The hotel presents a very elegant picture. It was quite nice to sit in the lobby, not an activity that I otherwise pursue. It is located in a safe residential area. No tourist destinations nearby but plenty of dining opportunities, including right on the same block. The room does not have a fridge. Therr was one element of cleanliness that needs to be addressed. Amid all the marble, including the bathroom sink, the staff have mistakenly interpreted the rims of the sink platform to also be patterned marble. It is not. The patterning is accumulated grime which I was able to demonstrate by scrubbing part of it clean and exposing the white surface that has become grimy. Ten minutes of effort with a “cleaning eraser” would render it clean. This was the only negative in an otherwise comfortable stay.

The hotel is nice clean. We faced issue with one of the staff since we couldn't take the breakfast for several days due to our plan, one day we passed by 10 mn before the breakfast time to grab a coffee and one od the staff members made a huge problem for a cup of coffee!

Great little hotel, close to centre with bus just outside on central bus routes. Btekfast was nice quality products ( we did need to ask for refil of some food a few times though)
Rooms were good and spacious though the hotel itself is quite dated was probably fantastic when it was new. Overall i would stay again definitely.

Whilst the building itself and the entrance seems very nice, the rooms are musty, old and less than impressive.

The bed has a big dip in it. It felt like the mattress was 20 years old and had a lot of heavy people sleeping on it.

The walls were dirty, it smelt musty in there I had to open the window every day to try and air it out.

The key in the door almost didn’t even work! It took a lot of effort to turn the key on the right angle to open the door.

No kettle, tea or coffee in the room.

Location was good as the bus stops basically right outside and you can take the bus to the train station or straight across the city.

The Hotel Des Epoques was all we asked for and more. When we checked in, and went up to our room the we had initially paid for, the check-in clerk quickly met us in our room and offered an alternate arrangement since we had a party of three, my wife, daughter, and me. We viewed the other room and it had two separate bedrooms with queen sized beds, and a shared bathroom. It was perfect. The decor was extravagant, with chandeliers in each room. The breakfast each day offer good low carb options, in addition to a variety of pastries. The cappuccino machine was exquisite. We were very close to some very restaurants. We will return to this location the next trip to Rome.

The staff was amazing and it was a great location. The room was large enough but we were on the fifth floor so we had to take the regular elevator to the third floor, get out, walk through a couple doors, down a hall and get on the exterior elevator to the fifth floor. That was annoying but we managed. All of the people working there were very kind and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again if we come back to Rome!

Loved my short stay! Great hotel

Well I give average as building old. Toilet not working properly. No exception was made about breakfast as they were ready at 7am but did not allow to get anything until 7:30 I paid extra for this and only able to eat on last day. Food is fair. Check in listed at 2:30pm but was not given a room until 3pm.

I don’t know how to explain how bad was almost everything. The room was dirty, you could see nails from previous guests all around the console.
The safe box was not working.
The fridge in the room was super dirty.
Towels were not clean.
Bathroom was very old and not that clean.
The AC was not cooling the room at all.
And the worst experience was at the check-in time when the lady at reception was so so so rude. We were supposed to check in at 2:30 based on what the Expedia showing us, the receptionist gave us the room key and said go to room and check if it is clean. Yes, she told us to check if the room is cleaned yet or not!!!
We went to the room and guess what, the room was not cleaned yet.
We came down to the reception and told her that the room is not clean, she said ok wait here for 1 hour to send someone to clean the room. I asked her if there is any other room available, the answer was no.
We waited for one hour, then asked her again if the room is available and she said “no”, and told us to wait. I told her that the hotel should have other rooms available and she said there are other rooms available, “but I don’t want to give you any other room”.
Finally, another receptionist, a nice lady, arrived and told her to give us another room. She refused to do that, so the nicer lady resolved the issue herself and gave us another room.

In a rush I booked this hotel, and had only glanced at previous reviews. When I looked into further some of the reviews were not so good and honestly we were a bit nervous about going. On arrival the hotel was a bit run down, and is in need of some updating. Cleanliness was adequate, but we didn’t think as bad as it had been reviewed. We didn’t leave anything valuable in our room, and the hotel was fine for a couple of nights. It was super convenient to walk to the main sites and from the train terminus. We bought a 48 travel pass and our bus to get us across town to watch the football was only 5 mins walk from the hotel. Reception were polite and helpful. I don’t think I would go back, but it was substantially cheaper than other hotels in the area and suited our budget on this occasion.

The location of the hotel was good, close to notable areas such as Trevi Fountain, Colloseum, The Forum, Vatican City and others. The hotel's water boiler failed for 3 out of the 4 days we were there. The hotel staff was not forthcoming about the issues, because twice we were told that it was fixed only to recant their statement once I call them to complain. We asked for the manager several times and they wouldn't even give the name and just kept telling us \"come by at 7 am to speak with the manager\". We left early every morning to visit the city and the tours we scheduled so there was never a good time to speak with the manager. Besides, we are the ones inconvenienced so it should have been the staff making an effort to reach us and not the other way around. I definitely would not stay here again.

I spent 7 nights at Des Epoques and was initially excited by the prospect of staying at this 4 star hotel so close to the city centre. However, it seemed to me very early on that little maintenance or effort is invested into the hotel. Our bathroom tub leaked rivers each time we used it, flooding the bathroom and even leaking into our room. We reported this to the reception but it was not fixed and neither did the hotel offer to swap our room for another. As for the breakfast, it was a meagre fare of cold stale croissants(clearly store bought), watered-down orange juice, packaged biscuits, fruit, and other unfulfilling snacks which I gave up on forcing myself to eat on the third day. Sadly, it was a pre-paid breakfast. On two of the nights, during the early morning hours, construction work at the hotel jarred us awake and another disgruntled customer was faster than I in complaining about the noise which started later so we could sleep in without the rude awakening the next day. Overall, despite the convenient location of the hotel, I would not stay here ever again.

Older Historic Hotel that needs work.

The hotel is in a historic building so I expected an older feel however it’s in need of repair. The WiFi is terrible and good luck with the heaters in the room. Ours was so worn down I had to call maintenance in to work it because I couldn’t tell when was what. The shower was held together with a price of metal, there were dirty and missing tiles in the bathroom and the toilet each day wasn’t being cleaned by the housekeeping staff. Upon booking I requested two beds, apparently I didn’t book a big enough room so they charged me an extra €400 for a room that was big enough but after we checked in there was only one bed. The solution was to split that bed into two making the already small room even smaller.

Most of the staff was pleasant and a few were pretty great however the guy that checked us in and out of the hotel was a complete jerk.

The rooms and hotel were tastefully decorated and clean. The location was good for us, close to restaurants and 20min walk to Roma Termini.

On the flip side the A/C isn't set to blow cold until June but we were given a room with a window facing the street so got some fresh air. There were some minor maintenance issues that were fixed but not jntil day 2 of our stay. The breakfast options were a bit limited (admittedly we've been very spoilt on the holiday up to this point) & could've been hotter.

A little off the beaten track

Lovely hotel a little further outside the actual city centre but easy to reach with a short stroll to the local bus. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Hotel overall was beautiful. I had room 116 which did not have a view at all. I wasn't particularly concerned as I only wanted somewhere clean and comfy to stay and that's what I got. That said this room seemed to have the pipe work for all the toilets in the building running outside the window so it felt as though I heard every toilet flush during the night with a strange cabbage like associated smell. Certainly wasn't bad enough for me to feel the need to complain and request a room change. Breakfast was varied, delicious and plentiful. All in all a lovely place to base myself and as it was a little further out of town it was nice and quiet.

Small and comfortable

For the price this was a really good hotel.
Not in the centre of Rome so you will need to use the local buses or taxi to get around.
Buy the bus/metro map as soon as you can to help find your way around.
Bus stops are right outside the door and will take you to Termini/station, Villa Borghese, Colloseum, and Vatican areas.
Rooms were really comfortable and had good size powerful shower.
All of the hotel was spotlessly clean and the breakfast choice was very good, including eggs, meat, cheese, loads of different breads/croissants, cereal and yoghurt, fresh fruit and more.
Reception helped me print the evoucher tickets for the skip the line experiences which was really good of them.

Truly disappointing

Location = Very Good ; Hotel Appearance = Very good ; Front Desk = tried to help out ; COMFORT LEVEL = extremely disappointing; this is NOT a 4 star hotel, NOT EVEN a 3 star hotel. The air conditioning was not working; they tried to fix the problem with a portable fan. The breakfast room staff was not pleasant and I speak Italian - The maid service would not replace soap or number of towels (2) that I had requested. The refrigerator was leaking. One could smell cigarette smoking in the room, that is, either they do not enforce the no-smoking rule or staff member/s smoked. Most scary of all is that they DO NOT have stairs/escape route in case of an emergency - you have to take the old elevator up and down the building. In my view, this is a major violation safety code. First time in my many visits to Italy that I felt truly disappointed.

Pretty hotel, very poorly maintained

We booked a superior double room, it was quite small and then we found ants in the bed and on the floor. We got upgraded to a triple room which still wasn't huge. We stayed there for 2 night and then had a leak in the bathroom ceiling that was dripping everywhere so we got upgraded again to a suite. It was a shame because the rest of the holiday was lovely. Breakfast wasn't great. The room wasn't cleaned very well either. A lot of the restaurants and things near the hotel had closed down.

Nice and clean hotel, good for a short stay

Stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. Our bed was big enough and comfortable, bathroom was clean, though rather small. The shower head was broken and leaking so we asked for it to be fixed however this wasn't done. Instead of letting this to ruin our stay we have decided to let it go and - as there were two shower heads - so we used the other one! :-)
The room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated however wardrobe was non existent! We had to keep our clothes in our bags. Free bottle of wine was on the offer when we booked the room but we had to ask twice to get it. WiFi is free but very slow.
Breakfast was basic but we knew what to expect, however it would do with more variety and also fresh cut fruit i.e watermelon, grape etc and more types of tea (I was missing earl grey). Metro is just 6-7 minutes walk, bus stop just outside the hotel. If you don't mind walking then main attractions are about 30 minutes away and some nice buildings to see around as well as other surprises along the way as you walk - we have discovered great basilicas that you would never hear of in any guide :-) and lovely little restaurants. Overall nice hotel and good location for us :-)

Nice hotel close to most Rome attractions

Good location, within a 30-min walk to Colosseum, Trevi fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Square, Piazza Navona... We were 3 adults and had a comfortable and clean Junior Suite. The hotel decor is nice and adds to the overall Rome experience. The staff is very helpful with any advices and suggestions you may need. Breakfast was basic, but with everything needed for a good start of the day - pastries, fruits, cereals, eggs, sausage, ham, cheese, yogurt, selection of breads, jam, juices, coffee, tea, cakes, etc.
The only downside is that there is no hotel parking; however, there is a guarded indoor parking 5 min walk/drive from the hotel (3 eur/hr, 30 eur/day) that the staff will direct you to. There is a place for short-stay (5 min) parking by the entrance for loading/unloading.
I would stay again and would recommend this hotel to all.

Very good hotel. The room was spacious and clean. The staff was friendly and always had someone there who understood English. The hotel is located in a relatively quiet neighborhood away from the throngs of tourist but still within easy walking distance to some sights. My only critique was that the shower was cramped and not easy to maneuver in. In their defense though we find this to be a norm in a lot of hotels in Europe. Small and cramped showers.

Little Jewel on Via Nomentana in Roma!!

This is a Great little boutique hotel. Within walking distances to all historic sites. The hotel is very ornate and the breakfast room is like sitting in a little cathedral. Gold columns and curved arches. Very nicely furnished and very reasonably priced breakfast. Some of the rooms are a little on the small size but that is very common in Europe in general. Would I stay here again? You bet!! In a heart beat!!!
As a matter of fact I have booked it again after my tour of Italy the night before I leave for the long flight back home to Canada!!
I highly recommend this hotel!!!

Functional but not mind blowing

Basic necessities. Room Is pretty tight. Had a weird smell upon entering but once the air conditioning is on, it's good. Hotel needs a refresh (at least fresh paint).

Room gets cleaned well daily and heating works well (a must during cold months).

The location is ideal given the bus stop in front of the hotel. Usual cost to get to the airport is around 50 Euro.

Breakfast is at 7 Euro. Very basic but good enough to kickstart your day.

Staff is very nice and supportive.

At best a 3 star hotel with a gaudy facade to the lobby and basement dining room. Things that have brocken look to stay broken, including the rooftop dining terrace that may or may not ever get fixed. However, not too bad a choice for a short stay in Rome, even if a little out of the way of the central attractions. Just make sure that you only consider the \"superior\" rooms. For the cheapest rooms you would have the joy of a window looking into a small and bleak fire escape well; not for anyone but the most desperate.

Charming roof garden to relax and enjoy your own food and drink. Staff very helpful and professional without going overboard, they waited for your question and were able to provide the answer on each occasion which is better than \"can I help and I'll just ask my colleague\" which sadly reflects my normal experience. Breakfast was also non pressured and you were able to take everything at your own pace with additional items put out as things ran low, everything was fresh, however it is impossible to enjoy a good cup of tea without boiling water. On the whole, great staff, comfortable accommodation and a relaxing time had by all.

Positives: beautiful stylish hotel with a pleasant sun terrace on the roof , not to big or busy and immaculatly clean. Negatives: Breakfast buffet had no bacon. Triple room a bit cramped not really ment to house third bed but functional. No drink making facilities .Pretty far out of the centre costs 15 euros in taxi.

A lovely hotel with friendly staff. When our luggage was lost in transit the staff were very helpful.
Room & bathroom were beautifully decorated.
Breakfast was included in our booking & we enjoyed the variety.
Great location to catch local buses & we discovered a handful of great restaurants within walking distance.

Rome was a great place to visit. The food was gorgeous, the hotel was beautiful and the sites to see were better than I thought. Both Rome, and this hotel, are definitely worth going to, the hotel decor of marble and gold makes anyone feel like royalty, and although Rome is fast paced, it's not as overwhelming as London for example, coming from someone who lives in Devon.

Recommended after a 2 night stay

Had a great stay at this hotel - stayed 2 nights whilst in Rome. Staff were very helpful and the location for all sites is ideal. Only rated the room down slightly because it says there is tea/coffee making facilities in the room - there isn't, but if you ask at reception then you get a tray with everything you need - just so others know. Would highly recommend a stay here.

lovely confortable hotel

we walked out each day to explore Rome and only caught one bus (to the Vatican. Within easy reach of everything else and the hotel was fabulously decorated with artwork and marble. They also did a good breakfast each morning. Thank you

Pretty hotel in nice neighborhood in Rome

The staff and hotel were very nice. The hotel seemed a bit far from Centro Storico on the map, but we found it very pleasantly walk able. Actually Rome is surprisingly very walk able and the buses, after a long day, are easy to travel on. Our room was pretty and quiet but we could see how it could be noisy in busy season. All in all, a very pleasant 7 day stay.

Beautiful luxury Suite. Bed very comfortable. Room very opulent and comfortable.
The breakfast was a bit lacking - very basic choice.
Staff friendly and very helpful.
The safe didn't work in our room.

Nice hotel for a few days city break

A nice little hotel with everything needed for a few days stay in Rome. The room was of an adequate size and perfectly functional for a few days sight seeing. There is a but stop within 50m and the metro/train is only a short walk away.

This was a most accommodating hotel! Staff was ultra helpful. Breakfast buffet was wonderful with good selection. They responded quickly and warmly to all requests. Truly one of the best experiences I have had in all of Europe.

Walkable distance near termini station, I love to walk so i went walking all the way to the vatican, it took me like 1.5 hour, but I think is the best way to really know a city.

Nice location in the financial district

Hotel was in quieter location with really good restaurants on its doorstep. Easy access to city centre by bus or train . Hotel itself was adequate for our needs. Room pretty basic , toilet seat needed replacing, shower boasted additional massage and jet sprays but couldn't manage to work them . I booked twin room but hotel had allocated double . They were quick to separate beds to make twins which was fine
