Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner Warren was helpful and cooked a wonderful hearty breakfast that was perfect for morning hikes in the beautiful canyon. Trails start right out the door.
Showers could do with a little updating, but overall the property was worth the value. Will definitely stay again next time in the area.

Beautiful property in an outstanding location. Room big and well furnished. Very comfortable. Breakfast OK. Located up a steep bending, narrow lane, so I would advise arriving in the day light. Although, on the map, local restaurants look close, due to the bendy roads they are some way away, so I'd advise eating before you check in.

Had a short but great stay. Very secluded getaway experience in Topanga Canyon Hills. Staff were great. Plenty of moderate hiking trails. Breakfast was no frills but adequate. If you are a coffee lover bring your own. All in all we had a 4 experience.

The location of the property was beautiful and it would be difficult to find something similar in the area. I wish the road leading up to the property (which is privately maintained) did not have large sized potholes so be aware of this if you come here. Also, the property sends you multiple messages in advance about informing them of your check-in time. I called as requested at least a week prior only to arrive and the room was not ready until 5pm (check in at 3pm). There are very reasonable up-charges if you wish to check in early or check out late. I would expect them to maintain their regular check-in time of 3pm as noted. Upon arrival, the staff taking care of the location did not smile once and responded in a strange and robotic manner. It did not matter how friendly or polite you were, they would just stare. It felt very odd. The staff also did not maintain the parking locations so people parked in ways that made it difficult for everyone to get in and out of a steep hill. The breakfast was a farm breakfast with eggs, sausage, fruit, and muffins. The owner joined at breakfast and proceeded to speak negatively about previous guests. The location was lovely and rooms acceptable. The environment created by the staff would be the primary reason we would not return.

Avoid at all costs, deceptive B & B

Stay away from this place, it is on a horrible rough terrain road that is meant for 4X4 use and along a steep canyon with no rails. Very scary road. The place has no signage identifying its existence. Old , unmaintained cobblestone driveway made it difficult to unload and bring suitcases in and once we entered the home, a very musty, dated smell reeked through the home, unpleasant. No ADA accommodations for disabled or handicap which is a violation in itself. It needs to be shut down, stop taking customers money and either renovate or give up your greediness.

Arrived late - was made to pay $30 to be able to check-in late, however on the phone nothing was shared about where to park and the fact that in the dark it can be hard to navigate.

the driveway was full and as I attempted to back out the car was losing traction given the steepness of the turn.

would not advise anyone to arrive here after dark. was supposed to be a nice staycation but ended up going home and never even checking in. and since contacting the hotel have heard nothing back. very disappointed.

This is a great B&B. Warren and his family were so accommodating and friendly! Warren cooked us wonderful breakfasts each day. One of a kind location and surrounding area.

We are a repeat booking. The property is beautiful & our hosts are charming. The area is artsy & eclectic. The location is central to where we need to go while staying. We would prefer more control over nighttime room temps. We have spent 6 nights there, and one night was problematic. We have enjoyed the 3 breakfasts we shared with our hosts and other guests from the 6 days of our stays. The views from the top of the canyon rival Mulholland Dr. We plan to return.

We had a lovely stay in the Rhett & Scarlet room. Warren has very hospitable and available. The only down side was not being able to open the veranda doors at night due to the fact it did not have a screen. The 2 person bathtub was great and a great way to relax after a day of hiking. The breakfast was very good and they had lots of options. I also enjoyed meeting the other guests at breakfast...great conversation was had!

I give this true Inn experience five stars. Very, very good home cooked breakfasts, the over easy eggs were exquisite, the scrambled even better and the potatoes something to write home about. The accommodations, which included use of large parlors with ample comfy seating and writing tables, were very generous. The views were charming. The plumbing was great, the beds nice and bedding very nice. The one problem with the property is the inaccessibility. The drive up the narrow canyon roads was frankly scary to me, the parking a real challenge and older people who are cautious about walking on uneven ground, take extra care, for unless you get one of the three parking spaces right in the courtyard of the Inn, you will be toddling down a short, but steep, uneven path from the upper parking pad. I would recommend this romantic getaway more to the young and or highly agile, to creaky old oldies, like me. The owner Warren, is a very genial host and has good stories to tell and good food to serve. Also, the place is very peaceful and quiet, with real windows that open and the most wonderful collection of singing birds I've heard in a long time.

A lovely place to stay to get away from the city in the Santa Monica Mts. A charming inn with a charming host, within a short walk to hiking trails with spectacular views of the Santa Monica Mts., the Pacific Ocean & Catalina Island, and the Valley. Be sure to check out the art on the walls of the local flora and landscapes, painted by the host. Nothing fancy, but comfortable and well-worth the experience...perfect for relaxing in a serene environment.

The property has a funky smell. The draperies were dusty and old. The mattress was heavenly, the towels were a color in lieu of white. Why does this matter they’re not disinfected from one user to the next. The partying was silly. A drive was for 2 cars to share with several cars. One guest kept using the entire driveway. Breakfast did not begin until 9 am. As a professional with appointments this made the breakfast non existent. Had a room right off the kitchen, could not find a corkscrew anywhere. The kitchen did house bins selling their art work - :(

Overpriced, picky owner, 4 pages of rules, fees if you arrive after 8pm, fees if you self-check -in, parking not on property, advertised a balcony, but can't get 2 people on it. Views means, of the neighbors back yard. Remote, hard to find, nothing worth going that far to find.

We stayed over the long Labor Day weekend attending a wedding in Topanga Canyon. The beds were very comfortable and the breakfasts were so delicious. It's a little hard to get to, but once there, you have a wonderful view of the canyon. Charming place!

We stayed over Labor day weekend. Everything about my stay met my expectations. My partner and I wanted to hike, read and visit the beach but we didn't want to stay in Malibu close to the crowds. I thought the Inn was lovely! We stayed in the Clark & Carole room. The room was very nice and I loved the private patio. The bathroom was right next to our room which was very convenient. We enjoyed our space so much that we opted to have dinner delivered one night and sat on our private patio and had a lovely meal. The b&b had a kitchen and we were able to use wine glasses, plates etc. Elena also provided water, fruit and cookies which I thought was a generous touch. I really enjoyed Elena's company and I thought her cooking was excellent. She gave us the privacy that we wanted but was available if we needed anything.

I would recommend a visit and stay at her b&b.

Tarzan & Jane room? Me Tarzan Not sure if I would come back

I never write reviews because I think they are usually from people with over the top expectations. I am in the service industry for many years working in large hotels and clubs. I was greeted this evening upon check in a little strange, not used to this type of greeting especially given the price of our accommodations. 239$ a night. We have stayed here before and are disappointed as we are staying the night. Greeting a guest by telling them first to sit down? No time for small talk I guess? We had to ask for water! I went along with the introduction of our room, a little cold for a bed and breakfast inn keeper. We paid less here previously & this room really needs attention ants in bathroom very dated accommodations. Shower head needs attention, very dirty. Shower very small,price for room changed from 193-239 within the day as we were deciding on staying. I assured my wife we would have a great time as before. We now have to get dressed to use the bathroom at night because it?s not part of the room it?s in the common area. Who gets dressed to use the bathroom ?camping?

Anyway when here don?t pay for Tarzan & Jane room we had to go to the common area to use WiFi, I should have stayed at playa del Rey inn. ??

What a Find!

Want to stay in a beautiful and QUIET place, surrounded by nature, and still close to the J. Paul Getty Villa, the Malibu restaurants, hikes to view points, and the beaches? This is the perfect place! Clean, lovely architecture and art, and the BEST home-cooked breakfast in California! We just couldn't believe our luck! Little Gem in Topanga Cyn

This rather large B&B, run by a Russian/American couple and their 5 children, is a wonderful place to stay if you're looking to spend a weekend hiking the Backbone Trail and indulging in some Topanga Cyn rituals like dining at the Inn at the Seventh Ray, catching an outdoor play at Theatricum Botanicum, or just shopping in what remains of the West Coast's version of Woodstock. The family proprietors are delightful, the breakfasts are wonderful, and the rooms are ample. The decor can feel dated at times, but that doesn't detract from the overall cozy ambience. Elena and her children will make sure that you're being taken care of. And to have access to the Santa Monica mountain trail basically out your back door is a pretty cool bonus.

Great 4 nights in 3 rooms

We've stayed at TCIBB several times and really enjoyed our stays. This trip was unusual because we were late making reservations. Consequently, we stayed a total of 4 nights and stayed in 3 different rooms. Everything was top-notch but I would make one comment of concern. In the middle of our stay we were in the Rett and Scarlett room with a jacuzzi tub. We used the tub and really enjoyed it, however two jets didn't work. Also, we noticed that when we used the shower in the tub, the tub slopes from the back wall out to the bathroom floor such that water from the shower flowed from the shower around the top of the tub and out on to the bathroom floor. Certainly these two issues didn't damage our wonderful stay but we did want to mention both of them. Moving rooms wasn't a problem and your sons helped us with the luggage move. We always enjoy our interaction with your family!

Hilltop Getaway in Topanga Canyon

We chose the Topanga Canyon Inn because of its proximity to a wedding venue, The Inn of the Seventh Ray. We selected the Fred & Ginger room mostly for the en-suite bathroom. The room had its own little balcony, just enough space for two people, which was excellent for enjoying the views with a cup of coffee in the morning or a cocktail in the evening. The room itself was fine for our needs. (Note to owner: We forgot to mention the light over the tub is either burned out or not working.)

For those that want a cup of coffee before breakfast is served, you may make yourself some in one of their kitchens. The drawback to this or any other food preparation you do on your own is that you are requested to clean the dishware/utensils yourself. I don't per se have a problem with washing dishes. At their prices though they should clean those dishes.

The highlight of the stay was the delicious breakfasts they serve. (Another note to the owner: Make more coffee. We, at the table, were always looking for more. I understand that all we need do is ask, but it can be embarrassing to request more. I find that even if you make too much, it's not an expensive staple if you need to pour the remainder down the drain. Yes, I understand the water shortage situation, but again it's not that much.)

The inn is very convenient to the top of the Topanga Canyon State Park which offers even greater views of the canyon and the surrounding areas. The inn is very close to The Getty Museum, The Getty Villa (highly recommended), Santa Monica, and Malibu.

My family of 4 enjoyed Topanga Canyon Inn because of the breath taking views and that we happened to have the whole of 2nd level to ourselves so we can spread out in the living room, dining room and patio outside. It felt like our own apartment. It's very peaceful and many art pieces to admire throughout the Inn. The breakfast was plentiful tho' it wasn't anything different or special from an American breakfast e.g. eggs, sausage, french toast etc... We didn't feel the warmth of this family-run business, but the beauty and colours in and around the Inn certainly made up for it.

Spent 6 nights in Bogey & Bacall room on ground floor of Casa Rosa. Room was clean and en-suite bathroom larger than I expected. This was the least expensive of the rooms and thus provided very good value, although looking at the other rooms they seemed very nice/nicer. Warren's family took care of all our needs and prepared very nice breakfasts, which were well attended by other engaging guests. Location was good for visiting family in the valley and northern LA coast. Be prepared for rather interesting and winding drive up the canyon drive and to the B&B, located slightly after the end of county maintained roads. Parking was also a bit challenging at first but got the hang of it after the first day. The upside is a beautiful and remote canyon location, near the Topanga park if you are into hiking. Warren's family were great hosts, in particular breakfast and management by his daughters.

Whisked my girlfriend here for a mid-week getaway. Dinner at the nearby Inn of the Seventh Ray and a beautiful night here made for a magical anniversary experience. Fred and Ginger room was charming and romantic. Candles a nice touch. one star off because the bathroom had only a curtain - suggest investing in a door - sometimes privacy can really help the romance if your partner is a bit shy about bodily noises!

Breakfast the next morning was delicious and the surrounding landscape was heaven in the sunlight. Felt like being in Tuscany. We'll be back!

Quick little get away....

I wanted to take my boyfriend away for his birthday - but he couldn't really get away. So, I found this beautiful place that SEEMS like a million miles away. Everything was perfect and they even lit candles and turned on the fireplace prior to our arrival home from dinner. It was terribly romantic, and it's a beautiful spot, well-appointed, quiet and with great vistas of the canyon.

Vivienne and myself stayed for four nights at this completely family run guest house. The setting is stunning with panoramic views across the canyon. The State Park is accessible with a short walk and well worth the trek for even more stunning views.

We stayed in Casa Rosa in the Bogart and Bacall room which is tastefully furnished with Elena's superb artwork adorning the walls. The breakfast is superb with different choices daily.

Thanks Katrina and the rest of the family for making us so welcome.

Beautiful Location!

Gorgeous location and very quiet. The daughters (staff) were very polite and competent. Our room was very nice, clean with thick, soft towels. Breakfast was hearty and guests were friendly.

Beautiful location

The inn was in a beautiful location - hard to believe you're in the LA area! The room was clean but a little outdated. The one recommendation we'd have is to put a curtain/window covering on the bathroom french doors. While perhaps neighbors don't have the ability to see into the windows it was a little unnerving stepping out of the showing in front of uncovered windows.

We had breakfast one morning with the hosts and really enjoyed the conversation.

Topanga is tops!

Topanga Canyon B&B was such a treat! The area was gorgeous, the room was neat and tidy and the views were beautiful. The first morning we missed breakfast because we wanted to get an early start to Disneyland and the proprietor made sure we had food before we left! It was about an hour from Disney but so worth being able to stay out of the city. We will come back.

Total Disappointment

This B & B was a complete disappointment! We had to walk around the property for 15 minutes to find the entrance, there is no sign or welcome. We were sorely disappointed in the quality of the facility, extremely old and dated, but worse than that it was not clean. The white ceiling fan in our room was covered in dust and the inn smelled stale. We checked in, saw the quality of the room and facility, and did not even bother to bring on our bags. The inn does not clearly state that there is NO cell service and they keep the temperature quite hot. We sent a request for a refund, as we took one look at the room and walked out, and our email was ignored. Totally and completely dissatisfied.

Romantic neighborhood

This hotel is located in a nice and romantic area. Service was reasonable. Rooms were clean. A little over priced. Bathroom fixtures were old. Would be nice if you could provide continental breakfast including sliced bread, jam, butter, honey and milk. Not everyone likes scrambled eggs and sausage.

Last minute overnight

Good value for a last minute trip. My husband and I have been to multiple B&Bs in the past and this was only okay in comparison. Breakfast is eaten with all other guests at the same time, no flexibility of time and no option to dine at private table. Food was only okay, nothing special. I cook quite a bit at home though so I may have higher standards. Appearance was much more dull in person than online. Interior and exterior could use a little upgrade. We read ahead of time that we would have a private but detached bath which was fine but it seems like it would be easy for the owners to build out another door wall to enclose the entrance to the bathroom in the same room. All in all it is a more old school B&B for those who want to mingle with other guests and spend lots of time in common areas.

Nice weekend away

My fiancee and I spent three nights at the Topanga Canyon Inn in late January. The room was spacious and clean, comfortable for 2 people. I was surprised that no one made up the bed or emptied the trash the entire time we were there. Breakfast was delicious, though slightly awkward when the co-owner sat and ate with us while his daughter served.

This place was a absolute jewel! The night there highlighted our vacation. Topanga is charming village and to get to the inn you drove this beautiful country road. The house itself stand on the hill and was charming inside. We enjoyed the fireplace in the living room and didn’t want to leave the place so we picked up delicious dinner from local restaurant. Catherine and her sister made delicious breakfast in the morning. If you like peace and quiet and nature you won’t be disappointed to stay there!

Decent location, but needs an update

I suppose we are not B+B people, so that is part of it - but very disappointing for the price.
Bedroom carpet was heavily stained and looks like my last college rental. I can't understand why it wouldn't be replaced yet, that would cost less than one nights fee in the place. Doesn't make sense.
Bathroom is old, shower head covered in hard water stains. Toothbrush holder has years of old toothpaste runoff.
Towels had soured / smelled awful.
No TV in room.
WiFi is using old routers, can't handle two devices - big deal with other renters, and no TV.
Bed was new and very comfortable, at least.
Parking is ok.
Disappointing.

Worst of all places I rented all week, and also the most expensive.

Country castle retreat

This is a most unique retreat. Very attractive and clean, with an amazing breakfast! Elena and her daughter were so very attentive to our needs and Elena was kind enough to stay and talk with us during breakfast. She is also a most talented artist, and her pictures (and her daughter's photos) provide a most interesting décor. The location seems remote, but Malibu and Los Angeles are only a short drive away.

Perfect stay at Topanga Canyon Inn

The hospitality of the hostesses was outstanding & definately recommend! The ambiance is perfect, it's a quiet location & was ideal spot for us based upon what we wanted to see/where we were going. Was not aware previously of the artistic talents of the hostess so wish we had more time to enjoy the beautiful paintings!
