Miragaia House, close to Porto's colourful waterfront 'Cais da Ribeira' (now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site), is a charming house with just 5 guest bedrooms, each done up elegantly. Unlike many other such 'old-world' properties, it has a lift, which is a bonus.
The reception, however, closes at 7pm. Those arriving after 7pm are given a code for the door in advance, AS WELL AS a local phone number to call in case of need. So, although we arrived after 10pm, when we discovered the air conditioner in our room was not working, the person we called informed the owner immediately, who turned up in person and fixed it for us, despite the lateness of the hour.
LOCATION
The hotel is within walking distance of most of Porto's strengths, including: the River Douro, Cais da Ribeira (waterfront), Igreja de São Francisco (with its 18th-century Tree of Jesse), Dom Luís I Bridge, Casa do Infante (Henry the Navigator Museum), Bolsa Palace, Clérigos Church & Tower, Livraria Lello (of Harry Potter fame), São Bento train station (with its approximately 20,000 azulejos that tell the story of Portugal), Praça do Liberdade, Mercado do Bolhão, and the Majestic Café, The short walk from Miragaia House to the Cais da Ribeira is along a section of the route of the old-fashioned tram.

The room was lovely, and the bed comfortable, however the curtains were not blackout, and light shone in. In addition, a low base beat from a nearby bar permeated the room at night (room 4). The place was exquisitely clean and well decorated. Breakfast was delicious. The hostess was very helpful in calling a cab and trying another number for me on the house phone. Our plans changed and we did not have time to explore the area, instead this was a quick overnight. The check in by code worked well.

This is a splendid hotel near the Douro river and many of Porto's attractions. The room was spacious and all amenities provided. Breakfast was excellent. As the owners will advise, there is very little parking nearby, so the best option was at the SABA underground carpark at the Jardim do Infante. We walked the 650 meters rolling our suitcase with no problem. Traffic is abysmal during peak tourism, but it's worth it to get close to downtown.

Clean, bed was firm, breakfast was good, staff was very professional - recommended local Xmas tree lighting which was attended by thousands of locals and had fun fireworks. Easy access, though not on metro line. Bright, cheerful room. Big screen tv placement was weird - in middle of room on 2 poles. Room was big and blackout curtains were great. There is a grocery nearby, so we made use of the mini-fridge for milk, juice etc. Would definitely stay there again.

We loved Miragaia house, the gps dropped us at a different spot but we found it, it is the street under the main street all the way at the end, everything was so clean and the rooms were so pretty and confortable, the best was the breakfast, we ate like there was no end, fruit, amazing different breads, cereal, amazing cold cuts, cheeses all kinds of tea, coffee of course and a coconut cake to die for :) We parked very near like a block away there is a paid public parking lot, Miragaia House is walking distance to all the pretty place, we had a great stay, I was the one choosing the hotels for our stay so I was very pleased how everything came out well.

Don't be put off by the outside
Don't be put off by the outside, this place is beautifully appointed throughout. There is a fun Brazilian style decor in happy colours (Brazil was a Portuguese colony), but the fundamentals are great too. A lovely big bed, a terrific shower, and a tiny kitchen. The staff are exceptional, Pedro was so helpful. The position is a short to the Ribeira restaurants and cruises, the hop on/ off bus stop, and next to two museums. It's easy to walk across the low level of the bridge to the pleasant Gaia waterfront. Highly recommended.

Loved Porto, and this great little guest house
It's a new guest house, staff was friendly and helpful, room was large and well equipped, bed was firm with little cushioning on top, and breakfast was a simple spread (bread, ham cheese, cold cereal, juice coffee). We walked from Sao Bento metro station to the hotel, about 20 minutes - it was easy to find, but we took their shuttle to the airport when we left, we preferred the shuttle. Sights were manageable walk ... a few good restaurants very close. We liked it!

Great little boutique hotel
This is a very nice, recently renovated, small boutique hotel. The rooms are very large and well equipment with small fridge, microwave and hot plate. Located just outside the main tourist area of Porto everything is within walking distance which is important as driving in the city centre is not something you want to do. The main lobby area of the hotel is large and comfortable and the staff very pleasant. This place is great value for the money and is definitely worth staying at.

We loved this hotel! Great location, great staff, great city! My husband and I truly enjoyed this hotel. It is so clean and comfortable. I was told that the owner is Brazilian. She has remodeled the hotel with a Brazilian theme giving the guests a welcoming feeling. We were able to walk everywhere! Do not hesitate to book this hotel. You will not feel sorry.

This place is hastill rooms that are bigger than most standard hotel rooms and three decor is quirky with bright cheerful colours. The were clean and the beds comfortable. The location is very close to the river and a 10 min walk along the river to throw main restaurant area of the old town. A short walk up the hill from here is the centre of the old town and San Bento station. The staff were fantastic in all respects. The breakfast provided was adequate. All in all for us a great place to stay in Porto.

At the beginning I was taken by the location of the hotel, in a common residential area ie not upscale.
But once inside and once you see the rooms you forget about any concern.
Our tour guide was late for pick up and they helped us contact them and they followed up on their own without us asking.
Its simply unique ,clean, central and the staff is amazing. They surprised us with a bottle of champagne for our anniversary.

Flat walk into town
Great little small boutique-type hotel. Don't be put off by the first impressions of the area it is full of charm and interest. As part of the old Jewish quarter there are plenty of inexpensive very local bars, restaurants and cafes and those intrepid travellers willing to tackle the steep lanes around this area will not be disappointed.

It was not pleasant to be.
We feel a bit deceived. At the entrance to the hotel there was a stage of performances for the holiday. During the two nights we stayed at the hotel we could not sleep because of the terrible noise from the music for almost all night. A very unpleasant experience known to the hotel months in advance and did not bother to inform us and leave the decision in our hands. Even if the hotel facilities were good, overall we could not enjoy them and staying at the hotel was a nightmare.

We arrived in at the hotel at 9pm and were met by a gentleman named Guillermo at the front desk. He was very pleasant and helpful and really made us feel welcome. We only had the evening and the next day to see the city so the location of this hotel was not too bad.

I stayed here while attending a conference at the Alfândega Congress Centre. The location was perfect - just across the road from the Congress Centre. The room was also lovely - bright, large and characterful. Also close to the river. I'll be staying here again.

Cozy hotel by the river
Miragaia House became our Porto home and its staff our family. Owner Vincent Faria produces the delightful wine Gloria with a bottle stocked in your room. Coffee,pastries and tapas are available in the 2 cafes outside the hotel. Stupidly, we left our valuables in the safe which could have been a nightmare but Guilherme called us then express mailed them to our next destination. We loved Porto and our Miragaia family and will return.

Besides being a great hotel the staff made themselves available for anything we needed and beyond. Our car was towed by the police and a staff member drove me to the police station to help me retrieve our car. He acted as our interpreter because we didn't speak the language. What wonderful people!

We faced to unpleasant problems:
1.The hot water was very short and only one person can get shower ,namely we took shower with a break of one hour between us
2. We stayed for 2 nights and The towels didn't replace during our stay

We faced to unpleasant problems:
1.The hot water was very short and only one person can get shower ,namely we took shower with a break of one hour between us
2. We stayed for 2 nights and The towels didn't replace during our stay

A fabulous boutique hotel in Porto.
The Miragaia house is a boutique hotel with only 5 rooms. Reception isn't permanently manned, but that really wasn't a problem during my stay. I received a very warm welcome and explanation. The hotel was very modern and clean and whilst not directly in the centre of Porto provides a short walk to most areas.

This is a very nice hotel, with apartment style rooms. The staff was very friendly when we checked, even moving his car so we could park ours (we do not recommend driving in Porto). They also called us cab the day we left. The room was large and bright, with a little kitchenette and king bed. It even had air conditioning, which we used in October. The bathroom was big, with a rain head shower. The hotel was close to everything and a down hill walk at the end of the night, this may sound odd, but after many many hills throughout the day, you will appreciate it. The TV had a couple of English channels, but we only had it on briefly before bed. I would recommend this hotel in this amazing city.

Skip Lisbon, Spend More Time In Porto!
The hotel was really lovely. The staff were soft spoken, polite, friendly, and very helpful.
The hotel is set back from the road, and relatively quiet for a local neighborhood. There are about three local spots in the immediate vicinity that locals and travelers alike frequent for coffee and pastry, or a drink and light fare. Chez Danys down the road has excellent food as well. It is literally a short walk across the road, to get down to the river for a romantic stroll.
We had an amazing time in Porto! If we had it to do over, we would have cut out Lisbon altogether. Porto had a lighter, safer feel by far, and there was so much more to see, and a lot of it not that far from the door of this hotel.
After a week, we were grateful to discover \"LavaWash\" Laundromat, a charming, and well maintained little place to do load of laundry, while reading a little, etc.

FANTASTIC stay at this new hotel in a rapidly gentrifying area. Everything in the hotel is spotless and new, with a great design sense, simple, comfortable, and fun. We had a room on the street and I was worried about noise, but the renovation of the hotel included 2 layers of windows and it was soundproofed, with blackout shades. Monica, the owner, designed and works in this small gem of a hotel, and goes out of her way to help with anything. Great breakfast also. The neighborhood is totally on the upswing, with many new restaurants and trendy places, and wonderful places to eat. It always felt completely safe, even late at night, and it was still an area that was genuinely lived in my residents in Porto. Shoutout also to a wonderful place to eat about a block down the street called WeePorto, where you can get a personalized winetasting, and great food prepared by the owner, Maximo.

The rooms are huge! Great service and less than a 5 minute walk from the busy areas so it's quiet at night. A little cafe right outside the doors- very clean and very new. They told us it was just finished a complete renovation of this hotel in January. Highly recommend but only 5 rooms in the place.
