This hotel is very poorly advertised. I booked a room with two double beds and free breakfast included. First off, the room we got does not correspond to any of the photos provided on Expedia. The layout was questionable at best, starting with the fact that there was a sink in the middle of the room.

The ceiling light kept blinking on and off to the point that we had to turn it off entirely and rely on the other lamps for lighting.

And finally, the cherry on top, there was absolutely no breakfast. We were told at the front desk that no breakfast is offered on weekdays. Then why are you advertising free breakfast on Expedia?

I had to call Expedia, who gave us a voucher as compensation, but the hotel assumed zero responsibility. They are fully aware of this false advertising, they told me so, yet have made no effort to fix their posting. The response was basically, “Oh yeah, Expedia hasn’t changed it. You have to call them.”

The only good thing was the location, very central and close to everything. However, for ~$230 CAD a night, it was not worth it. It’s giving hostel… except you’re paying hotel prices.

We booked a two night stay for the 2026 Winter Carnival. We had room #1 right at the entrance so our windows faced the Main Street. There was a plenty of activity, with a steady stream of excited people walking by.
The music from the Carnival was a bit loud late into the evening but it was all part of it!
The room was very small and a bit dark, mainly for showering and sleeping but warm, clean and comfortable. The history of the building was beautiful as well.
It’s located on a one way street, you can park briefly to unload and paid indoor parking is literally steps down the street. We paid $25 per day to park.
The coupons for breakfast at the restaurant next-door for the included breakfast was basic but you had the option to order from the menu with a $10 per person discount. The breakfast was delicious but be prepared to wait because in our case, there was only one server both days for the entire restaurant.
Also, on Expedia, it directs you to check in at a different location, which was 3 Ursula - don’t bother, it doesn’t exist! Check in during their business hours right inside the hotel at 72, rue Saint-Louis.
We had a great time!
Great value for the money.😊

Everything about this hotel was great- we traveled with our 3 little ones and it was very safe to go in / out, quiet (during NYE -so that’s something!), super close to all the things (5-10 min walk!)

Giving it a 4-star because we had to split our family in 2 different rooms, next to each other but not connected. Also, having drying devices for the winter gear would be super convenient.

It is an old building, we were aware that there are no elevators so that wasn’t a problem, door is handled with a key, front desk is only available at certain times of the day.

The breakfast was amazing, convenient that it’s served at the restaurant next door.

Would highly recommend! Give them a call ahead of time to make sure your needs are covered :)

The room was OK, They only put one light bulb in each light fixture which made it rather dark in there. Getting a key to the room was a bit of a challenge, although we did arrive before check-in.
The breakfast was NOT included as advertised. The desk girl said she was going to refund $24.00 which I don't see on my statement, and breakfast ended up costing $58.38 per day (to be fair, that included a 20% tip) at Le Cafe de Paris - the included restaurant.

More like a rooming house than a hotel. Front desk not staffed, and I could not get in to the adjacent property to talk to someone at the front desk there (though it did not look like someone was at that desk either). Single room was very small with nowhere to put suitcase. All in all for the price, it was a place to sleep and shower-clean, but kind of \"worn out\".

Nice room. 1 member of staff on reception and nobody available to help carry cases too the 3rd floor. Photo of the exterior of the hotel is totally misleading. The outer door of the hotel was just a frame as the glass was missing and looked like it had been for some time. Room was cleaned but stair carpets hadn't been vacuum for a long time.

Check in was very difficult- directions on Expedia were wrong. Had to call number to be told how to checkin. No soap or shampoo in room to use. There was a Kerig coffee maker but no pods to make a cup. Front door glass to hotel was broken - shards finally removed on second day. Our dead bolt to room did not close. Positive: Breakfast was good. Room was small but quiet. Water was hot.

Great option due to street location it's near everything, especially chateau frontenac. This place just needs to care a little bit more and they could be golden. The location has a faded sign that could be updated and not cause confusion when locating. Check In was confusing when front desk was empty for 10 minutes and then employee arrived. Our room was the classic room and it was on the first floor, I thought noise would be bad due to proximity to front door and desk but it was minimal. The room was cozy, cleanliness missed some details and that explains this place, they miss details. Check out was bizarre, no one was there so we just left our keys at the front desk. The vouchers for the breakfast next door was excellent and enjoyable with good options and portions. Have not seen good reviews with economy room so would suggest classic room and up. Also there is no elevators only stairs up so be aware of that. We would stay here again and would just hope they care more about details and the stay would be perfect 5 stars.

Room was too small for what I paid. Laminate flooring was raised and warped due to previous flooding, I presume. Coffee maker in room didn’t work. No elevator. No place to put luggage and no counter available in bathroom. Headboard was broken on the bed and every time you rolled over, it would be bang against the wall to make for a very unrestful sleep. One night light on the side of the bed did not work.

Unit three was just horrible. The floors were all coming loose. the flooring was all peeling The bed was horrible just like it was ready to fall apart the shower was never clean. There was black mould everywhere in it. The entry door wasn’t shutting properly. When you open it, wake everybody up,And emergency door would hardly open right

Good proximity to all the main sites in Quebec City.
Room was small but comfortable.
There was only one very small soap in the room, the soap dispenser in the shower/tub was empty, 2 bath towels, 2 face cloths, and 1 hand towel for 2 people on a 3 night stay and no available ironing board and iron as stated in the online amenities. There was no maid service during the entire stay which is not totally necessary for a short stay
The breakfast included at a nearby restaurant was very good. Several choices and very sufficient.

There was no one at the hotel in the morning so we needed to search for a place to store our luggage until we could check in. Our Room (No. 6) on the 3rd floor was very warm and the AC unit did NOT work, which we immediately reported. It was never repaired so we needed to sleep with the window access to the fire escape fully opened.

Very nicely restored building. We had the classic room which had plenty of room and nicely located on main floor. Very comfortable space and bed. Only thing I would add is bath mat for inside tub. It was slippery and I already had a recent fall so was very cautious in shower.
Location was great. Parkade was less than a block away and not overpriced. Many many restaurant choices close by for supper but really appreciated the breakfast included next door at Sagamite.
Highly recommend!

Hotel was in a great location to walk around old Town. Beware there are No elevators, you have to carry your luggage up spiral stairs. The room could have been cleaned better, bathroom toilet had a black ring in it, cabinet was dirty inside, floor was dirty. There is No service if you need anything, there’s a sign posted at the front desk about it. Staff is gone at night. It’s an old and scary Hotel, is it haunted?? Go in with an opened mind.
But would not recommend, . Too much money for what your getting, and we stay in descent hotels , this was closest we could find for under $300 a night with a good location

we walked to the address identified, which there was no # 3 on that street only to then try to just go to the hotel where there was someone at the desk. the address provided was NO WHERE close to being next door, and we wasted about an hour trying to locate the check in location.

Don't be fooled. Don't stay at this hotel. Save your money. The photos provided here do not accurately depict what they really look like. The place is a complete mess. Our room (1st floor near the front desk) was in a severely unhygienic state, particularly the bathroom, which had black mold and was so unsanitary that it made it impossible for us to remain in the hotel. In addition to the overall lack of cleanliness, the towels provided were unacceptable, they were dirty or with holes in it!
Due to the urgent need to find alternative accommodation, we were forced to book a last-minute room in a different hotel at a significantly higher cost. Now, neither Expedia nor the hotel wants to issue a refund even though we couldn't use the room.

Le fait que nos deux chambres étaient au dernier étage nous a rendu la tâche de monter et descendre un peu difficile. De plus, nous avons demandé à trois reprises du papier de toilette et lorsque nous avons demandé de changer les serviettes il n'y en avait pas. Les deux télécommandes des deux climatiseurs ne fonctionnaient pas, il fallait démarrer l'appareil en appuyant sur l'interrupteur de celui-ci, mais impossible de contrôler la température.

Close to most of the historical attractions and restaurants, all in walking distance. Room is very tiny, but if you only need a place to stay for the nights, thats good enough. There's no elevator and there are three floors. You need to carry your luggage upstairs. Checkin time is limited. Dont come before 2pm. It starts at 4 per email i received. I checked in at 4 :30. During my two nights stay, the second day, I saw a lady around 2 pm at the reception, but i am not sure if it is always a person at 2 pm. It is a good place to stay if you dont have too many demands. I parked at 7 Rue Pierre-Olivier-Chauveau for $20 per day. It is 24 hours parking. About 7 mins walk from the hotel. When you go in, insert your credit card and insert the same card before you leave and confirm the payment and you will get a receipt. It is clean and spacious. I am satisfied with this hotel.

The hotel was in an amazing location. The rooms were cute and full of charm. Unfortunately, there was no air conditioning (it blew) and without screens on the windows - made for a buggy loud night. Also, one room had cups but no coffee maker while

When we did (about a 9 min walk from the hotel) the rates were reasonable and with it being so close to everything - the car stayed in the lot. It is indigenous run and owned and offers an amazing array of classic French and indigenous cuisine - I would Turn to this hotel just for access to this restaurant.

This hotel nicely captures the essence of \"le Vieux Québec\". Not only for its wonderful location, but also because of its style: very old interior, spiral staircase and overall humble appearance. My room was on the top floor, very small, no waste of room. One caveat: the hot water took a long time to come out of the shower!

The location was great. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The shower (while small) had good pressure and temperature. Shampoo and soap provided. Windows and fresh air were great on the top floor facing the street. Clean. But basic. Access to service hours was difficult. The TV did not work. The fridge has not been cleaned. Unfortunately the free breakfast provided at restaurant next door was not good. One person working the entire floor and one cook. Took well over 1.5 hours to get food. The server was doing his best but overwhelmed. Otherwise a nice visit.

Close to everything in old Quebec. Restaurant for breakfast right next door. No elevator but we knew that in advance. Unfortunately the air conditioning in our room was not working and it was very hot and humid, and the tv didn’t work. After one night we were relocated to Hotel Louisbourg, their sister hotel just a couple of doors down as the Maison General did not have any other rooms. So glad our a/c wasn't working at General! Our new room was much nicer although more stairs than the other. Great a/c, beds, and washroom. Looked out over Rue Saint Louis. We would recommend Hotel Louisbourgh over Hotel Maison Du General. Thanks to Edwich, at the General, for trying to fix our air and tv.

Door closure a hefty problem.

There is no elevator & stairs are fairly steep but nothing like Holland. The rooms are very small but clean. No one at the hotel desk on the weekend and the outer lock could use some graphite. The closure on the room door is set on high and it was very difficult to open and close. As a senior I had to really put my shoulder into it and only got it open enough to squeeze my body through sideways, getting out of the room presented another challenge. The breakfast provided was delicious. All in all, except for the hefty door closure which may have trapped me in the room, it was a good experience but not really for 2 people in a room.

First, it is important to remember this is very inexpensive - but, as they say, you get what you pay for.

We stay in town a couple of times a year, this was the worst experience ever - just fundamentally blah (or worse) in every respect.

Impolite service, kept everyone waiting for 4:00 check in even though rooms were ready. It was raining and there was no where to sit.

Paint peeling off leaky ceiling; filthy smudges on tv screen; hair in shower; walls badly scuffed and scraped; bed super uncomfortable.

Still, safe, secure, convenient location and inexpensive. I would rather pay more and get a lovely stay, but if you value savings over comfort and cleanliness then this is the one for you!

No elevators. No help from staff, no available service on weekend that we stayed. Otherwise, the place is walking distance to the center of activities (stores, restaurants, churches, bus stops).

it was charming and quiet. nothing stood put to me about being somewhere i would stay again. it had no elevator and we had to drag our large suitcases up spiral stairs. there was no lobby attendant. basically a self check in

The hotel is in a great location in old town and very easily walkable. Our room was clean and although staff do not clean rooms daily, we easily exchanged towels at the front desk. Most of the staff were friendly, but we did experience some who were not all that helpful. Our only warning to other travelers would be that there is no elevator and the stairs are narrow and steep. It is a real challenge if you have heavy luggage and/or mobility issues.

I thought the staff lacked service. We were not told the was no service to clean or replenish. We had to bring dirty towels down to the desk to get new ones. Which was fine when there was someone at the desk

Good choice for tight budget but nothing fancy.

The hotel is reasonably priced for those traveling on a tight budget. The location is very good being close to shops and restaurants.
The hotel could use some sprucing up. Some fresh paint, new floor covering and better lighting would go a long way to make the hotel more appealing.
The hotel had a arrangement with a restaurant close by for breakfast. There were about 5 or 6 choices offered for breakfast which was good and plentiful. Also, it's an old building and does not have an elevator.

The property was as expected for a few hundred years old! The main issue was the man working check in, I have forgotten his name but he was basically rude and we seemed to be an intrusion on his afternoon. He gave us the key and we moved in, rested for a while and went out to explore and get a bite to eat. When we returned for the evening, we realized that the room did not have any bath towels or glasses. We had an ice bucket but there was no way to get any ice and was told the next day that there was no ice anyway. We called the emergency number, got a French answer and left a message but never got a reply. My wife is pretty resourceful so she went searching and found an empty room and took their towels and glasses, assuming it would not be used that night as it was getting pretty late by that time. Overall, not a very good first impression.

Fortunately, the other workers were polite although we had already been warned that no one would enter the room to clear or replace anything due to health restrictions which was OK as it was only 3 nights.

We loved the location and the breakfast place next door. We did the Hop-on/Hop-off the next day (2-day pass for $5) to familiarize ourselves with Quebec City and then used it to move around the city to go back to places we wanted to see again.

Overall, the visit to QC was a delight. We left there on a cruise to NYC and enjoyed stops in Charlottetown and Halifax (other stop was too cold and rainy).
