The hotel is located in a pleasant area and is very conveniently within walking distance of several restaurants, bars, and shops. The staff were courteous and helpful.

Since it is an older building, there are a few minor inconveniences in the bathroom—for example, the lighting could be better. I also wish there had been a coffee machine in the room for an easy morning cup of coffee, and an iron was not available.

The hotel is LOVELY. Absolutely beautiful. Room was very nice. It is in the middle of Casco Viejo. Convenient. Walkable. It also means it's loud when there is a wedding at the venue next door or just night time fun. The bells from the church across the street start ringing at 6:30am on Sundays. Stay for the beauty and convenience and know it may be loud.

Old classic hotel with wood floors and nice furniture. Major problem was the music blasting from the rooftop bar at Casa Casco...directly across from this hotel. Very loud music until about 12:30 am...Wednesday through Saturday. The staff moved my room to the other side of the hotel after one night of this.

The staff was great. Breakfasts and dinner were also very good. The location was the right place to be for a visitor. Points to improve, the floor of the room was not clean, we clean it and after we realize the personnel sweep the floor instead of vacuum it. It would be a plus to wash it too. We had a suite (105). There is one switch for the living room and the bedroom, consequently, we cannot work in the living room when one person want to sleep. It takes a lot of time to get hot water from the shower, maybe two minutes (estimate). The safe was not attached to anything, a bad person could take the safe and leave. To finish on a positive note: we had the space we wanted.

My only issue during my stay: the bed was very hard and hurt my back every night.
The sheets on the bed were only changed every three days so for a week stay two times.
The room glasses that where provided where never replaced with new ones.

I would still come back for the location is great.

Beautiful hotel with amazingly spacious rooms. Really wonderful and professional staff. Great location. We took one star off for the horrible breakfast we received as part of our booking package on our first morning there. I couldn't get myself to return, though my husband did and he reported no improvement. So we essentially wasted money on the package with breakfast included. Having said that, there is a wonderful cafe around the corner. We would happily stay here if we ever return to Panama (we just won't include breakfast in our package).

The staff were absolutely amazing; every single one of them; from the receptionist to the doormen. 5* plus. The shower has intermittent hot water. The coffee machine didn’t work. The TV channels were missing. And our room was outside the church. The bells rang ‘loudly’ from 06:30 right through to 22:00 every day; Sunday to Saturday. Breakfast area had real character … but the food was cold. Bar lacks ambience but they make a grea G&T. The pool area worked but it’s a tad smaller in reality than the hotel photos. Central location but church bells at the back and loud square at the front. The hotel has real character though and the area is very safe. UBER drivers park outside; amazingly quick service when you need to get around the City. But we aware of The Bells.

Exceptional service stands out at the hotel. Front desk, bell hops, and bar staff Ivan and Johnathan were amazing. We used the small gym it had some weights and treadmills, pool area is charming. Unido coffee shop is adjacent serving geisha coffee. The only issue was the church bells right by the hotel, but nothing hotel can do they are living with history of the church. The square was lit up for the holidays with music super charming and insta worthy pics.

The room was great at a perfect location. The only thing though, we’ve requested a 3 people occupancy and it only had a King Size bed, even though the room was a suit. Perhaps adding a sleeper sofa would help the room be more comfortable. I would still recommend it!

We had a wonderful stay at the American Trade Hotel in Panama City. The hotel is a beautifully preserved historic landmark, and you feel that character the moment you walk in. The unique floor tiles and thoughtful design details give it a charm you do not find in typical hotels, and everything was spotless and very well maintained.

The location is also perfect. It is right in the heart of Casco Viejo, within easy walking distance of great restaurants, lively nightlife, and plenty of shops, so it is ideal for exploring the old town.

On top of that, the staff was consistently cordial, professional, and helpful throughout our stay. We would absolutely recommend the American Trade Hotel to anyone visiting Panama and would happily stay here again.

Things to know:
1. Rooftop bar across the plaza is bumping till the am. Not a problem if you are from the city, but if you are used to quiet ...
2. Room only had two prong electrical, and all outlet we switched making it difficult to charge phones at night.

If you’re a light sleeper like me - this hotel is not for you. It has two exposures: one to the square where there is partying and loud music every night till early morning and another exposure is to the church where the bells go off every 15 min from 6am-10pm. Resting was challenging and completely impossible during the day.

Otherwise, the hotel was fine: clean, nice rooms, nice enough staff, very basic facilities: small gym and pool that we haven’t used (too small). Food was okay - we found much better restaurants especially for breakfast elsewhere.
I guess it was fine for the price.

ATH itself is a gorgeous hotel! I love the natural elements in the design and the perfect mix of classic and modernity.
I was very disappointed in room service and mentioned it to the front desk upon checkout. Room service would come and do nothing but replace the free waters. Towels were left on the floor in bathroom, coffee pods weren’t replenished and empty glasses and coffee cups were left and bed wasn’t made. One day I had to flag room service down after they had been to the room to ask them to remove trash and items and clean. Really unacceptable and disappointing.
Some of the wait staff kept looking at me like I didn’t belong there and at least two of the front desk attendants. I thankfully I don’t experience this often but when I do it’s very obvious and hurtful. As a business owner who travels the world it’s important for me to keep note of these things. I was prepared for the level of colorism in Panamá among certain groups though.
For the most part, people in other areas were completely lovely and I was happy my limited Spanish made it easy to navigate the landscape.
While some things were unpleasant, I want to give special mention to Érica and the bar staff and Irving (doorman)
They really went above and beyond and while I won’t be back to American Trade Hotel, they were exceptional and I would definitely have a drink with them when I return :) thank you

Lovely boutique hotel in the old town. Room was nice and spacious. Had a problem with hot water on the first night that was promptly fixed but recurred the next morning. This was quickly resolved by being moved to a different and upgraded room, where everything was fine. Staff was great, especially Andrea at the front desk, who was fantastic, promptly resolving the above issue and had great recommendations for the area. Both rooms were great, lovely balconies - both rooms were church side (Church of the Mercy, quaint baroque church). No problems with the church bell on the hour (ear plugs are part of the bathroom amenities) — though light sleepers may find this problematic as the room lets in some outside noise. Church side is a lot quieter than the Plaza Herrera side - except for the church bell. Will stay here again.

I will start by saying how accurate my decision was to finally book this hotel for my very first visit to Panama City - a real piece of history, almost like being in a film set. From the welcoming message I received after making my booking to the friendly and kind reception I was welcomed with on the evening of my arrival and during my stay, the American Trade Hotel did not fail my expectations. Everything I had requested them beforehand, including the possibility of a room with a balcony for my sister and brother in law who were travelling with me, was made available to us in the kindest way possible. The two rooms who were adjacent to each other had fantastic views onto the main square in the area, Plaza Herrera, as well as the Cinta Costera, the sea, and other interesting buildings. We felt absolutely fortunate with our rooms, and for this, I couldn't be more grateful to the hotel. Numerous could be the positive things that I could keep adding on like the location within the historical Casco Viejo, the excellent restaurant in the hotel so as the variety of choices in the area including cafes and bars, but nothing beats the very friendly and welcoming attitude of all the staff, and particularly Kevin who was the one to welcome us on the evening of our arrival. One little thing that I may have found not completely perfect was the fact that the temperature of the air conditioning in my room seemed to fluctuate during the night but it wasn't a terrible inconvenience at all.

I wanted to give this hotel a positive review, because it's appearance, both exterior and interior, is immaculate. The property is beautiful and seemingly well maintained. The hotel is also in a convenient location in the old part of the city. The hotel staff were professional, polite, and helpful. The frequent loud ringing of church bells nearby may be bothersome for some guests (my room was not soundproof), but it was not bothersome for me. I mention this for prospective guests who may experience sound sensitivity.

I wrote that the property is \"seemingly\" well maintained, because I do not believe that to actually be the case. Every time I tried to use hot water in my bathroom, it was unavailable, both in the sink, and in the shower. Every time I needed hot water, I had to go to the concierge desk and inform hotel staff that there was no hot water in my bathroom. If this had been a one time occurrence, I could have considered it a fluke and not mentioned it here in this review, however I had to leave my room and visit the concierge EVERY time I needed hot water available. Maintenance staff had to be repeatedly sent to my room. On one occasion, I lost the hot water they had managed to provide to me less than half way through a brief shower, which was very unpleasant. While the hotel would appear to be high end in appearance, it was not high end in its accommodations. Sadly, despite its beautiful appearance, I would not recommend a stay here.

Amazing stay at the ATH

After several weeks of research on hotel review sites we decided on staying at the ATH for a family vacation to Panama. Overall we must say our stay surpassed our expectations and we would definitely stay there again.

Location: Being smack in the middle of Casco Viejo, we enjoyed the antiquity of the surroundings. It was next door to a great little square and a fantastic church. It was easy to get an Uber from the airport and from the hotel to anywhere else in Panama City. There were numerous walking location restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries and a convenient small grocery just across the street. Its a 15min walk to the Metro, that was convenient, cheap and on time. We thought the walk was safe but may be subjective based on your travel experiences.

Room: The room was spacious and quite high ceilinged. Comfortable bed and our room had an accessible wrap around balcony. Convenient for a morning or afternoon coffee or glass of wine. Good wifi signal and speed and a useful smart TV. A bar with fridge came in useful. Some previous reviews complained about noise around Plaza Herrera. We are deeper sleepers so that didnt affect us, though on weekends you were likely to hear the music extend into early morning hours. If you are a light sleeper we recommend you ask for a room facing the church instead of the park as that might reduce the volume a bit.

American Trade Hotel was the perfect hotel for exploring Casa Viego. It was in a beautiful square right in the middle of old town. The staff were all super polite and helpful. The property was beautifully decorated. I especially loved the Spanish tile and all of the lovely potted plants. The library was so pretty and had so many books! The pool was being remodeled, so it was disappointing we weren’t able to use it. Our room had all the comforts of home. Big pillows and a super comfy bed. Housekeeping was great and we loved the turn down service. Our room was in the corner on the fourth floor. The lights from the church across the street were quite bright in the middle of the night. The church bells ring every half hour and hour. Personally, it did not bother us, but it might others. Bring earplugs, the nightlife noise can get a bit loud, especially on a Saturday night.

Girls trip

Great hotel and location, in the center of Casco Viejo. Surrounded by amazing restaurants and bars. All of them at walking distance from the hotel. The people working there were very nice an attentive. The only con is the bell ringing of the church right next to the hotel. It starts at 6:00 am everyday, everything else is awesome.

This was my second stay at the property. I gave them a second chance. The property is beautiful and has lots of character . My issue this time was the restaurant closing at 6:30 , and room service was not available. It was an inconvenience to have to leave the property. I also did not have hot water , but I was given a new room . Going forward I will just stick with the Sofitel Panamá hotel

Unfortunately badly run, there are many better options in the area at the same price. It may have been great at some stage but not anymore. Sofitel and La Capagne outshine this by 3 stars!
