Read the other reviews - they're accurate

Everything other reviewers have said is correct. Heat in the rooms is considered a \"luxury.\" Wi-Fi is spotty. Breakfast is cold bread and instant coffee. There is (some) hot water. The paint is peeling and there is little attention to detail regarding cleanliness and upkeep. However, the staff was friendly and helpful. We felt safe there. The area was extremely quiet. In short, it was an okay place to stay, but we saw better options for a better price when we had our boots on the ground in Cusco.

Look elsewhere.

The best I can say was that the people were nice and let us leave our bags at the hotel while we went to Machu Picchu. The accommodations are very spartan. The rooms were cold, and there was not very much hot water when we try to take a shower. When leaving, we opted to fly smelly and take a shower at our next destination instead of taking a cold shower again there, where, I might add, there was no shampoo available. the internet was spotty, but this is probably true in most of the city. We paid about $21 USD night, but there are places nearby, right around, was charged 50 soles ($15 USD). That's much cheaper.

We stayed at Hatun Quilla for 3 nights and were not disappointed! The owner is so helpful and friendly, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the views from the top floor where you eat breakfast were amazing!! The owner booked our rainbow mountain excursion and eve let us store our bags there so we wouldn’t have to drag them to Machu Pichu! In addition it was extremely secure and they always had the door locked, and it was extremely quiet at night. Would definitely recommend!

So cold.....

We were sooooo cold in the room. There was a heater attached to the wall but you had to pay for the extension cord to use it..... so we were so cold... even in the breakfast room, some other tourists had to go get their coats as it was freezing. The heater in the room was broken and it smelled like gas.
Also, as we were preparing to go to bed, we heard mice or rats in the ceiling and walls. We did not see any, but it was not reassuring...
So if you go to this hotel, you can't be afraid of mice, and bring your extension cord and slippers!!!!

Nice area just out of town, lots of good foot options nearby. The staff are lovely! I speak horrendous Spanish but they always helped us with a smile. Our only complaints were the breakfast (just bread, jam, butter, bologna, and yogurt - but my partner and I are lactose intolerant so we found it a little lacking and had to get a second breakfast elsewhere), and our room was FREEZING. I’m talking ice cold floors, the air is icy - which doesn’t make sense because everywhere else in the building is a tolerable temperature. Wasn’t bad enough to stop us though, we did come back a second time after Machu Picchu and the staff were kind enough to store our big bags for us.

Value, great hosts, near center of Cusco

Ten minutes’ walk from the main plazas. As nice and hospitable hosts as you can find anywhere. They allowed us to leave luggage with them for over a week while we trekked throughout Peru. In total, we visited them 3 times during our 2-week trip to Peru. We stayed three nights when we first arrived and during the Inti Raymi celebrations. We returned a week later to drop off more goodies that we bought along the way. And lastly, we came back towards the end of our trip to pick up and organize everything. They were super friendly and helpful throughout.
As for the rooms, they are clean and quaint. Considering the age and type the building and the weather, there will be a slight moldy smell when you first enter the rooms, but otherwise it was a pleasant stay. The fourth-floor lounge was a treat. The breakfast was simple, so head out into town for some Peruvian gastronomical adventures, we recommend the San Pedro Central market and the myriad of eateries around the Plaza de Armas. Shopping around Cuzco was the best too, be sure to haggle and visit the mercados south of the main plaza.

Awesome staff. Clean. Hot water but cold at night. (We are in end of may) we asked for a little heater and they borrowed one for a few hours. Close walk form about everything. A women sells fruits just next door and a food market across the street ah quiet except for the chickens next door

Cheap, but you get what you pay for

This was our first night in Cusco. This hotel may be a birds eye close to the Plaza, but oh, how the climb down, and up was steep. Plan on taking a taxi back every evening.

The room we had was a two level, but cold and miserable. My wife came away from insect bites... not normal in Cusco. The bed was uncomfortable, and the breakfast scant. After some dispute with the head manager, we cancelled and went elsewhere. Not a pleasant experience.

Hatun Quilla is a great place to set up a base for a few days and explore Cusco. They offer reasonably priced private rooms and the staff are all friendly and helpful (even when your Spanish is less than ideal).

Great value with a few imperfections

For $24/night it was a great deal. There was a leak in the bathroom that led to a wet floor but the employees are super friendly and my wife and I have enjoyed our stay here. Another reviewer mentioned rooster noise early in the morning. It didn't bother me and my wife used ear plugs.

Julio and his family run a very warm and enjoyable experience in this hotel more like a bed and breakfast. The rooms are comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. For a very good price you can get a two story-loft style accomodation thay is one of a kind! They were very also very helpful in helping track down my lost bags from the airlines. The included breakfast is nice and has the added benefit of a great penthouse view of Cusco. There are also a wide variety of restaurants and grocery store very close by. Overall excellent, unique and friendly family run experience. Highly recommend.

Best place to stay in Cusco

From the moment we got there we were greeted with coca tea and quickly were situated in our room. The room is better than what we expected. The bed was o the top floor and bathroom, storage, and table were on the first floor. We could not stop talking about how great the staff is. They are super friendly and ready to help when you need it.love this place!

Freezing cold rooms, no heaters available. Mediocre breakfast, area surrounded by several roosters who start about 4am who then set off the dogs barking. Only saving grace was the hot shower.

Cusco on a budget

The owners were most hospitable and helpful. It is an interior hostal and a bit dark but the fourth floor was a delight to spend time in. The location was an easy walk to Central Cusco.

Wonderful, Helpful Hosts in Good Location

The friendly, helpful hosts and beautiful breakfast room you can access all day makes this place. The rooms could use some TLC, and there's a slight musty smell, but they are kept clean. They bring you a carafe of hot water every afternoon so you can enjoy tea or coffee at the cafe table in your room. Convenient to Centro and there are restaurants, grocery and laundry within a block.

You get what you pay for

This place was very cheap, and it showed. The staff was freindly but didnt speak english. The room and bathroom were clean enough but old. The location was close enough to the main square, but it wasnt in a street/neighbourhood that i would have felt comfortable walking around in after dark as a single female traveller.

It is just a lie...

All the pictures and amenities are a lie, the rooms don't have a bathroom it is shared. The entrance to the hotel s in a hidden alley and the street is not safe.They just put fake pictures and lie. Don't stay here.

nicest owners ever

This is a great place if you are looking for a very affordable, clean place in a good location. Everything is walking distance and in a safe area. Julio, the owner, is one of the nicest people we have ever met. Our main issue was not having hot water the night we came back from hiking Machu Picchu, but they were able to to get it up to warm water pretty quickly. This is not a fancy place, but, again, if you want clean, comfortable and good location, this is it. Really, the nicest people we've ever met. Very helpful with ANYTHING you need.

Great location, great price, but....

This hostel has a great location at a great price, but the conditions could be better. First, the hostel gets locked up at night, and it can take a while before someone can open the door. Second, the breakfast is very basic. Third, the doors to the rooms have windows with very thin curtains on them; this is not good for privacy. Finally, the floors creak a lot. But for the price, I doubt you could find something better.

I am a travel agent and really loved this place...this place is more of a boutique hostel with very nice owners who are there to cater to whatever you need...hot water all the time...great wifi in the rooms...I even had a flat screen tv....this place rocks and I highly recommend it !

A hidden gem

overall,we enjoyed our stay very much. the place was very family friendly and you could see the family worked hard and well together. they helped us out when needed and even helped carry our bags and invited us to their party which we really enjoyed. the place is always in a great location only a few walking minutes away from the main plaza and good restaurants. only complaint was that the hot water was not consistent, though it was probably better then most places in cusco.

Dirty room, friendly staff, but cheap

Although the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room ended up having a shared bathroom instead of private bathroom as advertised. Room's carpet was covered with various generations of dust and hair, get a vacuum cleaner guys.. Road of hotel was closed due to resurfacing project and hotel was a bit tricky to locate down an alley way.

Best hostel in Cuzco

We found this hostel in Cuzco, Peru on Hotels.com and read good comments prior to booking it. When we arrived on the street we were a little concerned because the street was closed for repairs. However, we were greeted by the friendly management, 2 wonderful people Julio and Giovanna, who welcomed us and made us feel at home. The room was spacious and clean, hot water round the clock, WiFi internet, and a delicious breakfast each morning. It was like being in our own personal hotel. They management provided great information on where to get everything you need- tours, food, taxis and what you can expect to pay. We can't say enough great things about Hatun Quilla and hope that others will visit and enjoy a great stay there.

Its a little scetchy when you first leave the street. But that is the hotels nabiours not cleaning up. Once you get there Hulio and his family are very welcoming and helpfull. For the price you get a very exceptional room. The main dooes are always locked and requires one of the staff to open it. So saftey is a best as you will get in cusco. High recomened
