The rooms were clean and staff were friendly. Rooms are nicely decorated with useful toiletries such as shampoo, shower gel and cotton buds. Hairdryer, kettle and tea and coffee was available in room which was also useful. The room was cosy and bed was comfortable however we were in a room with a door that led to another, the host did show us the room and informed us about this however we were able to hear the people staying next door quite easily due to this as it sounds like their bathroom was the other side of the door/wall. Parking is available however it can be difficult to find an actual space if arriving late. Nonetheless the stay was good and was definitely budget friendly, would recommend .

Fantastic. The Ascott hotel is wonderful, and I had a lovely stay. The owner was very welcoming on arrival, and my single room with an ensuite bathroom was immaculate. For my first stay in Manchester, this was a great location, close to some excellent shops and bars, and 10 minutes' drive to Salford Quays. I would most definitely book this hotel again.

Super room and comfy bed, home from home. No Takeaways allowed in the room and an early checkout of 10 a.m. with a check in at 4 .p.m. shows a lack of flexibility in these modern times. Decent value with an optional breakfast. Well positioned on a regular bus route.

I really wanted to have breakfast in this hotel but when I booked it on line it said I had to do this at the hotel. The manager disagreed and said it could only be done at time of booking and no breakfast was available. I had a problem with the shower which I informed the hotel about. I also found the entrance to the rear parking extremely tight.

I stayed one night on a business trip. Swift check in. Staying in a single room which was adequate but was kept awake by the guest upstairs walking around on creaking floorboards for about half an hour at 4am!
Bed was ok but far from the most comfortable I've stayed in (28 nights away in the last 5 weeks so plenty of experience of properties at this price point!)
The saving grace was the the property has free parking and is walking distance to a fabulous restaurant (Noir Steakhouse) which is definitely worth a visit.
Didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that.

This was my third stay at the Ascott and I will keep coming back whenever I visit my family in Manchester. As an American I very much appreciate the things that make it different from the big hotel chains. It is quiet, it is personal, it is comfortable and to me “very British” which is a good thing. The rooms are all different in style and decor. They are comfortable tho and have all the features and amenities described. The overall feel of the hotel is that of a large comfortable home, not the cookie cutter institutional style of hotel chains. Breakfast is available and served in either a sunny breakfast nook or a larger sitting room. There are several menu choices but I always have the English Breakfast - which is tasty and a satisfying way to start the day. The inn keeper and his team are friendly and welcoming.

A few things to keep in mind. Pay attention to the check in hours- it’s a small inn so make sure you check in during the hours noted. Once you have your keys you can come and go as you please. There is off street parking but don’t hog the space - be respectful of the guests who will need to squeeze in after you. If you do want breakfast, reserve it when you make your room reservation - they plan and purchase accordingly so have little flexibility for last minute changes. If you are planning to have a noisy gathering during your stay, you should look elsewhere - this is a place for a quiet rest to prepare for a busy day!

Can't comment much as really only used it as a bed for the night. The check in is too late though at 4pm and check out very early at 10.30 even though it says 11.00 am on the booking.

I think breakfast should be offered as standard, never been to this type of establishment before and no breakfast offered it is for all purposes a B&B, only offered at extra cost. Room was quite pricey anyway for what it was.

Heating is centrally controlled and wasnt turned on until a while after I arrived. If you come in late at night room will be cold and turned off promptly in the morning, so make sure that you have had your shower.

One night in the room I was in is enough, it did the job for what I required.

We had a lovely quiet room which was what we wanted. The bed was big and comfy and we both slept well although the room was very warm. Check in and out was easy. Parking was safe and easy. We didn't have breakfasts as we had an early hospital appointment so can't comment on the food. Hopefully we will have time for breakfast next time.

I loved my stay at this small, cozy hotel. I picked this hotel for two reasons; I needed something close to my family; I was looking for something \"English\" and not a global cookie cutter room. I never regretted my choice. The room itself was comfortable, clean and well equipped with a full bath, WIFI and a nice TV. The rest of the hotel is also very nicely appointed. The breakfast room is bright and sunny (well, as bright and sunny as it gets in England) and also comfortable. My room choice included a full english breakfast - which I very much enjoyed. The innkeeper and his staff were welcoming and I looked forward to that breakfast moment to prepare myself for a day of energetic grandkids and touring the countryside. Parking is off-street so you dont have that to worry about. The Monton village center is short walk and on the one day I was on my own for dinner, I was spoiled for choice.
So, on to the \"English\" part. This is a small, well run hotel - not the Hilton, so one cant expect 24/7 anything you want service. Check in during published hours but after that you will have your own key to come and go. I found the innkeeper and his staff to be very pleasant and helpful in all my interactions with them. There is an intimate feel to the hotel which sets it apart from the hotel chains - I felt like a guest and not a statistic.

I got there on Friday afternoon and somewhat annoyingly they close check in between 1pm and 5pm so was left hanging around with my bags in a pub near the railway station. When I got here though it was worth the wait. The bloke who I took to be the proprietor was very helpful and friendly. The rooms are more than adequate for my one night stay and had free decent quality WiFi.

Towel is dirty, they seems like used by the previous customer. The staff service is terrible and unfriendly. They don’t follow the confirmation letter which booked by customer. Fabulous, quirky/quaint B&B. A little dated but in a very good way, it feels very homely. The guys who runs this place could not have made me feel more welcome. You are free to come and go as you please as you are given front doors keys. Don't believe other reviews about this. Breakfast was very good too. Free parking is a bonus, car park is a little tight. Within a 8-10 walk of a good range of bars and restaurants. I will definitely stay here again.

Nice property in a decent location close to shops, bars and restaurants. Room was really nice and a good size and the cooked full-english breakfast was excellent as was the coffee. Staff were welcoming and friendly. My only issue was with the shower which was very weak and not high enough for a tall person. I did have a good night's sleep but could hear the person in the next room breathing through the single, locked door between the rooms, fortunately they were pretty quiet and I'm not sure this would apply to all rooms. Overall, I would stay again.

Misleading about breakfast, terrible shower

A lot of stairs to the room. Front door locked and manager took some time to open up at 5:00 pm. Then he spent 10 minutes complaining becuase we used hotels.com to book which means he has to pay commission. Then told us that the breakfast is only an egg sandwich sent to our room and we could not cancel and get a refund becuase too late. Shower was old and difficult to get right temperature and low pressure. Only good thing was the bed. Would not stay again.

The room was clean and pleasant but I payed extra for a nicer room and I didn’t see evidence of this. The bathroom was a little shabby and the bed was very uncomfortable, lumpy and sloped to the outside.
The most annoying thing about the hotel was that they allowed someone to check in (the room opposite us) after 10.30pm and the guy checking them in (presumably the manager/owner) was very loud and was talking at their door. This woke us up after we had just got to sleep ready for our early flight the next morning.

Stayed for one night in single room. The design of the B&B is cute and quaint. The front main door remains locked at all times, but a key is provided for entry. Upon check-in, staff was helpful and frank with answers to my questions (but I appreciate when people are direct). The room was clean with comfortable bedding/mattress, kettle, coffee, and tea. The breakfast did not disappoint and well worth the extra cost. I will definiely stay again if I return to the area.

We had a lovely stay at the Ascott for a weekend. Plenty of parking, which was important for us as we were driving from Scotland. The owners and all staff were lovely and very welcoming. The decor is quirky and tasteful and makes the place very homely. Location is fantastic with lots of places to eat nearby and Eccles station a mere 10minutes walk. Highly recommend!

Wow, what a place!

I was sceptical that a guest house in Eccles would live up to the £82 price tag we were paying but I dont mind admitting we left feeling we'd had great value for money.
The Ascott is deceptively big with a lot more parking than you'd expect too. We stayed in Room 31 which was very big by hotel standards with a large bathroom with bath/shower.
The elusive mirror over the dressing table was another pleasant surprise - we've stayed in so many hotels where the mirror is in a completely inappropriate part of the room for doing hair and make up.
Comfy bed with lovely pillows too.
Breakfast was self serve for cereals and juices, and a hot breakfast and tea/coffee was ordered individually and brought to our table, all of which was very nice.
I would have no problem recommending the Ascott, and if we ever had to stay in the area again we'd happily return here.

Nice standard place to stay, I have stayed here 3 times so far and will return. WIFI is good in the rooms better than travelodge and premier inn. Good showers, very comfortable beds. Friendly staff, I have not had breakfast here so cannot comment on this. Plenty of coffee etc in the room not the standard couple of milk pots as other places do.

Deceiving photos for standard room

I checked ALL the photos on the site and not one of them had the room we were given. We booked a standard room and the only photos showing on there show a room with enough space to walk around the bed. Instead we got a room with no space. We had to put our bags under the bed, the chair in front of the small desk hit the bed when you pulled it out to sit on. If you are going to advertise a standard room, it is more honest to show all the photos that pertain to that size room. We stayed 2 nights so this was not comfortable. Overpriced for what we got.

Other than that, the free car park was good to have, the 20 minute walk into Eccles village was easy enough if you didn't want to go into the main city centre.

Very nice Victorian B+B decorated to the period. Location was very good and the walk to the town was fine. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Parking is tight, especially for larger vehicles. Room was very quiet and bed was great. Breakfast was very good and above the norm each morning. Missed Air Conditioning, but think ceiling fans would help with that. Europe needs to become more compliant with disability and old persons issues, I don't know why bathroom grab bars are not the norm in more facilities for both the owners and users. Would definitely stay again.

Quaint and enjoyable

My wife and I stayed overnight at the Ascott. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was excellent. The building was quaint and characterful. We had a top floor room in the middle of a heatwave but the staff had opened the various windows so the temperature had been moderated. Parking was good, we managed to park our hire car on the grounds during the night and also during the day.

Nice welcome. Nice, clean room with top quality bedding and pillows unfortunately bathroom extractor fan was VERY loud. No big deal but could do with getting a new one though.
Breakfast was excellent
