The hotel is at a great location next to the Teatro. It is old and has a classic feel to it. The room is clean and has AC. Staff is nice and responsive. Breakfast is average. The shower drain may have issue.

The hotel is quirky and full of interesting knock knacks and paintings. It is on the main square and next to the Amazon Theatre with good access to bars and restaurants. I stayed on two separate occasions for one night each. There was a problem between Expedia and the hotel who had not received my booking for the first stay but the lady on reception was great and we got a room albeit the one nearest the breakfast room so potentially noisy but we were up early anyway. The second occasion we had a room overlooking the square. The bed was an old one so quite low and hard, and the street was noisy. Most annoying is the squeaking bathroom door and that you should not flush toilet paper. However this is outweighed by the location and the quirkiness

Hotel was nicely located. Hotel was clean, breakfast was very good, and staff was very nice. HOWEVER, there were parts of the hotel, including my room that had an overwhelming mildew/mold smell. Also, lock up everything in your suitcase before you leave for the day. My wife left her sunglasses out when we returned, they were taken from the room, most likely by the cleaning staff. No issues once we locked up our belongings.

It's hard to give an accurate assessment as the first stay was in a room facing the square and the noise from bands and the night clubs made sleeping impossible till well after midnight. On the second stay we were in a back room which was quiet but the room was very small. That aside the location was excellent, the placed oozed with charm and the breakfast was excellent.

I’ll comment on the pros first. Location is superb, right across a nice park and the Teatro Amazonas. The area gets crowded at night, with people visiting restaurants and the park right across. The cons about the hotel are, mainly, neglect , the room I choose for my first night had view to the park, and it was very large, but air conditioning unit wasn’t working properly. Next day I moved to a cheaper room, with walls made out of dark glass, which let the sun come through at early hours, and at night the lights from the hallway won’t let you sleep. I guess those are little nuisances that could easily be fixed.
Also the shower in my cheaper room needed attention.
The terrace upstairs is nice, filled with flowers and offers a nice view of the teatro.
All in all, the hotel is just fine for a couple of days.

The room itself was just average. Unfortunately, the pillowcases smelled like they hadn’t been changed, so we ended up sleeping without pillows. The front desk staff didn’t seem to know how to greet or acknowledge guests, which made the experience feel unwelcoming, especially the one who was working in the early morning of Oct. 15.

On the positive side, the breakfast was good, and the location is convenient. However, the property could really use some upkeep, and the staff would benefit from basic customer service training.

Boa localização, café da manhã atende bem. O ar condicionado no nosso quarto funcionou, mas a aparência dele é antiga, gerando um pouco de receio sobre ácaros. Nosso quarto tinham duas janelas e as cortinas não vedavam a claridade. Não foi algo problemático, mas acho justo relatar. O barulho dos bares ao lado e em frente são altos. Se alguém tem dificuldade de dormir com barulho deve repensar a reserva nesse hotel. Não me incomodou porque o ar condicionado era barulhento, então ele bloqueava o barulho externo.

Can't beat the location with the theater right across the street. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. Breakfast was amazing and the place was really clean. The decorations gave it a really homey feel. I've stayed in many places around Centro and I'll definitely be staying here again.

It is a very special hotel, would advise it for travellers for vacations, very cosy and nice staff. For business purposes it is a bit poor as regards the small rooms, no cabinet for your suites, shirts, clothes and no desk to work.

AMERICANS!! This review is for you and others that don’t speak Portuguese.

We found one employee here who spoke a tiny bit of English and a little bit of Spanish. The others spoke maybe two words of English. We got along fine with the staff using our phones to translate.

This hotel is the former home of the friar to the church on the corner. It is spectacularly decorated in a sort of adventure theme. So cool!

There’s no ice. And, like the rest of Manaus, the water is unsafe for Americans. They sell cold bottled water in the lobby. Use that for brushing teeth. Use hand sanitizer instead of washing hands. You can’t flush paper down the toilet but there is a bidet.

Also, there wasn’t a TV in our room. (We didn’t care!)

Because of safety issues you should limit yourself to the immediate square once the sun sets.

The Teatro Amazonas is across the street. It’s an opera house and well worth touring.

Many restaurants and food carts line the square and many of them have English speaking employees. The “pipoca” is delicious.

Please note that it is not a Hilton, or even a Days Inn, but it is a unique property that adds to the adventure of visiting Manaus.

Beautiful old hotel in the center of town, near many restaurants and cafés with live music especially on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Much quieter on Monday night, but still many dining options. Great place to stay for taking day trips into the Amazon. The hotel has a large roof top lounge area and other spaces for sitting, reading, or talking. Our room was large. Staff are very nice and quickly gave us another when the air conditioner broke. Breakfast was very good with a nice selection of items.

Perfect Location in a Unique Old Mansion

Hotel with great location directly on the plaza with great rooftop terrace providing fantastic view of Teatro Amazonas. Hotel has 'collectables' everywhere including rooms, so it's a bit like visiting a grandmother's house with a mix of art, old cameras, books, relics, santos, furniture etc. from many decades.
Some would call it like sleeping in an antique shop... others would be fascinated and call it 'eclectic'. If you want sleek and modern, this is not for you... if you like the idea of staying in a 'curiosity shop' - this is perfect.
Rooms have been carved out of an old mansion, so bathrooms can be quirky but functioning. Walls can be thin - not a problem except on Saturday night when hotel is full with pre-tour groups that leave early.
Rooms facing plaza are fantastic for view, but you also hear everything from the street plus your neighbor - not a problem for us except Saturday night with the parting in the plaza and noisy neighbors.
Be forewarned of rooms 17, 18, 19 which have glass walls - and you know what they say about living in glass houses!!! (your neighbors will hear).
Bed was firm but excellent for my back.
Breakfast OK - with something for everyone, but nothing special - coffee was hot and good.
Few wall outlets as expected in an older building.
Wifi was sporadic with many times needing to reconnect or move to other network on another floor of the hotel.
Despite this - the staff is really wonderful and the location perfect... so would stay here again.

Save your money - stay somewhere else

Run down, mouldy and uncomfortable. So bad in fact that we didn't even bother to stay, we checked out the same day and moved to another hotel.

The room was in terrible condition. The bed was so bad you could feel and hear the springs as you sat on it. The bed sheets weren't even clean and the bathroom was full of mould.

We reported to hotels.com and never heard anything further regarding a refund.

There are far better hotels in Manus - Ibis Styles around the corner is a great bet, cheaper, with better facilities and clean.

Wonderful eclectic decor with lots of space with nooks and cranny’s to read and relax. Lovely roof top terrace. Rooms are great. We stayed there twice so far and will return. Breakfast is included and is very good with fresh fruit, sliced meat and cheeses. We had a great stay!

The place is a fascinating treasure trove of antique items apparently from the days of its being the home of the fathers of the church, as well as having all kinds of interesting art decorating the walls.
The staff was pleasant and helpful and the breakfast delicious. Being right on the plaza in front of the Theater of the Amazon made it an easy walk to the opera house, many close by restaurants and craft shops.

O hotel é interessante e teria muito potencial, no entanto, foi uma surpresa desagradável. A limpeza deixa muito a desejar, tinha um grão de arroz sobre um amontoado de pó. Travesseiros velhos e desconfortáveis. O banheiro não tem box e a instalação com chuveiro foi feito de forma que a agágua caia fora da área molhada. Evidenciando varoonfios de cabelo de hóspedagens anteriores. Não havia tolha de piso e tive que usar uma toalha de banho para secar o banheiro. Por fim, apesar de o hotel estar vazio, me colocaram com duas crianças num quarto .ao lado da cozinha. A porta do quarto é de vidro na parte superior e a luz do corredor tem acesso para que quem circule na área externa, accebda e apague. Assim, quando deu 6h, os funcionários da cozinha chegaram conversando alto, acenderam a luz do corredor e, coroando uma estadia péssima. Se forem reservar, se atentem para não ficarem nos quartos 5 e 6.

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Casa dos Frades — the staff were kind and helpful, and the room was clean and comfortable though lighting could be improved. The location is great, close to restaurants and attractions, making it easy to explore the area. Breakfast was good with quality food, though a bit more variety would make it even better.

As áreas comuns são melhores que os quartos. Quartos estão realmente precisando de uma reforma, as roupas de cama então finíssimas, desgastadas, manchadas e sujas. Quando mencionei para a recepção, falaram que a roupa de cama volta assim da lavanderia (ou seja, no minimo precisa trocar de lavanderia). O quarto desde 5h da manhã é totalmente claro, sem nenhum blackout. O banheiro nao tem agua quente, molha o banheiro inteiro, e as toalhas no mesmo estado da roupa de cama. O cafe da manha é tenebroso, nao tem reposicao, e colocam fatias de bananas (?) para paracer que tem mais frutas.

Enfim, se eu ficasse mais dias em Manaus certamente mudaria de hotel. Parece que alguem gastou dinheiro na reforma, mas nao quer gastar na manutencao do hotel.

O cafe da manhã é simples, poucas opcoes. Mas em relacao a sabor era bom.
Ah, vale a pena subir ate o ultimo andar e ver o por do sol lindooo! De forma geral, vale pela localização e todo contexto do hotel. A decoração tem um charme a parte.

Tivemos uma excelente estadia no Hotel Casa do Frades, começando pela equipe que nos recebeu muito bem. O Hotel é lugar aconchegante e cheio de estilo, com coisas antigas que fazem a gente voltar no tempo. O quarto que fiquei não tinha Televisão mas isso não foi um problema para mim. A única coisa que deixou a desejar foi o café da manhã, é muito simples e quase não há produtos amazônicos no café da manhã visto a riqueza da culinária local, porém pedimos que a moça que fizesse um ovo frito na hora e ela fez, estava muito bom, como disse, o pessoal é muito é educado. Recomendamos de olhos fechados a estadia no Hotel Casa dos Frades.

Quarto muito limpo, perto do centro, confortável, banheiro limpo e claro, ar condicionado bacana, o café da manhã foi super gostoso com muitas variedades, comidas típicas, sucos, bolos. As acomodações são antigas. O ar condicionado é enorme e barulhento. O café da manhã é razoável. Pela localização que eles possuem poderiam caprichar mais nos detalhes.

Nada confortável. Banheiro sempre molhava ao tomar banho, cama sem padronização dos colchões, barulho intenso durante a noite seja dos funcionários, hóspedes e músicas que atrapalhava ter uma boa noite de sono. Luz no corredor acesa à noite sem isolamento para o quarto pela parede ter uma abertura rústica. Rolo de papel higiênico de péssima qualidade foi o que mais me surpreendeu e quando acabava tínhamos que descer as escadas para pedir outro na recepção já que não colocavam um de reserva no banheiro. Elevador deu defeito e somente descia e não subia do térreo para os andares. Funcionamento adequado mesmo somente o ar condicionado que era silencioso. Café da manhã com comidas em formas de mimos criativos, mas a reposição das comidas não contemplava a todos mesmo indo cedo para o café da manhã. Geralmente só as poucas frutas que tinham eles conseguiam repor. O único ponto forte do hotel é a localização. Não faz jus ao custo x benefício. Não entendi o tarifário para o pouco que ele oferece. Passei por 2 quartos do hotel e somente mudou o tamanho do quarto e tipo de colchão. No mais os mesmos problemas. Sugiro repensar a qualidade do prédio, logística e funcionamento. Ah, os quartos não tem frigobar, não tem isolamento acústicos das janelas e nenhum aparelho para se comunicar com a recepção.

Hospedagem muito aconchegante, uma extensão da sua casa, mas precisamente uma casa de avô bem religiosa.
Atendimento bem humano e cordial, achei exclusivo até.
A vista no terraço superior é a cereja do bolo, com toda a vista para o teatro e a praça, traz uma paz a mente.

Ótimo custo benefício, bem decorado, eu voltaria!

Ótimo custo benefício! Localização excelente, muito bem decorado, detalhes que fazem a diferença! É um edifício antigo porém o ambiente criado, a decoração, os ambientes e o astral faz com que tudo combine muito! Melhoraria as toalhas (antigas e muito finas) e o cuidado com o banheiro (pouco papel higiênico e sabonete).

Cafe da manhã bom, cama confortável, o ar de um dos quartos era um pouco lento e o banheiro do outro deixava muita agua sair do box. Mas fora isso tudo ótimo.

Quaint hotel with character

The hotel is quaint with a lot of character. While the rooms at the front of the building have a great view, the street can be a bit loud at night. The hotel has a very convenient location.

Simplicidade franciscana

Simplicidade franciscana, literalmente. Hotel muito muito simples. Suficiente apenas para dormir. Cafe da manhã bastante limitado em variedades e o que havia não estava bom. Som bastante alto nos bares ao lado, atrapalhando o descanso. Sem tv e frigobar no apartamento. Chuveiro eletrico. Roupas de cama e banho desgastadas ao extremo. Enfim, a vantagem foi a localização.
