Very large property and beautiful grounds. The property is overall pretty well maintained but this is an older resort. The swim up pool rooms were nice and we enjoyed swimming from the room to the larger pools and bars. Plenty of restaurant options but overall the food was 50/50 for us. Some items were pretty good and others were not. Also compared to some other resorts we've stayed at the restaurant staff was a little slower. Overall all resort staff was friendly and helpful. One thing that we thought was missing was a quicker food option during lunch; all of the lunch options we tried were sit down restaurants and sometimes there was a wait. Really all we were looking for was a quick bite so sometimes that made it challenging. Overall a good resort for the money spent; some of the food could be improved upon but the drinks, rooms, staff, and over all property was nice!

Upon coming to the hotel, I was told that they did not recognize Expedia as my company I went through for my reservation. Multiple conversations were had and it never changed. There was no room upgrade. There was no hundred dollar. Credit toward the spa. Despite telling me the whole time that I had no connection to Expedia for my reservation at the very end when I was checking out, I had an employee from the resort say to me that I booked with Expedia when he was attempting to sell me one of their promotions to come back back and stay.

BE CAREFUL. This property will hand you a bill for anything and everything you didn’t agree to before allowing you to leave. Anything you did agree to will be doubled. Then you will be held hostage from your transportation to the airport until you pay whatever they are asking for. Of the last 10 resorts I’ve been to in Mexico the past 10 years this was by far the absolute worst. I wholeheartedly do not recommend. They are thieves.

This is not a 5 star hotel. You can not swim in the sea at this hotel
However, the staff is friendly, the food is good and they have many swimming pools. Rooms are outdated but clean and dark. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and good drinks everywhere!

Beautiful grounds, friendly staff. Confusing and lengthy checkin. Regular “Royale” hotel guests are second class citizens here with respect to pool areas compared to club members or “Cassitas” room guests. The central “Royale” pool area is overcrowded while other restricted areas are under-utilized. The dining reservation system is dysfunctional. Food is OK, with highlights being the Mexican snd Mediterranean restsurants. The worst was the “Japanese” restsurant in Generations hotel—poor service bad food. The room was large but poorly msintained with a broken patio door lock. Room lighting was too dim for normal room activities, it was impossible to read in bed, the brightest light was in the closet.

There were some great things about the resort and some not so great.

Our room was okay but not what you would expect for an upgraded suite. Bathroom tap was ready to fall off, furniture was dirty and rickety and the patio door lock broke when we closed the door. We complained about a really old mattress and they replaced it right away.

The quiet pool wasn't in the best shape, missing tiles, dirty grout. Staff basically ignored the people around the quiet pool and we had to hunt down our own drinks.

There are huge triangular wave breakers in the ocean that really detract from the view. We understood their purposes but it wasn't very attractive.

We weren't aware that the resort was linked to the Casitas Royale and Generations. This needs to be communicated better on the Expedia site. This meant a lot of time spent waiting for golf carts to take you around. It was hard to get a dinner reservation because all guests from all 3 resorts were trying to get spots. We were eating at 9:00 pm some nights - not ideal.

About 80% of the staff were awesome. You could tell the other 20% were fed up with the tourists and guests.

Staff spent a fair bit of time trying to sell you on things. Spa, time share etc. Even as we were checking out, staff were trying to get us to put a deposit down to get a discount on our next stay. We were there to relax, not fight off salespeople.

We've stayed at other, much better, all inclusive resorts in Mexico and we won't return to this one.

The staff were all.amazing. Friendly and helpful.
Our room was okay. We stayed in a junior suite. Our toilet did not flush great but aside from that the.rooms were clean, i bit beat up when uou look closely. Beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortabe. There are no smack stations set up so if you are hungry you need to go to a restaurant to eat. You have to prebook all dinner reservations. When we arrived on Tuesday we could not book anything until the Friday as theu were full everywhere else. We had to go to the one buffet that you do not require reservations for. The food was subpar. On Sunday there was no shuttle running from 6-9when ppl were going to eat. There were elderly ppl and folks with crutches et. Walking 1.5 km to the restraunt and back. They need more evenig entertainment considering they are 25 minutes from any towns to.walk around.

The rooms are very clean, the staff are amazing the food was good.
No beach due to massive concrete blocks making it un safe. If you want a pool chair you must be up by 6 am and go put your towel or something personal to keep it for when you are ready... Seriously 6:30 no chairs left. There's the Bali beds but $100usd per day. Poor signage very confusing to get around. Long lines to get into the restaurant, there's only 1 place to eat supper unless you are fortunate enough to get a reservation at one of their \"supper spots\" but all the best places that you want to try are booked unless you are there for 2 weeks if you go for 7 days half of them are booked before you get there. Won't go back.

We’ve stayed at several resorts in the area so we have a good idea of what we like.
El Dorado is a large property (we like) and there’s lots of walking (we also like). We would have preferred if the shuttle services (golf carts) were on a more regular schedule.
The pools are not heated, so if the weather isn’t great be prepared for some cold water plunges!
The staff were all incredible, save for the one Lomas excursions employee who was not overly friendly.
Our biggest “complaint” is the food options: if you don’t reserve your dinners on day 1, you’re likely not getting in to the restaurants. The buffets are not great so you want to make sure you get in to the restaurants. Our faves: Habb (absolutely amazing Indian food), Wine Kitchen, Santa Fe. The pizza place is great too. Ricon is great for breakfast, not for dinner. For a resort of this size, we found the food options to be limited, especially for middle of the day/lunch options. Room service was great (really good burgers!!) but took over an hour most days.
Make sure to do the Maroma Beach/catamaran tour that is part of their “all inclusive”.
Speaking of “all inclusive” - this would be our second “complaint” - they pass off extras like their eco farm tour, bike tour, and Maroma beach tour as part of their “extra inclusive” package but at many other resorts these things are automatically part of their package, if not more (water toys/excursions for example).

I would not recommend this resort!
We stayed for the week of New Years 2026.
The Youtube reviews were wrong and maybe paid off.

To start out positive; The property itself is beautiful and spread out with about a mile of walkable paths along the beach. Our room was great and clean, one of the best showers I have even had the pleasure of using in my life, house keeping did a great job.

Now for the negative: Service was cold and robotic, solely reactive, it felt like we had to beg to get anything.

Calling anyone on property was a hassle, most of the time no one would pick up the phone. Also, room service, we would try and call to get food and no one would pick up so we would use their \"app\" to schedule food to be delivered. the food was consistently 30-60mins late and always cold.

The restaurants were laughably bad, the japanese, steakhouse, italian, and buffet restaurant were all terrible. The pizza cabana by the pool was the only good meal we had at the property. The quality of food was worse than any chain restaurant. I actually laughed when I was served a sad grey steak at the steakhouse. The buffet is a lot smaller than the pictures make it seem and the food offering could be described as disjointed. Though if you enjoy soupy instant eggs and undercooked pork sausage for breakfast you will love it.

I am running out of room to write more but will say our excursions with Lomas to Chichen Itza and Maroma Beach were great! Staff was excellent and food was great!

We had an absolutely incredible stay at this El Dorado Royale and couldn’t have chosen a better place to celebrate our honeymoon. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations, and the staff truly went above and beyond to make us feel special every single day.
Itzel at the Cocotal restaurant was so warm, friendly, and welcoming — she always greeted us with a smile and made every meal even more enjoyable. At the pool, Benjamin and Luis were hands-down some of the best bartenders we’ve ever had — fun, energetic, and always keeping the atmosphere lively while making amazing drinks.
Cleo, the bartender by the beach, was fantastic and always made sure we were refreshed while enjoying the ocean views. Our room was impeccably clean every day thanks to Estella from room service — we truly appreciated the care and attention she put into making our stay comfortable.
Dining was a highlight of our trip. Sergio at the pizza restaurant was incredibly kind and attentive, and Victor at the Santa Fe Restaurant provided outstanding service. A huge shout-out to Roberto at the Cocotal restaurant — he was always happy, professional, and genuinely attentive, making us feel like valued guests every time we saw him.
Overall, we were beyond happy with our experience. The service, atmosphere, and attention to detail made our honeymoon unforgettable. We would 100% recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing, fun, and memorable vacation, and we can’t wait to come back again!

The entire facility was well kept & clean, as well as our room. The whole staff was friendly and helpful but the Concierges could be a little pushy. They really want you to do a property tour and join their membership. They even do it as you’re leaving.
The bars were well stocked with great bartenders.
The beach needs a lot of updating to be more usable and there were no loungers. We had to go to a beach club off site for good swimming & snorkeling. The resort is aware and offered that as a free excursion.
The food was just average and restaurants are very spread out. They need an evening buffet on the adult side. We struggled to get shuttles and that was a 15 minute walk.
Over all it was a nice get away.

Not worth the money. You can stay at a lot nicer properties for the same price. We had 6 people and booked 3 rooms.
Cons: Front desk is rude & unprofessional especially Maria & Sergio.
Rooms have mold growing on the walls, headboards, etc. 2 of the 3 rooms smelled. One of mold and one of sewer. 2 of 3 rooms had no working phone. Room service is absolutely terrible. 1+ hrs to get food. Often not bringing it at all. Hotel just isn’t being maintained. Pool chairs old and uncomfortable.
Pros: Nice night life & entertainment.

The resort is huge! 3 resorts in one so was busy and spread out. Sometimes all the cabanas would be taken before 8am and you had to reserve some or pay or was first come first serve. Was unclear on process. Some of the restaurants were 30 + min walk from our room. Transportation (go carts) was every 15 min and then sometimes would be full at dinner hour. The beach is narrow and cannot be accessed for swimming due to coral and huge cement blocks/structures placed there to protect the coral reef. If you want to swim in pools then this is the place as there are many pools to choose from but if u want to swim in the ocean then you must go to Maroma beach (rated top 10 beaches in the world 20 min by bus away was included and exceptional). I didnt like that the advertising implied that it was a great ocean swimming resort when it wasnt and you couldn't walk along the full stretch of the beach ( interrupted by structures , too narrow etc) . The food was superior and staff awesome, very attentive and helpful. Room was very clean, beds, pillows were very comfortable. Towels fluffy and plentiful. I would go back but only if i could go to Maroma beach more than once included with package.

The room was spacious and clean. The staff we encountered were nice and helpful for the most part. The grounds were well kept, and the resort overall was beautiful. The food and drink were good as well. We had a swim up room and found it to be more like a lazy river where other guests could swim through from the main pool, but we appreciated the quick access from our room and lounging chairs and table outside the room.
The dinner at Fuentes was quite as interesting dinner/cooking experience that I would recommend.

Wow. Best vacation ever. The room was gorgeous, The amenities, were so plentiful that we wished we had another week to experience them all. (Next time!) The location and grounds were positively DREAMY. We really walked our feet off trying to experience everything! But the very best thing about our stay was that the entire staff, everyone straight down to the merest maid, was immensely and incredibly friendly and accommodating. Daily staff was great, super nice, but lobby staff not so much. Room was clean but out dated. Getting in a Restaurant even the buffet was a hassle and frustrating. (Apparently Members are priority)
There is hardly any nightlife. Entertainment seemed to be something you had to book additionally.
It’s a beautiful place but for the money, we won’t be going back.
This property caters to its members, they do try to get you to buy in, by listening to their offers, however they give nice incentives for your time.

We took the Lomas Hospitality that came with our all inclusive from the airport and back again.We had a really smooth trip there and back.We got to the hotel a couple hours before check in but we got to have lunch at one of te restaurants as soon as we got there.The resort is very well taken care of lots of staff.Lots of different restaurants to choose from.The pools are not heated so the water wasnt as warm but we went the last week in November so thats to be expected. The beach is not swimable here.And their salt water pool was under renovation while we were there but our room was cleaned everytime we left.The food was amazing,Mexican night was our favorite along with The Spot for lunch.It rained one afternoon so we booked a spa and it was a really good experience. They do have their reps that show you around to get you to sign up for membership we did not but still got a free spa treatment. For a quiet 20th anniversary trip we had an amazing time.We do wish they had an option for non drinkers,and for that reason we would probably choose non all inclusive next time.

The property is beautiful, very large, and the rooms were nice. If you're a beach person, you wont like it because of the barriers. It was very quiet when we were there and when they played music it was older (like decades). I wish there was more local food available. We survived on room service. The food at the restaurants was underwhelming. The service was great; everyone was so willing to assist. Thr drinkscwere great! Overall we had a really good time!

Was pushed to book with our concierge for activities but the excursions the concierge book are the extra cost ones. They forgot to tell us that the excursions included with our package had to be booked at the check in area. Room was clean. Most staff were nice. Had to make a reservation every night for dinner, couldn’t walk in to a restaurant. On our first day there we sat down to make “reservations” for our dinners for the week and a lot of the restaurants were booked until like 9:00 or 9:30 or not available at all. The cenote was closed. You had to pay extra for the cabana beds. There is a lot of walking to destinations within the resort, just a tip for those who have trouble walking long distances.

Perfect for those that like to pay extra for literally everything. As soon as you get there, they try to sell you expensive dinner package and as soon as you say you're not interested, you become a leper to them. Never meet our concierge, We were only able to make reservations for 2 restaurants which we didn't really have a choice for. The dinner was like appetizers so we were definately hungry and had to settle for burgers and hot dogs. Also, we kept getting disconnect every time we called the front desk or room service. Bring good walking shoes, you'll be walking all day getting from place to place since their golf carts are nonexistent. Other than that. Pretty place

They can put more lights at night and signs on the pathways at night its scary to walk at night, I run into an alamid on my way back to our unit after dinner, and one other tailed animal that resembles a racoon. on our way back from our dinner. We get lost twice looking for for our room.Theres not a lot of people/staff to ask for information.we need more instructions at check in. The staff in the restaurants are efficient, professional and pleasing to deal with, every food they served are delicious. Staff are nice and helpful otherwise.Beatiful resort!

Not a great ending to our vacation with a day wasted trying to figure out why the hotel transfer wanted us to leave early. We got a taxi of their choice and he overcharged and became aggressive. The beach and buffet were lacking and subpar. This is not a 5 star hotel, maybe 3.5. Westjet delayed us an hour and they gave us a smaller plane as we paid for premium seating on a Max-800. The hotel, airline and transportation services aren’t in concert, which is normal but this was egregious and stressful. Hoping they can fix things for their sake.

Staying at El Dorado Royale was a great experience! My husband and I stayed for a week there. The staffing was fantastic, the food car shuttles were really beneficial on rainy days. The food options are amazing. I really loved the Italian restaurant. All restaurant options were so tasty and delicious. I like the idea of giving a free pass to the water park at Nickelodeon Resort. The transportation was very pleasant since they have taxis that work for the Resort, so it’s easy to get around if you need to go to another location or explore downtown. We will definitely be coming back!

During our time, there were a few things that happened that did not meet our expectations during our stay.

1. We were not given a schedule of activities upon arrival and had to question numerous people to figure out what to do the day of our arrival. There weren't many people who were willing to provide us a schedule or let us know what activities were available. So we didn't feel like we got as much out of our first day as we could have.
2. The pool had an abnormal amount of bugs in it and white debris in it that looked like disintegrating toilet paper. The pool was full of it, and many people we spoke to commented on it. It made us uncomfortable to be in the pool.
3. Someone must have vomited in the stairwell of our building. When I called the front desk to have someone clean it up, I was transferred numerous times and hung up on. Housekeeping cleaned rooms but kept walking past the pile for a full day. The next day, there were two piles of vomit and a pile of feces in the same hallway. It wasn't until we told our personal concierge about it that anyone did anything to clean up the area.
4. There were dirty cups in our hallway on the first day we arrived that were still there when we left, that housekeeping never cleaned.
5. The service in general from the staff wasn't what we are used to. The staff wasn't as pleasant or helpful as it has been when we stay with other resorts.

We won't be staying at Lomas Hospitality resorts again in the future.

We had an amazing stay. The property is covered with full-grown trees, dense bushes and flowers of all kinds. All the amenities are well spaced out, but still at walking distances. Lots of different restaurants and type of foods available. High variety of included activities every day. Bali beds by the beach were a must! The personnel were absolutely charming. In mid October the resort felt like a private place . Not sure how close to max capacity they were for the time of the year. There was a couple of hard rain afternoons for a couple of days. But mostly it rained at night and didn’t hold us back from activities. We will come back for sure !

My wife and I had an amazing stay. The resort is absolutely beautiful and never felt crowded. We had a beachfront swim-up room with a gorgeous view, and it was the perfect way to relax. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, always made us feel welcome.

The beach itself wasn’t the best because of the seaweed (a common issue across the area), but the resort handled it and everything else wonderfully. The property is large and spread out—it feels like a mile from one end to the other—but the constant shuttle service with golf carts makes it easy to get around. We never had to wait more than a minute or two.

Overall, a fantastic experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing, beautiful getaway with excellent service!

The food was very tasty and nicely presented.
Good golf cart service around the resort.
Good waiters and bartenders in all restaurant and bars.
Good housekeeping.
The resort area is very nice.

Cons:
The lazy river is short, very narrow, and shallow.
Very limited bar service by swim-up rooms.
No mats for swimming in the pool (bring you own).
Both room keys stopped working in mid-stay.
In restaurants, reservations are required for the entire stay in advance (restaurants were 60% empty).
The breakfast buffet is very small.
Coconuts are falling from palm trees onto the paths.
The beach is rocky and not suitable for swimming.
Nobody cleans up the front of the swim up rooms (animal s…t has been lying around all week).

My husband and I went to celebrate our 20th anniversary after honeymooning here 20 years prior. I sent an email prior to arrival and not a single thing was done to recognize this celebration. We were met with a hard sell on attending a sales 90 minute presentation in exchange for a candlelight dinner and 25 minute massages. While we agreed at first we decided not to do this and the salesperson was reluctant to accept our decision. Once he did, he was done with us and any part of him helping us with dinner reservations or anything was done. The staff are all lovely and kind but communication is lacking. We were told if we walked down the property there would be ocean access which was untrue. The entire beachfront area had red flags and huge cement blocks in the swimming area. There were a few areas we were able to get in the water but it was rocky and hard to get to a part that was nice. When we asked staff about the ocean we were given many different answers. Food was great for an all inclusive and the drinks, especially at the martini bar were great. There was a push to do a catamaran trip that is included but at one point expressed to us that it was part of the sales incentive. After being at many all inclusive in the area we were left disappointed by the activities with regard to daytime entertainment. The evening entertainment was good and nightlife at Guacamayas fun 2 of the 3 nights. The resort itself was very clean but the pool was hot and there were dead bees.

Hotel is nice, quiet and clean. Lots of pools and bars. But when I got there concierge asked where did we booked our stay, I told him Expedia. After I did spa and I had to pay at checkout I mention that I get $100 spa credit thru Expedia and they said it was only on 80 minutes massage and not on the 50 minutes, so I got no credit on that, so communication is 0. Resort offers the catamaran, jet skies etc… so I reserved the maroma beach brunch catamaran and jet skies and when we got there, they said the jet skies where sold out. But thru out the day those jet skies where barely used. They offer a service but they don’t want to provide it.
Our second day we went to make our reservations with our concierge and I asked her where do we leave the dirty dishes from room service and she said leave them inside because there’s animals and they’ll make a mess. So the day before check out we ordered room service in the afternoon, and when we got back to the room at night the dishes were outside on a wall and the animals dropped them to the ground. I do not know who would do that since room had already been cleaned that day, we brought them in and left them inside. My guess was they wanted the dishes to get all broken and not give my deposit back since is $500 usd. I’m just putting this out here bc it looked like it was some kind of scam…. So beware on that.

Food was excellent. Employees need to be more informed on location of restaurants, and time of their service. Drivers should be more friendly and stop when need ( we tried a couple of times to get a ride and they ignored us)
Very disappointed after checking out, can't remember the females name, she was offering a coupon for next visit, my husband asked several times about giving him an estimate if we stay 3 more days, she kept going back to the coupon. We told her we were not interested and she just walked away.

Staff was very nice, helpful as well. The food was mediocre at best. They had several options to choose from but the flavor and portion size wasn’t there. Seemed to have to order multiple items that didn’t fit together just to feel like you ate. The pools are not good. Dirty and extremely hot. Beach was meh. Couldn’t get in the water, very large rocks at every spot, not talking about the man made reef.

My son has been hospitalized since 7/23. Begged and pleaded with resort to let me move my dates and was denied. Supposed to be 25th anniversary trip. Still in hospital. Lost everything. At least the airlines gave me partial credit but nothing from the resort. Heartless. I will take my wife to Cancun again but it won’t be with this chain.

The staff was very kind but the food was not very good at all. For Mexican cuisine, I would imagine that they would have more flavorful food. Also the food and dining options were very limited compared to other resorts in Mexico that I have visited. If you do not catch a shuttle prepare to walk very far in the heat or wait a very long time for a shuttle to take you. Also if you are a lover if the beach I would not recommend this property because you cannot get into the water due to rocks, and the small cove was inaccessible during my stay.

We were there for 5 days. We have been to several riviera maya resorts, this one was one of the nicer ones.

Pros:
- quiet, relaxing
-many pools to choose from
-authentic mexican food
-several restaurants serving authentic food from diverse places of the world (Italian/thai/mexican/indian)
-loved their health bar with a wide selection of smoothies and protein shakes. Good options for vegans and vegetarians.
- 4 excursions included with stay. This saves you a lot of money because excursions here are expensive! Our favorite excursion was going on the catamaran and snorkeling by the reefs. The beach at the excursion was gorgeous and had many onsite free activities like canoeing and paddle boarding.
-we loved the fitness classes with Luis, their fitness instructor.

Cons:
-not much information given about certain activities that were happening. There was a mexican show, and the location of the show was not disclosed and we did not know there would be dinner served either so we had eaten before the show which was a bummer because they had authentic Mexican food, beverages, snacks, desserts!
- restaurants don't have names on them. There aren’t many signs saying where places are. You have to follow the map they give you.
- i would encourage them to work on their communication of activities, hype people up so that there is more participation!

Suggestion: a snack bar open all day would be great. In case people want to snack on something without having to sit for a full meal.

We came for a third trip and enjoyed it just as much as our first time visiting. It is a large property, but there are shuttle carts around to take you where you want to go. We liked the small freshwater pool behind La Isla- we haven’t had that at other places. The staff is friendly and the property is beautiful. We really appreciated the More Inclusive addition now that includes transportation and many excursions to choose from that are already included - we loved the Catamaran/Maroma Beach one. We plan to rerun again soon!

During our stay we experienced multiple problems. To begin we were told we were receiving a “free upgrade” this put us in building 51. That was the furthest location away from all the activities we were there to attend. Although the shuttle service started at 7am it was very difficult to find one by our location that early in the morning. The first day we experienced no hot water and issues with our safe. The second day the hot water seemed to work but when we returned from the pool our room had no power. The front desk was notified and power returned not long after. Later that evening I was in the bathroom area of the room and there was a large bug that had made its way in to our room. I believe this bug to be a cockroach. We were able to capture this on film. The following day I did complain to the front desk yet again to explain our frustration. We were then given another room that was what we had paid for. The location was much more ideal. However, this room still did not have hot water. This seemed to be a known issue and yet we were still put in this building. The room had an odor. I know realize it was an odor from the mugginess. There was no fan in the room so the moisture of showering and wet clothing did not absorb. Our bed sheets were wet every night in the new room. We called for our sheets to be changed at least once and should have requested this each time it
