This country hotel is situated on the picturesque banks of the Loire River, close to the centre of Saumur. Chateau de Saumur is 300 m from the hotel and Royal Abbaye of Fontevraud is only 15 km away.

The establishment is set in an old building which has been fully restructured and offers 45 comfortably furnished guestrooms. All of the rooms feature a satellite TV and overlook the beautiful river.

Five of these rooms still have their original décor from various periods of French history. In order to reach the restaurant's two dining halls, guests have to pass through an ancient vaulted wine cellar.

Superb renovation which has created a lovely hotel. Spacious rooms ,comfortable beds, nice lounge and bar area. Good breakfast - shame that we couldn’t experience the dining room despite having asked 2 months before our arrival for a table to be booked on our first night ! (We were told it was fully booked for both nights of our stay). Helpful staff but as the restaurant is independent of the hotel they could do nothing re the dinner booking despite e mail evidence of our request. We were concerned that there was no shower mat as the shower cubicle floor was very slippery . We would happily stay again - if only to experience dinner !!!!

Wherever we stay, the quality of the welcome and of the service we receive is the single most important thing. And here it was wonderful. From checking in to checking out staff couldn’t do enough - friendly, helpful, informative. The hotel itself is a beautiful building based around a lovely garden where we at each morning. We arrived with a big dog who was clearly as welcome as us (one of the managers brings his dog to work). The room was clean and spacious, the bed comfortable and reasonably large and - importantly given the weather and unusually for so many hotels - the air conditioning was first rate. The pool is small but more than enough to cool off before sitting in the shade with a beer. The hotel is on the outskirts of Saumur, but only 5 minutes walk to the centre. Saumur itself is lovely - small enough to be accessible, large enough to feel lively. Lots of history in the town and nearby (Angers, Chinon, Blois). All in all we had a wonderful stay.

The rooms were good and staff great but please don’t pass yourself off as what you are definitely not? Spa? I don’t think so.

What sold me originally was the picture of the pool and hottub.we thought how nice to soak at the end of a 60 km Loire valley ride……not exactly. Oh the 15 foot pool is available if you pull the cover back but the hottub is an upcharge of 14.5 euro (23 Canadian) to sit in for 30 min? You gotta be kidding? And it’s one of those 1980-90s plastic small tubs that fits about 2 people. The steam room is similar and you get 20 min. Sad guys really sad.

If you Lose this embarrassment I would give you a decent review. Can’t understand why you would pull this low budget salesmanship on your clients. You’re catering to a huge population of bike tourism. It should be a feature and not a con.

Just say what you are. A nice hotel with good rooms and a courtyard with bike storage that has a wading pool and a hottub you can’t use. Or change the model.

You do have to pay for parking on site which it doesn’t say on line but there is plenty of free parking in the area. Breakfast is not included but well worth the price

Perfect for an overnight en route across country.

While this is an old building, it’s very well looked after. Excellent condition, excellent room. We had an attic room which meant no view except to the sky, but also meant plenty of space.

Very dog-friendly (snacks and bowl of water in the room on arrival). Beautiful location on the riverside.

On the negative side, breakfast is expensive for what it is (we just went to the town centre and spent half the amount).

I absolutely loved this hotel . From the moment we checked in with the friendliest of welcomes the staff were fantastic. We parked opposite the hotel . The room was gorgeous with a view overlooking the loire. It was a superior double and was simply fantastic for the price we paid. A short stroll along the river front takes you to bars and retaurants. I would not hesitate to stay here again. . The bar prices were very reasonable too. We will definately come here again

This is a lovely hotel. It is right on the Loire and very central. Staff are friendly and helpful. The room is impeccably clean, with a comfortable bed. It is completely quiet at night with brilliant curtains that keep the light out. Breakfast is delicious and great value. We found parking to be fairly easy and we found a spot opposite the hotel. Saumur is a beautiful city and we had a fantastic visit. I highly recommend Hôtel Anne d'Anjou.

We stayed over on our way down to Biscarosse. The hotel is beautiful, wonderful friendly staff and very nice rooms like a home from home. The pool was lovely after a morning exploring the castle and local squares etc. I would absolutely recommend.

The swimming pool was TINY, pictures are deceptive. it was overrun with children the entire time we stayed, we didn’t find a single time to use it where we could even get in and out of the water with ease around the family that had taken over the area. Their swimming items were strewn along the edge of the pool area drying - towels, swimsuits, dressing gowns - everything. So it wasn’t picturesque it was a families washing line.
The carpet in the room is the type that should be used on heavy traffic hotel corridors and airport lounges. It felt horrid underfoot, was made from plastic and was not nice to get out of bed on to. There was nothing luxurious or nice about it. It felt cheap. The curtains in our room had holes in all over. The cleaning products used within the hotel didn’t seem eco friendly. The bathroom products weren’t refilled, the coffee machine used single use pods that go to landfill. Sachets of all things to accompany it. The restaurant wasn’t equipped, nor would it accommodate vegetarian diners nevermind vegan diet. In this day and age this should be basic provisioning. Having ran chalets in France for ten years, this is easily doable and should be accommodated. Local supermarkets contain plenty of options to offer an vegan breakfast so I have no idea why this is so difficult or why cheese containing rennet as a vegetarian option is suggested. We arrived on a very hot day +32 to check in, and we had to stand waiting a long time while given dining suggestions.

The property was lovely and clean and tidy, with lovely staff (with good English). Breakfast was good.
We were expecting to be able to park in their car park, however it only had space for about 12 cars and it was full when we arrived (and they charge). We managed to park quite easily in the nearby carpark (which was free).
There was no restaurant for an evening meal and most of the towns restaurants are closed on a Sunday and Monday (which we had no idea). The hotel staff recommended two, one, which was fully booked and the other that required a drive (or hotel taxi) to, but we'd been driving most of the day. We walked into town and found somewhere to eat, which was lovely.
We did the town train to see the sights which was lovely, but feel that one day here was enough for us.

Straight out of a Fairytale!

My trip to Saumur was nothing like what I expected in the best way! It was straight out of a fairytale. Hotel Anne d’Anjou was clean and quaint with an excellent staff. I got in too late to really see it’s beauty until the morning. I added breakfast with my staty which I would 100% recommend. The breakfast bar was simple and delicious with a ton of options. I stayed for a while eating slowly and really getting the best bang for my buck. After that I went into the garden to write some postcards to family and found myself met with the most fairytale-esque scenery. I mean the birds were chirping the sun was peeping out from behind this gorgeous tree and on top of everything was the castle. What an incredible stay I had! Thank you Thank you Thank you!

Comfortable and very well located

Very well located for exploring the town, with a Chateau looming on the cliff above. Large comfortable room. Easy free parking on the road and secure parking inside the gardens. Excellent English spoken by staff. Great restaurant just behind the hotel and just a few minutes walk to markets and shopping.

A very warm welcome.

This is a beautifully run hotel,clean,tidy,super staff and a wonderful breakfast.The pool is well managed and the grounds are kept well and very pleasant to sit in with a book and a chilled glass of the local wine.I would definitely return.

An overall enjoyable stay

Stayed in lovely room overlooking the Loire . The hotel faces a busy road so quiet sleepers may be better off going for room facing the chateau. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby but make sure to book as they are booked up in advance. Onsite parking was unavailable as we were not advised it was very limited for the number of rooms but found free parking in front of hotel.

One night stay en route from the Lot to Ouistreham

All three receptionists we dealt with at different times were friendly and helpful and this set the tone for our stay.
Our room was on the top floor with a skylight rather than a window with a view but otherwise was good in all respects...comfort, cleanliness, decent shower/bath room, two seater sofa so we BOTH had comfortable seating, good lighting to read, sufficient hanging space etc.
Off street parking was a plus given a car full of the rest of our possessions.
Excellent breakfast (even the bacon was good which is most unusual for France) with a wide choice from croissants up.
It's a nice old building and overall just that bit more civilised than the standard modern hotel with more improvements promised this winter following a change of ownership in January 19.
There is a restaurant under separate ownership but well patronised on the Saturday evening we stayed there. Also a hotel bar and small attractive garden where people were enjoying an early evening drink.
Access to the town and the dramatic chateau is easy on foot and the River Loire is just the other side of the road.
We would be more than happy to return and to stay a little longer next time.

Go elsewhere for breakfast

Lovely hotel close to centre, nice rooms and staff. The only let down was the breakfast, it was the most expensive we came across so expected great things.... Stale bread and croissants were a huge disappointment.

Great stay! The building is historic and majestic. Staying in this hotel is living history! Great neighborhood. Close enough to walk to shops and restaurants. Not to be missed. Our room was big and comfortable and filled with natural light.

Great stay in Saumur!

Anne d'Anjou is a great little hotel with history and character. I loved looking out over the Rhone from my window. Sorry I could only stay one night!

Misleading photos and bad value for money

The one positive about the hotel was the view of the castle. That was impeccable.
However the rest of the experience was a bitter disappointment. Obviously not all the rooms are quite like the photo but in this case the actual room was so far removed from the delightful romantic image on the site that I feel it was misleading advertising at best. Our room was a tired 70s space with flimsy doors, no power sockets and a bed with a rubberized undersheet. It would have been acceptable had we paid half of what we did, but for the price it was unacceptable. For the hotel on top of the outrageous price to then want 12 euros for parking and then to charge who-knows-what for breakfast added insult to injury.
You can stay here but don't think you're getting a lovely romantic room in an historical setting.
