I really enjoyed my stay at LLoyd's on the River. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. The staff was easy to work with and even stayed up to accommodate my late arrival. Check in and check out was very easy. The room was quite and was in a beautiful location beside a wonderful trout stream. I plan to go back next year. Perfect for a fishing trip to the NC mountains.

I received a call (went to voicemail) from them asking what time I would I arrive. I called back an hour later (10:30pm) telling them in a voicemail I would arrive around12am but I was unsure because I was in a poker tournament. When I showed up at 12:15am nobody would answer the front door or answer the phone. I called 10x and waited outside for 15 mins waiting for somebody to help me get the kieys yo the room i had paid for on the internet reservation I made. I lost out on the room and when I called in the morning asking for a refund since I never received my keys, I was told no. What a joke. I called the, told them when I would arrive, and never heard back from them. Poorly run motel. Also, I stayed there a month before and pulled up to 2 police cards with their lights on dealing with a domestic disturbance. I asked for a mother room night later this year since I come out here for business often and they said no. Awful customer service. And thanks for leaving me stranded at 12:30am looking for a place for to stay. Took me 90 mins and countless calls to local motels/hotels trying to find a room that late.

PLEASE, do yourself a favor and DO NOT STAY HERE.
I booked a room at this place through Expedia. They confirmed and I even sent a message letting them know that I will be arriving shortly after midnight. They agreed.
Once I got there, nobody was at the desk. There was a sign stating that I need to call a certain phone number if check-in is after 9:00 pm. I called, nobody answered. I called multiple times. At 1:30 am stranded, in the cold and nowhere to go after 5 hours of traveling.
Thankfully, the Econo Lodge had vacancy. Their front desk was great, the rooms clean and decent. OH AND LLOYD’s DIDN’T REFUND ME. I called them the next morning, they said “Because you did the reservation through Expedia, we don’t do refunds”.
I read other reviews, and they all say the same. I travelled a lot in my life, and never had this happen to me even in the most secluded places of North Carolina.
Save your money and time. Don’t book here. There are other motels WAY BETTER than this one in Cherokee, NC or Whittier.
$93 ladies and gentlemen gone to the drain.

We love a place with character, charm, and hospitality. Lloyd’s did not disappoint. The property is right on the river and we enjoyed winding down and relaxing on the porch and at the fire pit area. The room was cozy and rustic with the feel of an “old timey” cabin. We were there in February and the water took a very long time to get hot but it did eventually get to bathing temperature. Check in was smooth and Elizabeth is very knowledgeable and available on the property. Location is convenient to Bryson City, Cherokee, and Sylva (our favorite) and many waterfalls, hiking trails, etc. We would definitely stay at Lloyd’s again.

Staff and location were great. Beds were comfortable but we were disappointed because our room showed picture that had a back door leading to a deck overlooking the river. We didn’t get a room like that, just three tiny windows looking at the river. The room though, that’s a different story. It smelled musty and the wood paneling was falling off the wall. The blinds were old and dusty along with the curtains. The bathroom was worst. The shower head doesn’t go above 5 feet, the towels were dirty and there were cracks in the floor. The drywall was coming off and it just looked grungy.

Called eight times and waited almost 2 hours for someone to check us in. Called corporate twice and was hung up on without ever being answered. Property view was gorgeous. Unfortunately, we won't ever be able to enjoy it as we won't be returning. We were told by another person staying there that the only way to get anyone to answer is by calling the police. I am happy to report that we did not do that.

Nobody knew what they were doing. The place still smells of cigarette smoke from where I assume the rooms used to be smoking rooms. The bathroom tile was broken and cracked all over the place. When we checked in the person admitted that they were subbing for someone else which is fine, but then didn’t seem to know what they were doing. They were also the one cleaning the room so our rooms were not ready. They also left the cleaning supplies in the room. The ice machine was broken. The vending machine was broken all in all. I’m very grateful that we only had to stay there for one night.

My husband and I were spending our first anniversary weekend here, and when we arrived the first night, for the most part everything seemed fine and the receptionist was very friendly. She let us know that the sliding door might not be working in the room and advised us that we may be able to get a discount through the site we used (Expedia) for that, which was lovely! We had no problems with this, and were enjoying our night until after I'd fallen asleep, my husband woke me up to show me he had found a bed bug in the bed, when I saw it it was crawling across his pillow. We took pictures and left immediately, tried to contact the front desk but it was about half past midnight so no one was available. We found another hotel to stay in and came back the next day to explain the situation, the same receptionist was there and was very friendly and understanding again, and immediately worked to issue a refund through Expedia. The experience with the bed bugs was horrible, and after we realized there had been other reviews of bed bugs prior, but we had not read them. I'm giving 2 stars only because the lady in the office remained kind and professional throughout the ordeal, however I cannot recommend anyone to stay in this hotel knowing that they have bed bugs!

Our ten pound dog was welcomed by attentive staff making check in easy. The motel is well worn and dated with smoking left overs outside. The heating was old but worked well and controlled well. The beds were very comfortable and the place quiet and dark.

Upon arrival, we checked in and dropped off our luggage off the motorcycles. Then left to get to our appointment. When we did get to our room, around 6pm, that's when we realized the problems. It was 2 rooms with a bathroom in between them. Nice older motel really. The one bed had a deep soft spot in it. The one room was missing a remote control for TV. The other room the TV didn't work at all. I was promised a discount that night because they couldn't fix the problems. Didn't get it on the bill. They also have a hidden fee. After I reserved the rooms, they said they have a deposit for damage. Nice area out back to sit by the river. But I don't recommend because of lack of upkeep.

I liked Lloyds on the River. Here is what Lloyds is: it is rustic and perfectly fits the mountain vibe of the area. I wanted to avoid the chain motels, and this place is definitely like a mom and pop. Just about every room looks different. My room was very clean with fresh new looking bedding. The walls were a nice rustic paneling.

My one complaint was that the heater/AC unit made a horrible racket. I had to turn it off the sleep, so it got really cold in there. This might be a deal breaker for some folks, but it didn’t bother me that much. It was worth it to stay in a clean and unique motel.

I arrived five minutes before the office closed. The young man was friendly and when I was given a key (a KEY!) I was thrilled.

This place is a classic, road side motel. It's old but clean. Nice bed, shower was small but with very hot water, microwave and 'fridge. I had a balcony room right on the river with two rocking chairs.

Both nights I stayed there there were logs burning in a fire pit right next to the river so the sent of a campfire filled the air.

When I turned in my key the young man said he hoped I'd return because \"You're family now.\"

Wonderful, old-school place with a lot of charm.

Room was as expected for an older hotel. BUT I booked and paid for a room with 2 queen beds - and what we got was 1 Queen bed and 1 Twin. I called and explained and they said it was the same “room category” as I booked and nothing else available. No refund either.
Also….
The only light in the room is an excruciatingly bright 3 tube LED without a cover that is blinding. I have migraines and ask for a lamp with a dimmer bulb. No lamps either.

Keep these things in mind should you plan to stay here.

Extremely disappointing. I actually feel bad about saying this but Room 129 was lousy. Entry door latch was falling out of the door and daylight was showing around the door when it was closed. Ceiling light was bare bulbs. The \"non smoking\" room stunk badly of cigarette smoke. The bathroom was missing a wall tile and the bathtub had been repainted with a brush. Then touched up with a brush in another colour. But the worst part was the double bed. It sagged so badly in the middle it felt like it had a hole in it. A simple piece of plywood would fix it. I hardly slept. So the room was just badly run down. The plus side? I can't fault the housekeeping. Despite it being a wreck it was clean.

The door did not have a dead bolt or throw over chain. Locked and unlocked with a key only. The walls were very thin so you could hear conversations from the next room. The carpet on the stairs and hallway was very dirty. Our room was clean but the bathtub was very stained and the drain was gross since it appeared to be rusted out.

It was a very old and run down room. No outlet for bathroom,no hair dryer, stained and rusty tub, a board in the entry way to the bathroom that the nails was loose. A tripping hazard indeed!! No lamp for the side table and the side table wood was peeling. The window frame paint peeling. The pool run down and broken, unusable. What i did like was towels seemed clean, the bed seemed clean. Picturs on website not as it claimed.

The hotel is run down and outdated. We were on the second floor, so we did not get to have a room with a porch by the river. We were in a non-smoking room, but right outside our door was an ash tray, and staff had been there smoking so there were fresh cigarettes and a nasty smell. The beds were outdated and old. In our room, the bathroom door was all scratched up like a dog had been locked in the bathroom.

The hotel is in a very nice location. If some renovation work was done on the hotel and smoking was not allowed in the non-smoking areas it could be a very nice property to visit. The image of the hotel that is posted is misleading - it is not as nice as shown in the photo.

The swimming pool was also in a state of disrepair, was closed, and is unusable. It should not be listed as an amenity as it has obviously been out of commission for a long time.

I had a King room with a nice little porch looking out over the river. For my purposes, this location is perfect - quiet and relatively natural environment that is still roadside and able to get to a large number of hiking trails and towns all within 15 minutes. The front desk was warm and welcoming - the guy there is chill in a friendly way.

Where do I begin- this was the WORST overnight experience we’ve ever had. The rooms were beyond dirty- they left dishes with food on them in the sink. The stove had residue down the side, cabinets had mold in the back, under the sink was a patched up hole where bugs/rodents could enter. The beds were worn out, springs in the mattresses poked through- these should have been replaced years ago. The carpet was nasty- walked across and my socks were black from the dirt. The furniture was peeling and banged up- behind the tv stand was another patched up hole that allowed outside pests in. The bathroom was not clean, the shower hot water burned us- even adjusted it went from cold to hot with no control. The door into the unit was not sealed correctly and insects/bugs came in- also there was a piece of wood nailed to the door to cover a hole.
We reached out to the staff to advise of the issues and how uncomfortable we were which was a complete waste of time. They simply let us know that they were a “mom and pop” establishment and I guess in their opinion that should excuse the fact this place is run down and not suitable for guests period. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone- it’s not sanitary and needs completely renovated. This experience ruined our trip and the lack of understanding/compassion from the staff was unacceptable.

We decided not to stay and just lose our money. The grass was knee high, the wastebasket inside the room had trash in it. The bathroom was not clean to what I would expect. Hair in sink. No mattress pad on bed. Not that we would have used the pool, but it was not clean, and the water was green. All in all, just didn't feel comfortable or safe. Our dog was very unsettled and stressed in the room. I understand that this was a dated inn and that is fine but based on the reasons listed. We did not stay.

This property is run down, people lived in the room next door, the comforters had holes in them, staff had my husband paid even though we paid on Expedia and made us pay more than it was on Expedia I wasn't there at check in so he paid. It took over two hours to get a refund from Expedia. The front desk guy had no idea what he was doing and wasn't helpful in any way. We were supposed to get a river front room with patio but that isn't what we got and they refused to help. It is a truly run down awful place it seemed like everyone checking in had major issues

From the pictures I saw on Travelocity I was led to believe it was a country quaint with a river view. What we got was a DIY project with the view of the neighbors backyard junkyard. The kid that checked us in was very friendly and I will give them an A for cleanliness and friendliness. But they have a long way to go.

Upon arrival I was greeted by the staff and was told about activities near by and restaurant that he requested! Told where my room was and the drink machine and ice machine.

Got into our room and the smell of Mary-Jane hit us in the face.

Rooms were clean and bathroom as well. Drink machine was out of order.
We expected a swimming pool but upon arrival found out they didn’t have one due to the hurricane.
Which is understandable. But definitely should write that on the about part for temporary issues or something.

Anytime we needed towels or anything for the room the office staff made sure to accommodate. We overall enjoyed our stay.

Absolutely terrible. When to check in and was told I was double booked and that they had no room. Place looked run down and pool was empty.

Staff made us feel like family. Lovely older motel situated on the banks of a river. This gave us an opportunity to relax and enjoy the rocking chairs outside our room overlooking the river. Beds were comfortable. It wasn’t fancy, but it was clean, quiet, and a good value. Will stay there again when in the area.

Im the queen of cheap hotels- i paid roughly 70 dollars for the biggest dump. I will say the young mixed gentlemen at the front desk was very very nice and helpful. But the pictures show a pool- its absolutely disgusting and not accessible. The doors have markings on them like someone tried to break in. The lock on my backdoor in my unit didnt work. Smelt like cigs. Ive been waiting to hear back for a refund because i told them i just couldnt stay there.
I tried being the bigger person and just not writing a review but ive reached out several times for refund and no one gets back to me. 70 dollars down the drain to this dump

Facility is very dated (chipping paint, broken blinds, etc) and the check in area is nothing like in the photo. Staff was nice and welcoming.
