The staff alone is enough to stay at this reasonably priced and very clean accommodation in Rome. Close to the city train station, it’s ideal for travelers moving around. Can walk to most major sights easily.

We got the quadruple room at the hotel. Room was right next to the street and there was traffic noise throughout the night. It was like sleeping on the street. For A/c you have to pay extra. For towel change pay extra. Free Wi-Fi wasn't working and the staff said there was no plan to fix it. Overall, one of the worst hotel experiences. There was virtually no space in the shower to hang the towel. it was so small. Same with the washroom. I don't think a large person would be able to turn around. I will recommend to pay little bit more and find a better hotel.

Great little hotel

Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Appreciated the free luggage storage the day we checked out so we could do more exploring without having to carry our bags. Community kitchen available for use. There is a little street noise at night but it wasn't anything intolerable. Don't forget to bring a little cash for the tourism tax for the room. Overall we were very impressed and would definitely recommend!

Excellent for the price, very kind workers!

The place is very good for me, near Termini but at the same time not so crowded. The girls who work there are very friendly and they go a long way to make me feel very comfortable. It is clean. The neighborhood is very safe. I love that I know each corner. By the way: you can walk to all tourist attractions from here. ALL of them. I am remaining with walking to the Vatican on my next trip.

The hospitality of staff was great, they recommended us places to visit, but the room they asigned to us was in from of some main street, in the night was so noisy and no air conditioner, so we have to open the windows. We stayed three nights, and they changed once the towels. They have a kitchen and that’s a good point if you don’t want to spend money eating outside and buy your own stuff.

The reviews we read of this property under-reported it's unappealing qualities. It was not just \"inexpensive\", it was the worst place we stayed and I would never recommend it. The neighborhood was not as nice as I would have liked. It was the only time in Rome that I saw a RAT outside! My first feeling of concern was when we checked in. (Let me say that the staff were very nice. I had no concerns with them.) Unfortunately, the hotel has no \"lobby\" to speak of. It's office is a walk-down room, about 2 doors down from the entrance to our room. To get to our room, there was a large locked door that led into a smaller hallway with another locked door. It was pitch-black with a light that turned on with motion for about 10 seconds. A young man took us to our room, where we had two small single beds, one outlet, a tiny bathroom with no place to hang our toiletries bags or towels, and a radiator that turned on at 6 pm and barely kept the room warm.
There was only one pillow per bed, and when I asked for extra, it seemed an imposition. Furthermore, the linens on the beds were unacceptable. There were cheap covers on top, and underneath were two mismatched blankets. My husband's bed had an old comforter that literally looked like something I would give away at a garage sale for a pet bed. My bed had an old wool blanket that was too short for the bed. Also, my sheets had marks on them (probably stains). The back of the door looked like it had been kicked in and then badly repaired.

Good location, five minute walk to termini. Room was very basic, I asked for clean towels and I was told we only change them every three days, not good when you shower daily. The bathroom looked old and the shower head had fell off a bracket so you had to hold it to shower but it was hard to wash your hair like that. There was a tv on the wall but it was the size of a shoebox

I don’t know why they even call it a hotel that is not a hotel just a place to sleep take a shower and leave the pictures are not real very noisy street. If you are lucky the bathroom is inside the bedroom but you have a chance that you will have to walk to the bathroom didn’t like it at all

Great accomodation and good value

Hotel Il Papavero was the perfect Rome accomodation for my boyfriend and I. Being located near the train (including express train to the airport) and a short walk to the Metro was a bonus along with 24hour reception and luggage minding services meant no wasted time with suitcases. The room itself had a private bathroom (where the shower leaked) and a balcony as well as a large and comfortable bed. As the weather was very hot the standing fan was essential to make up for no air-conditioner. Overall a comfortable stay that was a more private alternative to hostels at a competitive cost.

The hotel is in a good location with restaurants and minimarkets close by. 25 minute walk to some main tourist attractions, there is a stop for the tourist buses and public transport about a 5 minute walk away. For the price of the room, it was acceptable. The bed was very comfortable. The shower didn't drain properly it took about 5 minutes meaning you had to turn the shower off half way through your shower to let it drain. Otherwise it would overflow and there were no bath mats provided which made this very dangerous. There was a slight leak from the toilet. Our room had a door out to a balcony although this couldn't be left open as there was scaffolding on it and people could get in, which didn't make us feel safe. The front door is very difficult to open. Other than this we had a good stay.

The hotel is great for what you pay for. The bed was pretty comfortable and it wasn’t that hot even though it was July. The only thing that bothered us was the alarm that was going on and off numerous times trough one night so we couldn’t get much sleep.

İt smelled curry..and the heating was shut down...

The city tax should be included in the price or never be taken by the hotels always paying something extra seems to be a habbit these years in tourism industry.Anyway they where kind of crazy for getting it right away even when i told them i had no cash only card and this tax appearently could be only paid cash??? Why if tax is on creditcard slip indicated and with cash not? So i think it was in the price included expedia charged but they try to have a little extra ? Am i wrong with this ? İm not sure but its just a blurry price policy then.The room smelled curry from the first day on and the blankets kind of 10 years old so i dont know what survived in it all these years.After midnight often after 22.00 (and from 20.00 switched on)they switched off the heating.Midday they turned it on for a couple of hours as well but had no pattern.Turning off the heating in winter at night made me sick and im still recovering i left the hotel one day earlier because i was so sick and didnt want to become it worse.Overall im angry and expect expedia as well to cover the citytax cause on their page it said all fees included. And a citytax wasnt mentioned or at least i shall get a receit for this paid tax with which i should get back the tax from customs clearence ,shouldnt i ones i leave the country? Wow, never ever in this hotel ill stay again !! i really booked last minute but that it would be so bad i couldnt have ever imagined.They transfer you to the airport by saying no taxi necessary.

You get what you pay for.

It was a cheap room, I get it but the toilet was dirty, I do expect not to have to clean the toilet from a previous occupant. Obviously, I'm not the first person who had to do that considering there's a toilet brush in the bathroom. You also need to take stairs to get to the lobby and different stairs to get to the elevator. When carrying 2 suitcases, this is an issue. Next time I will pay a little more for a lot more value.

This is a good, safe hotel in a great location. For the price it is excellent. Staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and the two rooms I stayed in were comfortable, quiet, and cleaned daily. I would stay here again, and recommend it to friends. This hotel is excellent value for Rome.

Pros: The accommodation was fine and in a decent part of the city. It is about 5 minutes walk from Termini and in a quiet street at night. Staff were lovely and the room was cleaned each day with new towels laid out. Water pressure and temperature were fine, but a little iffy on one of the days.

Cons: Booked a double room but it was two singles pushed together with bunkbeds in the corner and other temporary beds built into a unit as well that could be pulled out. The room was clean however under the bed was not and the bedside locker had not been cleaned as there was a water bottle and cardboard from underwear from a previous guest in it. Wifi was atrocious and could only work in one small spot of the room, even then it was great and kept cutting out.

Hotel il papavero was pretty good, the biggest downfall for us was the fact that the wifi did not work in our room and we were kicked out of the hotel lobby which is a little down the street at 1:30am where wifi was available. Also we were woken up by the house cleaners who were shouting/talking to each other in Italian right outside our door. We were given a shared bathroom with the room of 4 next to us as well, we didn't have a private bathroom which is annoying when you are paying for a private room in a hotel. Otherwise the location was pretty good and most of our needs were met.

Very good if your expectations are not too high.

The staff is mostly helpful and kind but can at times be low spirited. The (matrimonial) room was comfy, very clean and decently furnished (see the room's photo with the big red bedhead). However, the setting is a bit funny. The hotel's reception is in a cellar (no lift). The room was around the corner in another house, in a (decently) converted apartment. Second floor, again no lift. The surrounding of the Hotel has an intercultural character of the shady kind. You find a 24h Minimarket grocery store nearby. Don't eat at nearby \"La Famiglia\" after 22:00 h ! Our experience was unpleasant. Don't go to the old-school \"La Pasticcheria\" on the place in front of the station to the right side, as it is ridiculously overpriced and waiters are hesitant to give due change, as they seem inclined to keeping the change as self-imposed tips. A plus of the hotel is the walking distance to the Termini station.

Average hotel - quite pricy for what you get

Room very basic and old, and they would often forget to replace towels. Offer free wifi but this only worked properly in the hallway, do not pay for it if not free. The walls a very thin and you can hear the other guests very clearly. Only good thing is ok location to trains and walking distance to main attractions.

In a city where prices of hotels and hostels are generally very expensive, Hotel Papavero actually gives a decent price and accommodates you very well. The best part is that it is right by Termini station as well, which is very convenient when doing a day trip, taking a metro, or getting to and from the airport

This hotel is right between Termini and Republica station, about a good 15 minute walk. Some resturants around the hotel stay open until around 10 but if you walk towards Termini you will find others that are open later. The lift doesnt work on the first few floors so make sure you are able to carry your luggage. The room is tiny and the bed is uncomfortable. It is practically a hostel for the price of a hotel...actually I've stayed in better hostels in Rome. We asked if we could check out later (because we arrived at 11pm that night) and they refused. There is, however, a luggage storage on the first floor that is open to everyone, unsecured. For the wifi, they give you a log in slip, one per room that is good for only one device, for how many hours I forget...the strength is pretty weak too.

Over all I wouldn't stay here again.

The staff was very friendly upon our arrival, and they provided us with all the necessary information we needed to reach and get around the city. However, they do not provide wi-fi in the rooms, and you must be in the reception area to receive it (plus you must pay a fee). It is fairly close to the main station and a few other metro stops, but it is at least a half an hour walk to the main sights in Rome (Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, etc.).

The breakfast was very nice. It was very simple with a drink of your choice and a pastry, but just perfect for starting out the day. It is probably not somewhere I would stay again, but it is not horrible by any means.

This hotel gets top marks for

This hotel gets top marks for location. It's very close to the train stations (subway and long distance) and to the bus stops. The 'must-visit' sites are therefore within easy reach.
The rooms are adequately furnished, neat and well maintained - sheets, towels are provided. These are changed once in 3 days or so (if you stay that long or longer).
The staff are helpful with information, and friendly.
On the downside -
The breakfast provided is more in name than in spread - one croissant and a cup of beverage, at a neighbouring bistro. Not enough for the average sight-seer!
There is no free wifi. Access (round the clock) to the internet is available only at a room next to reception, and a charge is collected(1 euro an hour on their computer, or 1 euro for 24 hrs on own laptop).
I would give it 7 on a scale of 10.

HORRIBLE - NO A/C - RUDE STAFF

My stay at this hotel was HORRIBLE. I was put in a room in a separate building. The room had NO Air Conditioner, no phone, and no Wifi. There was Wifi in the lobby but it broke down by the 2nd day I was there. The \"Breakfast Included\" offer is a scam, just one croissant and one hot drink. There was an AC unit in my room so I asked the front desk to turn it on but I was told they do not run it till end of June and that it needed to be serviced. I suspect that they were just being cheap. I went to check out early because of there being no AC and the guy at the desk told me it was an extra 5 Euros but then when I showed him that it was supposed to be included he was going to give me the remote but I was already fed up with them and wanted to leave. They would not offer any refund for the inconvenience. Very rude staff. Also, the key to the room was an old style colonial key so it would have opened up another room in my hallway. You are only given one key so I had to leave the key with my wife so she could lock the door when I left the room, but I was locked out because of it. There is no phone or alarm clock in the room so there is no way to schedule a wake up time. Bathroom is very small too! DO NOT STAY HERE! [...]

Top 7 Reasons NOT to stay in this hotel:

1. Very rude, unhelpful staff
2. Run-down room
3. Smallish-bathroom
4. No amenities whatsoever (soap was given only on the first day of a five-day stay!)
5. Air-conditioning cost extra 5 Euro per night!
6. Location not as close to Termini station as described

Room crowded with furniture but very clean. We had a balcony overlooking a courtyard where we enjoyed a little wine at the end of the day. Staff are friendly, helpful. Most comfortable mattress ever. Located a couple of blocks from the Diocletian Baths,National Museum, subway, bus, & train station (Termini). Colosseum is 1 hour walk or 20 minutes on subway. All other major sites easily reached by bus or metro. Breakfast is coffee & croissant but at least it gets you started.

Unbeatable location for the price

We loved the location - 5 minutes to the metro at Piazza de Republica, 10 minutes to Termini Station - 5 minutes to Conad grocery store - many pizzarias and trattorias nearby. The friendly staff were extremely helpful with directions.
We stayed in a room (around the corner) with a different street entrance from the reception area, it was extremely quiet and safe. Reception is up one flight of stairs and quite small - don't plan to camp out in that area! We liked the location and service so much will stay there again when we return to Rome in a week before flying home.
The cup of coffee and croissant (served across the street in a coffee shop) are a quick way to start the day before stopping for pastries, pizza and gelato as we visited all of the highlights of Rome. For the price this place can't be beat....

Good Value-Small, Clean, Friendly staff

Location was good. Approx. ten minute walk to train station which was also same location for hop on/hop off bus tour that cost $30USD for two day pass.

Room was extremely small, but clean.

Price was cheap.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Front desk arranged taxi pickup for us to airport. Front desk also personally knocked on your door for wakeup call.

Wireless internet service was not available during stay, however it was being hooked up when we were there.

Did not have anything stolen, however was somewhat paranoid about security as doors contained skeleton key locks.

I would definetely recommend this hotel room to someone that is looking for clean room for cheap price.

Great location especially if you are flying into Ciampino Airport or travelling into the main train station. Eásy to walk to sights even with children. Hotel room was basic buit clean and warm. No kettle, but bar over road did great coffee you could take back. This bar doubled as the breakfast room which was great. Little bit of a maze from one building to the next but that made it even more of an adventure. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

[...] The night shift guy was also a little odd. On the other hand, the lady who didn't speak much English was very nice. On the upside, our rooms were very nice and cleaned every day with fresh towels daily as well. Located between Termini Station and an amazing restaurant that serves over 80 kinds of home made pasta!

1st time in Europe

Private bath, helpful staff, clean room!

Very simple room facing back of next building, this hotel shares spaces with several businesses. The room was small but comfortable, as was expected for the price we paid. Served in the cafe across the street, \"breakfast\" consists of coffee and 1 croissant. That said, the staff was very helpful and kept the place clean, and the private bathroom is a welcome luxury that one can hardly find for as low as we spent, so we were very happy!

The room was very small, and cramped....the toilet was hard to sit on as cramped in the corner of the bathroom.....it was also rather noisy early in the morning with a restaurant nearby.
The receptionist was pleasant and very helpful with places to go, transport to use etc.
It is very handy to the Termini train station.

Quaint and great value for location

We were looking for a hotel to stay for a night by the train station before our flight the next morning. We found the hotel easily-- it was in a quaint building about 5-10 minutes walk from the train station, and we were let in through the buzzer. There is an elevator in the building, but I think it's for residences only, as it required a key. We climbed up one floor to the reception area on the right, which was tiny. The hosts (father and daughter) were helpful in providing us a map and restaurant recommendations. We received a breakfast voucher for Bar 23, which is to the right outside the hotel, for a hot drink (coffee, etc), and a pastry. The rooms are on the same floor, and I felt secure, as there a key into the hotel area and another key into the room itself. The room was very clean and efficient, and it had high ceilings, so it didn't feel cramped. No ac, but a fan-- which worked fined for May. There was a wardrobe, a desk, side tables with reading sconces right above, and our double room had two twin beds placed together. The furniture does not look beaten-up as some other places we have stayed at. You entered the included bathroom through a folded screen. The bathroom is very small (shower stall only), but it was brightly lit. We were provided a plastic cup, towels, soap, and shampoo (no hair conditioner, but that seems to be the norm in the other hotels we stayed at. It would be nice, though.) I was pleasantly surprised to see a hair dryer attached to the wall. The hotel was not fancy, but everything worked and it was clean.

one step above

this hotel was advertised as two stars but they claimed, when I went for towels, that they were only one star and you only get towels every other day. There was no elevator working, our room was in a seperate building, the walls were not finished to the ceiling and our neighbors lovemaking was too close for comfort. This place is one step above a hostel.

Hotellet lå meget centralt og der var rent og pænt på værelset.

Det var lidt slidt, og det kunne godt føles lidt dyrt i forhold til standen.

Personalet var super venlige og hjælpsomme og det var alt i alt et hæderligt sted.

Jeg ville nok hellere give lidt mere og få lidt højere comfort.

ホテルのロビーから外に出て数十メートル歩いた先に部屋があります。
部屋は普通のアパートの中にあり、鍵が3つもあるので非常に面倒です。
また私の部屋はwifiが使えなかったので、わざわざロビーまで行かなければなりませんでした。
タオルは複数泊しても最初に置いてあったバスタオル一枚以外もらえることはありません。
シャワーとトイレの間にカーテンも何もないので、シャワーするとバスルーム全体がびしょ濡れになります。
そしてエアコンがありません。

安宿なのでこんなもんだろうと割り切れる人には問題無いと思います。

La estancia es en una habitación en un piso en otra ubicación que no corresponde con la del hotel, en ocasiones no descansamos correctamente porque los otros huéspedes hacían mucho ruido al entrar y tiraban las puertas, la ducha estaba tapada entonces se inundaba y era muy feo, en cuanto a la ubicación era buena cerca a restaurantes, tiendas y demás.
Sería mucho mejor si colocaran aire acondicionado dormir esta semana fue fatal con el calor que hacía en roma, no cambian toallas diariamente y no hay sitio para tenderlas entonces al segundo día ya apestaban pero solo la cambiaban cada 3 días según la administración fatalisimo... no hay cómo contactar al personal del hotel de ningún modo a veces estaba cerrada la puerta donde queda el hotel y no pudimos solicitar lo que necesitamos como 1 toalla adicional pues la reserva era para 4, pero solo colocaron 3 toallas.

Personnel extrêmement agréable et serviable, efforts pour que le client soit heureux, attention, etc. Chambre propre, équipements en parfait état, en particulier l'accès internet. Emplacement excellent, assez loin de la gare pour ne pas subir les vendeurs louches et les odeurs d'urine, mais accès quand même à de nombreux réseaux de transport.
Dommage, comme ça m'est déjà arrivé à Rome, que ce ne soit pas un vrai hôtel, mais un ensemble de chambres dans un immeuble d'habitation : pour moi, les fenêtres des voisins à juste 4 mètres.

Hotel com valor bom, porém tivemos que tomar banho frio por dias, reclamamos e nem deram atenção para consertar e Roma estava muito frio teve dias de 5 a 8 graus.
Ficamos 6 dias e nenhum dia trocaram as roupas de cama. Quando fizemos a reclamação eles alegam que o valor no hoteis.com é de hostel, porém nao concordo uma vez que ficamos em outro em Roma bem melhor e praticamente mesmo valor! Não indicamos este hotel.

L'hotel Papavero è situato in ottima posizione a meno di dieci minuti a piedi dalla stazione Termini. La zona è tranquilla e intorno si trovano diversi ristoranti. Si tratta di un hotel ad una stella, ma il comfort è elevato e le pulizie vengono svolte quotidianamente. La struttura non offre la colazione ma vi sono delle macchinette erogatrici vicino alla reception. Da segnalare la cortesia del personale.

Были в отеле в ноябре 2019 три ночи . Отличный отель для бюджетных туристов ! Отзывчивый и приятный персонал . В отеле есть общая кухня с чайником и микроволновкой и необходимой посудой , где в случае необходимости , можно подогреть купленные блюда в супермаркете в 10 мин ходьбы от отеля . Чай и кофе 0,8 центов из автомата на рецепции . Стойка регистрации работает 24 часа в сутки .Тихое место в 500 метрах от вокзала Термини и метро . В пешей доступности большинство достопримечательностей . Прямая линия метро ( 4 остановки) до Ватикана .
Мебель в номере старая , но все чисто . Сантехника работала хорошо . Горячая вода всегда была . Было мыло , шампунь и ФЕН!
В номерах хорошо работал wi fi ( бесплано) :)
