However, despite being non smoking out hotel room frequently smelled like cigarette smoke as it came through the ventilation. There was also no bottom sheet on the bed, and the top sheet applied as a bottom sheet would not stay on the bed. No hand towels were provided.

Room cleaning service did not change my bedsheets and pillow cases for each of the 4 nights I stayed there. The cleaners came to clean in the unusual hours in noons while I was having my nap. The furnishings like wardrobe, cabinets and bathroom facilities are old and drab looking.

Lousy property. They could not find my reservation when we checked in at 9pm exhausted from our journey.
After 30 mins wait, they gave us room keys and later found that only one elevator works. It takes a minimum of another 30 mins to be able to board the elevator. Same with coming down. Rooms are in need of desperate renovation. Bathroom fittings Rusty and dirty. Never again to this Place !!!

hotel is extremely old and dated. the fabrics and upholstery is worn and the bathroom is in fairly poor shape.... we had to cover the chairs with a towel as we frankly had no confidence in the cleanliness. beds were not confortable at best. hotel surroundings were really nice with plenty of stuff to eat. i however don't think i would consider staying in this hotel again

Strongly not recommended. The furnitures and fittings in the room which I am staying are very old. The laminated flooring is acceptable. There is no hair dryer provided, you need to ask for it. The so called 4 stars are overrated. To me, I give a rating of less than 2 stars.

Pros: Good location close to shopping malls and hawker centres, quite a lovely view from the room and excellent water pressure for showers.

Cons: Housekeeping standards were sorely lacking - the sheets were not changed, and the floors were not vacuumed or mopped. Came back after a day out to still find hair and food crumbs on the floor, disappointing!

I stayed here last July. In room dining choices and quality was much better. They changed the hotel name and probably the chef too?

Tv didn’t work. Called once. Waited. 20mins. Nothing. Called again. Finally someone came after 10 minutes.

I called to order in room dining. The staff said what I tried to order was on their old menu. I requested for a updated menu. Waited. Starving. No one came. Called again. Someone finally brought me a set menu promotion paper. I gave up waiting and just ordered vegetarian fried flat rice noodles. I emphasized flat noodles twice. Came out to be the yellow noodles which I have discomfort with gluten. Still ate because I was almost dead by hunger.

Has medium WiFi reception at a few spots in the living room. Quite slow compare to Hong Kong. No reception in bedroom.

Room was comfortable. Nice view. I had a good rest.

Last year didn’t have free mobile phone. I’m impressed with this this year. Convenient.

Hotel is dated with everything old. Room was clean and of good size for the family though. The gym does not even have a thread mill machine. Within walking distance to Gurney Plaza area which is good. Surrounding of Berjaya hotel also dated. Should be ok for the budget conscious.

I stayed at Berjaya Penang Hotel to make the logistics easy for my parent who had a treatment in Penang Adventist Hospital, which is just across the Hotel. The hotel has a good location, very near within walking distance to popular shopping mall Gurney Plaza. The hotel is a classic one; albeit it looks old, it is not bad and has the basic amenities as a proper hotel. People mainly stay at this hotel to accompany family members who are going to the Adventist Hospital.
Overall, it is a nice stay there but I chose it for functionality rather than for leisure.

Great stay. Nice 4 star hotel. Was welcomed with drinks at the cafe area, then ushered to the room - Junior Suite which is very very spacious and totally worth it for family to stay. Great customer service too! I book the hotel few hours before check in (3pm) and they already prepared the room during the check in at 330pm. Great service!

Good location for specific purpises only

I use this hotel because of its specific location .
The front entrance to the hotel is very inconvenient bec of the flight of stairs from the road level. There are no lifts nor escalators to the hotel lobby. It is difficult when guests have parcels and luggage . Hard for older people to climb the stairs
It I also does not have seats in the front for guests to wait for pick-ups. It is also hot to have to wait there.

We were surprised when we arrived at the hotel. Hotel looked old and needed major refurbishment. Room was decent and comfortable enough for a couple of nights stay. Location was good since hotel is in the heart of city centre. Basement parking needs more lights and refurbishment too.

The room wasn't ready when we arrived, but it was fine because we dropped our luggage off and went for a good lunch at Gurney Plaza (walking distance). The hotel is also near local hawker places where we found very yummy, affordable hawker fare. The rooms itself were clean, though the furniture was.. Old, I guess. It is an old place so that is to be expected. Hotel needs an overhaul in the near future. I paid about 200RM a night for the junior suite, which was quite spacious. It's alright for the price. Staff are friendly and professional.

Good enough for the rate you pay.

The location across the Adventist Penang hospital is quite convenient. What bothered us is the sound of running water very early in the morning when the people in the adjoining room is taking a bath. Probably the water pressure is > 3 bars. Also the AC is very cold although it is set at 30 deg.C
The beds need to be replaced due to age.

Love the location - short walk to many local eateries, and 2 min uber ride to Gurney plaza for RM 3!

Room was big and had strong wifi, love the bathtub for me to soak in after a hot day. Bed was comfy and had ample plugs besides. I had a great view from my room.

Contended and will definitely book this hotel for my next trip

I stayed with my mom who had knee pain( that's why we saw doctors in Adventist Hospital) and hotel don't have acces for wheelchair so we had to walked to the parking area at the basement to got lift acces. The rooms is big but for junior suite should have bigger size of bed instead only 120 cm twin beds

The location is prime, especially if you need to go to the adventist hospital. Gurney plaza about 5 mnts by taxi. The junior suite room is big enough and has amazing view. It has king size bed and convinience bed, pillow, and linen. The room has good lighting as well as sofa and temperature control. One thing that disturbed us was the sound of water when other rooms use their shower. But compare to the comfy and cleaness of our room, it's still okay for us. We'll recommend this hotel to our friends.

This hotel is very convenient for people who need to go to Adventist Hospital. It is just across the street. Behind the mall there is KFC and some local hawkers. There are 2 mini market near hotel. It takes stairs to come to hotel lobby. There is an elevator that located in the parking area that many people do not know.

Hotel Rooms need improvement

Hotel is surrounded with many facilities. Hotel rooms are not clean, Wifi is very slow, chokage of toilet bowl. The worst scenario was we were locked out on 9 Feb. We booked the rooms for 3 nights, 8 Feb, 9 Feb and 10 Feb. On 9 Feb, we left the hotel in the morning to the temple for Thaipusam. We came back at 4.45pm to change to go for a show at 5.40pm. We could not use our card to gain entry. One of our family member went down to the reception, we were given another set. The new set was not able to open the door. Called the reception, the staff came up and told me that our group is suppose to check out on 9 Feb. I have to highlight to them that we booked 3 nights. All staff should be careful and informed of all bookings.

The hotel is located in a central area but the condition of the premises is terrible. The building looks old and dilapidated. It is so dirty and unkept. The service road is bumpy and terrible. The carpark is horrible. The parking lots are insufficient. There was no signage to indicate that the carpark was full. We had to enter and make a few rounds before exiting. Also, the locals don't follow rules. They park anyhow and anywhere. How can the security allow them to park on both sides of the road in the non-parking area in the carpark. It was difficult to drive past the parked vehicles without bumping to them. There is total disregard of rules and regulations. So, we were instructed by the hotel reception to park at the basement. However, we found out only upon checking out the following day that the basement carpark belongs to the shopping mall and therefore, we had to pay for the parking charges. Why weren't we informed earlier about it? In short, our stay was ruined. I'll never book this hotel again unless it undergoes major renovation and resolve its parking woes.

impossible to sleep

music from japanese kareoke bar next door really loud until 5am EVERYNIGHT! Originally put in room on 15th floor, asked to be moved to a quiet room the next day. reception accommodating and moved us to a room on the 25th floor, unfortunately this made no difference as the music can be heard in every room in the hotel. if you want to be able to sleep during your stay in penang i would advise looking for a different hotel.

Housekeeping needs to improve.

Housekeeping was not up to standard. There was mould in the sink edges and in the shower soap holder. There was mould stains at the back of the door which looked like someone left the damp towel against the door too long. Once the room service forgot to give us towels. There was leftover dried lipstick on the mugs which indicated it was not washed thoroughly.

I was there for a conference. Ballroom was a great size and well lit. Carpet around the conference room was dirty. Kitchen didn't keep up with the catering refills fast enough. Receptionists were friendly and welcoming.

There is a large staircase going up to the entrance. They had people opening doors at the top of the staircase but no one helping you carry your luggage up the staircase.

Bathroom was not properly cleaned. I found strands of hair on the bathroom floor. In one of the drawers, were many empty plastic bottles which were not thrown away. The automatic kettle malfunctioned - water keep boiling and I had to switch off at the main plug. TV remote didn't work except to switch off the tv only. I only stayed for one night.
