Great staff (really helpful), great location -- ideally located between two transit lines, with one only 4 minutes away. Lots of options nearby (5-10 mn walk) for food, konbini, bars, etc.

Really good breakfast included, with lots of options for a Western palate -- bagels, quick breads, desserts -- and a coffee bar. Cute, little bar inside the hotel for evenings, too. Have a great selection of vinyl to take back to the room, and the reception seems to always be playing amazing hip-hop classics.

they'll store luggage for you if arriving early or leaving after check-out.

washer (400 yen) and dryer (200 yen) available, and the front desk can make change for 100 yen coins.

the rooms are utilitarian. the walls were scuffed and carpet a bit dingy, but otherwise clean and functional. very firm beds, but two pillows of different types. mini-fridge was useful. the bathroom is a bit cramped and the curtain doesn't really keep out the water well, so treat it more as a wet room.

overall recommended!

I had a lovely stay. The room was small but comfortable. The record player is a thoughtful and fun amenity. Definitely glad I included breakfast because the cafe is delicious. Excellent coffee!

The neighbourhood is funky and also a breath of fresh air relative to central Tokyo. Easy to commute.

The AC couldn’t control hot or cold's individual rooms, toilet space was bit too tight for my husband (190cm tall)haha. There were no phones in the room so little inconvenient that we only had eSIM and no phone numbers on our phones..

Laundry was convenient, staff was kind, check out was a little earlier than other hotels we researched (10am). Late check out costs 20 dollars for an extra hour, 40 to make it a noon check out.

Amenities are a bare minimum, but if you’re the type to pack everything you need and not depend on the hotel this is no issue.

Room is spacious, they kept it pretty warm and there was no AC. There’s a lot of great coffee and shopping that’s walking distance, easy to get cabs, trains were a little bit of a walk.

The only thing that would keep us from booking again are the beds are more than firm. They were pretty tough to sleep on. Overall, great price but there are trade offs. Hope this helps!

An Oasis of Calm in the middle of Tokyo. Situated in the relatively quiet Shimo-Tikazawa neighborhood, and on a pedestrianized street, the Mustard Hotel was a lovely relief after a day of facing Tokyo crowds. You can sit on the expansive terrace and watch locals walking their dogs, riding their bikes. The coffee bar, which provides the breakfast is great, and the bar, open in the evenings was also a laid-back treat. Rooms are not huge, but everything is very clean and modern, and the staff was more than helpful on several occasions during my stay. Excellent choice!

If you want to stay in one of the most interesting, cool, and delux neighbourhoods in Tokyo, while enjoying a uniquely Tokyo hotel experience, Hotel Mustard is an excellent choice. The staff are super friendly and helpful; breakfast at the cafe downstairs is delicious, high quality, and convenient; and honestly, if you love vinyl records and minimalist Tokyo style, this hotel ticks all the boxes. It’s excellent value for a neighbourhood like this. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Not my kind of place, bare bones rooms, but hey they have record players in the rooms and records you can borrow in the lobby so it gets street cred points huh?
Breakfast was lame, coffee shop stuff that runs out of most stuff early, not too much in the way of choices either
I had six nights booked here and left after two to move to a better hotel
Wouldn’t stay here again
If you want super trendy Shimo-kitawaza and records to play in your room, stay here, if you want better, less expensive hotels, stay just about anywhere else

Trendy lobby and a great location in (also very self-consciously trendy) Shimo, but overall a much more youth hostel-like experience than expected at this price point. Rooms very basic; thin walls, no bath or even TV in the \"superior\" room, small feeling standard double bed up against the window (so whoever is on the wall side gets a face full of curtain and a cold draught all night). No proper lighting controls or lamps. Lots of foreign tourists staying - whether you count that as a good or bad thing, visitors excited to be in Japan for the first time (and used to what 100 bucks a night gets you in London/Paris/NYC) won't care but, having lived in Tokyo many years, we feel very aware the rooms are below standard and overpriced for what you might expect at so many business motels around Tokyo (and actually we were at a 5-star hotel the prior few days scarcely $15 more than this per night). If you want to party in Shimo or Shibuya you're paying for the location, basically, plus a little English service at reception. (Having said that, not all staff on reception wer excellent English speakers either.)

This is my favorite spot to stay when visiting family in Tokyo. Not just the convenient location to my family, but the friendly staff and the lovely coffee shop in the lobby. The rooms are Spartan—this is a Japanese-style hotel—but we spend little time in the room during our visit. The porch is along a lovely, quiet walkway, so there is no traffic when enjoying the outdoors. I love this place.

Great location and staff are nice. Great breakfast and turntables are a nice addition but the hotel is run down - walls are scuffed and marked up with large chunks missing. It feels so run down, especially at this price point. It needs a new carpet and a solid paint job. We stayed at another hotel in Tokyo that was $100 less a night and way nicer!

The hotel and surrounding area were very nice and exceeded our expectations, however, our room’s walls were extremely scuffed up by previous guest’s luggage and shoes. Because the hotel has a stark white and minimalist aesthetic, it was very distracting. Management should consider periodically cleaning the walls or repainting. Our interaction with the staff was
always enjoyable and the highlight of our stay, they did an excellent job.

Very clean and very easy to travel from hotel to the Tokyo cities. The train stations are about a ten minute walk or less. The staff is very friendly as well! They have luggage storage services so you can adventure before check in and after check out! Highly recommend staying here. The surrounding area has a variety of thrift shops and restaurants.

A really great hotel in Shimokitazawa in a very quiet location. Lots of cafes around, and walkable to the trendy Shimokitazawa neighbourhood. I stayed for a week and the whole time it was very peaceful and comfortable. The staff were all excellent, and the on-site cafe has great coffee and bagels. The rooms are quite basic, but with everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Fantastic location just above Shimokitazawa neighborhood. Rooms are small but efficient and comfortable. Read a few negative reviews about scuff marks on the walls etc. but we found the hotel very clean and having a café with bagels and coffee in the morning was perfect to start our day. The common areas awesome and used by people in the area, not just the tourist at the hotel.

Favorite hotel in Tokyo

Amazing place to stay for a couple who prefers a quiet neighborhood in Tokyo. This ended up being our favorite hotel during our 3 week stay in Japan. The place was super helpful and spoke great english. The coffee shop inside the hotel opens up early, which is pretty rare in Japan, and the quality of the coffee and food was great.

We will most likely stay here again next Japan visit.
