This is your typical APA experience, although the room was bigger than the ones in the APA hotels in Tokyo. The room was clean, comfortable, and had all the expected amenities. The location was right in the middle of downtown, where you have the main street full of shops. It's also minutes away from Aspam. The Aomori train station is walkable as well. Theres also a bus stop nearby where the airport bus stops. A Lawson convince store is found across the street.

For the price, the room was cramped and tiny.
The laundry facility was a welcome relief, though the dryers were slow, and consequently expensive. It was pretty hard to find a place to eat dinner, other than the izakayas (i.e., bars.)

Very Uncomfortable - Avoid This Place

Very uncomfortable beds and pillows, tiny double bed. Had to change rooms to twin beds to get a decent night's sleep and even then the pillows gave us back and neck pain. No A/C, the entire building has central heat and air and since it was late April they had not yet switched over to A/C. The room on the 7th floor was unbearably hot even though it was only 75F outside.

Slow wifi, tiny bathroom with sink and shower sharing same water supply. Only 1 staff member even basic English and she was the new trainee. When I complained to the manager his response was to suggest I change to another hotel in the middle of my stay. Would never stay here again.

The location is an 8-10 mins walk from Aomori station so you don’t need to take the bus. The bus route from the station can be very confusing so walking is better. From the hotel, it’s about 10-15 mins walk to the other tourist areas.

The breakfast buffet had local items but they were only written in Japanese so I couldn’t read what they were. I only had rice, miso based soup and natto which are the only ones I know besides bread. I wish there was egg at least.

The staff were very nice even with their limited English.

The room itself feels smaller than usual. The bathroom tub is so narrow that the shower kept splashing over the curtains so the floor got wet.

Also, the building is old and it has a bit of an odour from the carpet maybe? The elevator smells of cigarette which had been stuck there for years.

The one problem I had was with the parking. Paying doesn't guarantee you a spot, it just allows you to have one. It's possible to pay for parking and then not be able to park. Other than that, the stay was good.

The view was fantastic, overlooking the local shrine. The bed was divinely comfortable with great pillowy bedding and good support. The staff were happy to talk to me and keep me informed about stowing my bags until check-in, bus stops/shuttle times, and local food. It was a great stay in an underrated, sleepy town.

This is one of the older business class hotels. But it has had some face lifting and isn’t as tired looking as others I stayed in on this trip. Good value and well situated in downtown. A mere 15 minute walk from train. Staff were very helpful even with the language barriers common to Japan. Lovely town!

Check in was simple and easy. Room was clean, pretty compact, efficiently laid out with no drawer or shelf storage for clothes. Bathroom was well supplied but small and the shower had a mind of its own. Hotel location was good for the Nebuta and the central activities. A short walk from the main train station.

Not too bad but bad smell in the elevators

To be fair the hotel is okay given that it doesn't charge a lot. The staff was all very friendly and willing to help. The breakfast buffet was awesome - a good choice of mainly Japanese dishes. The problems was mostly infrastructural. The elevators smelled terrible. Maybe it's because they open on smoking floors or people just don't care and smoke in them. The bedding was clean but not in a good condition - it didn't feel flat and inclined toward one side. You cannot adjust the temperature of the air conditioning. You can only choose different volume of air or turn it off entirely. Overall if you're looking for a budget hotel this is still a not bad choice given that newer and more pricey hotels are abundant in this area. This hotel is only a few blocks from the train station and it was a way walk.

Unfortunately, no laundry facilities onsite. Instead you have to go to the alternate APA two blocks away. Not all guests follow non-smoking rules. There was the smell of smoking at night and morning that would waft in to my room .

The room rate of the hotel was over 5 times of off season rates. It’s understandable as that was Sakura season. However, the cleanliness, services, breakfast quality seems haven’t has any up-grade. The carpet was still very dirty after daily clean up services. Apart from this, the staff were helpful and friendly. The location is great.

Overall very average stay. It was our first experience of APA and we are unlikely to use them again. The staff are friendly and welcoming and gave us assistance when needed for example a new pillow and toilet roll supply. However the decor past the lobby is tired and the smoking floors leave a smell throughout the building. The walls are obviously very thin as we could hear other guests whether it be coughing or loud snoring. It was a bad night sleep around particularly as the pillow was flat and hard until I requested a new one for our second night. The rooms are small as expected. Overall it is an average hotel in need of a facelift and update.

I like the APA hotel chain system. And this one was one of the best of them. Staffs are all very friendly and helpful. I had no vacancy at non-smoking room although I checked in as early as 2pm, probably because I stayed four nights long. But the room didn't smell very much(but the corridor did), I liked it. Need to walk a little more than the other APA hotel in aomori, but staffs here are so nice, definitely worth the walk. Like all other APA hotels, bathroom ventilation goes off when you go out, which might cause trouble with shower curtain. In my room, 'drinkable water' sticker was worn out and hard to read. Better change it.

Wonderful central place with great service

Wonderful service and place to stay, that is local to pretty much everything in aomori (7 min walk to most places). A little small, but standard size for the local Japanese business traveller. Best bit probably was the great quality amenities provided for use. The hotel staff listened to our requests attentively, and were prompt to help. Tip: you can ask for a more fluffy plump pillow if you don't have one. Some basic level of Japanese is ideal but English only travellers should get by fine with some patience.

First day in Tohuku region

We asked for non smoking room - was given the last floor but I think there was still smoking in general. Very difficult to breathe but the windows do open so with the winter cold, it made the air tolerable.

Washroom is typical size for Japan.
Bed is typical size for Japan.

We are walking distance from a main shopping street and a mall so that was ok.

About 15 mins walk to a public bath - with outdoor and indoor baths.

A lot of snow - so proper shoes is important.

Easy to find by driving - we drove from shin Aomori station.

Though the room is small but this is worth what we paid. We went to Aomori during the winter and probably the heater works so well that we can stay in the room comfortably. Opposite the hotel, there is Lawson which is so helpful when we were hungry late at night.

weekend escape from Tokyo; value/price is fair. arrived about 1.5 hour earlier than check-in time but still could not get in until after check-in time. I guess it just follows the rule typical in Japan.

Breakfast is not bad comparing with other APA hotels'; walking distance to some popular spots and ocean park; good. Was able to see some preparations of Nebuta festival to be held in August.

Aomori is a nice small city. Hotel is about 2 blocks from waterfront which has nice boardwalk and sculptures. The Nebuta Museum is a few blocks away and is great. There are several good art museums in area. Top notch! Hotel about 6 blocks from JR station. Directly across from a convenience store. A number of restaurants within several blocks.

Stay here and take a day trip to Hirosaki

This hotel is on the bus rout from the airport and an easy 8 minute walk to the train station so unless it's raining it's a great easy location. Very near to the harbor and parks and there are good restaurants nearby. We took the train to Hirosaki for the day which was easy and much better to stay in Aomori for train connections out. Famous for their rice and sake!!

There were a lot of guests smoking I elevators etc and in the room we booked but after one woman at front desk said nothing could be done about smokey room, a man There worked to change our room to a non smokey upgrade. Thanks to him the constant smoke from other guests in elevators and halls was tolerable.
