The Royal Horseguards is a lovely hotel, however I feel my stay would have been better if I had a room with a view, consider I booked a deluxe family room. Also the breakfast buffet lacked a varied breakfast offering, particularly with regard to child-friendly options.”. Overall, the staff were quite responsive and friendly, which was very good.

Outstanding Hospitality!

As soon as we arrived at the Royal Horseguards Hotel we were warmly greeted by the doorman Mr. Pervez. Mr. Pervez along with the desk staff treated us like royalty.

The hotel lobby is stunning. The room was comfortable. I don't recommend the rooms with views of Thames during the spring/summer months because the foliage obscured the view. The Breakfast Buffet offerings were diverse and yummy.

The hotel location is ideal! We spent the day walking to all of the great sights and then took a quick taxi ride to a fabulous jazz club in SoHo (Ronnie Scott's). Please note--It is possible to walk to SoHo and several other neighborhoods from this delightful hotel.

We would definitely visit this lovely hotel again.

On the plus side, the bed was extremely comfortable, the breakfasts were excellent and the breakfast room was lovely. The location of the hotel was first class.

On the negative side, despite checkin being at 3.00 pm, our room was not ready when we arrived at 4.00 pm and we had to sit in the lounge area until 4.30 before receiving our keys.

After heading out, I received a WhatsApp message from the hotel about “my complaint yesterday” about the leaky air conditioning and an offer of a change of room. That complaint had obviously been made by the previous occupant of the room. I had noticed a very small amount of water on the floor but thought nothing of it. On receiving the message, I queried why I had been allocated a room which had been the subject of that complaint.

The very minor leak continued over the next two days but it was not bad enough to warrant repacking my things and moving.

This is our first time to stay at The Royal Horseguards Hotel in London. Fabulous is the word that describes everything about this hotel. The location is superb, amenities made our stay extremely comfortable, and the staff saw to every detail.

Perez was the perfect first impression for this hotel. The minute we arrived, we were treated like royalty. Everyone at the front desk and concierge were so accommodating. We received a behind the scenes history tour of this hotel. Javier showed us all the details of this historic hotel.

The items in our hotel refrigerator were complimentary and restocked every day. Our room was cleaned and bed made every day. There were heated floors in the bathroom, along with a heated towel rack.

We were walking distance to so many landmarks. The only location where we needed a cab or tube was the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.

I will say that the garden rooms are beautiful. You really do not need a view of the London Eye. We did have dinner here one night, and it was delicious. We also had afternoon tea and it was wonderful. Our future trips to London will always include this hotel. We have been spoiled and cannot stay anywhere else!!

Our room was great, the hotel is beautiful, and in a great location.

However, we had an issue with the bathroom. It stank! We had to keep the door closed so it wouldn't stink up the entire room. I contacted customer service at the text number they sent, and they gave me an email address to send my concern to. I never got a response, and no one ever fixed the issue. A housekeeper was in the room each day, and obviously, they did not alert maintenance either.

We had dinner the first night at teh restaurant and had terrible service. The server forgot our appetizers, two bowls of soup. Then, when dinner arrived, and I mentioned she forgot the soup, she returned with one and no spoon.

My husband and I stayed here twice. The first time on the 3rd floor and all was fine.. great view of the Thames and London Eye.
The second time we were on 8th floor and it was truly awful. We unpacked and went out to meet friends for the evening. We noticed a bad smell but couldn’t figure out why. On our return we went to the bar for a nightcap.
We then decided time for bed. The elevators were broken. We had to walk up 8 floors …my 72 year old husband struggled. We met another couple en route who were really frustrated and asking for help. No help to be found!
The hallways we walked around trying to find our room were informative of that smell from earlier! The ceilings were leaking from roof with rain water and the carpets were sodden. Staff had put large buckets underneath but clearly not enough. The smell was disgusting of dampness and just nasty.
Then our room….the heating would not stay on. There seemed to be an issue with thermostat and underfloor bathroom heater too. It was FREEZING. We had our coats over the cover on the bed to try to keep warm. Needless to say showering in freezing cold did not happen.Yes, we could have requested another room…but walking up and down stairs again was simply too challenging for my husband.The next day we left and went to a fabulous hotel in Leicester Square! The difference was truly amazing.
We did try to talk to staff about our stay and were told .”it’s an old hotel”. “The elevators often break down”

Third stay at this hotel, I was sorry this was not recognised by the rather abrupt check in person. Our room was very small and noisy as directly over the terrace.
However, the breakfast was wonderful and the staff in the breakfast room very very lovely too … the jury’s out on whether we will stay again.

We've always preferred staying in Westminster when we visit London but had never stayed at the Royal Horse Guards before. We found it almost by chance on this trip and are very happy that we did; it will be our first choice on future trips to London.
The hotel is ideally situated just a short walk from Trafalgar Square and right along the Thames and yet is on a quiet side street away from the noise and crowds.
The building is over one hundred years old and just exudes character and uniqueness while at the same time being impeccably maintained and very comfortable. The rooms are very comfortable and also have a lot of character. The restaurants on site are reasonably priced (for London) with excellent staff and service.
The entire staff was very good, friendly and professional and always there to help with anything we needed.
In Westminster you can't do better for location and service than this hotel. We can't wait to go back.

I liked the garden and being close to the river , but as I was in a wheel chair it was difficult to access the terrace and garden from the hotel restaurant.
There was no view from the window in fact couldn't see out or open probably for security reasons.
On the whole our stay was enjoyable the staff very helpful and kind .
The building very interesting and full of character.

A good hotel in a fantastic location. Walking distance to Covent Garden and Westminster, steps from the Embankment tube. Worth booking for the location alone.

Staff were attentive and kind. The hotel feels polished and upscale without being stuffy or dated, and the basics, air conditioning and shower, all worked as they should.

A few downsides: the elevator was slow, leading to some long waits. Walls are thin enough to hear neighbors. The standard double bed was two twin mattresses pushed together, which was genuinely uncomfortable. I’m not usually picky about beds, but this was bad. No view either unless you pay extra for a river-view room.

Would visit again, but in a different room.

Overall the stay was good. I do love this hotel and its fabulous location. But on this instance 2 out of the 3 elevators were broken so it took FOREVER to get up or down. And when I pulled out the pull out couch to sleep there were all these fly bugs in it. There was also so work being done for a leak on my floor (9) so it smelled horrible like rotten carpet and stinky water. I had been here before so I know what a wonderful hotel this normally is. Just very unfortunate

I stayed here with my collage aged son. Very old school British. Lobby bar was amazing for a nightcap for me and had a gym for him. Everyone here was very nice and helpful throughout my stay. Location is perfect for getting to all the typical London tourists sites.

I picked this hotel because it’s gorgeous and in a great location.
From the moment we arrived, the doorman greeted us, and front desk welcomed us.
We stayed in one of the smaller rooms (8th floor) they offer and it was lovely. Beautiful view.
Lots of amenities like hair dryer, mini fridge, iron/ironing board, coffee, tea, robes, slippers, glass glasses, closet with full length mirror, towel warmer, make up mirror w/light (though the light was dim and not really helpful for my old eyes).
Lobby is posh and gorgeous, offers waters, and candy on a very cute cart. Decor had nods with an equestrian flair. Even the drapery ties are leather and brass saddle stirrups.
We had drinks out back on the outdoor patio that made you feel like you were in a park, lush and green. Tables were classy and service was impeccable. I’ve worked in the service industry my whole life and every employee here was wonderful.
Our room was quiet, bed was comfy (though the pillows were a bit dense and firm) It had nice soft sheets and nice bedding.
Another nice feature was the plug in’s. They offered European, USA, and British plugs on the desk so I did t have to use plug converters for everything I had.
Breakfast in the morning was wonderful- so many choices, juices, cheeses, breads, bubbles, and all of the regular English breakfast choices.
Staff was so friendly and helpful. Every time we left or arrived we were greeted so warmly.
I would 100% stay here again

We booked a deluxe room with king bed. Just before we left we had an email offering an upgraded garden view room for £3 per night, which we took. When we arrived and checked in it was a good thing we hadn't brought our cat... the room was tiny, small bathroom. Not what we ordered (Bear in mind this was £596 for 2 nights)
Back we went downstairs to complain and to be fair they gave us a room that we had booked - literally twice the size of the \"garden room\".
Breakfast was a good buffet, although we had a long wait on Sunday morning.
It's walkable to many places around the South Bank, Covent Garden etc. but at that price....

Charming hotel in a historic building. The late Victorian building was once the headquarters of the British secret service and so has echoes of Sidney Reilly, Bruce Lockhart and Ian Fleming . It was also housed the U.S. Embassy and the Soviet Embassy (on different floors) during WWIi. Winston Churchill had an office in the Liberal Club, which shares the building with the hotel.

Aside from atmosphere, the hotel has a friendly staff who are eager to do things for the guests.

Whitehall Gardens lies in back of the hotel, giving it a pretty setting. Good views of the Embankment and the Thames from that side of the hotel.

It is an older building and has some quirks. For example, the floor takes awhile to get used to. However, it is evident that considerable money has been spent to modernize both the rooms and the public areas.

The location is great. It lies in the heart of Central London. The Houses of Parliament are a few steps in one direction and Trafalgar Square is a few steps in the other direction. Great for tourists and for those with business in political London.

The hotel has several dining venues including an outdoor terrace overlooking Whitehall Gardens. Very nice buffet breakfast.

In a word - disappointing. We've stayed here as a family in the past, in a well-lit room with windows in the old part of the hotel. Don't be fooled by the photos - our recent 'inward facing room' (as described by staff who said most rooms are like this) was in the newer part with 'windows' that were just frosted glass and didn't open - beyond which there was an ominous glow that never turned off. Front desk told us that the nice rooms could be requested but not guaranteed and are generally reserved for guests staying \"10 or 12 nights.\" Okay...
In addition, our room was badly in need of updating and poorly maintained (shower curtain was the wrong size and came off the rod when being opened/closed). I could go on...
Positives: very clean, great location, friendly porters

I was looking forward to my stay at the Royal Horseguards Hotel, thinking it would be a bit of a special hotel, perfect for a special occasion. The doormen who greeted us and the reception staff were very helpful and friendly. The reception area was spacious and welcoming, but I thought the background music was a bit too modern. There was a long wait for the lifts, one was out of action and another went straight past reception to another floor. We took the stairs as we were only on the second floor. The staircase was quite special though. The room itself was a good size with plenty of space for everything but it looked and felt quite dated with lots of scratches and marks to the furniture. The bed was comfy, but the pillows were quite lumpy. The aircon worked well and the shower was very powerful. We had a cocktail in the Green Parlour in the evening - expensive, but great service and a good range of English wines and spirits. Overall, it wasn't quite the experience I was expecting, I came away feeling a little underwhelmed. I had looked a booking it again in July for 2 nights, but at a cost of over £700, I will save my money and go somewhere else hoping to be a little more impressed.

This was my second time staying at this hotel. The last time was in 2021. To be honest, everything in our room was worn stained and falling apart in places, the phone didn’t work, the heat and air-conditioning didn’t work We put a hanger on our door to order breakfast and it was collected but didn’t arrive. When I went to check out the employee told me they had no record of me checking in…the woman beside her who had checked me in the day before told her colleague she had checked me in.

They both just shrugged and took my key cards and apologized profusely. They were very helpful. All staff were excellent, and the service was great The building and the location are lovely, but I won’t be coming back anytime soon. For the price, the rooms need some upgrading unless I got a one off b bad room. It’s too bad because our first sta at this hotel in 2021 was absolutely fantastic.

This is a regal hotel that is centrally located for the theatre district and the National Gallery. Although it is close to everything, the side street is quiet with a lovely garden behind and easy access to Embankment tube station. The staff is delightful and they recognized us whenever we walked through the lobby. Everything is spotless, including our spacious room. We never really figured the lights out, but that was a small thing compared to having 2 leather recliners and a heated bathroom floor! Breakfast was delicious and features many English specialties—even HP sauce in cute little pots to go with the bangers! This will be my go-to hotel for a theatre trip!

We loved our stay at this hotel! It is a beautiful building right in the middle of everything we wanted to see. Our rooms were very clean and nice and had everything we needed. The staff was very helpful when we checked in and held our bags until our room was ready (we got there very early in the morning) so we could go sightseeing. We ate breakfast one morning in the bar lounge area and had drinks and snacks there another night and it was very nice and great food. We did not reserve a room with a view since we knew we’d be out all day and night so our room only had a view of a brick wall which was fine for us. If you don’t want this view, I would recommend booking a room with a view which I imagine would be fabulous due to the location. Overall we highly recommend and would love to stay here again!

The staff went over and above to accommodate your every need. We even got a a private tour of the facility, which has a lot of historic value to it and was used during World War II as as British headquarters for MI5 and MI6 and used by Churchill for his headquarters. The breakfast in the restaurant was an amazing buffet.

The one thing I ask is that they carry cash t make change for guests. They are trying to be cashless, but they're on the bleeding edge.

We stayed on the Garden side of the hotel. It was a very nice room. The staff were wonderful and helpful. The room was very quiet from street noise and the view from the 4th floor was nice, overlooking the river and The Eye. There was a lot of happy but noisy young people in the early nighttime hours in the Garden, but that didn't bother us. The only major issue we had was a lack of hot water on the weekend. It might be warm for a minute and then went cold. We didn't have any problems on the week days.

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the friendliest staff and were impressed with the hotel's architecture and location. The hotel is conveniently located right near the Embankment Station, as well as very walkable to many sight seeing activities. We had the London Eye and an array of pubs, restaurants, and shopping within a short distance: the Palace was a 20-minute walk away (and a lovely walk through London's beautiful buildings and parks), Big Ben, Abbey, and Parliament were only a 10-minute walk. The hotel is beautiful, and our room was lovely. This trip was for myself and my 10-year-old, and I upgraded us to a room with a view of the river in the London Eye and have no regrets - it really added to our experience to be able to see the London city lights and the London Eye from our room. After a long day of walking and activities, we really enjoyed relaxing in our room and having access to the gym and hotel restaurants. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the London area, especially for tourist activities. I would absolutely stay here again and again.

We stayed one night at the Apartment Suite on the 9th floor, accessed by lifts (very slow and showing their age) plus a flight of stairs after the lifts. It was quite spacious and generally well furnished, although much more expensive than apartments we usually book in the Cheval chain. The view towards the London Eye was spoiled by huge air ducts which we assume is part of the Aircon system. Unfortunately, the noise from those right outside our bedroom window did disrupt our sleep, staying in until around 1am and then coming back on at 5am (my husband gave up and tried to sleep on the settee instead). There is a small kitchen which is showing its age. Lots of teabags provided but small cups (no mugs). I assume we weren't meant to wash up at the end of our stay as no washing up liquid, scourers or tea towels provided. There's a Nespresso machine with loads of pods. Staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. There was a complimentary minibar which was well stocked, a nice touch

A beautiful hotel. Our room was huge and comfortable. The pillows are very dense but honestly my neck felt great every morning. We lived the luxurious robes and huge bath sheets. Dining was delicious. Location is good. Near trafalgar and embankment. We had a problem with the bathroom plumbing that didn’t seem to concern anyone - while it wasn’t critical it was annoying this the reason for four stars vs five

This hotel is a luxury hotel if you squint hard enough. The bones are there. but there is wear and evidence of the need to constantly retrofit an old building into a modern hotel. It is not a great place for business. The cell service is spotty in the room we had, which messed up getting on work VPN. The lifts are inadequate for the size of the hotel. Breakfast was OK, not great value, but it is downtown London. The location is great. Really close to the Tube and connected that way to everything from Heathrow to all the tourist sites. It is really a great location and a cool building.

We love the Royal Horseguards Hotel. Have stayed here several times. The price point reflects its position as a full-service property in a prime location, with a restaurant, bar & tea room.

We were surprised by the worn condition of the elevators and mid-tier rooms during our March 2026 stay. More off-putting was an aggressive push to upgrade room at check-in — the hotel manager appeared in person to inform us that only two upgraded rooms remained so they “needed” the revenue & could not comp those rooms to returning guests. That kind of hard sell is at odds with the caliber of hotel this aims to be, and left us wondering whether the property is in decline.

That said, the staff is genuinely delightful. The rooms were immaculately clean, with plenty of large fluffy towels and magnifying mirror in the bathroom. The small touches throughout speak to the quality of service as well: we consistently find complimentary water & light refreshments in the refrigerator upon arrival — a simple gesture, but one that sets a welcoming tone and reflects genuine attention to the guest experience. The in room coffee/tea service has a Nespresso and milk.

The breakfast is excellent and worth adding on— the buffet is luscious, but there’s more to offer à la carte if you can secure the attention of a waitstaff person.

If your schedule allows a full English tea, or just a cream tea in the lounge: we find it a fun highlight and do recommend it.

These strengths are the reason we keep returning.

One night only in low end room. Dated and a little tired. Shower not the best. Tv no reception. Excellent staff I’m sure would have sorted the tv if I brought it to their attention but as only there for 1 night I didn’t trouble them. Good breakfast

Wish that the kitchens were open longer as it can be hard to find food after a show at night. The site was clean and staff was very friendly. The premium room offered complementary mini bar which was greatly appreciated. The room was very nice overall with just a few condition issues (I.e. chipped paint/furniture, etc) which is to be expected in my opinion. Great location as well within easy walking distance of many of the main attractions.

The hotel has some aging but we were eyond happy with our room, a King with a View. We had a view of the park and London Eye. The staff was amazing. Willing to do unnecessary things so that we ffidnt have to be inconvenienced. There was a young gentlemen, dont remember his name but he has braids, that literally carried 4 bags down the stairs for us because the elevator was taking too long. We insisted he didnt need to and he was insistent that he would.
