Room smells mouldy, unable to open the door to the balcony, can hear noises next door easily
Showers not adjustable heights and low pressure
No lift in the building and no staff assistance for carrying luggage up and down 3 floors of stairs
No tea making facility or fridges to store foods in.
Have been to other yha hostels and this one unfortunately is subpar.

No elevators, consider this if you have large luagges. Very close to the cathedral, the bell ring every 15 min to 1 hour, even in mid night (12 pm). If you are light sleeper, think carefully.

The staff is friendly and helpful, neibours are polite and noise from neighbors are less than I imagined

It's a good choice for a weekend, In and out of London. It has the basics a bed and a roof over your head. they do offer private rooms which is the one I got and it was perfect for me.
They offer food on site,(didn't get the chance to try it, but it smell delicious) all the transport options are within walking distance.

Excellent hostile but I was surprised to find that there was no fridge or microwave for the guests. Bonus having a sink in the room. Loved the breakfast buffet option tho. Convenient location, close to many restaurants, tourist sights, and shops. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Allowed us to check in early since room was ready. Was a bit pricier than most hostiles but would definitely go back. Only thing we did not like was that no one kept the noisy guests in line. Our room was between rooms with young, foreign girls who seemed to be drunk and were extremely loud (laughing/screaming, slamming doors, running in halls) very late at night. Had absolutely no regard for other guests. They truly acted like children

Decent for youth hostel, needs better upkeep

Not bad for a youth hostel. I booked a two-bed private room for my friend and myself to split. It was comfortable enough, and it was nice having a wash sink in the room so that we didn't need to go to the shared toilets every time we needed a sink.

The beds had built-in power outlets, however they didn't really work well. We ended up using the wall outlets to charge our electronics. We were also right next to the showers but one of them was out of order. The toilets were at the end of the hall but one of them was out of order as well, so I ended up needing to wait for one to become available a couple times.

It wasn't too noisy considering we were facing a busy street and some people complain about the bells coming from St. Paul's being distracting as they ring essentially every 15 minutes, but I got used to it pretty quickly and was able to sleep just fine.

Wifi is only available in the shared spaces and not the rooms, so that might be difficult for people who rely on wifi connection.

We didn't take advantage of their breakfast offerings, though they seem to have a nice variety of hot and cold food to choose from. They even seemed to have a couple vegan items that I could have eaten, but I wasn't going to pay nearly £10 just to only eat like two items.

Check in and check out were easy.

The room carpet really needs re fitted, dirty around the edge and lifting. The building stairs look like they also need replaced as there are metal supports in place.

I’ve stayed in many YHA’s over the years and this wasn’t one of the best. There is external work going on and I wonder if they will be updating the interiors as it’s looking somewhat shabby. The shower closest to our room didn’t work properly. I checked in very late at night and just wanted to get to bed and for sone reason the check in process took much longer than necessary

Room is not clean. It was half basement. Couldnt open the window to refresh the air. Flushing the toilet got problem. It doesnt flush all the way. No hair dryer. No wifi in the room. Staying in this hostel was terrible. Staff was really nice tho

The property is in angles almost to the perfect because it’s manned 24/7 which is great help to the customers. The property itself is well facilitated with big open lounge, kitchen, dinner and dormitories. They all were very neat, clean, tidy and well presented. Above all I felt cheap to stay in this property in the central London.

The softest, fluffiest comforter blankets I've ever seen at a hostel!!! So cozy! Staff was friendly and helpful.
The showers and bathrooms beete Itsy bitysy and could have used some hooks, shelves, space for placing toothbrushes etc and hanging clothes while washing up.
Convenient location, right by train and metro!

My second night there, I walked into my room and there were no empty beds. After checking back with the desk, they had booked my bed out. I had to move all of my things in the middle of the night to a new room, which I also had to pay to upgrade.

Great place to stay for the $ consensus traveller. You can book a dorm or private room for 2 for a fraction of the cost of name brand hotels. Rooms were clean but lacked things like a TV. Washrooms were clean but shared. I have stayed at this particular Youth Hostel several time over the last 35 years and hopefully will stay here again. 👍 10

I am autistic. Appalling treatment by the hostel manager and subsequent lack of support from customer services. I booked through Expedia and received standard booking confirmation. Thought no more of it. Hostel demanded two forms of ID. I only had bank card with me. Panic of being alone in London, needing to stay somewhere quiet, and unexpected demands resulted in a meltdown made worse by ignorant manager. If you have any vulnerabilities and lack people at home to help you DO NOT BOOK YHA. Go to a Travelogue instead. Eventually my sister booked and paid for a room at Travelogue London Bank for me. It was a perfect retreat walking distance from St Paul's (a quiet area at the weekend).

Excellent location for central areas . We had thought we had ordered a room with toilet based on the description - this turned out to be just a sink . Two out of four toilets were out of order ( one flooded but not signed / cleaned up during our stay ) . The single bed had half a mattress size to base which made for a hard uncomfortable night .

Pros:
Nice, clean and generally spacious rooms with high ceilings that don’t make you feel claustrophobic.

Showers was really big for a hostel with an extra space so you could hang your stuff without getting everything wet.

Rooms also feel pretty secure since you need to pass quite a few doors (could only access with your door card) before reaching.

Could hear the St. Paul’s church bells ringing every half hour if you’re into that lol. (Unfortunate for you if you’re a very light sleeper)

Cons:
One thing that isn’t a huge disappointment me is the lack of Wifi. That should be a bare minimum for hostels imo. Didn’t eat the breakfast so couldn’t comment on that - costs £6.25 and we thought it’d be better to save our money for something in the city. Also, bring your own lock for your room locker. Guess I’m too used to hostels in Europe that provide everything from computers to walking tours to free sangria every night and am constantly making the comparison!

But overall it’s good value for an expensive city like London I guess!

My brief was more enjoyable than I anticipated. Everyone was really friendly; everywhere was clean; the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I particularly appreciated the comfortable lounge where I could spend time in the evening.The breakfast was a great one to set me up for an important meeting. Without a doubt I would stay there again - though perhaps next time I would ask for a lower bunk, as I'm no spring chicken. Getting up to the top bunk was fine, but I was a bit wobbly coming down!

\"Convenient, clean and budget friendly\"

This is honestly a fantastic option for anyone wanting something convenient, clean and budget friendly. With few downsides I highly recommend it!
All the staff were friendly and happy to help at any time. They even printed stuff out for me which was fantastic!
The room was clean and exactly as pictured with usb and plug outlets for each bed on each bunk!
The location is super convenient; close to loads of food places and St Paul's station.
There were only a couple of downsides. The first being the showers. Each was in a booth with a section for keeping you clothes and towels and a shower part. Unfortunately the spray of the show goes really wide and basically sprays into the clothes section too. Also there was only 1-2 hooks for clothes and no real place to put them that avoids moisture.
The other thing to note when booking here is that one of its selling points is that it's quite centrally located which is great but it means that there is a whole lot of noise outside at all times of night. There's the cathedral (which you can actually get used to so it's not that bad), fairly regular drunk people walking past (not the hostels fault really but annoying nonetheless), and finally and most annoyingly there's some sort of business that delivers or something all night so they're loudly loading their truck intermittently all the time.

No A/C. It would have been okay if the fan had a little more power. Clean toilets and showers. Weak WiFi even in the lobby area. Hearty English breakfast. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes, beans, toast, crackerscoffee, juice & milk and it was only £6.00 a person. Took the red dbl decker bus everywhere cheaper than the tube. We bought the Oyster card for the bus and anything left over on the card you can get the refund back. Hostel right across the street from St. Paul’s Cathedral. Great location. Friendly staff and will answer any questions you have. Comfortable beds and spacious room for 4 people. We had a sink in our room and was very convenient.

Nice staff and gray location!

Older hotel and doesn’t have a lift. Be prepared to walk up lots of stairs if they place you on a high floor. I’ve been twice and the local area is beautiful with lots of shops, pubs, groceries and restaurants. The tube is a few minute walk away and the millennial bridge is nearby as well. I love to hear the St. Paul’s Church bells ring throughout the day/night. It could get a little noisy with the outside happenings so bring ear plugs. The bathrooms were cleaned throughout the day and I loved the big lockers. The staff was very nice and helpful. This will be my spot to go when I’m solo in London!

The YHA is located right next to St Paul's cathedral and the St Paul's tube stop so there's great access to all of London. The hostel is clean and the bed is comfortable. We had a breakfast and it was a decent buffet style with good options. The staff were friendly and courteous during my stay. With its proximity to the cathedral then expect to hear the bells, this didn't affect me but could affect others. Only negative is no real takeaways in the area but that's not the YHAs fault. :)

Pretty much your standard, no-frills budget hostel. The biggest discomfort was how hot and stuffy the entire hostel was, especially the dorm room. Although it was abnormally hot in London and many places do not have AC, there was absolutely no air circulation whatsoever--no fans, no draft--just sticky hotness. Even when it cooled down outside, our room was a good 15 degrees (F) warmer than the outside temperature. The shower closest to my room was broken, so I had to go through several security doors and two flights of stairs to get to a shower that worked. I did, however, like the location--easy to find and within walking distance of many attractions!

Too hot to sleep though and we couldn’t open the windows -too stiff, even the staff struggled but to be fair they did offer to move us. Only two toilets near our room and one was out of order. The other was engaged more often than not which meant a trek up a flight of stairs and along a corridor when we needed the toilet

Overall this hostel was average. When I walked into my room on arrival it was freezing, and the high windows gave the impression of a prison cell. For me, a room with an ambient temperature is a very basic requirement/expectation. This was not met.

The bathroom facilities were appalling. Toilets and showers with only slightly more room than a coffin. I know this is London, but these really were below basic. I also burnt my arm on the hot water pipe during both showers I took. This probably wouldn’t have occurred if I had more room to avoid the hot water pipe. Also, nowhere to put clothes/toiletries whilst showering. Usually resulting in wet clothes.

The staff were friendly and hospitable -The one redeeming feature. Nevertheless, I will do my utmost to avoid returning here in the future.

Great place to stay

Great hostel just steps from St Pauls. We booked an entire room for our family, and it was clean and comfortable. Laundry facilities were a welcome amenity and the breakfast was good and reasonably priced. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go from here, or it's also a short walk to the St Pauls Underground station. Highly recommend.

The place is at a fabulous location, easily accessible. The facilities were okay, as it didn’t have an inbuilt toilet which would be easier for people who have difficulty especially pregnant people. The cleanliness is appreciated, and smells nice. It would be much appreciated if the guests were provided with atleast a hand towel/bath towel for everyday use. Because some of us come for 1-2 days stay and bring very minimal.
Otherwise overall the stay was good. We came to enjoy the fireworks and we did. The breakfast was good and satisfying.

I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed my stay. The beds were clean and the room was okay. It's located about a minute from St. Paul's Cathedral and it was pretty easy to get around London from there. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The wifi only worked in the lobby for me so it sucked having to go down to the lobby to use my phone and make calls. The breakfast was ok, but you could definitely find a better breakfast at a similar price nearby, so I wouldn't bother paying extra for it. Honestly, besides the whole wifi situation I'd definitely stay here again.

Excellent Value & Location. But Be Warned...

Pros:
- Very comfortable common space -- plenty of sofas / armchairs, TV, electrical outlets
- Electrical outlet and USB ports were very nice to have right in my bunk
- Surprisingly large cubbies in rooms -- maybe 2' x 3' x 4'? -- much larger than I've seen at other hostels
- If you've forgotten any items, chances are they'll have it for purchase at reception. Very convenient.
- Incredibly friendly staff :)
- Showers: hot water right away, pretty good water pressure
- Excellent location. Near two major Tube lines (Blackfriars and St Paul). Literally across the street from St Paul's Cathedral

Cons:
- Wifi - pretty slow, constantly dropped, and was frustrating to work with. It was also completely down for the first 2 days of my stay.
- Not great if you have issues with noise. Church bells, ppl walking down the street, VERY loud bar goers Thursday through Sunday nights
- There were very large school groups staying at the hostel during my stay (perhaps 10-12 year olds?). - This was not the hostel's fault, but because of that, it was nearly impossible to get breakfast or dinner as they took over the entire dining room.
- Bedside lights at each bunk is nice. But the light is SOO bright and mimics daylight. If you want to use your light to read, it greatly illuminates the entire room (which wakes up everyone else in the room). Amber-tinted lights or lights that are less bright would be a great improvement.

The folks that work here are some of the nicest people I've met on my trip. Very friendly and outgoing. The rooms and facilities are in an older building. There is a breakfast offered for about £6 or so, which is great for what they have on offer.

There was only one toilet and one shower for many rooms on the floor.

The restrooms and showers are a bit crammed up but apart from that its a good value for money accommodation (if not plush) at a convenient and easy to get to location. The staff was very polite and helpful. Breakfast is recommended.
Overall a decent stay for students and backpackers.

Great location, clean rooms but loud bells!!!

This hostel is in a great location and the rooms/facilities are clean. The staff were very friendly. Unfortunately as this hostel is right next to St Paul's the bells are very loud. It felt like they rang every 15 mins through the night. The room was warm so we had the window open and the bells did keep me awake on our first night but by our second night I was used to them.

Convenient location for central London. Clean and tidy. Bed a little cramped and uncomfortable plus the plug socket did not work however, I was able to use the one from the bunk above. I stayed in the 12 bed mixed dorm. Was not full but the other guests were friendly. Self service breakfast of cereal, juice and toast with jam or marmalade. Clear signage about washing up after yourself.

I stayed here for about 13 nights and was very pleased with my first hostel experience. If you need to get laundry soap or a padlock there, the prices are reasonable (3gbp for a padlock and 1gbp for two washing tablets). Definitely better than other places I've heard of charging extra for those things. I did not have the breakfast but did have dinner a couple of times there. It wasn't anything fancy but was nice when I was being lazy. The new beds with outlets for each person are really nice. I booked a room for 11 and ended up in a room for 8, which I won't complain with at all. The security in the hostel is pretty up to date as your card will only let you go to your room and not to other areas. Also the housekeeping seems to come by a good amount and the bathroom/shower area was never dirty.

Fabulously close to the Cathedral and Tate Modern

Good value for money, and very helpful and friendly staff! You do hear the bells every fifteen minutes, so take ear plugs. Easy to get to Drury Lane on foot too.

My room was so not what I expected however totally value for money, all front of house staff were really first rate. If you are a light sleeper then the noise of St Paul,s clock bell would be a nuisance so ask about the ear plugs the have at reception. This is not the Ritz but does not claim to be

Good hostel but small room

The reception at the hostel were friendly. The kitchen staff were rude... just one lady in particular would not serve breakfast to us because it was three minutes to 7:30. Our room was a private double bunk it was small but good for one night. The hostel had a comfortable vibe I just wish the staff would have showed us around as I didn't know there was a lounge. Overall I would stay here again but would like to see friendlier staff

Excellent hostel and location

We stayed in a room that has one bunk bed and a private bathroom shower. The room was spacious for a hostel in London. The staff was very friendly and helpful in regards to the accommodations and recommendations of things to do in the city. Room 4, which we stayed, faced the front of the building. It was problematic for sleeping with St. Paul's church bells going off every 15 minutes until midnight and starting again at 6am. Also, with so many bars in proximity, there was constantly screaming of drinkers through 1am and a daily trash pickup of the surrounding businesses around 5am. I didn't get a good nights sleep for the week I stayed there. This is no fault to the hostel but it's something to keep in mind if you book the private 2-person room here.

Overall, not a bad hostel, but the rooms were very dirty and the bathrooms were not cleaned often at all. The showers and toilets are in the hall, so make sure you bring towels, shower shoes and toiletries. For the amenities, the price was too high. There are nice hotels for a very similar price.

Nice hostel in old building, no lift, quite few stairs. Easy to find. Close to undergroud, bus stops, heart of town. Nice and friendly staff, very helpfull. Nice meals, not expensive. My room was very big and comfortable. Minus - no bedside lamps. Good value.

Amazing location. Great ambiance in the main areas

Awesome location. Just loved it.
The staff were lovely and helpful.
The main areas have a delightful and genuine charm. I liked the architecture and decor.
The bedrooms/dorms are very basic.....the wood surround on and around the bunks could actually be dangerous.......especially if you get in late or have to leave early ie being in the dark.
The toilets and showers would benefit from a facelift.

Basic but all I want from a cheap hostel

Very basic hostel, if all you're looking for is a bed for the night then look no further. It's situated in a great location and is a stones throw from St Pauls cathedral and Tube station. One thing that I didn't take in to consideration when I booked was the bell ringers at the Cathedral. I slept like a punch from Mike Tyson (probably more to do with the alcohol than anything) but my friends complained that they heard the chimes of the bell every hour and didn't get the best nights sleep. Nonetheless, ideal for a cheap group of friends to stay at for a day or two.

Clean and cozy

2 nights stay in women shared room. Booked online separately so asked them to arrange no-change bed. They took care of it. Very close to St.Paul but I didn't find the logo because there was a truck in front of it, so actually I passed through first. You can leave your luggage before checkin. The luggage room is downstairs and the bed rooms are upstairs, but there is no lift. It was really tough to carry my heavy suitcase. My room has a personal locker and sink. It was very nice and convenient to have a sink in the room.

Good for the price

Overall the stay was good. The Hostel conditions were good for the price. Hotels.com had made an error with the booking placing me in a different room on one of my 5 nights. Upon my check in the hostel was great in finding me one room to stay in for the entire 5 day stay. The second floor 5 bed room I stayed in was overdue for remodeling (I understand they are currently in the process of remodeling rooms). Only one outlet in the room was a downfall. The floor creaked and door hinges to room were very noisy even when wearing ear plugs. Very pleased with the price and the location. Great location from bus stops and train stations as well as major city attractions.

Nice central location, but staff are turn-offs.

I stayed 9 nights. I was in a top floor 4th or 5th without an elevator. Staff were nit very nice or kind. They are very cheap with amt of food they give you, whuch you paid for. It just makes you feel un-welcomed in many ways.
