Nice hotel on the sea front with car park and a short walk from the center . Clean and tidy , we had a big spacious room , coffee machine , fridge , safe . Only downside it did not hair air-conditioning though it is an old hotel.

It was nice to be located right on the beach and we appreciated having beach chairs ready for us in our rooms. The seaside rooms had wonderful views. Staff was very friendly. Rooms were clean and comfortable, with historic feel but a little dated. Nice toiletries. Great to have parking right at the hotel. Easy walking distance to many restaurants.

The hotel is worn down and our suite was decorated with ikea furniture; we paid 214€ for this family suite a night without breakfast. The only good thing is the seaview from the room. You have to pay for parking 12,50€ a day, breakfast 20€ a person which is really expensive and bad and almost no choice in variety; I don’t know why people say this is a superior hotel. Never again for me at this worn down palace.

Great Hotel - Great Stay

After reading mixed reviews, we were hesitant before we arrived. That said, once we arrived and checked in any concerns quickly disappeared.

The building is not a purpose built hotel property and once that is understood the rest falls into place. It is Art Deco, high ceilings, large foyer stately home which has lots of history.

The staff were welcoming, rooms were large and well equipped with very comfortable beds. Bathroom was substantial and shower did as you wished with good pressure.

Breakfast was continental style, good quality and plentiful albeit there was also some hot options inc scrambled/hard boiled eggs and bacon. There was even bubbly ... go help yourself, it didn’t get offered!

Location for Ostend is great, short walk or download the app and use one of the many motorised scooters available on the beach front.

Only negative is for the cost of the room would have thought that parking would have been free for guests.

Belle Époque by the North Sea

We’ve visited our favourite spot in the Belgian cost, Ostend, several times before, though this was our very first stay at the Thermae Palace and how memorable it was!

A big and ancient building by the sea, where the elegance of yesteryears suddenly comes alive, a comfortable and spacious room with an awesome view to the beach, and the lovely Albert Brasserie underneath, with its most delicious food and drink welcoming us during our stay.

Friendly and helpful staff for whom nothing was too much to ask and a direct exit to the promenade, where everything happens in this lovely seaside town full of history, also played their part in this sudden wish of no longer staying elsewhere when visiting the Queen of Seaside Resorts.

The rooms were large however there is no air conditioning. The windows open and this allows in mosquitos. This spoilt the trip as I was bitten all over. Reception staff could also be better organised. The breakfast was included in my package and was tasty. However buying it seperate at 20 Euro is very expensive. The hotel needs to be refurbed in general but because of its grand nature it’s nice to be on the beach. It is 2 tram stops away from the station.

Good points-polite staff at check-in.excellent steak in restaurant.
Bad points-overpriced 3*hotel, booked superior room which was just a standard room with a view.. The service in the restaurant left a lot to be desired, got ignored most of night to the point where I had to block the head waiters path to pay my bill, we weren't offered refills on our drinks and made to feel unwelcome even though we were paying guests.

Great short break.

The Thermae Palace is from another era. The king of Belgium used to holiday nextdoor. The public spaces are vast and the decoration in the dining room is impressive. We had a seaview room which was also large with an enormous bed. The view is of a wide sandy beach and the sea with sand yachts and kite surfers taking advantage of the long evenings. The bathroom was also large, well provisioned and clean. The fittings are dated. Breakfast was excellent apart from the scrambled egg which no one was eating. It's about 15 minutes walk to the centre of town along the promenade. We found a great Italian restaurant a short way inland. Ostend is a great spot for a short break with plenty to see and do, and only 90 minutes from Calais.

Opulent style on the beach

The TP is old glory in all its splendor. Some chair upholstery is fading and may need repair, carpets are being replaced, old paint is cracking.. And what a charming beauty it is! You will not eat in better surroundings than the Brasserie Albert, you will not sleep in greater comfort than the comfort you will find in its beds, listening to the approaching sea. Spacy, super relaxing, a decent gym, great breakfast.. the Best value for money! Passing by 3, 4 times a year and wish it could be more often. And, to make you enjoy it even more, the staff is super efficient and super nice.

Thermae Palace Hotel review - Sept 9, '17

Our first impression of the hotel was excellent: friendly check-in staff, luxurious lobby, accessible room & great location (room with terrace overlooking the digue & beach).

However, a few aspects need improvement.
1) The room needed updates: no available plugs to charge phones/electronics, older bathtub/shower with water going from freezing cold to scorching hot, lacking noise insulation from hallway/lobby & non-working wifi.
2) We paid the supplement for the breakfast buffet (7:30-10am), but when we arrived at 9:15, all the tables were either occupied or not cleared. We finally sat ourselves (the hostess was too busy to seat us) at a dirty table, waiting for the staff. After a few minutes of waiting, I asked an employee refilling buffet trays if she could send someone to clear the table; she answered very abruptly that the staff were on their way. 10 mins later, I asked another employee to send someone, mentioning how long we had been waiting. The table was finally cleared (but not wiped) 5 mins later. By then, we had to rush to fill our plates as trays started not to get refilled. At 10am, trays were taken away. We understand this was a special weekend with the Film Festival, but the breakfast crew was obviously understaffed & under pressure (sometimes bordering on impolite for some).

We would recommend the hotel for its location & seaside view (must be booked), but would not have breakfast there again & would hope to see an update on the rooms.

I arrived and couldn't get in the car park because of a local horse race fixture. I went in and asked for a space. I was told if I had booked I would have to park on the road. There was no space on the road for miles. I suggested this was appaling that all the spaces were taken by non residents and they seemed ok with residents having to walk miles with luggage. The manager reluctantly let me park by the bins!!
Room and hotel are ok but in a very poor state of repair, but in a great position by the beach. I also had a terrace outside the room, which was great.
On second night I wanted to eat in the brasserie, and was told I would have to wait. As the tables came clear I continued to wait, then after an hour the maitre'd tossed a menu at me and told me I would have to order quickly as the kitchen would shut soon. Was not impressed, but the food was ok.

Great building, nice to see but a lot of things to do. Checkin : was ok, friendly / Checkout : fast, ok.

Cleanless overall need to make some efforts, even broken or damaged stuff need to be replaced or repaired. The carpet on the floor must be wash...

The service is not good, the housekeeping forgot to refill (soap, shampoo,cafe,..) and it seemed not to be cleaned up. The room size is good, cable tv, wifi and fridge ok.

The room get not really dark for sleep and it has no air cond.

Restaurant in the hotel is good but for me not a recommendation by gmichelin worth. The waiters were friendly but not attentive.

Short Beach Break

A short break in stunning weather. The hotel is in a fantastic position where you step from the hotel onto the beach and a further 10 minute walk puts you into the main restaurant area. The public areas were much better than expected given earlier reviews and the room itself was huge and in a good condition. Generous supply of towels (family room) and prompt efficient housekeeping. Yes there were a few marks on the carpet but generally the condition and cleanliness were good.

Staff exceptionally friendly and welcoming, nice to find coffee and tea making facilities in Belgium. We were here in December so didn't brave it but the beach is just outside the hotel restaurant door. Perhaps half a mile to the town centre, also on a tram route.

This hotel is built on a grand scale and the seaview rooms have a fabulous view over the beach and sea. It is a little way out of town but there are a number of restaurants on the sea front within a few minutes walk and the Coast Tram stop is also just a short walk away.

Arrived just before 9pm on Thursday night after leaving Amsterdam at 5:30pm.

A girl rang me at 8:55 to ask if i was coming.
I asked what time the restaurant will close and was told 9pm. I asked if i could pre-order something but couldn't!.
Room 140 is opposite an electrical cabinet which buzzed all night and room was so hot it was like a sauna.

The physical condition is poor. I asked the staff and they said the city owns the building and an individual owns the business. It shows. Good service but crumbling exterior, threadbare and stained carpets, bathrooms needing updating.

Great hotel but, breakfast is cold every day - needs to be sorted (cold bacon, sausage and eggs) Yuk!!

Our hotel room had a faulty thermostat which had a high pitched noise early morning and night (kept us awake) did report this but nothing was done.

Apart from this, lovely hotel, great location.

Fantastic location but poor quality rooms

Quite expensive for what you get. Room was very very old & outdated and not in a great condition. The bathroom door even had a hole in. Staff's knowledge about the local area was very poor and also did not know the conditions of my booking, as to what's included/excluded. Overall very disappointed as this hotel is actually in a great location and can offer so much more.

A Once Grand Hotel

Outside of building needs some TLC but seafront location probably makes this an expensive thing to keep doing. One of the checking in staff was very pleasant one was very abrupt also wish we were told about guest parking rates when checking in as we used machine in lobby to pay which cost 38 euros instead of 10 Euros if paid at desk for one nights parking. Breakfast was nice but 20% of dining room chairs looked in need of recovering. Bar was very pleasant with a nice feel to it . Our room was clean spacious with a nice outlook and the beds were comfortable. Free bottles of water in fridge was a nice little gesture.

Lovely Weekend

Enjoyed our stay, didnt have a meal in the Bistro however, when i went in all the tables were reserved but we did have a lovely walk down to the restaurants on the promenade. One thing i found upsetting was the fact that the photos of the hotel showed a sauna and a whirlpool bath next to each other, this is incorrect, i asked the reception and they said they dont have that facility, my wife was looking forward to that which is a shame. On the all i enjoyed our stay and the buffet breakfast was wonderful.

Hotel needs work and some TLC

The hotel is in disrepair once you get past the ground floor which looks great. The carpets are stained and numbers have fallen off the doors . Having said that the breakfast was excellent and the bed was comfortable. There were stains on one of the towels and the bed cover was also stained - The rooms need a bit of TLC and we were expecting more from this hotel.

It is a pretty old but an hotel that I like very much.
The room we stayed was on its knees. It needed up keep. The windows were letting air pass and to top it there was a towel on the bottom to keep the cold air out. Clean as it was, the room had an acrid stench. Beds are uncomfortable and there are not enough plugs to hook either a telephone or lap top charger. When asked couldn't get an extension cord with multi-plugs.
The reservation was for a single bed and and it was twins.
There was a separate toilet with the door which you couldn't close. When taking a shower a second person couldn't use hot water on the wash basin.
Talked about the problems with the management who proposed to refund or change our room. For the two night stay we deemed that it was not necessary, but believe that those rooms should not be rented out when in so much need of repair. They advised that the hotel is going to be renewed and that is gonna take at least another year.
So our advice is you can make reservations and stay at this beautiful and respectable hotel. Make sure that you do not accept a room on the third floor, because the renovation work is at that floor and you may not get what you expected.
We were rewarded with a bottle of champagne for our friendly comments by the manager.
No need to scream and shout. Just talk to the people, they are friendly and helpful.

Chambre très propre, personnel d accueil très professionnel, souriant, compétent, capable de résoudre une difficulté.
Par contre le personnel du pt déjeuner très désagréable ne croyant pas le client et après avoir compris qu'il s est trompé ne s' excuse pas.
Et le lendemain après avoir refusé une place face a la mer , la propose a des clients arrivé apres, pt être existe t il des privilèges par chambre ou par la langue parlé.
En plus un peu de regret malgré un choix énorme ne pas trouvé de produits locaux et étiqueté.
Nous reviendrons en espérant que au niveau pt déjeuner des choses auront changé.
Il semblerait que il est assuré par une société extérieure.
Dommage nous adorons cette endroit qui nous demande des sacrifices pour y accéder.

We choose Thermae Palace Hotel whenever we go to Oostende because it’s at a quiet place, far from the crowd and we get a nice walk along the beach when we go to the center which is not far away. From our room, We always get a nice sea view. Parking is easy and it’s free. Also convenient to take the coast tram.
Breakfast offers many choices.
The negative point: The bathtub didn’t drain fast and it was not easy to pull up the lever to have the shower. Also, this time one vial of soap has been already used since there was not much left in it. A mistake perhaps?

Als in zomer moet je voor zien van airconditioning in dekamer maar hoor de niet veel lawaai dat was goed verder tv aan de zee is wel nodig die kreeg we niet in gang waarom?

Wir hatten leider kein Zimmer mit Meerblick. Das Hotel liegt wie ein Palast am Strand, das Gebäude zeigt äußerlich Unterhaltsmängel. Frühstücksbuffet ausgezeichnet. Service war sehr freundlich. Landseitig vor dem Hotel Straßenbahnanschluss nach Klokke und De Panne. Tageskarte 7,50 Euro.

Wij hebben genoten. Om 1punt na
Woensdagavond (19/3/24) heel luidruchtig bende in brasserie (kv oosten,de) jonge luidruchtige bende. Zingen, roepen boven op tafel en stoelen staan om te zingen...dit in zo een klasse hotel!!
Personeel v.d beasserie lachte ons uit toen wij aangaven dat we elkaar gewoon niet meer
konden verstaan aan de tafel. Spijtig voorval.
Dit kom je tegen in mindere hotels.

Les vestiges d'un Étoiles passé

Séjours proposé avec une piscine et un spa. La première n'existe plus. Mais l'hôtel ne le mentionne pas sur l'appli et le site. Le second consiste en un sauna ou l'heure est facturée 30€ sans que cela soit précisé a aucun moment nulle part. Pour finir quand j ai exprimé mon mécontentement, j'ai été envoyé balader par l'équipe de réception en place. Hautaine et condescendante. Pour finir l'isolation des murs est inexistante, vous pourrez entendre les conversations de votre voisin et ses ronflements...

Altes Gebäude! Hat Geschichte - Flair! Die Zimmer und der renovierte Teil sind sauber und gut ausgestattet. Aber die alten Teile des Gebäudes verrotten leider ungenutzt. Lage natürlich optimal. Restaurants in der Nähe in Hülle und Fülle. Trotz allem, gerade wegen Alter und Zustand, etwas zu teuer.
