They made it easy. It was my first time visiting and the warmth of the staff took the edge away. I really appreciated them setting up my transfer from the airport and made the chaos of finding a taxi late at night much easier. Definitely going to use them for my next visit to Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

There is a train that literally runs through the facility located less than 109 yards away. Making the loud train horns unbearable. The tracks also help to screw up finding directions on Waze The neighborhood was dangerous.the uneven sidewalk cracks and holes big enough to swallow a medium size child were at every corner. Homeless people accost you. The holes and uneven pavement will twist an ankle right outside the door. The staff was very rude when an elderly lady in her 70”s was turned away and the staff woman told her that it wasn’t her problem that she made a stupid mistake by booking a mail dorm room and then said that they were full and wouldn’t even help her find something else and it was dark outside. If it were me I would have found at least one of the inside couches and let her stay there, but that’s just me and there were three different buildings. The building that we slept in, didn’t even have a microwave or coffee maker available and we had to go next-door up some treacherous stairs to the main facility where the outdoor kitchen is located that is shared amongst all three buildings. It would have been nice if there was a small kitchenette area so we didn’t have to go outside the premises.

The rooms were very clean. Staff was helpful and curteous. When a cold spell hit they found us an extra blanket, which was perfect. Complimentry coffee and hot water for tea. Helped us with our shower which wasn't providing us with hot water.

The guesthouse is outdated in style, and the bed was uncomfortable due to its high pillow and soft, cushioned mattress. The recommended restaurant did not serve tasty food. The price of the breakfast is not reasonable at 7 dollars. Don't provide breakfast, and no air conditioning in the room. I was too hot in the room during the afternoon.

After staying there for so many years . There were some slight issues with the rooms and staffing. But overall things got some what better. I reported that there were ants in my bathroom and bed and was hoping that they would address the issue after speaking with the lady. She offered me a different toom but i like the room because it had a balcony. I booked another night and was denied . I personally feel that after i made a review tbe yound lady who works mornings with the glasses i don't recall hwr name because she is very unfriendly and approachable it makes me very uncomfortable. She never smiles and she is very short. I even told hwr about the ants and her exact words were its a tropical country and thats how it goes. She denied my stay and told me that i was not welcomed in the future. To my knowledge i don't know of any problems or issues. I have put lots of money into that place and their restaurant. Its sadly that customer service has gone down the drain. I love costa rica guest house and was very disappointed that she has basically banned me from staying there. I am a home owner in costa rica. I basically stip in san jose to see friends and to take care of business. I wish them all the best!

We arrived after 9pm and the streets were just dark and unsafe. But the guesthouse it self was good enough to sleep. We had access to the guesthouse across the street. The environment in there was completely opposite to out in the street. It was welcoming, good food and atmosphere plus a bar with local and international drinks and a swimming pool

I traveled alone to Costa Rica. I had booked the taxi service a week in advance and had a confirmation sent via email, but when I arrived at the airport, no one was waiting for me. I had to call the guesthouse and they immediately sent someone to pick me up. It was about a 15 minute wait time. The hotel staff was very friendly and helped me book tours in advance. They also were very helpful in giving me walking directions. My room was very clean. The shared bathrooms were clean most of the times. Usually if I got in late the bathrooms were a bit dirty. However, I took flip flops and used the shower without problems. They provide soap and towels; all other items must be taken by you. The area looks a bit shady but you can walk without problems. Overall, it was an amazing stay for my solo trip.

Fine for a night
This place is fine for a night and for the price. One of the staff members was very helpful and gave us info about buses, the other didn't seem like she wanted to be there or attend to guests at all. The room was fine but the corridor it's was on and room was very dark. The bed was ok but not that comfortable, being able to feel the springs. Place was clean and shared bathrooms had hot water showers. Little seating area in reception to chill in with free tea and coffee. Good location walkable to Barrio Escalante for meals/drinks/coffee.

I stayed at Costa Rica Guesthouse twice - the beginning and end of my solo trip because i liked it so much! The location was great for walking to local attractions and driving to the airport. The free parking was perfect. The staff was great and super helpful and the room was spacious!

Great stay. My boyfriend and I are travelling for 8 months so this was perfect for our budget. Very clean. Central to the town and lots of information at the reception on local site seeing and tours that they can organise for a fee. Also free coffee!
Only issues was one of the showers did not work well (cold water and no pressure), but the other shower worked completely fine.
The area around the hostel was perfectly safe walking during the day. I felt quite safe at night, but I am travelling with my boyfriend which definitely made a difference. I would not want to be walking around at night by myself as a woman.

The property was well located. Very spacious room with a large bedroom. Everything was great,
But unfortunately my partner and I had to kill some cockroaches in the bathroom. Not sure if this was not cleaned properly or no bug killer enough sprayed around, windows were all opened when we arrived, so not sure where it came from or if it was already there.
