Great stay if you’re budget conscious. Pool area is beautiful and staff was friendly. Excellent location short walking distance to shops and restaurants. Our apartment could have been cleaner and better equipped but it was fine for a few days.

Rooms were quiet but made of stone which blocks the wifi signal. All guests have to be present on arrival which was not disclosed before booking a non refundable reservation. Lots of children in the pool and jacuzzi so I never could use it.

We arrived approximately one hour prior to the scheduled check in time. The staff at the front desk were courteous and spoke to us in English as our Spanish is far from good. The staff let us know that our room was ready and then walked us to our room and opened the door for us. The pool was amazingly warm and clean. The breakfast was excellent and the staff serving were very nice and prompt. The rooms were well taken care of. We were even treated to visits from Iguanas and Macaws. My wife and I would stay in this location again.

I liked the free breakfast, the lobby and restaurant staff. The bathroom wasn't too clean, with mold around the edges. The tables in room had sticky bottle and glass marks from previous stays. No coffee or sugar in room even though they has a coffee maker. The rooms have the A/C off until the guest get to room and turn it on. It was super hot for at leat an hour. Not a good experience

This hotel was not as expected. The photos posted by the hotel and on booking websites are a bit deceiving. While the downstairs rooms with kitchens looked ok through the windows, the room I was in upstairs had mold on the ceiling and looked like it had seen better days (one fluorescent lightbulb in corner of the room, curtains did not close all the way etc) . It was ok for one night, but I ended up cancelling my second night as the booking was not what I expected. To be honest, not sure I would I have stayed in the first place had I known what it was like beforehand. As mentioned, the downstairs rooms with kitchens did seem to be in better condition. While other reviewers say it is quiet, the hotel is just off the main road in jaco and I could hear motor cycles reving all night. The sign on the front desk clearly says ‘no prostitution’ as you are checking in. I recommend going on Expedia and looking at some of the lower ranking reviews with photos which might give you a better expectation. The pool was nice and breakfast was fine, great proximity to beach. Overall, fine but do not expect the hotel to look like the more edited photos advertised.

Hotel was ok a bit outdated but the mold in the apartment was all over the ceilings. Woke up with a sore throat. Pointed out to front desk and he just took pictures.

Plusses: Service was excellent. Pool was very nice. Breakfast was good. Location away from busy street was nice. Plenty of hot water for showering. Minuses: Room needs serious updating. One mattress was saggy. Bed quilts shouted 1970. Two of the nights we had swarm of flying bugs (termites) visit the inside of the room. Saw them climb behind moulding. Didn’t make for a restful night’s sleep.

Install Intercom Phones: Please provide intercom phones in every room to avoid the inconvenience of walking downstairs from the second floor for assistance.
Ensure Basic Amenities: Toilet paper was missing in my room, and there was no holder for it. The roll was simply placed on top of the toilet tank. Adding a toilet roll hanger is essential.
Fix the AC System: The air conditioning was either too hot or too cold, and the remote control didn’t work. I had to go downstairs in the middle of the night for help, and the front desk staff assisted me.
Secure Bed Backboards: The backboard of the bed was not properly attached and moved toward the wall when I leaned against it. It needs to be screwed securely to the bed frame.
Not enough light in Bathroom: It is hard to shave yourself, not enough light in bathroom.
There is no full size mirror in the bedroom

Money does not go far in Costa Rica. However this is the best value. Though this is not a western standard hotel, the real wood construction and real wood furniture give it a superior regal feel. The four pools of all different temperature suround by a tropical garden makes it a local resort. The water is chilled in some pools. At the highway a left turn across the bridge and first right street will bring you to the ocean (short pleasant walk). There is a raked beach, fancy restaurant, beach chair rental. Also across the bridge is the start of all the noisy restaurants, shops, bars and general activity of the town for 3km. The other direction (hwy right) is the quiet end town and bus station. The local CR breakfast was filling, however, you need to make reservation.

We stayed in the equipped 2 bedroom apartment. The apartment is in poor repair, the toilet did not flush and we had no hot water the first night. Cooking full meals would be very challenging here, as the only utensils provided were 2 large serving spoons. No spatula, tongs, etc. and only 1 pot and one pan. The pool by the apartments is decaying and half the furniture was so decrepit it was not useful. The main pools were nice, the common area was well maintained in the main building, and the staff were friendly and spoke English. It is only a short walk to the beach and restaurants. Breakfast at The Public House down the street was lovely albeit a little pricey by CR standards. In room massage was nice and hotel staff will help you book it.

This is a beautiful hotel with nice pools and surrounded by wonderful plants and trees. The rooms are big and include a fridge which is very important in this hot country. Jaco beach, reastaurants and bars are 3-5 minutes walk. I have enjoyed my stay a lot.

The hotel is close to town, within walking distance from shopping and restaurants. It is in great location. The hotel is a three stars hotel but service is acceptable. Tgey have multiple pools and a good place for family. The tap water had a strong smell of sulfur so we just drink bottle water. When we arrived the hotel, there were only two bath towels, and one face towel. We had to call front desk for hand towels and an extra face towel.

Fantastic stay in Sept 23. Rooms are nice and having a kitchenette was a bonus. Hotel is located half a block away from the main busy street in Jaco. Very tranquil and yet close to everything. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great.

Stayed one night in the apartment passing through the area. Clean. Safe. Quiet. Upon check-in, prominent signs stated \"no drugs\" and \"no prostitution.\" That about sums it up. Property and furniture a bit delipapidated, but good value. You get what you pay for. Pool was fun for the kids. Best part was the location to the beach, shopping, and restaurants.

The room was quirky-cute, clean, and comfortable. They staff were all very friendly and helpful. They helped me secure transport from and to SJO. The property is quiet and beautiful. I saw Macaws, iguanas, and a sweet kitty. It’s close to the main street and the beach. Lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The breakfasts were good (I’m not much of a foodie). My only minor issues were the occasional bug in the room, one morning the a/c got a bit icy, and the shower splashed out well into the bathroom. The pools are refreshingly cool. I only used the refrigerator in the kitchenette area to keep a few bottled drinks cold. The shower was nice and relaxing. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. I picked Hotel Mar de Luz on a whim and ended up very pleased.

Absolutely adorable. You'd never know this was there and so pleasing and sealed off when you approached it from the... alley? We needed an extra night in Jaco because our flight got moved a day early. We wanted a place close to dining so we could get some dinner after we got in, since it gets dark in a hurry in the tropics. My lock broke so I could not get into my room, it took 3 hours to get the door open and I was trying to get some work done remotely which was a bit of a pain but things like this happen so that’s ok but on top of this I did not have a hot shower for 3 days as there was only cold water.
On leaving I asked for some compensation for the no hot water and being locked out of my room and the owner agreed to a free night which was very fair. What he did not realize was that I was checking out so he would have to give me back money. Once he realized this he got angry told me categorically NO and told me to f**k off. He is an aggressive, nasty, rude, angry man.
My advice is just don’t stay here there are many other hotels in Jaco that actually want your business and will be more professional.

Very nice family hotel. The staff was nice and the owner was even kind enough to give us a ride to the bus station so we could carry on with the adventure. Also, if you don’t mind Iguanas you’ll have a chance to see a lot crawling around the property. They see, to be big fans of the watermelon leftovers the hotel provides them instead of throwing away after the complimentary breakfast. Personally I enjoyed their presence as they seem pretty chill.

The hotel is nicely kept clean and the grounds are beautiful. A delicious breakfast with unlimited coffee and juice. The AC units are newer and very quiet and cold. I like having a large fridge and basic kitchen. The shower is the hottest with the best water pressure I’ve experienced in 3 years in CR. You really can’t beat the location behind the craziness of the Main Street in a quiet and peaceful place!

This is a family hotel in a very busy loacation in Jaco. It was not really a romantic getaway type of hotel. The room itself was nice but the matress was old and hard. There were tons of kids yelling all through the day and night. The breakfast was great and the pool was nice but so busy.

I did not like the fact that there were a really lot of stairs and paths we had to manuver to get to and from our room. Our room over looked the pool and the bar and there was loud music and loud talking from the drunk patrons late into the night.

The rooms themselves though are outdated, covers, bedding and towels, while being clean, had stains and were worn out. My pillow felt like it was stuffed with chewed up foam.
