Staff was outstanding, even helping us transport our bicycle panniers from the storage area up to our rooms and then making us a reservation to get dinner right before closing time at a local restaurant on a barge along the Loire. One of the best breakfasts we’ve had during our time in France

AIR CONDITIONNING SET TO 24DegC. Too hot!
Because of flying bugs, we couldnt open the window, so we had to sweat.

At night, the walk from the car park to the hotel is in the total obscurity. No solar powered light installed for the guest's security.

These 2 issues are easy to fix.

Lovely hotel in an ideal position by the river. Our only complains that there were very thin cardboard cups in the rooms for hot drinks. We understand they are trying to be eco friend it surely proper cups that can be washed are more environmentally friendly

Very worn out and outdated, from the carpets to door handles everything looks ancient; needs a major refurbishment urgently.

Also very noisy, the rooms with river view are above the patio restaurant, so in the morning during breakfast, you hear loud cutlery sounds for 2-3 hours, are you not supposed to have a layin during holidays?

Nice stay and great views

The hotel is well-located in the center of the city, on the water. Unfortunately we had a room with a window on the street, but the Loire and the old Saumur made a great scenery for breakfast.
The historic part of the city and all its restaurants are across the bridge, at most a 10 minute walk.
The room was nice, the bed comfortable. The only negative point was the presence of a few hairs behind the bathroom door when we came in. The receptionist was quick, agreable and helpful, giving us tips on where to find a vegetarian option in the city.

Lovely location - fabulous views of the chateau - and good parking nearby. Room was fine if a little basic for supposedly ****? Heating control didn’t function very well and one towel less than there should have been. Minimal staff and bar lacked any welcoming ambience. However breakfast was little short of superb!

Well-placed hotel with parking facilities, ten minutes walk from the restaurants of the old town across the bridge.

Efficient reception, room modern, clean, well-equipped and quiet despite being near lift from ground floor. Helpful staff gave good information about local eateries (including one to avoid!).

Buffet breakfast more than adequate, including a cooked option and an \"express\" croissant/coffee combo at the bar if you're in a hurry. A useful base for exploring the local vineyards.

We stayed here overnight travelling through France and what a great decision. We paid slightly more for a premium room with a Loire view and I would recommend you do that. Although Saumur is a beautiful town, the real joy is falling asleep and waking up to the view of the river and chateau. The room was superb in all aspects. The air con was really useful. Not only for keeping the room cool but also for mossie control. On that point, they are prevalent, but if you take sensible precautions as advised by the hotel you should have no issues. Reception was quick and polite and you are within 10 minutes walk of numerous cafés and restaurants. Private secure parking is available and free. We didn't eat so cannot comment, but would strongly recommend this hotel.

When I booked this hotel I checked whether the room had wheelchair facilities or not for my son. The response was favourable. The reality was very unfavourable.

The entrance to the room was very uncomfortable. The room was small and he was not able to comfortably manouver about. I also had to move the bed to give my son adequate space to get into bed. The bathroom was also another problem - it was extremely difficult to enter and very, very small. In fact, this was the most expensive of the five hotels we stayed in and had the worst facilities for him.

While both check-in and check-out receptionists were friendly and efficient their responses were that there will be accessible rooms in the future. Unfortunately, the future is not the present and I feel that I was provided with false information. If they do actually renovate the rooms - might I suggest that they install two beds instead of one double. Not every wheelchair person is a couple.

While the location is beautiful, I would be very slow to return to this hotel.

We will be back again!

Very satisfactory in every way. Charming staff - very helpful. Secure car park (pay), luggage trolley and lift to all floors. Fantastic views across river to Chateau. Right on edge of Loire so necessary to keep windows closed warm evenings cos of tiny midges. No problem with that view! No restaurant is ONLY negative but short walk to eat out in town. Breakfast buffet is spectacular. Huge choice inc eggs, bacon etc. Best thing; home-made Peach tart. Hugely recommend.

We loved the view of the river and the fort and it is definitely worth booking a room with a river view. Its a very nice hotel with close access to the centre of Samuar. The rooms were very nice and the breakfast excellent.

My only complaint was the plastic backed mattress protector on the bed which made it incredibly hot - we had to remove it to get some sleep and the quilt on the bed was a bit too heavy for the time of year.

Saumur is an ideal place to break up a journey from the UK to the south of France. It is a beautiful town with lovely views from the bridges and some decent restaurants too. The Mercure is well-situated with an excellent terrace bar giving a perfect view of the town. We have stayed here 4 times and have always been happy with the room and the facilities. The staff are very friendly and very efficient.

This is well up to the Mercure standard. Lovely views across the Loire to the chateau if you have ordered a river view room. Reception staff helpful and speak good English. Good breakfast if a bit expensive. It is a pity they do not have a restaurant but their recommended restaurant is only a 5 minute walk and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. To walk to the town across the bridge takes 10 - 15 minutes. Good parking facilities. There is a lot to do and see in this area and we recommend this hotel as a base.

Stunning views of chateau and river

One night stay on our journey from s of France back to St Malo. This was the fourth hotel we visited in six days. The hotel is brilliantly located and we had a room with great views. The room was fine, well equipped and clean but the whole hotel could do with a bit of redecorating just to freshen up. The underground car park is a bit tricky in terms of the ease of getting into the spaces. We had a small sports car but would have had difficulty parking something larger. The surface is large loose stones which makes turning difficult.

Four nights of excellent service. The staff took care to provide for our special requirements and looked after everyone to the very best standard. The breakfast views across the river to the city were spectacular, plenty of parking and ideally located to explore the region and sampling their great wines and even releasing some prisoners for home consumption.

Great Location

We selected the hotel due to the location on the river. We were given a room overlooking the river and it smelt of smoke, so we were moved to another where we found a half drunk bottle of water in the fridge, hair on the floor and bed and a toenail on the floor. When we complained the manager refused to believe us so we had to get her to come to the room. They recleaned the room and gave us a botle of fizz as compensation. Overall the room was fine in the end and the view was great.

Very nice hotel, some services withdrawn since last visit. No restaurant now. Receptionist seemed overworked in the evening - had to wait for service at the bar as the receptionist was doing a range of other jobs. Seemed understaffed at that time - one resident said he had waited 25 minutes for coffee! However lovely location, and handy for the town. Good value.

This hotel had a great location, was very comfortable and also had helpful staff. One of the benefits that I hadn't realised before we were there is that it is really close to the location where the act of surrender for the 2nd World War was signed. There is a small museum, the 'Salle de Reddition' in the building were Eisenhower's headquarters were based, a couple of hundred metres away, well worth visiting.
The only problem with this hotel is that you have to get to the other side of the rail way line to get into the town centre, so all restaurants etc are about a 10-15 minute walk away.

Good basic hotel with friendly staff

We were initially concerned that there was no dining room, but soon realised that it was not needed due to the number of excellent restaurants in Saumur. All the staff were very helpful & our room was very clean & comfortable with. A superb view of the chateau. It even had a large flat screen TV on which I was able to watch Andy Murray win Wimbledon. I would definitely use this hotel again if I returned to Saumur, despite the 20 minute walk to the restaurants!

The hotel is within walking distance of the town centre and some excellent restaurants. It is air-conditioned and has good parking facilities. The room was reasonable spacious and bed comfortable. The bar lounge looks out over the Loire. Thoroughly recommended.

We arrived late in the day, and the staff was ready for us and quite helpful. This is a good place to stay if you want a comfortable room with consistent quality. We did not find Samur to our liking as there were few places to eat outside the hotel...and the hotel dining room was not open for dinner.

Samur, however is not the hotel's fault. For the money it was a good value

Apalling service for Hotels.com customers!

One of the worst reception I got from the staff at the desk. I could not get a room with river view as they were more expensive and as I had booked through Hotels.com I QUOTE \"I probably did not want to pay more\" !! that set the level of service for that place... The room was tiny. Wi-fi did not work in the room you have to pay a surcharge. Hotel parking spaces are restricted and they charge extra if you want to park in the underground car park.

It is our second visit now.

The hotel was ok but there are areas that could be improved,I am surprised that the resturant is closed in the evenings especially as the view outside is fantastic.
The hotel is not exactly generous on toileteries, we stayed for 3 nights,after the first night we just had a small sachet of shampoo and shower gel, for what we paid we should of had better.
The breakfast was good with a good selection to chose from,14 euros though, but if you are hungry its well worth it.
As several guests have mentioned if you want the view of the river and Chateau,it is worth paying the extra.

La dame a la réception nous a très mal reçus !
Nous sommes arrivés à vélos et elle a été désagréable des le début en disant de nous pousser avec les vélos. Ensuite on a apporté nous saccoches et elles a été très désagréable en nous disant de les déplacer car ça la gênait, mais sur un ton à à limite de la politesse,
Dehors les paysan avaient pergué dans les champs du coups ça sentait fort le fumier.
Elle nous a tout de suite que c’était infecté et nous a ordonné de regarder sous nos chaussures pour voir si elles étaient bien propre et elles étaient toutes parfaitement propre.
Vraiment un accueil directif, sévère et non chaleureux. Elle n’était pas du accueillante et nous agressé.
À mon avis elle n’était pas à sa place !!
