Think my stay was more bad timing than anything. Only stayed for one night and told at check-in the restaurant wasn’t going to be open that evening but I could use the bar. The bar only has two lagers on draught and they had ran out of the one I wanted. Food menu at the bar was limited but what I had was tasty to be fair. Bed and shower was ok. Tv was small compared to the norm these days. Bathroom sink tap was loose, broken and leaking and couldn’t get cold water for the kettle. It was only the one night stay so I didn’t make a fuss. Staff were nice and friendly but the hotel manager looked miserable as hell. Not sure a saw a smile all night.

Overall, my stay was enjoyable & the staff were nothing but polite & helpful - I can see how hard everyone is working there to provide an excellent service but I have the following issues to report.
I stayed in 'Botham' which is a large room/suite.
1. There was a fault with the lights, meaning that the only light available to me was the 2 bedside lights - considering the room is a suite, this was inadequate. I reported the issue & the manager came quickly to try and resolve the matter, but despite resetting the trip, the lights kept tripping out. The hotel was fully booked, so a couple of portable LED lamps were provided - not great, but the best that could be done.
2. The sash window was jammed partly open, so noise from outside in the morning woke me at 6.45am.
3. The shower didn't drain properly, so when I stepped out of the shower, almost the whole bathroom floor was flooded.
4. The wall in the bathroom by the sink is badly marked (as a result of the towel rail becoming detached at some point by the look of it).
5. The ceiling in the pool looks a bit tatty, with quite a few slats missing.
6. I ordered a burger & fries & it was OK, nothing special in all honesty - just OK.
7. There is a low-frequency humming noise near the restaurant - could be an AC fan or something, but it's quite loud & detracts from the dining experience - it must drive the staff mad!

The hotel just needs some TLC & a bit of a spruce up, but despite the above points, I would stay again.

The hotel room was clean with all the essentials. However, the walls were cracking, there were marks on the walls, and I could hear every noise. I booked a suite, but it was unavailable due to maintenance issues. I received a dinner credit, but the food was awful with very little selection. The bartender was bordering on rude. I would not stay here again.

The staff were so helpful giving us advice for travelling into the city. We arrived at 11 after driving from Manchester and there were quite a few parking spaces available. 10/10

Our stay included myself (39F) and my son (9). Upon arrival all the reception staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was ready on time. Everything was clean and felt welcoming. We were out for the evening meal, but at reception they asked so they would be able to be ok us a table if needed. We did book in for breakfast in the morning. The room was clean and my son and I had a good night sleep. We enjoyed breakfast the next morning. Checkout was very simple and staff were once again extremely kind and helpful. We would definitely stay again!

A great property that is beautiful from the outside and lobby/corridors. With small but tidy rooms. Sadly marred by the surly and unfriendly attitude of the reception staff. Who acted like they were too important to be there and made us wait for ages. Then on going down towel under arm not ten minutes later, only found out the pool needed signing in and was now at capacity by overhearing a conversation, after we had clearly said we wanted to use it and not been informed at the time.

Was awoken early the next morning by a member of staff hoovering a marble floor (?) and seemingly making as much noise as physically possible.

It's a shame as otherwise it's a great place to stay.

The property was in a perfect location for Warner Brothers studio tour. Good price. Room was comfortable with tea, TV etc. Stunning grounds to walk round in a beautiful setting. Needs a bit of TLC though. Lots of scratched and paint marks down the corridors, walls and doors.

Checking in was a disaster. Arrived for 3pm which is check in time, room wasn’t ready. We had to be somewhere for 3:30pm so had to aboert check in & do this around 9pm. Need more staff when it’s busy so rooms are ready on time

The hotel is a mixed bag. The main building is grand and impressive, but mostly used for events and the bar. The rest of the hotel is tired in places. Our room was supposed to have air conditioning, but the \"air conditioning unit\" was only a fan with no capability to cool the air. Upon broaching the subject with reception staff I was asked to \"just open a window\" which was not the answer I was looking for. I requested a desk fan which they told me they'd look into providing. But never received one. It wasn't even a hot day, but the room was stifling. And strangely the radiators in the corridors were all set to full power. Our bedroom shower room had signs of mould on the ceiling and had a musty smell upon entering it. The hotel pool is a nice benefit, but again is in need of repair, the ceiling is damaged and the changing rooms are poorly presented. Breakfast was good quality and mostly well stocked, the staff were helpful when called upon. The grounds of the hotel are large and could be a real asset but unfortunately are also neglected. The best parts of the hotel are lovely. But the worst parts drag the rest of it down.

Access down to reception via steps with no provision for a ramp for disabled or guests with luggage.

Rooms clean generally but in need of redecoration. Attended an Indian wedding reception, and noticed that the only mirror was on the bathroom. Wife complained of no full-length mirror in the room.

Breakfast very good, items replenished when asked. Bar meals, small choice but very good. Unfortunately the coffee served at the bar was not, flat white cold and weak, black Americano hot but very weak & watery. However, coffee & hot chocolate from machine at breakfast was excellent! Staff friendly & reception very welcoming. Did not eat in restaurant as menu not to all of out tastes. Towels in room large & soft, bed comfy. Grounds beautiful and plenty of outdoor seating too.

Not happy with Hotels.com at checkin. The price I actually paid was more than the hotel said I had paid. Queried this with Hotels.com and was told I should not have been told that price by reception, as that was Hotels.com negotiated price. I told reception this and they said this is what is always shown to guests. I had to sign the printout. Not happy.

Lovely room and comfortable beds, the carpet was an awful pattern though. Might give you a migraine or epileptic fit! No plug or light by the kettle and tea and coffee making station. Had to ask for extra supplies though, as not enough to actually make two drinks with. Bring your own biscuits as none supplied.

Breakfast was ok, but like a lot of hotels the fried eggs were not fried, but steamed! It’s not the same! Lots of parking. Quiet and in a nice parkland.

We had some issues with the original room and were changed almost immediately.
Both rooms we were in are in desperate need of some TLC, a repaint, some basic maintenance and in the one we slept in, a new mattress. Rooms are very small too. We saw two cracked windows in the walkway from reception to rooms - risk assessment!!!
The staff were very nice, helpful and I'm sure they feel that they are fighting an uphill battle.
Breakfast was adequate at best.
Parking is ok. More options for access to shift luggage would help rather than the long walk via reception!
I used to live nearby and this hotel has a more upmarket image but having stayed there I wouldn't use again if I could get a premier inn for less money!
The Main House is very nice to look at and walk around but the separate accommodation block is below par, a completely separate entity.
It wasn't an awful experience but certainly not value for money.

The breakfast was £10/$15 per breakfast, dining room very pleasant, a good selection od hot and cold drinls, breakfast food , cereals, fruits, and good selection of meats all looking fresh, hot food was well presented and wholesome, eggs,bacon,sausage,mushrooms,hashbroens, bread,bread rolls,butter and a toaster.
The reception personnel were always pleasant and accomodating, one morning there was an inspector checking food quality, general hotel inspections stuff so good to know all was on board. Parking was safe and enclosed, quiet place to rest and super grounds for relaxing and taking in pleasant nature walks.
The room was clean, and shower was great, bed comfortable.
Decor was tasteful and suited to relaxation.

Had to swop rooms twice as first room paint was scuffed, bed not clean. 2nd room (upgraded to superior) was right next to air con which kept me awake all night, has cracks in paint work and mould in bathroom. 3rd room was very nice.
Staff were lovely and bar area was nice. Gardens beautiful. Rest of hotel (not shown in website) photos needs renovation with broken window in corridors, scuffed and peeling paint.

The room was very clean, and the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. We used the restaurant in the evening, and the food, although plain, was well-cooked and well-presented. The breakfast was great, and even though it was self-service, the food was fresh and replenished regularly. The grounds are wonderful, and the hotel is quiet and away from major roads.
Thoroughly enjoyed being there.

Overall for the price we payed it was “barely” acceptable. Didn’t get a great nights sleep. Noise of the heat/air con in the ceiling added to the noise throughout the night.

Room: Clean room, welcome cake and petals on the bed. Nice and modern with all amenities you’d hope to see. Only negative was that the room was very loud. We could hear everyone’s conversation extremely clearly as they walked past our room which did wake us up, especially as we were by the start of the corridor in room 47.

Hotel as a whole: Grounds were well kept however very quiet. I assume the hotel is a venue for conferences and weddings as lots of function rooms.

Staff: Staff were 50/50. Some lovely others not so warm.

Other facilities: Pool we didn’t use. Restaurant not used. Breakfast was nice. A good selection for £10pp and open from 8-11 which we thought was very good, normally breakfast stops at 10 so this was nice to see. Bar was small, it wasn’t busy so it was okay but I could imagine it different if busy.

Hotel was good for a one night stopover. Clean rooms but walls paper thin could hear next doors conversation, bed was firm with good fluffy pillows, basic breakfast but enough to fulfil expectations.
Photos of property feel a little misleading as you do not go into main property, the hotel reception is a separate building and standard rooms are in another building attached to that. We stayed in a standard double.

Amazing hotel beautiful location, lovely grounds. The staff were really lovely and helpful, with everything they gave us a map to Harry Potter as the hotel is a Perfect location if you are visiting the Warner brothers studio. It’s a 20 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride for £6. There is Nothing else in the area to do, however, you can visit the town of Watford, which is a 10minute taxi ride away £10. Lots of pubs and restaurants

The room was clean but cold, the air con allowed a heating mode but was so noisy this could not be used over night, after asking an extra duvet was provided which helped a bit.
The TV only worked on terrestrial channels, and also only worked on the first day, the second night of our stay it did not work, the remote was also reluctant to work. I was too tired and cold to request a solution.
The hotel website does not explicitly say that the main accomodation is housed outside of the main house with it's art deco interior. This was disappointing, although we still found the baby grande piano to play.
On a positive the swimming pool was warm and lovely to be able to access. The food was good, the staff were professional and attentive. A 20minute walk round to HPstudio made the hotel perfectly placed, but it felt that with the above issues it played on this factor.

Went for wife’s 40th birthday. Gardens and grounds are lovely, if a little tricky to access.

Room was in ok condition, decor looked a little tired but clean, fresh and acceptable.

What was NOT acceptable was the exceptionally thin walls between our room and next. When you could hear the next room using the bathroom clearly and also being woke at midnight to the sound of a group of drunken guests next door it does ruin the stay.

I can’t stress how clearly we could hear them, we we woke we at first thought people had came into our room.

We rang to reception who then rang/called the room and they did quieten eventually but it did take the shine off our stay over and took us to 1am to get back to sleep.

Tired the next morning we got a 1/2 apology from the reception.

The app wouldn’t let us book dinner at the restaurant and there was no tables free when we arrived, ate at the bar. Expensive enough for what it was.

Would look elsewhere in future which is pity as it has stunning grounds and potential.

The pool ceiling needs repairing. Would have been helpful to know in advance about pool availability due to closure for swimming lessons.
Very good value breakfast with good choices. Would stay again.

Poor lighting in superior room as was there for an event really struggled to put make up on right as did my partner when he had to trim his beard into shape. Same for the bathroom lighting. Room could have done with another mirror in another place.
Not great choice of hotel food menu.
Bed not big enough for 2 grown adults especially if adult size are not petite.
