We had a wonderful experience at the hotel! Everyone was so willing to help us with planning and accommodations. Cool things to note is that there is a little private area by the water you can swim (they have noodles!) in addition to the pool. They also help coordinate water taxis that can pick you up from Positano and drop you off directly back at the hotel. The hotel is close to the marina which is great if you’re doing a day trip somewhere. We also chose to hike the Path of the Gods and the hotel was a great starting point for the more difficult hike that started at the base of Praiano (look at All-Trails app for paths). Not to mention the hotel made a reservation for us and dropped us off at the restaurant. All around - the staff was great and we would recommend!

It’s a beautiful property. We just visited and the season is nearly over so we were not able to use the pool or the grotto. The breakfast was very nice and you could ask for made to order eggs, fresh juice and coffee. We had amazing massages outside on a terrace arranged by the staff. They also went out of their way to help us with our private transfers. It was so peaceful, It felt like a true slice of paradise!

HVMP was a 10/10 experience for my husband and I on our honeymoon. We were welcomed by the staff with smiles and pure friendliness. The property was just gorgeous. Our room was clean upon arrival and freshened up every single day for us. The breakfast was amazing, with staff ready to make any coffee beverage you’d like. Praiano was the perfect place to be with the hotel located right at a bus stop, it was easy to travel to Positano! We are going to miss beautiful Praiano and HVMP, but we will be back!

This hotel was in a fantastic location and operated by a fantastic staff! They made our vacation a beautiful experience by booking and accommodating all our dinners and activities! Walking distance to the best beach and restaurants. Right in the middle of the coastline and so easy to get everywhere. And yet very peaceful for a great relaxed stay! I absolutely loved this location I spent a lot of time researching what area and place to stay and I am so glad I chose here! The staff were so accommodating and helped book all my reservations and transportations. The location was perfect next to the beach, great restaurants and view was amazing. The family and staff at Hotel Villa Maria Pia were excelente and wonderful. We especially enjoyed swimming in the cave right below the villa. I recommend taking the walk to the marina and enjoying the scenery there as well. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.

We enjoyed our stay . The staff were pleasant and extremely helpful. Breakfast was delicious. Our was big and the view of the coast from our room was magical . The bartender at the bar is so pleasant and helped us out a lot his drinks were also so good. The hotel is about a 20 min drive to Positano and Amalfi . The walk to the beach is about 8 mins and there are 2 restaurant options by the beach which were good

We loved staying at Maria Via Pia! It’s away from the crowds at Positano & Amalfi but close enough (10 min to Positano and 20 to Amalfi). We walked to the the famous Fiorde de Furore, rented Vespas to drive to Rovello and Minori. It’s was so nice to come back to a quiet place to relax, the breakfast was great and we had some great cocktails with Nicoli after a long day. The private boat transfer was also soooo convenient from the dock at Maria Via Pia! A perfect place to stay on the water, to relax and see the Amalfi coast!!! I’d highly recommend it!!!

So this is the only hotel that has steps down to the water where boats and boat taxis can pick you up. 10 feet from this platform there is a cave and grotto big enough for boats to go inside. And is right there for you. We stayed in room 14 which is close to the water. Request rooms down below as there are about 4 of them. Stay here.

The best thing about this hotel was the helpful staff. They arranged transportation and gave us useful tips on getting around in the area. The chef came out and customized a meal for us. That extra attention to detail and the beautiful view made our stay fantastic!

Extremely uncomfortable bed with a plastic, wrinkled mattress cover. Inadequate poor quality blankets. Breakfast was ok but many items were processed and not fresh like juices and baked goods. Did not like the only available milk being pamalait lactose free. But very nice, friendly staff and intimate atmosphere. Beware as there are many many steps approx 200 to the private dock and most days there the water was too rough to contemplate getting in the water there. Pool is very small and I would categorize it as a dipping pool.
Parking is tough in the area and expensive. We didn’t like the food in the whole area- very overpriced, heavy complicated tourist fare. In short food was a disappointment. Views from hotel are very nice (as expected). Probably an ok value of the all overpriced hotels in the area. Anywhere else I would give the hotel 2 stars and not stay there.

We had a suite. This suite had only outside access with 52 steps. We were not notified of this in advance. Room was lovely.
They have a bar and breakfast area that doubles as a restaurant as well. There is what I believe is family in there at all times over the 4 nights we were there. They were either playing cards, eating or talking. It was very unprofessional. Family stayed in suite above us and were arguing late into the night a couple times. Nix the bartender was excellent. Room did not get cleaned one day and had to ask a second time to get it done. Yes they apologized but it didn’t feel sincere. And I shouldn’t have had to ask twice.
I’d say family business is trying but need to step up for the rates they charge.

The location was great. Couldn’t ask for better access to the water. The staff was unbelievable. They met our every need and we’re happy to do it. Would highly recommend for a laid-back vacation. There’s a bus stop right at the entrance to the hotel, which makes it convenient once you figure out the bus schedule.

Great stay hated to leave

We had a great stay at Hotel Villa Maria Pia. My wife said it was the nicest hotel room she had ever stayed at. Comfortable bed great view. The room was in excellent condition and very clean.
The staff was excellent and they went above and beyond to help us with planning. They even picking us up from the bus stop when we got of at the wrong stop. Tip the busses do not stop at every stop. So press the stop button before you reach your stop.
Love this hotel would definitely stay there again.

This stay was amazing for my honeymoon. We wanted to stay close to Positano without the crowds and stairs. This location was incredible, the property was beautiful and quiet and the staff was so friendly. I would recommend this place to everyone. The breakfast exceeded my expectations, i stuffed my face every morning. The restaurant was tasty, only ate there once and ordered the eggplant parmigiana and a pizza- both delicious. You access the property from the main road- no stairs required. If you want to swim in the ocean it’s about 100ish steps down to the bottom where there’s a ladder. Once you’re in the water you’re able to access a grotto- it’s really stunning and so neat. Off the main road is a 2 minute walk to another set of stairs that gets you access to a couple very cute restaurants (we reccomend Il Pirata for day beds and also dinner) as well as another beach with a couple rentals for kayaks and paddle boards. We didn’t venture out much past this beach, “Maria di Praia” but if you can i would go see Fiordo di Furore. We took a water taxi from the hotels beach access to Positano for a day trip it was only €40, we even decided to trek down with our suitcases and take a water taxi to the ferry port to head to Capri next. The room was very clean, had so much charm and comfortable enough for my husband and I. Only heads up is the showers here are very small, but there’s nothing wrong with that! If you book you will really enjoy your stay. Thank you Villa Maria Pia!

From the moment we walked in we felt so much at home. The staff was incredibly kind and responsive and the room we had was like a slice of heaven with a king size bed, state of the art bathroom and shower with a private balcony with an incredible view of the coast line just over the grotto the property was over.

I travel a lot and this is by far one of the best if not the best hotel experience. This is a multigenerational family business and I felt being treated like family as well.

We cannot say enough good things about this hotel and recommend a stay here if you get the chance. In Praiano, so not as busy. Service, rooms, views were incredible. It is situated on a cliff so multi-level and many stairs! But, well worth it! Took a water taxi to Positano, which is the best way to go - about 15 minutes. But, MANY stairs to get down to landing.

Great Hotel, Let them park the car

The stay was lovely, we were a little early in the season so the pool was not filled up, which was a shame as it meant that guests went elsewhere in the day. We stayed two nights, went to sleep with the sound of the sea, had great breakfasts, and the staff were amazing.

Great choice for a place to stay

We stayed for 4 nights and arrived by car
Staff was welcoming and answered all of our questions and also offered tips on how to get around and places to eat

The hotel works with several restaurants and they provide rides to those restaurants

Bed was comfortable but not amazing
Water stream in the shower was quite weak
The room itself was big and the view is breathtaking. Breakfast in the morning was not so good but it wasn’t enough to bother us.
Location is really good just a 15 minute Vespa and we were where we wanted to be

Overall great experience

Ps I ended up forgetting a bag and they found it and had no problem shipping it back to me

The property had direct access to the water, though there are MANY steps to reach it. Families with older folks, children, of those with difficultly walking may not find this property suitable. However, this is true with much of the Amalfi Coast...towns such as Minori or Maiori may be better options.
While we didn't spend much time in the hotel room, the television literally never worked...the signal would go in and out, or it wouldn't turn on at all. Again, not the point of the vacation, but it would have been nice to be able to use it while we were in the room.

This is a very nice family owned and run hotel. It’s situated mid way between Positano and Amalfi. High above the sea with steps down to a small area where you can access the sea. There are several very good restaurants nearby that offer a free car collection service. The bus stops outside the hotel for easy trips along the Amalfi Coast. Fantastic views.

We loved this property! The view from our room and the public areas was just perfect! Before arriving at the Villa Maria Pia (September 2018), we had been touring around Italy for about a week and a half. We were more than ready for a little R&R and that's exactly what we enjoyed at the Villa Maria Pia. In fact, we didn't even leave the property the first day and a half except to take in the immediate vicinity. Then, when we were ready to venture out again, we took the SITA bus to Amalfi, then up to Ravello and back again...that was a harrowing experience, but we're glad we did it!

Unfortunately, my husband left his backpack on the over-crowded bus on the way back to Villa Maria Pia and we never thought we'd see it again. But when we told Vincenzo what had happened, he kicked into action and contacted someone he knew that worked with SITA. Within 24 hours, they had the backpack and all its contents back at the hotel! Nothing short of miraculous I would say! We had already checked out and were on our way back to Rome when Katia let us know the back had been found. She was extremely efficient and very kind to make arrangements to send the backpack to our home in Canada. Now that is going above and beyond! We found the staff very eager to please and we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks for everything!

Amazing setting; hugging the cliff and offering stunning water view from the room; picture perfect Amafi Coast view. The breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed it on the outside patio overlooking the sea. Swimming in the clear water beside the rocky shore was surreal.

This place is a hidden gem. The Almafi coast is about discovering the layers it has. There is so much to do. Be sure to explore below and on top of you. This hotel is situated steps from the Sita Bus (this bus takes into Almafi and Positano)

This is a pretty little hotel,right on the sea and close to the Praiano marina/beach.
There are restaurants close by,the town of Praiano is about a 20 minute walk.
Like anywhere you go on the Amalfi Coast,you must be able to climb steep steps and walk up and down hills,there’s no way around it.
This hotel sits on top of a nice cliff with great views,the staff is excellent and helpful,the rooms are clean-as to be expected,the bathrooms are small and showers are tiny,pretty standard in most hotels we’ve been in.
I would highly recommend staying here if you’re in the Praiano/Positano/Amalfi area..

Breathtaking views and incredible staff

My husband and I stayed here on our recent trip and it is AMAZING. I cannot say enough great things, the staff is so friendly, you can tell it's family owned by the thought that goes into the detail. They truly made our trip incredible with romantic recommendations, tasty wine and champagne and great snacks. I will absolutely stay here again. The location is PERFECT, easy to get everywhere and a great value.

Praiano Location

This hotel is nice and clean and has great views. The ocean view rooms are nice, but do not have balconies that you can sit on. There are a couple sitting areas on different levels and you can go all the way down to a platform by the water. Location is within walking distance to a couple nice restaurants down near the water, but otherwise is a little remote. There is no quaint town that is within walking distance. Although there is a bus stop near the front of the property, taking the bus anywhere is very hectic, crowded and confusing. We took the SITA bus from Sorrento to get there, thinking it stopped in front of the hotel - that was not the case as it apparently was not a \"local\" bus. We ultimately got off and had to walk, with luggage, a good bit to get back to the hotel. The bus ride itself was not for the faint of heart. We should have taken a boat to Positano, then a water taxi Praiano. If you want a \"destination\" hotel that you hide out at for a few days, Hotel Maria Pia is ok, but lacks a nice pool area, so you basically have a couple patios. If you are willing to hop on a water taxi to go to other places for day trips and/or arrange a boat tour, then the hotel is a good choice.

Highlight of our Italian honeymoon

Maria Pia was amazing. They were very accommodating. They got us bus tickets, booked our tours, booked us dinners and gave us recommendations to whatever we had questions to. The location was amazing! Sea view and very quiet. Next to a club but if it was ever loud, closing your windows would block it all out. They even have their own little grotto. Would come here again.

First thing to mention is the hotel staff. Super friendly, kind and gentle hotel staff made our stay amazing.
Everybody was amazing but I should explicitly mention Vincento the hotel owner and Anna. Vincento is super friendly, was always around and always eager to help. He took good care of us. Anna is very pleasant welcoming and beautiful lady which made me feel like home.
I requested room decoration from Vincent for my first night he did a great job. We were offered Italian Proseco once we checked in.

Hotel is location is good, near Afiricano the best night club of the coast. There are stunning views from the hotel rooms , public beach is nearby in walking distance. Prainao is in between Positano and Amalfi which (SITA bus takes you to both in 10 minutes)

I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again in my next visit.

Central location

Great location between Amalfi and Positano. Prices are better because its a smaller town. Very clean rooms, nice helpfull staff. Ita right on the main road so walking to town is a little scary as there are no sidewalks anywhere bet Amalfi and Positano. Overall highly recommend this hotel.

Our family greatly enjoyed our stay here, and we hope to return again one day! The staff went above and beyond - at everything! The room was perfect, the views outstanding, and our children could not get enough swimming in at the bottom of the steps, which kept us parents in shape from after all the food and wine! Being able to swim in the grotto and the bottom of the steps was a real treat. Location was a bit of walk from the center of town, but perfect for public beach access and wonderful restaurants.

Nice place to stay but unexpected parking fee

As stated by other reviewers, the place is very clean and good to stay. It was great to stay at a cliff over nights. The staff was very friendly. But there was unexpected hidden parking fee. When I booked the hotel, the website said parking was included and that was one of the main reasons of choosing this hotel, but when I actually arrived at there, the staff said parking fee of 15 euro per night was required. Because I was busy parking my car, my wife who did not know about the parking fee, said okay to the staff. So we had to pay for it. Despite overall satisfaction about the hotel, the hidden fee ruined the good impression of the hotel.
