This is a basic but reliable, clean and comfortable hotel. It my second stay. The most important thing about this hotel is that it quiet. It is about 100m from the main street so it is super quiet. Hotels on main street have severe noise issues. This is not a hotel you linger in. You sleep, shower and leave. The rooms are VERY small so you can't really hang out in them. But you can go out to beach or restaurants/coffee nearby. Pool is clean. Breakfast is very basic but many places nearby. Bed is comfortable. AC is great. The only issue is that hot water for shower might not be reliable but I waites for a while and it was warm enough. This is due to solar powered water heater. I had another issue with shower head. Next morning they replaced it. You can contact them on WhatsApp with issues and they reply promptly. Security is tight but someone is present 24/7. Give them the key when you leave and get it back when you return. Front desk helped me get a large taxi no issue. Although the room is small there are many chairs and tables just outside the room you can hang out at.

Right in the heart of Jaco. Beach & restaurants are right there. Swimming pool. Staff was relaxed & 24/7. Only issue was breakfast. Ham & cheese panini &juice every morning No choices. The best breakfast restaurant in Costa Rica is next door.

Really liked the location and place was clean. Jose was a big help and super informational at the front desk. We were able to ask questions and get information from him. The hotel itself was great. 3 minute walk to the beach. They have a pool and bar well kept and lawn games to play at night.

Had a stopover in my way south. This cute little hotel is very close to the beach but far enough away from the bars I had a restful night. Staff was amazing have no clue what the negative reviews were about. Room was small but pretty with custom furnishings. My back feels great which is unusual for Costa Rica hotels. Has been recently remodel as evident by new floor to ceiling tiled bathroom with clean grout. Pillows were too firm for my neck but that was the ONLY minor complete. AC was silent and super cold.

They ripped us off. Stole from us. Kicked us out to the streets and refused to call the cops after being robbed and everything taken from us in front of there office. Never once cleaned our room. Charged our card without asking. List goes on. Will be filing on them. Would not stay there if it was free.

Very nice place right on the main strip in Jaco. It’s on the quieter side which was a plus (no nightclub right next door but plenty 2-3 min walking). Pool was nice and they even had cornhole and two levels of dining area.

Roger provided the hands down best service we’ve ever gotten while traveling. If there was anything off, he would immediately take care of it.

Wish the bar was more operational and there was music playing by the pool, but those are pretty minor things. Beds were comfortable, and the AC worked great.

good location but terrible staff in my opinion

located very close to beach. 3 minute walk to beach. they had a bar but really was not open and they didn't have anything to order expect bear which was limited too. I did not find the staff too friendly. at check out, i felt i was treated like a crook as they had someone check to make sure we did not take any towels or anything else. i will not recommend this place or stay here again.

We loved staying there. Walking distance to the center of Jaco. The room and the bathroom were clean and in great conditions. They have a good pool. It has been the cleanest we have seen in our trip. I would recommend staying there if you want to stay in Jaco for a couple of days.

Good location. Located on the main strip about a block from the beach. Very basic hotel but is clean and staff is friendly. I was expecting VIP benefits that come with VIP Access but I was told my room was bigger which it looked just like a regular room and I received a bike rental for free. It didn’t feel like an upgrade.

This was the perfect option for us as best friends travelling to Jaco. From booking, to check in, to check out…we were very well looked after. Communication was excellent when arranging transportation or enquiring about the local area. The hotel felt like our own personal oasis, many times having the pool or our back patio all to ourselves. Even the other travellers we met there were super friendly and happy to be there too. I can’t say enough about the hard working staff, always smiling and eager to help. Daniel from the reception was an instant friend, with a warm and welcoming smile after a long day of travelling. The wonderful owners were on site for a part of our visit, and we had a blast talking and learning about their experiences too. Salt of the earth people that really care and appreciate your time spent there. Yes that’s you guys Paula, Tina and Chuck. Thank you so much. I cannot wait to come back to Bird of Paradise. Nice hotel & clean however, the breakfast is not a true breakfast. It’s fruit and coffee. You need to pay for parking which is something you need to clearly read at the bottom. Towels for the pool are not free. You need to pay/for sale. You need to request room service as they don’t do daily cleaning service. Only when you check out they clean. Some of the staff were not friendly.

The curtains didn't lock much light so when the sun comes up at 6:00 a.m. the room gets bright. Also at night they have bright lights outside the rooms and you can see them through the curtains. They had he makes outside the rooms which were very nice to lounge in

The hotel is very clean and the pool is meticulously maintained. I felt very safe in this property with a gated parking area and 24hr attendant at the entrance.

I was very pleased with the location of the hotel as it had immediate access to the main road in Jaco and access to a multitude of dining options.

The staff was so kind and were happy to accommodate any reasonable request.

My only critique would be that the room is very small but it was comfortable and over all I greatly enjoyed my stay.

The management are great, when we mentioned that we are not going to use the 10USD per stay for bikes they gave us complementary beer instead, the hotel is small so not much amenities but the location is great, right in the middle of all bars and restaurants and close to the beach

The only caution is the walls are thin so you will hear everyone around you including the early rising rooster who must live next door 🐓

Comfortable, luxurious stay & nice location.

Very nice property located right in town. Walked to the beach, ATV Backcountry Tours, Rioasis Pizza, Subway, and a nice Mediterranean restaurant. The room is comfortable with everything we wanted and we loved seeing the squirrels, iguanas, and birds. I worked on my computer by the pool and laid out in the sun for awhile. Front desk helped with bus information too. Would definitely stay again.

The rooms had a very traditional tropical feel to it. The rooms had an amazing smell. It was clean as can possibly be. The sheets and the bedding were literally new all white. Just made it much more comfortable to sleep. Nice large shower. There was a safe in the room as well as fridge. The pool on the property was nice and clean. Overall the location of this hotel was a close walk to the beach. Nearby a mini supermarket that sells anything you could possibly need. Plenty of restaurants very close by. We used the bus terminal that was nearby to ride into San Jose very cheap less than $5.00 per person for the 2 1/2 hr ride. I will definitely be back for my next stay.

Although we didn't spend too much time in the room, it was the perfect location for exploring Jaco - close enough to the action, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. The rooms were small, but cozy, very comfortable and clean! The bike rentals were a great perk, and the small breakfast options in the morning were a great treat to start the day. On top of it all, the staff was wonderful! Definitely will stay here again for our next trip to Jaco!

I believe the property is under renovation by a family. They are doing a great job getting the property to be a nice place to stay for an affordable price. The rooms were bright and look recently redecorated with a a lot of Costa Rican charm.

The room we had was a suite with a mini fridge, sink, storage space and two double beds in two separate rooms. This size was good for our family of 3. I liked being able to keep food and drinks in the fridge. I wish they had some basic dishes and utensils, but we grabbed some plastic ware from Mas x Menos grocery store down the road. I also wish the room had come with a coffee maker as well.

The bathroom was small, but nice and clean. The hotel provided shampoo, body wash and conditioner in big containers in the shower, which was nice.

The downfalls of this property include the ongoing construction and renovations. Some mornings, there were loud noises waking us up and the pool area had a construction project going on. We were still able to use the pool though. The courtyard has some potential as well, including grass or sand rather than gravel. The pool chairs and pillows were a nice touch we appreciated.

Another downfall is that we did have a cockroach in our room one of the nights. My husband went to get the front desk attendant and he got rid of it and sprayed. Other than that, the property was clean.

Overall, the property is walkable to many restaurants, shops and the beach. It has a lot of charm and is safe.

Pros: staff was friendly and offered good suggestions for local restaurants and activities. My daughter lived that we had 3 separate beds which meant she didn’t have to sleep with her brother.

Cons: extremely noisy atmosphere- the building is older and easy to hear what is going on outside. The worst part is there wasn’t hot water to bathe with. When I asked the lady working her response was that the solar panels had to get more sun in order for it to warm up. It was around 7 am when my family wanted to shower. We just left and went to our next destination.

Just the Basics

This hotel was adequate for a one-night stay over. The location is pretty good: just a short walk to anything in Jacó, but not too close to the nightclubs if you want to sleep. You have to wear a paper wristband which I did not care for. Other guests coming back late from the bars can be loud/disruptive. My room did not have toilet paper, which I didn’t realize until I was already on the toilet. 😬 Shower was pretty run down, but it still functioned. Bed was pretty good. Just the basics, no special frills or creature comforts.

Happiness in Jaco

The Bird of Paradise Hotel is advertised as a 3 star experience, but for my wife and I, it surpassed that rating. I travel a lot, so I could be considered somewhat of a professional when it comes to hotel rooms. I clearly enjoyed the cleanliness of the room, and the bathroom, as well as the comfortable bed, and especially the quiet efficient air conditioner. The almost silent air conditioner was a real plus for us. I also appreciated the friendly staff that made us feel right at home.

If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, quiet place close to the beach in Jacó, Costa Rica, then the Bird of Paradise Hotel is a place to consider.
