The reviews are accurate, but in hindsight, i would have preferred to stay in a less remote location. From this site, I thought i had a private bathroom, but it was a shared bath on a different floor a decent walk away. The room was small and sparten with no place to put your luggage, but it was immaculately clean. The hotel is charming, but i didn't like that the only place to hang out was the restuarant and you could not bring outside food or drink there or to your room. Overall, it wasn't a social enough scene for a solo traveler (inside the hotel or out) and I could have found a place with a private bathroom at the same price.

Nice bar and restaurant, our room was small, but then it was described as a 'cosy double'. The bathroom is not fully separated from the room (the wall is about 6ft high with a 2 ft gap at the top) so only share with someone you are happy 'sharing' with 😉. Lovely staff and great for the price.

The hosts at Shanti lodge made me feel welcome in their lovely property. The rooms are small but if all you need is a bed, great food, and a cute bar/cafe/hangout, this is the pick. Its just close enough to the hustle and bustle of the city to help you settle in, but its also far enough away from the crowded areas that you can take a breath from the noise.

Been staying here since 2000 and it's the best value, best people and best vegan food in Thailand. You can't beat the price, location or happy vibes of the place. The owners name is Happy by the way. No pun intended.

It is a very cute hotel, that makes you feel in a small business and immersed in the culture.
However, my booking mentioned a Private bathroom, and the staff insisted that the picture on the advert was of the shared one. I kept insisting and after a few members of staff got involved I was changed to a room with private bathroom.
The room itself is cute, but the walls are not proper walls but room dividers, making all conversations and noises between rooms heard in the room that it shares the wall with.

I stayed a number of times at Shanti Lodge Bangkok in the 1990s as a solo traveler. (Big shout out to Yuan and staff from that time.) I liked the setting in Thai neighborhood, the personable vibe of the staff, and the proximity to the Thewet station on the river and the proximity to buses to historic Bangkok. I returned this time with my wife and two adolescent boys. We stayed in a 'Fabulous Family Room'. I was concerned that they would be disappointed by the Thai-ness of Shanti (e.g., it's less of a western hotel and more of a multi-room Thai house with shoes taken off at the entrance), but in fact they loved the place (especially it's cleanliness) and requested that we return there for any future visits to Bangkok. The proximity to the river continues to be great, and the neighborhood has a lot to enjoy without being far away from bigger tourist areas such as Banglamphu and Chatuchak. Keep up the good work, Shanti !

If you’re the adventurous type and want the vib of a backpacker hotel in an area where real Thai people live…. Not a hyped up entertainment district filled with foreigners…. Then this is a great choice. It’s a 5 minute walk from the Thewet boat landing, so access is easy. There’s a real Thai covered market on the way, a Wat just 1:2 block away, and best of all the restaurant was lovely for every meal we had…. From fruit and muesli bowls, omelette s, pizza, Thai dinner dishes, smoothies…. Everything! AC and a fan is a must for a room which we had. Staff was friendly. This place deserves to be full all the time, just for its overall character. Just try it for a couple of nights!

Lovely accommodations. We stayed in the Fabulous Family Room for 4 with our 2 teen daughters and it was perfect. Tuk tuk always avalable and ferry an easy walk. Delicious restaurant! Great staff!

Mixed experience. Downstairs space is pleasant and staff helpful enough, but the room is horrible. The toilet is in the room, with a low peer-over wall separating it from the bed, and a saloon-style swing door, so no privacy. Nobody shares a room unless they’re comfortable with the other person, but this takes the concept of no privacy to the extreme.

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for.

On checkout, my food and drink bill seemed higher than expected. When I questioned it, it turned out they had added someone else’s bar bill to my account. They removed it, but only after I queried it. There didn’t seem to be any control over whose bar bills were added to which room.

The hotel is next to a river-bus stop, but far from the metro.

Disclaimer: I did not interact too much with staff, used the in-house restaurant, or any of the other services such as laundry washing. I was mostly out and about, however my few interactions were very pleasant. Room was clean, had everything we needed (AC, comfortable beds, soap, shampoo, wastebin). Only downside is that it can be a bit far away from nightlife if thats what you're into, and a little over 10-15min away from nearest BTS station (Paya Thai and/or Ratchateiwi) depending on traffic, which is horrible in Bangkok. Otherwise, its an amazing stay, definitely recommend

Misrepresentation, filthy, disgusting service

Failed to honor prepaid reservation with room as described in their listing, claimed different definition of room than they advertised, then claimed they gave me a \"free upgrade\" - to a room which still had none of the advertised space, condition or amenities. The place is not \"funky,\" but FILTHY! E.g. bathroom mirror has not been cleaned in so long it's crusted & useless, & it's broken as well. Poor service, inconsistent food quality (e.g. cheeseburger may be overcooked \"crispy critter\" one time, half-raw another, and okay the third. No service - very inattentive personnel - go get one of them, ask for a cup of coffee, and an hour later, you still might be waiting.

Excellent Find!

Shanti Lodge is an excellent little find: 15 minutes walk from Khao San Road if you're into backpacking action, loud bars, and overpriced merchandise; and closer to the river to grab a ferry and go practically anywhere, cheaply! Buses can be caught on the corner too, and Shanti Lodge offers free bicycles to those who dare. We weren't expecting much to be honest, and were happy with a clean room with comfortable bed, fan and AC. No place to sit but on the bed, the floor or the restaurant downstairs (which they're ok with). Two shared clean showers downstairs, as well as a very chilled restaurant with excellent free wifi! Wifi in the rooms too - bonus! Food in the restaurant is very tasty and at restaurant prices, costing about twice as much as the nearby street food (also very tasty... head down towards Thanon Samson, turn right at the corner, walk as far as the little bridge over the canal, and on the left hand side of the street before the bridge you'll find a vendor selling a packet of \"fish-balls\" for 20 baht - yum!). Opposite Shanti is the usual 7-11 and a number of \"laundromats\". Shanti Lodge staff are friendly, and always one manager on duty who speaks reasonable English.

It is a family room but smaller than I expected. The bathroom is not blocked. The faucet is too high in the bathroom. The electricity is dark. It is not bad to stay about a day. It was good to leave my luggage.

The room vas not as described on the booking cite. On hotels.com it was described as being 150 sqm, the entire top floor. The reality was a bedroom with a small terrace of maybe 20 sgm. The services described such as massage and cooking classes did not exist. The room also had bedbuggs and I am covered in bites. I genuinely feel scammed.

Ich habe für 152 m2 penthouse teuer gebucht
Bekommen haben wir 1 kleines zimmer mit dachterasse, zusammen maximal 50 m2
Eine frechheit für diesen extrem teuren preis!!!!
Definitiv nicht weiter zu empfehlen, dazu speisen extrem überteueet

Réservé une chambre de 20 m2 et me suis retrouvé avec une chambre de 10m2 maxi sanitaire compris pour le même prix. Pas de table ou de support pour les sacs ou autre, un vrai cagibi. Aucune insonorisation, on pouvait discuter avec le voisin sans hausser le ton ( veridique). Bef, je deconseille fortement et je me demande d'où sortent toutes les notes de 5 sur 5 pour cet etablissement...
