left after one night and they refused to refund the nights I didn’t stay. They will not answer any of messages. I have never had such a horrible experience at a hotel. Please stay away !!!

Little charm in Quito!

Mirian runs a very tight ship and insists on showing guests around the old house. Beautifully kept, the hotel is an old house with two inner courtyards. They are covered by glass roofs which protect one from the weather but after a sunny day, leave the rooms rather stuffy at night as there is no cross ventilation. But there is a fan in the room.

Laundry is available and hotel is adamant you don’t use the sinks for washing your own smalls. Breakfast provided was modest but v nice.

Very clean.

There were no issues with our room - clean, everything worked, quiet, comfortable. The hotel is situated in a great location walking distance to many tourist attractions. It is a very unique and beautiful building where no two rooms look the same - you can tell a lot of effort, thought, and care went into its design and upkeep. Mirian is an excellent host, manager, and owner. She truly cares about the guests and goes above and beyond to make sure you have an excellent stay.

Pro Tip: It is easier to pack neatly folded clothing. I have a 34 liter day pack. An 8 liter Sling Bag is handy for an emergency boxer and pair of socks.

It definitely feels like home. Miryam and Karla are sisters to me. They will treat you MUCH better than family.

I’m returning to punish them after the Galapagos Islands and again after Christmas in Antarctica. (And every year?)

This is a great place to stay in centro historico. The property itself is beautiful and the staff are kind and helpful. The rooms are well maintained. The breakfast selection is limited but delicious. There are a number of nice restaurants and bakeries located within a 5 min walking distance. So, especially at night, when the centro historico area can be a bit deserted, you don’t have to walk far to get a meal.

This is the place to stay when in Quito. We were welcomed so warmly by the front desk manager who gave us a review of the interesting historic roots of the hotel, as well as taking us to the rooftop to give us an overview of the city and where to go. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast was amazing. Shout out to Byron and Karla, and the lovely airport pick up gentleman. All in all very glad I stayed here

Well worth the experience.

This is a very different style hotel if you are used to staying in the big chains.

We had a family room booked for my family of 3. My son slept in the loft and loved it. The hotel appears to have been completely restored. Lots of old wooden features and art work. There is a wine cellar where you can purchase a bottle of wine and there is a spiral stair case that takes you to the roof and gives you a GREAT view of the historical area of Quito.

We encountered rain every night so we did not get the chance to go to the roof and enjoy a drink. Hotel does provide loaner umbrellas cause when it rains in Quito, it RAINS.

This is an old hotel, so the floors do squeak in spots but you get used to it.

Staff was amazing, they helped us book a tour and transportation. They also made us breakfast every morning with fresh fruit and eggs.

Location is great. You are like 5 blocks to the basilica church in one direction, 4 blocks to a \"mall\" that has great food options. And 2 blocks to Teatro Sucre which is where a bunch of tour groups pick up.

The hotel location is excellent in the historical part of Quito. It is a beautiful place and the rooms are lovely. If I had one negative comment it would be that as welcoming and friendly the staff are, they are also a bit overkill. An unusual comment for sure but if you do stay at the hotel which I do recommend, you will understand.

The property is a converted Spanish colonial house and is centrally located on the oldest part of Quito on a main thoroughfare.

This hotel closes at 9 pm.

The was clean and in a good area. The owner of the hotel has a very bad attitude. The hotel locks the doors at 9pm because the owner wants to sleep. She said that she will not open the doors after 9 pm. So you mist rush to dinner and hurry back to the hotel. She put us out of the and would not allow us to stay in the lobby because we had to leave for the airport at 12 am to catch a 3 am flight.. All customers should know that this hotel closes at 9 pm. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Perfect place to stay in Quito!

Enjoyed a lot my stay at Hotel Basilica. All the staff were very welcoming and you are feeling you have arrived to your second home in Quito.

Very beautiful inner court and a rooftop to have a perfect 360 degree view on Quito.

There is travel agency and a little shop inside the hotel - you can find everything you need to enjoy Quito.

My room was very beautiful and comfortable.

We were greeted by friendly smiling gals at the door upon our arrival. They helped settle us in and at the end of the evening again greeted and told when breakfast would be. We were leaving early and they offered to make coffee and toast before their normal breakfast hour.

I had only one night in Quito and staying here was one of the best decisions we could have made. We flew in late and could have opted for one of the larger well known accommodations near the airport but we really wanted something that had history and location, this hotel nailed it. We were greeted with a shuttle that Basilica had arranged with me prior to our flight. When we arrived at the hotel Ricardo was very polite easy to work with and efficient. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The next morning breakfast was served fresh and timely.

This is a boutique hotel in a historical building that belong to one of the leaders of the independence movement. Each room has a beautiful painting of one of the main churches in the historical center. It is located in the hart of the historical center, and you can walk to all main sites. The hotel is impeccably clean, great breakfast and super friendly and helpful staff. Staying here makes you feel like you have traveled in time, but still have all modern amenities.

Delightful hotel. The building is 250 years old and is on the UNESCO historical register. The hotel has been modernized, of course. The owner and the staff were helpful and attentive at all times. We arrived late at night ( am) and left six days later at 5 am, yet they were available for us. Breakfasts were very good (typically coffee/tea, juice, fruit, eggs, pan). The ambiance at the hotel was superb with beautiful rooms and a courtyard. The hotel roof had a great view of Quito.

If, and when, we come back to Quito. We will definitely stay there again. Terrific hotel!

Lots of rules…

I usually give small businesses the benefit of the doubt and avoid saying much negative. I’ll try to keep true to that but I will say I’ve never been to a place with such aggressive rules (no food or drink in your room for instance) and at least one staffer who is unkind in her enforcement of them.
