The staff are nice, friendly and helpful. Public areas and room are very clean. The food is very good for both Chinese food lovers and western food lovers. More options with coffee. Walkable distance to subway, railway stations and bus stations. The area is safe. Only the bathroom is not convenient. big class windows make no privacy for changing clothes.

The area surrounding the hotel is good for sight seeings. But since it is in the heart of governmental admin area, it lacks of local lives in the sense of real local food (you can find quite a bit of tourist food) Be prepare to do quite a bit if walking and the area is hugh!

Disappointing service!

We are quite disappointed at how they arranged our transfer from the airport to the hotel - We told them in advance that we needed an 11seater van as we are 5 people with 10 luggages and we even called them to let them know that our flight was delayed by one hour, but when we got there our transport wasn't there as the hotel did not tell the driver about the time change and they only provided a 7 seater van which couldn't fit us.Due to the language barrier...they forced us to book another vehicle and ended up paying for 2 vehicles which was very costly! very annoyed and angry about this as it took 2hrs to sort out and it was already 2am. They showed no remorse for the inconvenience they had caused my family.

Futhermore, we booked 2 rooms where one had no aircon so it was very hot & the other room had very bad lighting and felt dark and gloomy. When we asked to swap out one of the rooms to have aircon they brought up an angry cleaner lady who screamed at us in chinese that no aircon in the room and to deal with it. It wasn't till we demanded to have our money refunded so we could move hotels that they finally gave us another room with aircon.

On our 3rd day here when we decided to sleep in till 9am, we got woken up at 8am by loud drilling noises that went on for at least 10mins.

The only good this about this hotel is it's location as it near the beijing central train station and at least had a nice english speaking concierge.

I WILL NOT STAY HERE AGAIN.

Staff w/ bad attitude

The guy welcomed us upon our arrival had a bad attitude. We were told that the rooms we booked were not available so they gave us an \"upgrade.\" I asked him if it's still one large bed, he said no. And he was not accommodating at all. We get to the rooms and both rooms smelled like cigarette smoke! We had asked for non-smoking rooms & we were on the \"smoke-free\" floor...

Nice hotel even if slightly old fashioned. Amazing breakfast, perfect location if you’re taking the overnight sleeper train to Shanghai as the Main Station is literally across the street. Perfect central location to Beijing itself too. The hotel was just what we needed for a few days in Beijing.

The property is underwhelming and quite poorly maintained. Carpets were filthy. The bathroom was poorly finished and the door cannot close. The window did not close or open properly, which is an inside in a smog burdened city. The hotel also lied. There is no AC despite their posting. Only heater and fan functionality in all rooms.

The Howard Johnson Paragon is not in a convenient location to much except the train station. The staff was friendly but the comfort of the room was awful! The room was uncomfortably warm and no matter how low we set the air conditioner the room never cooled down. We had booked a room for three adults which they provided by placing a roll away bed in the room. The floor would have been more comfortable...the bed was hard and lumpy with only a duvet and no top sheet. That added to the overall discomfort of the warm room. I would only recommend this hotel if you need to travel by train.

The rooms and furniture are a little dated. Not a big problem, but a remodel would be good.
Location is great, opposite of main rail station and a subway station, plenty small restaurants and supermarkets around the corner, a bank of china office (ATM) 3 minutes walk.
Big modern shopping mall at 10 minutes walk.
Breakfast very good, lot of choice, international breakfast.
2 restaurants, one western, one Chinese, good food.
Front desk staff very friendly, good English speaking.

The location was ideal. It's right next to the subway station, so getting around the city was very easy. The rooms were clean, but the one thing we couldn't get over was how dim the rooms were. There was practically no lighting. Breakfast was not included. 150 RMB for 2 people ($21 USD), or 80 RMB for 1 person ($11 USD). The breakfast spread was nice, but it got boring after a while and became not worth it to keep paying every day. We switched to local restaurants for our breakfast. You can exchange currency at the front desk for a fair exchange rate, which was very convenient. The lobby service was a little snobby for what it wasn't. They were very particular about where you could sit and how you could sit. Their lobby chairs are somewhat strange, so it's hard for a short person to comfortably sit. If you pull your legs up so you can lean against the back of the chair, be prepared to have someone yell at you. Other than that, our stay was OK. The rooms were very cramped and dark, but they were clean and the most affordable price point for the location.

This hotel is more on the high end. Its very near to Beijing Station. The room is very satisfactory. Breakfast is good with a wide variety of food choices. Staff is a bit cold and not as friendly as it should. I asked if they can signed on my behalf of some parcels. They have said no to that. Overall satisfaction, however staff can be friendlier

The restaurants are a bit overpriced for what you get (although the breakfast is a reasonable value), and the charges for the tours and taxi rides are significantly higher than ones you can get independent of the hotel. Overall, I was very pleased and enjoyed a nice stay there.

Great location in the city center, actually just across the Beijing train station and next to a subway station which can take you anywhere in the city. Good for the price. The only thing is that the food in the hotel restaurant is kind pricy (though they have westerner style food). For me, I would just find restaurants nearby which is plenty and taste some great Chinese food.

The hotel staff are friendly, but special thanks should be accorded to Mr David Zhu, one of the Hotel Manager there. Upon my check-in on Aug 8th, he was extremely kind and courteous and gave me good info on where to find good food, and shopping etc. Second commendation goes to the Bar Counter, Mr Jack Wu - who was extremely friendly and full of smiles while serving me my coffee and a chocolate chip. A decent place to stay.

I like the location of the HoJo's in Beijing. It's right next to the Beijing Railway stop on Line 2 on the Metro. Centrally located for just about everything. I don't do nightlife, so not sure how that aspect is, but for getting around and cost, it's good for me. Staff is reasonably helpful; many speak English well enough to get by, and continue to improve. I wish my Mandarin would improve at a similar rate! The place shows it's age, but price, location help to balance it out. Beds are comfy.

the room as a whole was good but I have a problem with when you cannot drink the water, the charge of $3.00 a bottle. The first two are free. Save your money and go around the corner to the grocery store and purchase water and whatever else you need. Also for a GREAT AND CHEAP BREAKFAST, go to the food carts just around the corner from the hotel for something similar to JianBing!!Also the Sunshine Atrium Cafe food was really good. We had hamburger with fries and pizza.

It is a nice hotel but we were bit disappointed with the room cleaning. I am sure they could do a better job with proper cleaning of the hotel's rooms. The cups in room were not washed and we could see the stains from tea or coffee. On second day, they didn't even bother to vacuum the room and put up robes into wardrobe.

Location for this hotel is very convenient. Metro station is only 5 minutes away. the front desk people is very nice and flexible . We arrive early that the checking time and they let us checking as they have the room available .
Rooms are dated but still acceptable and conformable.
Also the main train station is juts in front of the hotel .

Overall once again the hotel impressed. We had a quieter room this stay and were given a fan on stating the room was to hot last time. Down side was the extremely poor service at both breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. Over priced, extremely slow and at breakfast bordering on rude. But the location is great but it is becoming too expensive. It is a good place to stay one off but not overly welcoming for returning custom. A toilet leak was not fixed over a 3night stay

Great location with American ambience

the location is amazing with both the central railway station across the road and the subway out side the door, The view over the station is very pretty with hourly bells chiming between 6am to 10pm, so not intrusive at all. The ambience is excellent, the beds on the hard side of comfortable. My only complaint is that the room was stifling hot to the point of making it difficult to sleep. The room temperature control was for looks only as it didn't work, except to turn it off all together which didn't help. Typical Chinese solution is to open the window, which is little help if you want to close the curtains to keep the light out to sleep. Other hotels with this problem have offered a fan, which is a better alternative. There is little English spoken here, but over all it is a great place to stay

Fantastic for the subway blue line, Travel agent across the road speaks good English, we needed to do a special trip and he sorted it all, interesting restaurants around, good walking for forbidden city, Tiananmen square and night market. This is a big hotel right across from the central train station at Beijing. Hence great for transportation. This NOT the train station where the fast train from Xian and elsewhere end, though. The hotel is a little dated, but well maintained. Huge rooms, we had an upgrade to a superior room, well worth it. Breakfast is a must, huge buffet breakfast including Chinese and Western items. Reception personnel speak English well. Good hotel, would not mind staying there next time too. The wireless worked reasonably well.

The district seems to be less busy than before probably due to the nearby big shopping mall being closed for some time. The rooms facing the Beijing Station get a reminder every hour from 6 AM. Front desk staff efficient in checking in and out.

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. We booked a deluxe double twin but we were put in a standard twin room. The next night we switched but the room was even smaller. Both rooms only had windows to the inside atrium, not the outside world, and they were extremely dated.

There was a balcony but when I asked for a key, the staff brought two band-aids(???) to my room. They missed a message from my Great Wall tour and then double-booked me. Fortunately I later got my money back for the extra tour.

Breakfast was extortionate so we didn't have it. Drinking water is extra. I have stayed in hotels in 8 countries and 11 states of America and this is possibly the worst hotel stay I have ever had.

Location is perfectly convenient, next Beijing train station and 2 mins to metro station. The hotel property is a bit old but room is spacious and fully-equipped, clean and comfort mattress, also very responsive service. Given the room rate, I will give 10/10!

Located right by Beijing train station, so it it crowded all the time around the hotel,. It is convenient since it is right by the subway station and it is a circular line and connected to airport shuttle train line.
