Our stay at Varinda Garden Resort was absolutely lovely, and what made it truly special was the incredible staff and the wonderful breakfast each morning.

From the moment we arrived, the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Everyone was kind, attentive, and genuinely caring, always ready to help with anything we needed. Their hospitality created such a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and it felt more like staying with family than in a hotel.

Breakfast was a highlight of our stay. The selection was delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared, with a great variety to suit different tastes. Sitting down to such a high-quality breakfast each morning was the perfect way to start the day.

Varinda Garden Resort is a peaceful and charming place, made exceptional by the people who run it and the care they put into every detail. We would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a warm, welcoming stay.

Beautiful view from the pool area. Difficult and steep walk down to the beach. Room was very dark and depressing, very little natural light. Bathroom was gross. No swim up bar and very limited menu.

This is the most welcoming and spiritual place ive ever stayed. The staff are super friendly, helpful and kind. Out tree house was so cute and homey! Breakfast is included and really really good! The property is so interesting and ecclectic! I would strongly reccommend it!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the eclectic look of the entire resort and how it is nothing like any resort/hotel we’ve ever stayed. Although its location is not “close” to restaurants, shopping, the beach, etc., they are within 10-20 minutes walking distance. The photos shown on different sites do not capture what you will experience when you are there. I would highly recommend this resort!!!

This was perfect for us.... we felt very much at home here. It's a little rough around the edges in places but we stayed in shiny resorts that were stale and pomp. Lovely friendly staff. Great to see children enjoying themselves not on screens. Impossible to see all the artwork, every day we'd see something new. We would definitely come back here.

Whimsical Getaway

This resort is absolutely magical! It felt like a whimsical garden of Eden. The staff were amazing and super nice. They helped us rent scooters, book excursions and massages, and even personally drove us to the pier on our last day. Breakfast was good, and one of the resort dogs is a sweetheart! He would come and greet me every time we returned on our scooters.

The family suite has an amazing view and porch to relax on. Since it’s a rustic room I expected to see a lot of bugs and geckos but it was super clean and bug free.

The only thing that could improve was the beds were pretty firm.

Overall I highly recommend and I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Absolutely beautiful experience, very old school Samui. You could spend hours looking at the art all over the resort. Pool was refreshing with a view over the water. Bit of a walk to the beach or Lamai, this place is best enjoyed with a rental car or scooter. Rooms a bit rustic but it adds to vibe.

Great place with awesome decoration and art, possibly hippie inspired. Beautiful view from pool area. Each unit is a private bungalow. Tie dyed sheets were a nice touch. It is a bit of a walk down the hill to the beach and simce I injured my foot the day before I stayed only one night and got a beachfront room. Only negative is that it is not beach front.

Beautiful, unique and full of love

This was the greatest place I have ever stayed. It is family owned and you can tell the staff really care and love it. It is extraordinarily clean - the room, pool area, restaurant ... spotless. The beach and town were very easy to access down a path (maybe 10 min?). The upcycled decorations and inspirational signs around the property created a loving, positive vibe. I have not a single bad thing to say about this place. It was absolutely perfect and I highly recommend it!

Typically Thai experience that is fast disappearing. Great food, Fantastic views and lovely people. If you are a nature lover and a dog lover this is a must visit place. You are surrounded by beautiful artwork and lovingly cultivated gardens in a wonderfully calming atmosphere. Your heart and mind will be healed by this place... Absolutely fabulous.. keep up the good works guys xx

If you ever thought about building your own dreamland, this is it. The moment u entered its realm you will be fascinated by all the colors, plants and crafts stacked into this small place. The room is simple natural style. The infinite swimming pool and the restaurant is so funky and overlooking the whole Lamai Beach. One problem is too many mosquitos if you are surrounded by nature and no rope or stack to hang the washed clothes.

A really friendly experience

We loved this place so much, I would recommend it to anyone visiting the island.
The place itself is very unique and different in style to most hotels with its quirky charm. It is also very comfortable and clean. But most of all, it is family run by the loveliest people and their 4 friendly dogs, it makes such a difference to have this genuine friendly welcome rather than normal hotels where it's just someone's job.

I felt very at home here. We spent 3 nights at multiple locations, I would definitely recommend anyone doing the same stays at Varinda

Hotel with character

If you are looking for marble floors and gold taps, this hotel is probably not for you. If you are looking for something a bit different, full of charm and character with good, friendly service at a family run hotel, it is. Accommodation was in Thai style bungalows, all done out differently with bags of character. Granted, perhaps could do with upgrading (towels and bedding a bit worn) but very clean and maid service was great - towels and bedding changed every single day. Good restaurant and lovely pool idea for families and kids and with lots of shady areas to relax in and get a spot of privacy. Short walk to Lamai centre and beach. Up an incline and shortcut via set of steep steps so not good if you are not very mobile or fit. Would we visit again - YES!

Horrendous, or just misguided.

If you are going to book this hotel on the pictures here, than know that this is as dangerous as marrying someone from tinder based on their profile pic. I think I read an article once which said that everyone has at least five good photos of themselves. It is only under high definition and the light of day that the gravitas of this design crime is truly felt.
Have you ever taken a psychadelic drug, had a really bad trip and woken up in an asylum? No? Then welcome to Varinda. Every possible inch or space has been filled with the detritus of a mad man. Mixed in with the thoroughly uncurated decor are the unnecessarily strict and repetitive warnings not to move or touch the furniture. It is as if the owners are aware that any slight adjustment to the placement would cause a singularity forcing the universe to collapse in on itself. Perhaps for the good, as we move onto the room that we paid $80 never to be seen again. Do you remember those bedsheets that your grandparents kept in the cupboard only to be brought out every five years when extended family was over? The you will be well versed for the stench of musk and stale breath that await you. In all honesty apart from a few sections of the wall falling down the room was serviceable, if overpriced.
As for breakfast, let me just say if you offer a starving, disabled Labrador a bite under the table and he turns his nose up that says it all. Avoid the breakfast all together by booking anywhere else. Please.

We had a great time at Varinda hotel, our house was ideal for families with separate bedrooms with plenty of space and the house was cleaned daily,excellent air conditioning (a must with humid weather)and electric fans if needed.Breakfast was diverse and plenty of it too.The hotel its self is unlike any other,quirky and different from anything else we've stayed in,we had both pools to ourselves most of the time which the kids loved with the small slide,it's peaceful and quiet and 5 minutes to town,restaurants and beach although quiet steep climbing the hotel steps on the way back in 35 degrees heat? Overall we would not hesitate booking this hotel again,it might not be to everyone's taste but it certainly suited us.

Don't book this hotel!!

Don't reserve this hotel!! We were extremely disappointed. When we arrived they told us that our reservation had been cancelled, even though we had prepaid. We were given no apologies and their only explanation was that the hotel was full. They told us that they transferred our reservation to another hotel and we had no choice. They tried to scam us since the other hotel was cheaper and they wouldn't even refund us the difference. This had also happened to seven or eight other couples so they had probably overbooked and put up the price. Hotels.com were supposed to investigate this hotel. I would not trust them!

A Hotel with a Difference

Varinda is unique, our bungalow was quaint, clean and comfortable. The actual property is one big and unique garden with every corner and crevice displaying some unusual and eclectic feature.
The management and staff are extremely attentive, obliging and polite and a great restaurant is available for free breakfasts, you can also purchase dinner drom a great selection of food. The pool is also great with lovely views.
The rate is high by Thai standards but not by Ko Samui standards.

quirky little hotel

This is a very quirky little hotel set on a small hill near Lamai Beach. The setting is a but like cottages in the jungle and there are so many weird things and knick knacks around you wouldn't know where to look. I love the Yamaha motorbike sitting in the restaurant. The rooms are independent cottages which are lovely. Not the most updated or even the most functional. But still quite fun. The sheets and towels and shower etc are a bit threadbare, but you shouldn't be staying here if you are too concerned about those things. And the pool is lovely. So are the staff; very nice and helpful.

Quirky and interesting hotel

Quirky hotel on a hill surrounded by a jungle like matured garden. I had a chalet near the reception that came with a balcony. Enjoyed seating at the balcony watching the pool full of fishes and butterflies darting about the flowers. Healthy population of birds and even heard an owl hooting in the nights. Serene atmosphere but careful of the mosquitoes in the evenings.
The owners run the hotel and contribute continuously to the landscape of the property. Pool is on top most level and the restaurant had a lovely view of the surrounding greenery. Interesting nooks and corners to sit or steal away to for some personal time.
Guests who have trouble with their knees may find it inconvenient to walk down the long staircase to the main street.

Quirkly but can be dangerous.

Short 10 minute walk to beach. Beware, free wifi is only available in lobby, which is on a wooden bench in front of resort. We had to pay 1000 bahts for wifi in our room and it was terrible. Had to resign in every couple of minutes. Would look into getting wifi from a cellphone shop, as it would be better and cheaper. Kitchenette consisted of sink, fridge and microwave. Only had two cups and four glasses; no pots, plates, bowls or cutlery. Sofa in livingroom was a wooden bench and the two chairs were broken. At first look glance the resort looks cute and quirky, but when you take your rose colored glasses off you notice the dangerous walkways, with broken wood planks and rusty nails protruding. Would recommend having your tetanus shot first. Cleaning staff were great. Kids enjoyed the pool. Breakfast was good. Had one of the houses with a great view. We stayed over Christmas season, so it was very expensive for what we received.

Adventure playground for bigger kids

We stayed 6 nights with our 2 children, 7 and 2 years old. The hotel grounds are like an adventure playground for kids, including water slide, fish pond, and hammock. Not so much for the smallest, though, because of big steps and the long stairs down to the beach. The family house was dark wood inside and had a stuffy smell, also the bedding smelled. The promised 30-inch flat screen TV was actually a little box-TV from the 1990s, with very bad TV reception. The restaurant was good, breakfast was included. Bring lots of mosquito repellent, because it is a serious Garden Resort.

This was exactly what I was looking for.

Something that wasn't touristy. It was small and very personal. The staff was great and made us feel very welcome. It was on top of a hillside. So you had a perfect view of the beach. The beach was very close. Just walking distance. I would recommend this for a traveler. Not for a family who had a bunch of requests.

a quiet gem above the madness

Varinda Garden sits on a hill above the tourist-filled beaches of Koh Samui Island and what you give up in near-ness to a beach is more than offset by the solitude, friendly service and unique charm of the resort. You can easily forget about the maddening traffic of motorcycles and cars on the road below. And with a large swimming pool filled with constantly- flowing, warm water, and surrounded by palm trees and tropical plants, who needs a beach anyway. A water slide is at the dividing line of two halves of the pool, and adults seem to enjoy it as much as kids. The decor of the restaurant and surrounding grounds is original and very tasteful -- in a very Thai way. Calling it quirky doesn't quite do it justice, since it all comes together nicely. Family-friendly, I'd love to return with our grandkids some day.

Family holiday to The Hotel Varinda, June 2O12

The Varinda is a beautiful haven of peace and tranquility, and only a short walk from Lamai Beach. The hotel grounds are well maintained and full of ponds, waterfalls and lots of beautiful stautes,pots and a variety of modern sculptures. There is something interesting to look at wherever you venture.The staff are extremely friendly and eager to please and we were made to feel extremely welcome. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone, but would point out that it is not a modern marble and teak luxury type of hotel-it has a much more laid back and rustic feel to it. My family and I would love to go back there. Due to the number of steep steps down to the main street-it is probable suitable for the elderly or families with small children, although taxis are cheap and will happily bring you right up to the main reception area.

enchanting just got back Jan 10. I was trying to say that the lovely setting and bungalows in the hotel made a change from the boring beige and brown rooms you get in most hotels. Absolutely delightful setting and staff very friendly and helpful. If you h ave walking difficulties it's not the best place to stay and leave the stilleto heels at home. There is a shuttle down to the beach - if you are fairly fit then the steps are no problem and you get a lovely view as you go. The walk is well worth the view from the top. I loved all the little interesting sculptures and wooden chickens and lighting and fountains and lush greenery. Much fun to see.

Et ganske annerledes, men fint feriested ved det lille fjellet sør på Lamai-stranden.
Svært sjarmerende feriested, romslige rom, godt vanntrykk i dusjen og et veldig fint sted for familier å bo. Jeg vil ikke anbefale det til familier med spedbarn og små barn, på grunn av mange trapper og forskjellige nivåer for de små å skade seg.
Eierne og personalet er hyggelige mennesker.
3 små svømmebassenger med et fint område med solsenger og en yogasalong. Ikke noe treningsstudio.
Tilgangen til feriestedet er litt upraktisk hvis du ikke kjører motorsykkel eller bil. Men hvis du er i normal form, er det en snarvei (trapper) til gaten og stranden.
Kort avstand til Macro.
Frokosten er ikke mye.
Maten på restauranten er veldig deilig.
Dessverre stenger restauranten klokken 19.00 hver ettermiddag.
Dette feriestedet gir kanskje ikke det beste førsteinntrykket ved ankomst, spesielt ikke om natten, på grunn av for lite lys ute, men den positive stemningen og inntrykket vokser raskt i løpet av de første dagene, og da vi sjekket ut, ville jeg ikke dra. Jeg elsker dette stedet, og kommer definitivt tilbake. Anbefales for folk og familier med barn fra ca 5 årsalder.

Hyggelig hotell - uforglemmelig i positiv forstand

Dette er et hyggelig sted med god stemning. De som jobber der er vennlige. Vi har reist rundt forskjellige steder på Koh Samui og det var fint å komme til hit. Bassenget er ok, utsikten veldig flott, interiøret er spesielt, men det funker på sitt vis, og bidrar til den gode stemningen.

Go for the charm, not for the comfort

A very charming hotel, so many cute details and lovely, helpful staff.
A very nice guy helped us with a gekko in our room.

Generally, wonderful sorroundings, but the rooms really lacked comfort, and I wish most of the attention to detail would have been spend on making the rooms nice,
especially in this heat, your hotel room is your place for relaxing and cooling down. The room had barely any water in the shower, bad aircondition and doors and windows that couldn’t fully close, so easy access for unwanted animals, and the room was always way to hot.

My family and me stayed for two weeks in a family home in the Varinda Garden. The Varinda Garden is one of the most beautiful and lovely resorts on the island, so unique and artistic. We have never been to such a special place before. The Garden is perfect for children with a great pool and lots of other things to discover. We had a very clean and comfortable family house with an astonishing sea view. The food and the breakfast was very delicous and also beautiful and healthy. The Garden is run by a family which is very friendly and lovely. At every time there was someone you could talk to and get usefull information about the island.
This is a place for the esthetic eye. Even on our last day, we spottet details we hadn't recognized before.
The beach, a supermarket and the Lamai main street are nearby, everything reachable within 5 minutes.
If you want to have a special holiday with memories and pictures for your life, we highly recommend you this awesome place.

Personal hatte immer ein fröhliches Lachen.
Inhaberfamilie war stehts da und hat beraten und über persönliche Sachen und Erlebnisse gesprochen. Herzlicher Empfang.
Es gibt in der Anlage immer wieder neue Sachen und Dekorationen zum entdecken. Anlage ist in der Natur. Viele alte Bäume und Wasseranlage. Herrliche Aussicht über Lamai Beach und das Meer.
Jeden Tag Zimmer gemacht. Unterkunft sehr zu empfehlen. Mittleres Budget

Mycket oljud på natten

Var väldigt mycket oljud från vägen jämfört med förra gången tyvärr. Det gjorde det svårt att sova,annars är det ett kanon ställe.

Es war wieder ein wundervoller Urlaub. Danke an den super Service von der Rezeption bis hin zur Küche,Zimmerservice und die Bedienung. Alles war super. Es gibt nichts zu meckern,wie vor acht Jahren schon.
Wir fühlen uns immer sehr wohl. Danke an das gesamte Team. Großes Lob👍👌

A hidden gem not far from Lamai beach

What a lovely resort this is. I enjoyed my 6 days here, I should have stayed much longer! The owners are very sweet and make you feel at home. There is something very colorful and peaceful (a lot of wonderful Buddha quotes) about this place. Lots of birds and butterflies. I had a basic cottage which was all I needed. Breakfast was great as well. I will definitely come back!

Pour la deuxième fois j ai ete tres déçu petit dejeuner le matin tres mauvais nouveaux personnel pas du tout au top et pour cloturer les femmes de menages toutes des voleuses et oui on c est fait voler notre appareil photo dans la chambre fermer a clef suel la receptio et les femmes de menage on la clef on avait tous nos souvenir

Das Hotel ist wirklich einzigartig und individuell eingerichtet. Leider ist das Frühstück wirklich schlecht. Es gibt 4 verschiedene Gerichte zum Frühstück und was garnicht geht maximal 2 kleine Tassen Kaffee. Die Sauberkeit unseres Zimmers war richtig übel. Am ersten Tag haben wir alle Betten neu beziehen lassen da alles voller Flecken war. So richtig wohl gefühlt haben wir uns nicht. Wir haben einfach das beste daraus gemacht und unseren Urlaub trotzdem sehr genossen.
