Charming and quaint.
We booked the smallest room so it was so. The air conditioning cooled very well. The bathroom was attached to the room and was also very clean. The toilet was inside the shower room with a drain which took a little getting use to. We had a safe and mini fridge within our closet. The bed was extra firm and on the smaller side I believe it was a full or queen rather than 2 twins put together for a double. The house was historic and had charm which I prefer rather than a chain hotel. The staff was friendly and spoke English well. Breakfast was typical European breakfast, breads, jam, and fruit. They ask you pick a time slot to have your breakfast served. Also you leave your room key when you leave the house (not new to us we've done the same in Rome) and the front doors will be closed/locked by a certain time. The area was great just a few blocks from Plaka shopping. This is an older property so street noise can be noticeable inside your room thankfully it is a quiet area so not such a problem. I did not notice any noise from ajoining rooms or upstairs. I recommend staying here of course ! but I will for sure choose the larger room for my next stay : )

The staff here were exceptional. They were so friendly and welcoming that we felt right at home. The rooms were clean and the building had such character.
Panajota was especially lovely; she ensured that we were well looked after and nothing was too much trouble for her.
We will miss Acropolis House, and want to thank everyone there for making our stay such an enjoyable one.

Advertised private bathroom but did not tell you the bathroom was down the hall from your room making it inconvenient for showering and using bathroom at night. Also did not say there was no elevator so we were walking up 4 flights of stairs with bags. Had to leave keys at desk every time you left and had to be back by 12:30 am or make sure you arranged with them ahead of time to have a key to come back later. Had to schedule a time each day for breakfast and not always lot of choices on time if others beat you to it so very inconvenient. And the breakfast was not good

This hotel offers a unique experience in that it is comforting and friendly. Walk to Acropolis shops, transportation all easy. The location is key. Right in the heart of Plaka it allows you to walk around easily and come back for a rest.

In a good location, walkable to the major archeological sites, welcoming owners and staff, inexpensive breakfast (don't forget to pay otherwise it comes out of staff wages), agreed the rooms are small but the property has character.
Syntagma metro, tavernas, shops, cafes and other eateries all nearby.
All in all a nice, reasonably priced, place to sleep in the centre of Athens.

Unfriendly desk service from the start. Told us we had not booked a place for our child. I assured we had, he said no. He asked how much we paid for our room, as we had not paid for three people. I had to find the original booking receipt that had 2 adults, 1 child before he was convinced. He then had to call someone to get permission to put us in a room for 3 people, which did not include an en-suite bathroom. We were very unhappy.

Excellent bed and breakfast hotel! I was expecting just a place to drop off my bags and sleep - but the hotel itself is nice. Great homemade breakfast. Nice little lounge to enjoy coffee and cookies. George and his crew almost had me thinking that I was staying at a friend’s house. A++. Will definitely be back here!

I didn’t like it

Service was very nice and polite and the hotel is in an amazing area. Breakfast is also good. However I was very disappointed when I did the check in and I was told I had to pay my stay in cash otherwise they will charge me 5% if I paid by card which I never knew, besides, which hotels nowadays asked for cash payments? Additional to this my room was in the first floor next to the kitchen I woke up at 05:30 with all the noise and I could hear all the noise and steps and everything. I couldn’t go back to fall asleep. Finally, they asked me for my key every time that I left the hotel. Again, hotels doesn’t do that any more. All in all I didn’t like it.

Not Bad in Athens

This hotel is nice enough and in a very good location not too far from the Syntagma Square metro stop and within walking distance of some of the top sites. The room was small but comfortable and the breakfast good. Compared with other hotels nearby I felt that it was too expensive but the most annoying part was the fact that the hotel would not accept credit cards. I had to go to a bank and exchange more cash to pay the bill.

Location is simply perfect.👍 Atmosphere is very nice but perhaps it could a good idea to refurbish the ceiling of the room by keeping the little part of the fresco. Breakfast is very good and staff very nice. 👍Housekeeper use to prepare on daily basis a little animal with the bath towels for our 8yo son. Amazing😉
Careful as the hotel would prefer a payment by cash which is forbidden by EU law if payment is done with a EU payment card (except Amex, Diners, JCB, etc).

Hotel Acropolis House

Accommodation was great value given its location. Staff always very pleasant and welcoming. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable (with en-suite which was on the small side but served its purpose). Buffet breakfast each morning with a good variety of foods to keep one going through the day. The hotel is very central and within walking distance of a lot of the main sights in Athens and is near Syntagma Sqaure. Great stay here, would definitely come back.

Very basic room. Pretty dirty (the shelves in the cupboard had a layer of dust on them). Tiny bathroom with the shower only having a hand-held and making the whole bathroom floor wet. Good location, and very friendly service. The cost of the room reflects the quality.

Hotel is extremely well-located in walking distance to all public transportation as well as major sites. Staff was very kind and helpful and the traditional Greek breakfast was excellent. The hotel is probably not for those seeking extra comforts and the room was pretty small, but all in all it was a great value, we would definitely stay again.

Most reviews rate the hotel location but not the hotel itself which is the kind of comfort you would get in a 1 star 1950 style hotel. Let's look at the room options. 1st floor rooms are surrounding the dinning kitchen area. Expect plenty of kitchen noise starring at 530am. That also includes 2nd floor rooms above kitchen. If you look at the other option was a quiet 4th floor rooms with no bathrooms. That's right, you walk down the corridor to the bathroom and shower. The better rooms are 2nd floor if you pay more. Also no elevators so expect to dragged your luggage if you get upper floors.

Room decor was like the furniture came from the salvation army. Beds were 8 inch pads with the oldest looking bed cover.

The free Breakfast have orange juice with sign saying 2.50 euro more.

I have stayed at many European hotels but this one is pretty outdated for tourists. If we had known the condition of this hotel and the fact they did not care if they wake up their guests at 5am. Shame on hotel acropolis. Hotels.com should provdie a warning about this place. The only reason people pick this place its the location.

I recommend the hotel burn all the beds and bedding material and buy good quality sheets. Also put bathrooms in the room. Otherwise becone a hostel for kids with little money. This place is not rustic or romantic. You been warned. The favorable reviews are a joke

We stayed in room 110. Not clean, only one bath towel, and hole and stains in the mattress. Very small bed. There is a window in the room with no view of outside. The room is located beside the room where hotel staff prepare for the breakfast. Throughout the night staff entrered this room turning on the light which lit up our room through the window. At around 4:00-4:30 staff began preparing for the breakfast. Very noisy!!! Needless to say we did not get any sleep. If you decide to stay here, request a room on 3rd or 4th floor.

The location couldn't have been any better. Located in Plaka and walking distance to all the historic sites in Athens. The Acropolis House is nothing like your typical big brand large hotel chain. It is a quaint old style house converted to a hotel with character and charm from several decades ago. The staff is very hospitable and does everything possible to ensure you have a great stay. The breakfast is free with a very good selection. If you need to leave before breakfast is served, they will prepare something to take with you. They speak English very well and are incredibly helpful. WiFi is free. I spent 3 nights there with my 3 daughters on Spring Break from the US. We had a family room (1 double/queen bed, 2 single beds). Pretty tight quarters, but it isn't like we needed a huge suite. The price was very reasonable. The only drawback I saw was the noise level. However, we were in the room right behind the lobby area on the lower floor and by the road. So when people entered the hotel to get to their rooms, we would be able to hear them. And being in a busy area, we could hear people on the road, but it only seemed to be bad on the weekend. The weeknights were not that busy.

Lovely hotel with really helpful cheerful staff.

Rooms are very small with tiny bathroom but very clean and all of the hotel is very attractive with nice touches everywhere.
Excellent location within walking distance of everything and close to Syntagma for metro and buses. Pretty communal balcony for smokers with plants and flowers in a picturesque setting.
Wifi was good too.

Central Location, walk to sites and airport bus

Hotel chosen due to location within walking distance to the x95 airport express bus and budget rates plus a free breakfast. They sell refrigerated drinks, bottled water, beer and wine in the hotel lobby at store prices without the big hotel markup which is a rare find and convenience. The staff is mostly helpful but regimented to provide guest comforts. The breakfast offered a wide variety of Greek choices.
The rooms and baths are small, crowded and furniture dated but this comes at a budget price.
I had chosen the 3rd floor due to general street noise with the loud motor cycles and scooters of Greece. Ear plugs are a must here. The beds were metal spring mattresses with a canvas cover often found in hostels. Luckily my room had 3 beds so I folded up the 3 blankets to put over the metal spring hard mattress under the sheet to cushion it just enough to sleep. We all travel and sty in hotels to sleep and the bed comfort is a hotel priority. Stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the sites, museums and walking the café district locally.

Excellent hotel!

I normally stay away from reviews due to their potential subjective bias based on preference and tolerability of certain conditions. However, this hotel stands out for me. The only issue was paying the entire reservation by cash up front. This was by no means a deal breaker though. This hotel is run by an extremely hospitable group of people. I stayed there for the Athens Marathon. The hotel staff and residents were extremely polite and friendly. The rate was more than reasonable given the proximity of the hotel to major transportation areas and tourist sites. Also, the breakfast was extremely well done given the small hotel footprint. The building itself is a bit old and the mattress I slept upon was a bit worn-in But again this did not detract from a very pleasant and enjoyable stay. I highly recommend this hotel for what it does offer: fantastic and polite service, a great location (never felt unsafe) for solo travelers and families, affordable rate (about 42 euro/night in November--off season mind you) and a great breakfast. Greeks tend to stay up late (dinner around 8-10pm is very common), yet I did not have any significant issues with noise whilst trying to sleep. English is not a problem with any of the staff, but please do learn some basic Greek words to reflect the respect if you stay there!

This hotel is in a fantastic position if you want to visit Athens. Avoid the 2 ground floor rooms. Ours was 112, right next to the kitchen. So I was woken at 5.30 am with the staff starting breakfast preparation. They were trying to be quiet, but with only my door between them and us, I could hear the eggs being hand beaten etc. The staff are happy - one of them hummed a bit and another started to sing softly. Thankfully. I was only there for one night as I could not get back to sleep. The breakfast however, was delicious and plentiful.
I had problems getting to sleep because the water pipes clicked for about a minute, every 2 minutes.
The hotel has some old fashioned charm and is time worn. Value for money if you can sleep.

Bit difficult to find. I took the x95 express bus from the airport. It is only a 15 min walk after you find it the first time. Be sure to follow map directions carefully as the hotel is on a small street around a not so visible corner.

I like the provincial and family nature of the hotel. Lovely breakfast room and the cook is divine! The rooms are everything you need and are clean and well maintained! Slept like a log. There's no lift (I don't know where they'd put one) and you must pay in cash. If you plan ahead, that's no problem. The location is perfection! Two steps to the Plaka and within ten minutes to all the sights. Reasonable cost. Close to Syntagma Sq. and the Metro.

You want to stay in Plaka. This is the old city with the twisty, narrow streets and view of the Acropolis. Yeah, some of the shops are a little touristy, but this is where everything you want to see is located.

The Acropolis is a fine little hotel, great location, decent, simple rooms. Nothing fancy but clean and quite, and walking distance from EVERYTHING.

The breakfast was incredible!! Lovely Mediterranean delicacies and plenty of \"Western\" things as well. A great mixture. The hotel was also within walking distance of many fascinating small shopping streets as well as being right at the base of the Acropolis hill. A quiet street (we were on the ground floor right on the street and had no noise problems at all) and a great air conditioner! Oh, and I forgot to mention the classical music, and the cute old-fashioned \"snuggery\" just off the lobby with family photos and old furniture! The ONLY thing I might mention was that the double bed was a bit small for the 2 of us. Thank you!

Awful room, great location

The hotel is a very old house. This would be charming, except for the fact that our room was the most uncomfortable I've ever visited. It was so narrow that the bed was against the wall on one side, hence the one who sleeps against the wall has no nightstand and cannot get out of bed without disturbing the other person. The bathroom was tiny, and the shower is something like we'd never seen: there was a step inside the shower area, which was very tall, and it was so tiny that you'd have to stand with one foot on one side and one on the other. It's impossible to describe. Plus, I guess the exterminator had come recently as there were moribund roaches in the bathroom. Very unpleasant.
The hotel personnel was kind and the breakfast was alright. You have to bring your luggage upstairs to the room.
Our room was very uncomfortable, but the location cannot be beaten.

We were happy with this small hotel, especially its location. The major Athens attractions are all within walking distance from this hotel. The paintings in the lobby are impressive. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for 4 nights. The location of this hotel is good-near the Plaka, within walking distance of the Acropolis, cafes, restaurants, shopping areas. The hotel is older and there is no elevator. There was a blond woman at the front desk who was very kind and helpful. It was a bit expensive, and payment was in cash only, which was a bit inconvenient. However, at this time of year, prices are high.

I do recommend this hotel if you are OK with small rooms and a very tiny bathroom. But the location, staff and better than average breakfast made up for that from our perspective. The warm homemade donuts (didn't get the Greek name for them) were delicious. It was a pleasant 15 minute walk to the Acropolis. The area was very quiet at night so good for sleeping. Front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. Try the wine bar \"By the Glass\" just down the street for a nice glass of wine.

The friendly staff, high ceilings, and excellent breakfast, along with the location right in the heart of the historic plaka neighborhood was the perfect combination to start our visit to Athens on a high note.

Close to shopping and sightseeing.

The hotel has great history and our room was spacious. It does not have an elevator so carrying our luggage up the stairs was a bit challenging. Its a terrific location close to the Acropolis, shopping and dinning.

Great location, not so nice facilities

The position and staff friendliness was the plus. The amenities was the downside. The room was tiny so that it was squeezy to pass around the back of the bed. When my husband sat on the en suite toilet he had to put his knees to the side to fit in. The shower took ages to drain so you had to put the water on low so the bottom didn't fill up and overflow. Note, also, that there are no lifts so quite an ordeal taking heavy suitcases up the stairs.
The breakfast was quite good. Some cut up fruit would add to it.

Best find in Athens: made my trip

Manager accommodated my request for a ground floor room due to a recent injury. So friendly, clean, and great breakfast. Ordered me a taxi to the airport and referred me to great restaurant. Had the best souvlaki and fried quid. Plan to return same time next year!

We loved staying at the acropolis house. The warm and friendly staff were very helpful, answering emails and giving advice. We enjoyed the decor of the hotel with its old wooden panels, staircase, view of the acropolis and quiet street.

It was a nice family hotel very outdated with no elevator. I have no complaints but you can pay a few more bucks and stay at a better and more modern hotel in same location (Plaka).

Old world charm.

Very nice Hotel. Very close to city center and in a very quiet area, you could hear birds singing especially at night. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is excellent with a lot of tasty home made food. All in all excellent place with excellent location and affordable price for what it offers.

Clean hotel with very friendly and polite staff making you feel like being at home. Very good breakfast and in a very safe area. It's near the town center and you can walk to all the famous roads of Athens. 10 minutes away from Acropolis museum, 5 minutes away from all the shops, 10 minutes from Monastiraki area and 2 minutes from Plaka area. Thank you a lot for making my trip so comfort.

Agréable séjour à Athenes,hôtel très bien situé 5 min du métro et 5 min du quartier touristique Plaka on peut visiter Athenes à pieds,attention les chambres familiales sont au troisième étage sans ascenseur voyagez léger! Mais on est récompensé par la vue sur l’éternelle Acropole ! Literie convenable sans plus et douche un peu petite.personnel attentionné et agréable.bon rapport qualité prix

Hotel centrale ma camera e pulizia da dimenticare.

Positivo: la posizione centralissima per visitare Atene, colazione ottima e reception gentilissima e attenta alle ns. richieste.
Negativo: pulizia inesistente e il bagno piccolissimo aveva al centro il foro di scarico dell'acqua, 10 cm di diametro, senza coperchio con il rischio di inciampare e farsi male. Ma il peggio è stato il fatto che non hanno mai cambiato gli asciugamani, noi li mettevamo a terra sporchi ma la sera li trovavamo ben piegati sul letto. Solo dietro richiesta alla reception abbiamo ottenuto un paio di cambi, per cui l'ultimo giorno la stanza era piena di asciugamani sporchi.
