There was an issue upon check-in with a friend and her room being already taken by another person. The staff member wasn’t too kind or friendly to her when trying to fix a mistake he had made while checking her in. But it was rectified in the end. Otherwise, my stay was lovely.

We had a very difficult time finding the hotel. The man who checked us in was very nice. However we spent nearly two hours trying to return to our hotel to retrieve our bags the next day from Alamo rental which was only about a 4 block walk. GPS was not accurate directing us back to this hotel. When we arrived, the hotel staff refused to help us load our luggage, since we had no choice but to park in front. It took us a little more time considering we’re two women (I’ve recently had both hips replaced and my back has been fused, so this walk to Alamo was already stressful)! I had managed to park our rental car between motorcycles, out of the way of traffic coming down the one way street, but they still refused to help us leave quickly. A very nice gentleman actually helped me move one of the motorcycles over so I could parallel park next to the curb.
Next time I’ll stay at Il Bargelino owned by Carmel and Pino; its location is closer to the train station, costs about $50 less nightly, fabulous rooftop view, and Carmel is from Boston originally. Unfortunately they were totally booked when we planned a stopover in Florence on our way to La Piana B&B, the best place in all Tuscany near Montecatini Terme in Borgo Buggiano, an oasis in the hills above town.

Nice small hotel with great location

Nice hotel in a great location in Florence. Very close to a small grocery store as well as many cafes and restaurants. We were able to walk from here to every site we wanted to see in the city. Also less than 10
Minute walk to the train station.

Handy hotel in Florence

We received a warm welcome from Milad a
who was super helpful with recommending places to eat and things to do in Florence.All the other staff were very friendly too The location is perfect for the train station and is walkable for sightseeing. There is a handy supermarket over the road.
The rooms are basic but clean. We had everything we needed. I would stay here again

Only a short walk from the railway station. A good base for seeing Florence’s attractions. Staff friendly & helpful. Lift starts on the first floor so if your party has mobility problems, think twice. Booked 5 room’s & asked for them to be near together & they were. Had to ask for kettle for 1 of the rooms & quickly arrived.

I love the location, furnishings were a little dated but everything was very clean and bed comfortable. The rooms were larger than average but kind of a weird layout.
Breakfast was very good, it looks very small but has everything that you could want- fresh and canned fruit, scrambled and boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal toast lunch meat and cheese, orange juice and coffee. I highly recommend.

Very friendly staff, nice breakfast. Room was very small and no space to put anything into drawers or put the luggage on to unpack. Unfortunately, you have to walk up a staircase before you get to the lift. Which is only a problem when carrying luggage. The receptionist did help with one bag, but it was still an effort.

The Unicorno does not look in person like it looks in photos online. I’m shocked it had a 7.8 rating. It is not nice. I took the Expedia photos to the front desk and asked if it was the same place. We were in a quad room. He said the doubles were better. He also said they just renovated which included painting walls dark brown and new toilets. It smelled badly and was just very worn. Beds were very minimally dressed. The staff was good, the breakfast was awesome and the towels were plentiful and soft. But again, the place was not nice. Very run down.

I liked this place. It is a bit old fashioned in the 50's sense, but it was clean and comfortable. The location was great. I like being near the train station and the supermercato centrale as well as close enough to walk in Central Florence. Their breakfasts were great and the staff was wonderful and helpful.

I stay in a lot of hotels , this is the most unhelpful, with the lowest customer care or understanding.
I booked at 4 Am on the 18 th. in the morning to stay on the 18th dec. For 1 night.(Note: it was already the 18th.
The booking for some reason was reserved for the 17.
Hotels got in contact, and the hotel refused to change the booking for the 18th.
I tried to contact them direct no responce. To phone or web chat.
In the past when there has been an error its been sorted.
And yes i have made mistakes.

Air conditioning doesn’t work, no one bothered to tell us. when we finally said something they offered 1 fan for a large room that didn’t do much. If you leave window open for the only possible airflow it’s so loud you can’t sleep - assuming you could in that heat. Staff was pleasant and let you leave yours bags in the lobby while waiting for check in or after check out

The hotel is walking distance to many of the attractions and the train station. The hotel is older but the floor in my room had dark marks that looked like stains which didn’t appeal to me . The bed had one mattress that one side was about 1 1/2 inches higher than the other . The breakfast was simple but good .

Midnight room intrusion by hotel staff.

Horrible experience due to room intrusion by hotel staff at night.

The hotel physically is just OK. Its amenities are outdated but comfortable enough. On check in, the manager was personable.

However.

Just after midnight, while we were both asleep, someone burst into our room - no knock, no call, and he did not identify himself at any point - and asked if we were ok. He said there was an alarm for an emergency in our bathroom and demanded that we check it out. He would not leave when I asked, and stayed watching us in bed from the open door until I told him to close the door so I could get out of the bed with some privacy. The bathroom was, of course, empty. Once I insisted there was no emergency happening in our bathroom he left. The phone rang once a minute or two later.

There was no follow-up call, no information, just an unidentified intruder who terrified my wife and I, and then nothing. I regained my composure and clothing, and went to the lobby to figure out what had happened. The hotel had recently had a new alarm system installed which was faulty. The evening and night shift clerks - one of whom was our room intruder - said that they had an alarm from our bathroom several times and that when they had tried to call the phones were broken, and in order to avert a hotelwide evacuation he had to check our bathroom instantly. He did not knock because he did not think to.

The manager apologized & defended his employees the next day. I would not recommend.

Great location just a 15 min walk from the train station. Easy access to Dumo and all sites. Small shopette across the street and lots of outdoor dining 5 minutes away at Piazza Santa Maria Novella.

Staff was friendly and very helpful. Full breakfast in small 2nd floor cafe. Hotel rooms have been modernized and are small but very comfortable.

We would definitely stay here when we come to Florence again.

Comfortable, but very modernist decor

Our stay was comfortable, but the hotel and the room itself have a strange vibe about them. Very modern-art, with drawers and doors sticking out at funny angles. The feel of the place is *NOT* consistent with Italy in general, where ancient materials and techniques are used to construct functional modern spaces. This place seems to reject the whole ancient thing entirely.

Nice hotel close to all the places you might want to visit in Florence and a short walk to the train station. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful in arrival. My only gripes were the stairs and having to carry Mu luggage up them, and that my room essentially opened out into the breakfast room which sort of makes you feel odd when leaving at 8.00 with luggage through said while several others are eating breakfast.

All aspects of the hotel staff were excellent. The beds were really comfortable and clean and the towels were changed each day. The room was adequate, room could do with refurbishment.

The shower was dreadful switching from boiling hot water to cold all by itself. Definitely needs replacing urgently. The hair dryer was unable to dry our hair, it was powerless. Also needs replacing. The air conditioning unit in the room did not work. The room was situated at the back of the hotel and the window opened onto a busy road and there was a building renovation of some sort nearby, it was that noisy we couldn't bear to keep the window open. Lastly the breakfast buffet selection was really good apart from having to obtain coffee from a machine...I can honestly say it was not fit to be called coffee, dire.

Shame really as the hotel had a great location and staff and most of the faults could be remedied. At present I would not recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel close to train, easy walk to sights

The staff was amazing: kind, helpful and cheerful.
Our room was simple but very comfortable. A little outdated, especially the bathroom but still functional and all we needed.
We were grateful it was only a few minutes walk from the train since saving on taxis and time is important to us. It was easy to walk to all the sights and there are many restaurants, bars, even groceries close by.
Breakfast was good, the regular lady so kind and helpful.
Would stay here again.

What a great experience at Hotel Unicorno!

The staff were above and beyond amazing! Fidel and Edwin truly care about the hotel's guests. They both knew so much about Florence, and they offered to help us with everything we needed. The room was spacious, comfortable and the air conditioning was perfect for the summer! The breakfast was delicious too! This hotel is a great value, and in an awesome location for sightseeing, eating out, and shopping! Thanks for a great stay!

I was very happy here for 5 nights. Nice big bed and very large room (double for single use). Bath a bit messy, as the floor gets very wet when you shower. Helpful staff. Elevator starts at mezzanine, but they're happy to help with bags, and the breakfast was decent. Walk out the door and you're steps from the Church of Santa Maria Novello and scores of decent restaurants. Five minutes walk to via Tornabuoni and the Strozzi Palace. Would happily stay again.

Back street find.

By UK standards this would be a little on the basic side. However, for an inner city hotel in Florence where existing buildings have been turned into hotels, it was clean, comfortable and very convenient for all attractions. 10 min walk either way and you could see most of the sights. The staff were great and although no tea/coffee in rooms would make up a complimentary flask for the room. Free wifi throughout. Excellent value and would stay again.

I picked this hotel due to its proximity to the rail station. I travel alone so I opted for a single room. Big mistake! The Unicorn is a nice hotel between 2 & 3 stars; good friendly staff but avoid room 103 too much street / traffic noise to have window open!!

The room was a good size but the bathroom had no venting so it was a little moldy. Also the shower head would always swivel to the sides so water would get all over the bathroom. Beds were okay, pretty firm. The location of the hotel was great since it was close to the train station, but close enough to everything you can walk to. Overall a pretty good hotel, bathroom was disappointing.

Our second stay during our trip to Florence and Tuscany. This time we got a very quiet room on the second floor. The staff is very professional and helpful. Room was dated, but clean and practical.
We had a good night's sleep before getting an early taxi to the airport.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Got some great suggestions for places to see and places to go. Got a great breakfast every morning. The room was clean and fairly spacious. The only concern was the noise from traffic outside and people yelling until around 4in the morning. I would ask for a room away from the street next time.

Good location but slightly disappointing otherwise

There is no doubt that the hotel has a great location but otherwise it was not an enjoyable place.
The blanket in the room didn't have a casing - just a sheet that moved over night and then you end up sleeping with a blanket without a cover. The water pressure in the shower was really bad and it was really hard to get a decent water temperature as you shower. As far as I know it is not mentioned anywhere before booking or in the hotel description but they insist you leave your room key at the front desk every time you get out of the hotel. I know that other hotels in Europe do this too but I personally don't like it, plus the safe in the room didn't work.

We had a lovely stay in Florence (2 weeks) at the Hotel Unicorno. It was centrally located, near the train station, within walking distance of almost everything in the city. We used local bus transportation (the stop was just steps from our door) for some of the longer excursions (Fiesole in the hills was a beautiful variation). The staff was ever-so friendly, helped with recommendations for restaurants and GELATO! I would recommend it for those on an unpretentious trip and those on a budget. We were hardly in the room at all. At night, because our room was near the back, on the 3rd floor, it was quiet. Breakfast each morning was sufficient: scrambled eggs, \"hotdogs/meat\", toast, cereals, ham/cheese, breads, jams, COFFEE MACHINE with many choices, yogurts, fresh fruit as well as canned fruit to add to cereal or yogurt. The room had a nice shower (no bath), with fresh lines each day if asked for; we went 2 days on the same towels...Yes, we would recommend this hotel for the budget-minded folks.

Ideal location with pleasing staff

The room was of a decent size and the staff made our stay memorable.
Location was ideal and the bed, comfortable. The downsides was the odd shower that spread water all over the bathroom floor. There were some odd smells around the hotel that made the place less than awesome.
Honestly the downsides were few, but would be noticed by most. All in all, it was a good time at a good hotel.
Minor inconveniences aside, I'd recommend it to a friend.

Very nice hotel in great location

Room. Was largest one we've eve had in Italy- a nice surprise. Large windows that opened for fresh air, very welcoming front desk staff, comfortable beds, roomy closet, modern bathroom with tub.
