The property was adequate for a short stay. The rooms were dated but clean. We stayed in a handicapped-accessible room, and unfortunately, the bathroom door was too wide for the frame and wouldn’t close properly. There was a noticeable smoky smell throughout the facilities, and the breakfast area was quite small. I also wasn’t aware that the first-floor rooms had exterior access, which may be important for some guests to know.

On a positive note, the front desk associate was extremely kind and welcoming, even at a late hour when we checked in, which made for a great first impression. The coffee area in the lobby was also a nice touch, with a good selection of creamers and syrups available at all hours. Additionally, the floors and walls were well-insulated, so noise from neighboring rooms wasn’t an issue.

Overall, it’s a decent option for a one-night stay, but I wouldn’t recommend it for longer visits.

Parking was easy and getting to my room was easy enough. The elevator and hallway smelled pretty funny. But, my room was clean enough and the bed was very comfortable. It was quiet and I got a good night's rest. I'd stay again!

On the outside, the hotel looks nice, but the first room that we looked out on the first floor that we were put in was absolutely terrible. It stunk and was extremely out of date. We asked to move to a different room and got placed on the second floor, which was decent at first until we got home from our event and found ants all over the Nightstands and TV stands and desk. We had to switch rooms again for a second time and we met with no compassion when we told them that there were ants everywhere. We also asked for extra towels and we were told we had to turn in our dirty towels to get new towels because they didn’t have enough. Overall, it was a terrible experience and I will never stay at one of these hotels again.

Alarmingly unexceptable mold and filth

I am writing to formally document my extremely disappointing experience during my recent stay at the Clarion Hotel in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on [date].
Upon entering my assigned room, I immediately noticed several concerning issues:

All pillows were missing from the bed
No towels were provided in the bathroom
The toilet seat was left up, suggesting inadequate cleaning

Due to time constraints (I needed to quickly change for a graduation ceremony), I was forced to enter an unoccupied room down the hall to obtain necessary items. This should never be necessary at a reputable hotel.
The true extent of the room's deplorable condition became apparent when I returned late that evening. The bathroom was in an unacceptable state:

Visible mold and mildew on the shower ceiling
Dirt and unidentified fluid stains on multiple surfaces including:

Bathroom walls
Hairdryer
Bathtub
Various other bathroom surfaces

I documented these conditions with photos and video the following morning and reported the issues to the front desk, requesting appropriate compensation and manager contact. I was informed the manager would be unavailable until 1-3 PM, well after the 11 AM checkout time and my scheduled attendance at another graduation ceremony at noon.
Upon checkout, I was offered only a $45 refund, which is grossly inadequate given the severity of the issues encountered. A full or at minimum 50% refund would be reasonable for the substandard accommodations.

The room we were given, door did not close correctly. The front desk gave another couple that checked in right before us, the same room so they were able to just walk in using the same room key.
We all went to the front desk to straighten things out but they didn’t apologize about it. They said they were going to call maintenance about the door and that they knew about it already. We got a different room witch the bath tube did not work.

Very, very, very bad experience!!!!
Never again.

Filthy. We had three rooms for a college event. All of the rooms were smelly: fish/ dog / cigarette smell all rolled into one. I went out and bought air freshener. The bathroom had splashes of brown on the walls. Feces? Food?? Rusty sink and bathtub. The light switches had visible dirt on them. Toilet ran all night. Broken stand up lamp. There was no blanket on one bed in my room. The tables in the buffet area were dirty. There was staff lounging around on their phones in the lobby. The elevator had a dirty floor with food crumbs as well. Sketchy people smoking pot at the front door. Sketchy cars in the parking lot. Seems to be a flop house for otherwise homeless people who are living there. I just pray I did not bring bed begs home. I complained to the front desk and they offered me air freshener and gave me a blanket for my bed.
You do not want to stay here!

My family and I stayed in two different rooms for a weekend trip to the area for a local college graduation. The employees of the hotel were all very kind. From the front desk, to the housekeeping staff and the kitchen staff. Very helpful and welcoming. Unfortunately, the condition of our bedrooms was deplorable. Both separate rooms were so dirty. There was a used bar of soap in our shower. Trash on the floor. Hairs on beds, dirty tub, smelly rooms, pictures in the rooms had streaks of some substance on them almost like spills and have not been cleaned. We didn’t even shower the whole weekend bc we didn’t want to get in the shower. Couldn’t check out fast enough. There needs to be some sort of quality control to make sure that these rooms are up to par. The cost per night for one of the rooms because it was booked two weeks prior, was over $250 per night. It was really hard to think about the cost of $500 for two nights and such conditions. We would have asked for another room, but with two already being this dirty, what was the point and we would have gone to another hotel had their been availability, but with it being graduation weekend, we knew there were no other options.

Room needed attention. One decorative curtain was lying on the floor and a lamp didn’t work. I told the front desk about the lamp but nothing was done about it. Also there were no washcloths. When I asked we were given some. Then later while we were out someone came in and removed both the hand towels and didn’t replace them

The bed was pretty comfortable but the bed cover was stained.

Got placed at this hotel by Expedia because the first one I booked was overbooked.
We had to change rooms right away because of a bunch of hair on both beds. Second rooms bed (just one) was better but there was blood on bathroom walls and dirt everywhere.
That night there was a fight that broke out in the parking lot at 2 am with a woman beating her grown daughter. Awful experience .

The air conditioner worked poorly and I notified the staff and nothing was done about it. I woke up sweating several times due to the AC poor operation. I also found roaches running around in the bathroom one night when I woke up from sweating to use the restroom. I notified the staff and the front desk person told me that since it was cool outside, that’s why the AC operated the way it did. That makes no sense. As for the roaches, the front desk person made it seem as if I was seeing things. The property staff and management had no intentions on addressing my issues and they made that apparent. They stated they would address these issues and did nothing. Terrible property that should be rated a 1 star property that charges 3 star rates.

It was good overall; attendants were courteous and friendly. Free breakfast was good. However two things were not as pleasant: the AC was noisy and the fan was on all night. The bathroom was clean except for the toilet bowl; there was a pink ring around the water that I was able to remove with toilet tissue which means it wasn't cleaned often enough. Unsightly.

The facility itself is in need of painting & new room furnishings. Even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking building, it smelled of cigarette smoke & the smell of marajuana was heavy on the floor we stayed on. When I called down to front desk the man said he’d come up w/ air freshener instead of searching out the source. There was trash under one of the night stands & unknown stains on the duvet. Will not stay here again or recommend it to others.

The housekeeping lady is extremely rude and their whole housekeeping staff was very unprofessional. The room was filthy with dirt film all in the shower. The dressers were also filthy and dusty. They had to change my room and the only bright light was Chris working the front desk. The property management is horrible. I asked to use the guest bathroom that was locked when I first arrived and the housekeeping lady had this unbelievable attitude and she jams the key in and act like she didn’t want to be bothered. You don’t treat guests like that and if I was the manager she would be fired.

The room is decent for the price. The water in the shower is hot enough to burn your skin so be careful. It definitely needs to be adjusted. The TV did not have a remote we had to call for one. They were knocking on everyone's doors at 10 am to see who was in the room because the computer went down for a few minutes. Needs improvement.

The floor and carpet was filthy, didn’t look like it had been vacuumed in weeks. I had lost an earring and was looking for it. There was food particles, loose change, a dirty sock, a lighter, a Kleenex and other non identifiable particles all over the carpet. I did tell the front desk about this.

Room was clean and comfortable. We needed extra towels and had to ask multiple times before we finally got them and then, not until after I became insistent that we be given more towels. Vibe was very \"sketchy\" as there appeared to be families actually living in the hotel. At breakfast, kids came to the breakfast area in their pjs and a few had no shoes on. While there were adults in and out that seemed to be in the same family, these children were unsupervised and acted as if they were in their kitchens at home. We did not eat there again. I do not recommend this hotel and will not stay there again.

This hotel was filthy. Blood spots on sheets in 1st room, moved to another room that had large hole in floor from missing carpet, standing water left in bath tube, hair on the mirror, rusted faucets. Waited for manager to find another room, who didn't return. I went back to my sister's house and slept on the sofa. Hotel denied to give me refund.

The first stay was nice. Do not let them put you in room 114. Tub very dirty, fan in bathroom does not work. Heat unit is questionable. Breakfast staff more concerned about feeding themselves them making sure everything is stocked. They also lack professionalism. Front desk is very apologetic while management is not readily available.

My stay here was terrible I will never go back. The room had bugs crawling in the bed. When reported I was guven another room outside of the building alpng with the wrong dirctions to the room so I had my already ill son outside in the cold for avout 10mins in search of the other room.

I arrived at 3:20 pm on a Saturday. Check-in was suppose to be 3:00 pm however my room was not ready. The Front Desk attendant was quick to put me in another room as I needed to quickly get dress for a Class Reunion. The air conditioning in the room worked minimally at best. The rooms are dated and not kept up but are clean. I had a king bed and it was quite comfortable. The breakfast was good...the area they have it in is just way too tight! Over all I give this property 2 1/2.

Front desk staff was extremely polite and professional. The hotel was quiet not all that door slamming you hear at other hotels and no kids running around crazy yelling and screaming. Breakfast was good.
Only problem was garbage in rooms should've been checked more often and there should've been new rolls of toilet paper my room finished one roll in less than 24hrs.:(

Run away fast, do yourself a favor and find something else for just $20 bucks more couple of blocks south of the main road. My flight got delayed, called in advance to let them know. Upon arrival the front desk assistant wasn’t there, nobody was there, after almost 1h the guy shows up, he was taking a break or I can’t remember what he said, so they can’t afford two front desk people huh? The ac was old and loud, the tub old and nasty, the carpet smelled and the toilet was dirty. Bad, pretty bad.

An unlikely return

We stayed 2 nights but it was 2 too many. We asked for maintenance to handle a toilet issue and they never came. My spouse had to go back to reception and ask for a plunger.
The hairdryer was shutting down after 2 minutes.
We have stayed there in the past (4 years ago) but it has definitely lost its charm.

The first room did not have a working bathroom fan, the shower water pressure was so low it was basically unusable, the soap dish was falling off the shower wall, and there were mildew stains all around the shower. The second room did not have a working phone and the bathroom was dirty as well.

Be warned about staying here

This hotel should not be something Hotels.com markets. It’s in a bad section of town and upon arrival, at least at night time, reminds you of a place you would see on a crime drama. There were many late night transactions happening in the lot and lots of odd activity happening in and out of rooms that would lead one to wonder if it was safe to stay there. Additionally upon arrival, there were pills and other paraphernalia on the floors and the non smoking room had definitely been smoked in and complimented with a heavy masking air freshener. We opted to leave for several reasons and we feel like we had to beg to get our money back.
