Room smelt disgusting like open vent soil pipe not nice sickly, room 14 few other people said the same, we reported it to reception she said she woyld go up and smell. Never heard a thing after that.

Room should have a fridge and milk.We arrived after a 5 hour journey and were told our room was not ready.2 hours later we asked about room and it was ready but the cleaner had not informed reception of this. When we booked nobody asked what kind of room we wanted and we ended up with a room at the top of a spiral staircase. I have mobility problems and found it difficult to climb the stairs.

Really beautiful property and grounds. Dog friendly which was a HUGE plus, they also left out bowls, a dog bed and a chew treat - much appreciated! The room was cosy and bed was very comfortable. Dinner in the bar was good, the only slightly strange thing is there is no music played anywhere in the restaurant or bar meaning that the ambience is really strange! Not necessarily a judgement but it was very noticeable how uncomfortably quiet it was. The spa is lovely and gym is small but adequate!

On arrival and departure members of staff offered to help with our bags. Room 4 was fairly small and one side of the bed was difficult to access due to the narrow gap between bed and wall.

Disappointed with allocated room which was in an upper corner of the main block with low ceilings and very little room to move- no walk-in shower, only a bath with no room to stand up. Spoke to reception staff who were great and organised a room change and upgrade. In fact staff were extremely helpful and friendly throughout. Very nice cooked-to-order breakfast and great dinner. Lovely drinks on the terrace in the afternoons. Can highly recommend a stay here.

We enjoyed a delightful three course meal in the evening and found that the menu was very appealing and the restaurant had a lovely ambience to it.
The morning after our stay we were booked in for a massage in the spa which was also great. The amenities are brilliant and we would very much recommend this to anyone else wanting a relaxing weekend away.

We enjoyed our stay at The Spread Eagle and were very comfortable. The room was lovely and we were kept well topped up with drinks etc. The breakfast was excellent. Historic hotel - very comfortable but standards and service somewhat below par. Receptionist very helpful but appeared to be doing everything, including running to the bar to serve us drinks when nobody else was to be found. Could be excellent. Restaurant service pleasant but slow. Desk space unusable as full of coffee making etc. some grubby marks on wardrobe and shower screen.

A room which shouldn't have been let.
On the hottest day ever in the UK, a booking was taken for an attic room at the top of the building. On going in, the radiators, lights and towel rail was on and the temperature was unbelievable. There was no room to move to. A fan did little to improve things. I turned off the lights and radiators but couldn't do so for the towel rail. I ran a bath of cold water in an attempt to cool the room. I couldn't stay there so went out until after 8pm by which time the towel rail had been switched off. The window was fully wide open but a security risk as there was scaffolding immediately outside.
I didn't sleep due to the heat, fan noise, and concern about security.
I asked for a 50% refund the following day but the most the hotel would agree to was £25.
The room shouldn't have been let and I intend to raise it with Hotel.com

Everything was amazing, especially the staff and the spa. Only one thing to comment on - we had prepaid for our stay, apart from extras, but early on the morning of departure a bill was put under the door for a very large amount. This was swiftly sorted at reception but i don't understand why this happened.

Just average - not worth the money paid
For the money paid it wasn’t good value. It was a very basic room which requires a lot of updating as do a number of parts of the hotel. You could feel the springs in the mattress and there was a stain on the headboard. Also the bathroom was very cold. In general the service was good with a few exceptions. The spa itself was nice but it was incredibly busy. Unfortunately, it left us feeling that the price had been increased greatly for New Year, but the hotel (certainly our room) couldn’t live up to this.

One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Genuinely top quality in all respects, including food. An old building with quite narrow stairs and quaint rooms so I suppose some weird snowflakes might find fault but we thought it was amazing and the staff were lovely.

The hotel staff were welcoming and very attentive. The food was excellent. We both had spa treatments and unfortunately my massage was spoilt by a rather loud and annoying guest speaking on their phone below my treatment room! Not the therapists fault but perhaps spa staff should keep a closer eye on guests using their phones in the spa area

We have stayed at the Spread Eagle several times so that speaks for itself. Overall it is a lovely hotel and better than many, more expensive places we’ve stayed.
My only issue was with one family and their three young children. Why you would bring kids to a spa and allow them to scream and run wild whilst everyone else is trying to relax and enjoy the facilities is beyond me?!
Everyone was clearly getting annoyed and many simply got up and went elsewhere. I would have liked the staff to have had a word and for the spa area to be adults only.
It simply isn’t set up for kids as it’s a small and intimate area.

All the facilities as described. Staff very friendly. We stayed in the blue room which overlooked the spa courtyard and up an extra flight of stairs. It was cosy as described but well laid out and perfectly lovely. The china used throughout the hotel is delightful btw!

No milk for tea in room which was a pain at 6 am after our nights stay and reception not picking up! I had to go down to the night Porter to collect milk. Otherwise it was an excellent stopover .
