The property is in a great location on the beach but as a 5*L hotel it was let down in several areas. Restaurant and bar staff were efficient but not very engaging. Hotel let down by details such as we had to ask repeatedly for tea and coffee to be supplied to the room. Meals and drinks were far too expensive and we had to eat out every night due to the cost and lack of real choice in the menu. On the positive side the pool area and beach were excellent as was the hotel shuttle to Venice. Overall the hotel lets itself down in the details which make all the difference to a holiday and it could be so much better.

What an incredible service! Andrea, the concierge, was amazing in helping us with transportation in Venice. The hotel-provided transport was easy to access, and even the external transport we had booked was double-checked and confirmed for us. Hats off to Andrea!
And what can I say about this hotel? The service is outstanding, the staff are so warm and welcoming. It’s phenomenal to enjoy both sides of the island – the sea on one side and Venice on the other. We truly appreciated being able to relax and soak up the sun.

It took roughly over an hour for them to find our reservation in their system. We requested an ocean view room and they gave us a garden view room and argued saying it was ocean view. I had to request another room … mind you this argument with them was an hour waiting around for our booking confirmation. Check in was overall terrible.. you’d expect more from a 5* hotel and at the price we paid.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Excelsior. This was our first time in Venice and the first stay of our honeymoon and it was a great experience! We enjoyed using the provided boat taxi to and from Venice, along with the private beach access and dining options at the hotel. Breakfast in the morning was also great. We would recommend this stay for a trip to Venice!

This property although very grand and lovely in the common areas, our room was extremely dated. The carpets were covered in stains, bathroom tiles were cracked, plaster work in bathrooms looked very old. Some of the PowerPoints didn’t work.

There were minimal power points making it hard to charge multiple devices.

Room was large. Buffet breakfast had great options. Staff were friendly.

However food, drinks and services offered by the hotel such as laundry and transfers were extremely expensive.

It was nice to be staying on a quieter island as opposed to the main island of Venice, as it was extremely crowded and would have been horrible to wheel a suitcase through.

The free boat taking you to the main island of Venice and back was lovely and so convenient.

I would not say the stay was worth the average $700 AUD per night we paid. However the cheaper options in Venice also looked extremely dated and cramped so probably wouldn’t have been any better.

A note that Taxi’s on the island would only take cash which was quite frustrating as I was forced to walk to a bank to get cash out which charged €4 just to get cash out. Also the taxi driver did not mention this until after we arrived at our destination.

We found a few nice meal options within a 20 minute walk of the hotel which was a better option than the very expensive hotel options.

Also, a quick note that we ended up using the Aliguana Ferry to get from the airport to Lido and then a taxi from the port to the hotel.

A proper 5 star Italian hotel

The exterior of the hotel majestic and beautiful.
The interior of the hotel, a little tired and the design and furniture selections do not enhance the beauty of the hotel and the surroundings.
The shuttle boat of the hotel was a big highlight as we went back and forth to Venice within 15 minutes and in a very romantic and cinematic style.
The staff were very courteous and very helpful.
We dined at the hotel restaurant and the food was beautifully presented and tasty.

The valet parking was a bit confusing as the front doors go right out to the main road there is no \"lobby parking\" you just pull off to the side and wait for the valet. They were dropping off a car as we finished getting our luggage out so it was a bit confusing but, the staff were quick and efficient. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the water shuttle to and from Venice was a great perk (this is not a luggage service you must bring your luggage by the water bus station or the vehicle ferry as vehicles are allowed on Lido). Breakfast was yummy. The room was warm which i understand it is common not to have A/C on yet this time of year, but the balcony had a key lock on it so we were only able to open it a crack to get any air in. The coffee for the coffee machines was amazing. Room other than the air was comfortable. Staff brought our car around and loaded it without us even having to ask. They also assisted us the day we arrived in getting a return ferry for when we left. There could be some updates made but it was an excellent placw to stay amd staff was amazing.

A beautiful classic property with a huge pool, great beach with cabanas on a sandy beach and calm warm waters of the gulf of Venice. Wonderful courteous staff in all areas with a great buffet breakfast included with your stay. However I found the food service poor with high prices and sub standard service. Food choices were not great and much too pricey for the quality of food and amounts of food served.
The boat service from 9am till 1130 pm with boats running every half hour to and from Venice proper was the greatest feature. You could go into Venice at any time of the day and return by 1130 pm. Shop,eat at a multiple variety of places at a multiple variety of prices at your convenience.
Truly a great hotel and a great vacation!

I had booked a sea view suite as a treat. £500 per night.
We were greeted at the desk in a very off-hand manner and shown to the lift and handed our keys.
We found our room, but access to the balcony was locked. Apparently to access this, we had to go back downstairs, sign a waiver accepting carte blanche liability and go back up with a key!
The room itself was tired with carpet stains and in need of renovation. The shower (over the bath) needed de-limescaling to work properly and the plug was slow to drain.
A coffee machine was provided with 4 coffee pods for our entire stay. More were available at an extortionate price! The minibar had various bottles of water and soda which would be replenished again only at a price.
The swimming pool was good and beds comfortable but any refreshments were eye-wateringly expensive (twice any other bar). Consequently we went out for refreshments and meals. However, the hotel is not in a great location for bars or restaurants.
Luckily, we found BAGNO MARCONI a little further up the beach. Amazing.

The property is beautiful, but the rooms are outdated.
The swimming pool is only open until 7pm (and you have to leave the pool at 7pm, you can’t even stay at your own risk) and the pool bar closes at 6pm.
The price of a simple drink is 25 euros!!!
The breakfast staff and the beach office staff were very friendly, however the concierge (the older gentleman) and some of the front desk staff are very stocked up.
Breakfast is complementary, and it is delicious. The ferry takes you from the hotel to st. Mark’s square and back, however, you can’t even take a carry on with you on that ferry.
Overall, it was a nice experience, however, for the price, next time I will look for a different hotel.

We will probably try a different hotel next time although the Excelsior is ideally located for a beach holiday with transfers to the huddle and bustle of Venice.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful and the service is impeccable. I only stayed 2 nights and really wish I could stay a whole week. It's a beautiful quaint haven away from the hustle and bustle of Venice, and the complimentary boat shuttle service to and from Venice was so convenient and perfect. It felt like I had my own personal water taxi at all times. The pool is also just as amazing. The poolside bar service is and the pool itself is huge overlooking the beach. Just another beautiful spot at the hotel to wind down for a couple hours after a day in Venice and before dinner. The complimentary breakfast was also top notch - they will make you whatever type of coffee you'd like and the pastries, fruit, cheeses, mimosas, yogurts, hot food was plentiful and really delicious - perfect way to start the day. The bar/restaurant at night had the best cocktails I've had in awhile. Shout out to Wilmore who had tremendous drink making skills and was just a pleasure. My room was also beautiful - vintage and charming, with Venetian glass adornments everywhere. The hotel is truly magnificent. Should be a 5 star hotel. Highly recommend

I have been fortunate enough to work a few events at this hotel.... The service is of the most impeccable caliber! The Concierge Michele' was very helpful in getting us situated and giving us directions how to obtain the city pass!!! Please note...The transportauon back and fortn from Lido is suoer convenient runsaboout every half an hour or so!! It was everything I expect of a Five Star hoel!!! I can't wait to bring my daughter here for the fipm festival!

For example no water when you sit by the pool , no water in the room & if you stay 4 nights or 2 nights you get the same coffee allowance and if you need more they will not replenish for free but charge €15 a day.

This our third visit to Excelsior, it is a lovely hotel, with friendly helpful staff, the boat ride into Venice is a real plus. Breakfast is exceptional, nice swimming pool.

It is an old hotel which is becoming tired, hot water a bit unreliable, room service could have been better and there is shortage of sockets and no USB points. I am aware it is now part of the Iconic group and hopefully some investment deliver a better proposition.

We still love the hotel and will go back next year

If you will be staying in Venice for a while, I recommend that you split your hotel stays and try a couple of days on Lido. The beach and pool is wonderful and the Hotel does run a shuttle to San Marco and to Murano if you'd like to go back into Venice proper. Lovely large rooms and bath. Meals are pricy, so plan accordingly.

This is an amazing hotel it was like staying in a fairy tale! We went to celebrate my daughter’s graduation and this hotel is simply a dream, so charming and unique. The staff and service is definitely 5 stars. The ability to go in Venice where ever you want and transported by a beautiful Italian wooden boat with the most amazing scenery is simply world class. We loved relaxing by the pool after a full day of exploring Venice and trying all the unique pool cocktails. Beautiful resort with old world charm, service and elegance that you don’t find these days. Do yourself a favor and book the castle by the sea and you will thank me later. Loved ever minute of our stay and we hope to return one day soon.

I would absolutely stay at this property again my primary complaint with that my room did not have a coffee maker espresso maker anyway for me to make my own coffee so we only had access to coffee at the breakfast downstairs when I requested an espresso machine they said my room did not qualify because I was on the third floor room 345 not expensive rooms I can’t understand why simple request for a coffee machine was refused. Also $35 for an app. Spritz is crazy so I was not ever enjoying my favorite cocktail at this lovely resort. Coffee and an apple roll are pretty much a daily enjoyment when I’m on vacation so these two things really do matter to me and will cause me to look at other locations, but I did really enjoy this facility other than these two conditions

Fabulous location excellent public spaces delicious breakfast but all the rooms old fashioned and bathrooms urgently require refit. . Bathrooms with showers have dangerously slippery shower floor surface with no side bars. This hotel could be paradise with much thought and a modest maintenance budge. Good luck!!!

This is a beautiful property and you will be comfortable during your stay. However, if you are hoping for a 'taste of Italy' you won't get it. It feels like a cookie-cutter resort that could be anywhere in the world. If you are already familiar with the Venice area and are looking for a beach getaway, it is perfect. However, it is removed from Venice and there isn't much to do nearby. There is a complimentary water taxi service to San Marco which is convenient, but you are not allowed to take luggage on the water taxi.

Best hotel on the Lido

Lovely classic period hotel and the best place to stay on the Lido. Great swimming pool, restaurants and pool service. Right on the beach too.
Rooms are classic and comfortable, the public areas cool and stylish.
And, with the free boat transfer every 30 mins, you can be in the Piazza San Marco for lunch, dinner or shopping, any time you like.
I’ll certainly be coming back again.

everything was good except the shuttle service. the consierge failed to mention that it fits only 12 people! and the shuttle runs every 30 min. So usually it was completely full even if we arrived 10 min before departure, the water taxi to Venice costs 80-100 euro depending on the time of the day so you are basically stuck or ripped off! take that in to consideration when booking this hotel.

It’s expensive to eat and drink there but only to be expected as it is a five star hotel and worth every penny to have your own boat to take you to and from Venice from a beautiful canal right from the hotel. Would go there again we loved it.

Over priced

This hotel is way too over priced for what they offer. The building is awesome but a good refresh is needed and therefore it’s not worth the price they sell the room. You can expect to pay for every single thing you might need. For a seaside hotel you cannot have a sunbed on the beach for free, they request to pay for a cabana on the beach for a ridiculous price. The price of the drinks are so expensive!!
Being used to 5* hotels worldwide, we didn’t feel like one. Pretty sure it was amazing years ago but it really needs a good refresh and the service needs to be improved.
+ the concierge are great!

Amazing location - can’t fault the staff or level of service. Boats into Venice from hotel are excellent.

My only criticism would be why do the drinks and food during the day have to be changed at such a overpriced rate - not many people eating and drinking during the day suggest a lower rate would encourage people to eat and drink. Appreciate that it’s a 5 star hotel but it’s just day light robbery!

One of the nicest hotels we've stayed at. You can tell this is where \"the celebrities stay\" when in the area. Very classy, great pool, comfy beds, etc. But....it IS pricey. Which is kind of what you expect at a place like this, I understand that, but we ended up going out to some great restaurants for dinner instead of staying for dinner at the hotel. Pool bar prices are also very high. So just be aware of that. You certainly don't got a place like this to SAVE money, but the food/drink prices were over the top, even vs already-pricey Venice. Chairs by the pool are free, and you can get free towels to sit on the beach, but beach chairs/cabanas are pricey too. So, to future travellers, I'd say yes, I'd stay there again, but be prepared for the extras or plan on other arrangements.

Lovely historic hotel could use a few updates

This is a gorgeous historic hotel 100% worth staying at. Front desk not the warmest and they should really get rid of the wall hair dryers straight from the 70s. At the Savoia in Trieste they have GHD hair dryers in each room and it’s a four star hotel.

Opulent and decadent property! Amazing and friendly staff. Very attentive. The location just can't be beaten. It is nearby Venice but in the much quieter and still beautiful Lido. The hotel offers free boat shuttles to Venice. The food was amazing. It is right on a beautiful beach and the pool is outstanding. I would definitely highly recommend this property and be happy to return anytime! Gracie!

Wonderful historic building on the Lido, with easy access to beach. We arrived by vaparetto (water bus) and walking, but the hotel is really designed so that one arrives by little boat direct to the back of the hotel.

The upstairs (indoor dining) is stunning architecturally, which is why it is perplexing that the lobby looks so modern. I am not sure who thought it was a good idea, but the lobby should be restored back to it's original look.

Very classy in a 1950’s jet set kind of way. Can’t fault anything except the price of eating and drinking on site. €8 for a small bottle of water is unjustifiably expensive even by grand hotel standards. One very small complementary bottle of water per day ( between 3 people! ) is a tad mean. However, this is a beautiful hotel in a stunning location with friendly staff and an efficient but wonderfully tranquil atmosphere.
