Very nice luxury hotel, famous for the many stays Marcel Proust had here during the early 1900s. Staff are very helpful and breakfast is excellent. Its restaurant isn’t open all 7 days of the week, but it has a nice bar. It is situated right on the beach, with a range of room options both facing the sea or a view on the lovely gardens and town of Cabourg. The colour schemes for some of rooms and corridors are a bit odd but one gets used to them quickly. Recommended for stays of a few days to relax and enjoy the seaside and offerings of Cabourg.

Loved it! Not only is the property set on the beach, it is essentially the center point of the town - a great little beach town at that. Service was excellent! They went out of their way to arrange transport for us and kept the restaurant open for us so we could eat when we arrived late. Not the most convenient place for Normandy tours but worth the extra trek if you want a bit of beach time. Definitely plan on returning!

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous! Located right on the beach with promenades, beach-front restaurants, beautiful views and just a short walking distance to the beautiful and quaint town of Cabourg with more restaurants, bakeries, shopping and amenities. The staff are extremely courteous and helpful and the hotel bar is the perfect way to end an evening. There are closer hotels to the Normandy sites, but if you don't mind driving through the beautiful French countryside, taking in the sights and exploring new experiences, restaurants, etc., you won't get better than this hotel!

Too expensive for what you get. I had several issues with this property.
1) The water temperature was erratic - freezing one second and scalding the next second, 2) I was not given an invoice when I left. They said the printer was not working, but the people in front of me did receive an invoice. They did not email an invoice either. 3) They doubted me when I said that I did not eat breakfast or order room service. I said I only owed for the room. They rudely talked about my “invoice” in French – so I would not understand what they were saying. 4) During my check out, the phone rang. The reception clerk did not put the caller on hold. Instead she made me wait about 5 minutes while she helped the French speaking caller on the phone. Bottom line – the caller was allowed to cut in line. 5) The hotel needs a great deal of repair. Some shutters on the property appeared to be seconds away from falling. 6) While I was there a film crew was using the hotel. They blocked about one third of the parking with lighting equipment and constantly blocked the entry doors, stairs, and elevators. I am from California, so I am used to film crews, but being blocked from my room and being forced to circle around several times for a space is not what you expect at a “luxury” hotel.
If you are an American stay somewhere else. They do not want you at this hotel. This hotel is an example of where the stereotype of the French being rude and arrogant comes from.

The hotel is beautiful and located on the ocean. The room was clean, spacious and equipped with slippers and robes. It was disappointing that they knew since booking that we were there to spend our 25th wedding anniversary and this was not acknowledged in any way. The cost of anything at the hotel was exorbitant, literally 5,50 euro for a can of coke and 35 euro for a buffet breakfast, which it looked like no one was at, quite apparently they are pricing themselves out of the game!
I will also note that they were quite snobby not only at the hotel but the whole region of Normandy. We visited Cabourg, Deauville, Trouville, Havre and Etretat. You really need to speak French or they don’t want anything to do with you. A store owner in Etretat commented that I could not see his jewellery because I had ice cream in a cup! It was a 30 euro pair of earrings, not the Crown Jewels! In general, the area is beautiful but we were happy to leave.

The location is great and staff was helpful but we got there the first night a little tired and ordered room service when the food arrived it was way below acceptable and it looks like they are remodeling the building from the outside but it also need tlc on the inside wallpaper falling and lights fixtures are also like they where not put in right. Oh breakfast staff was also very friendly.

We came for a long weekend, and had a wonderful time. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. Just giving them the key to our car and letting them look after it for us was a particularly helpful service, as parking in the centre of Cabourg is not easy. Also, they managed to book us in at a wonderful restaurant in the town when the hotel was fully booked the night we arrived. The bar staff and waiting staff in the hotel were also very hard working and helpful. Very interesting to meet the chef after our meal there on our second night - though our French and his English meant we could not chat for long!

The front desk staff was friendly. The hotel was clean and the renovations /updates were apparent! Our room was nice and clean, but there were two problems. First, our toilet was located in a small closet just after entering the room, but there is no sink in the closet. We had to walk around to the big bathroom to wash our hands hater using the toilet. It was a bit strange. Second, the temperature of the water in the shower would only get warm. I like a hot shower, so I was disappointed in that regard.

Lovely overall experience
I was driving from the UK to Bordeaux and stopped overnight here. I was so pleased I found this gem. The staff were so friendly and accomdating. The room was very large with great views and a very comply bed. There was a sitting area in front of large windows that opened up and the bathroom had great amenities.
I had room service as I arrived very late and breakfast in my room in the morning and it was all lovely.
I look forward to going back again when the weather is hotter!

We had an incredible time at this hotel. An old hotel with beautiful rooms, wonderful service and on an incredible beach that strethches for miles both ways and in low tide leaves 500 feet of sand before the water.
We stayed in a garden room. As well as a suite overlooking the beach. One of the best hotels I've stayed at.

Grand Hotel really a 10 / 10!
An American family visiting the Normandy coast for the 1st time - it was a great experience thanks to the central location of the hotel, as we went west one day, and east on the other. The hotel is classically beautiful, the staff always polite and helpful - and the breakfast selections were thoughtful - all delightfully consistent. We' ll be back!

Old World Beach Resort with Modern amenities
Le Grand Hotel Cabourg has a turn of the century ambiance in the public areas, but the rooms are up to date with very chic somewhat Art Deco style furnishings. The location on the boardwalk couldn't be better.

We enjoyed our overnight stay and evening meal. Some piano music would have been nice, but although there was a piano, there was no pianist (a Thursday evening). Also enjoyed the facilities of the beach close by. Would have liked a peep into the room where Marcel Proust slept during his visits years ago.

Stayed here for two nights so that we could visit Normandy. The first night we walked into the town, shopped along the main street and had dinner. The hotel is right on the beach, but it was too cool for swimming.

very nice hotel in a cute neighborhood...the WiFi, sadly, was very bad and unreliable, even though we had to pay for it. The hotel staff was rather stuffy and not really \"hospitable\". We have stayed in other Accor hotels and, even though they are nice and many are \"5 star\", they have been very personable. I don't think it was a language barrier either...the facilities are terrific and the town of Cabourg is super cute and charming and the views into the English Channel and sunsets are amazing...

A once lovely historic hotel which has been massacred by interior designers. Now the interior looks like a hotel for nouveau riche Russians in Odessa. At $ 307,50 a night for a small seaside room it is way overpriced, you don't even get a complimentary newspaper.
I'll gladly return when the botched interior decoration is replaced by one fitting the historic setting of Marcel Proust's \"À la recherche du temps perdu\".

Yes!!! This is a grand hotel! like its name; is elegant, comfortable, clean, great food and good service. The town is very small and charming, but has strict ours of operation, so take precautions and rent a car ahead to visit other areas in the region. Great place to relax! Get the ocean front view!

One of the best!
The staff at this hotel understands service and anticipates needs and requests. In our modern world this hotel stands out. It is as if from another age. Proust would be proud. And the food is wonderful. Restaurant service was stellar and nearly perfect. Bar service was a little slow but when the ambiance is so relaxing this is a quibble. We will be back, and probably many times.

We enjoyed our stay very much and appreciated the efforts made by the hotel to provide boards with relevant observations and comments by Proust which were fresh in our minds from a re-reading as we prepared for our visit. Both the hotel and the town are famous for their literary associations. This is a lovely hotel with helpful and friendly staff and in a beautiful location. We would love to return.

Luxury while keeping traditional beauty. Our garden view room had the best city view you could get in Cabourg opening on the architectural great urban design of the city. The ocean view from the restaurant could not be better as it is practically on the promenade. The dinner was a gastronomical one at a reasonable price considering the location and atmosphere.

Grand Hotel but Cabourg could use a little work
The hotel was very nice and there was obvious thought given to how to make the room as comfortable as possible. Our garden-side room was quite large, and the bathroom was a comfortable size with nice amenities. We liked having an electric kettle available for coffee and tea since we didn't want to take the time for breakfast in the morning. Our visit in October was off season for this beach community and so we used the hotel as our base and made trips to Caen and Bayeux. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful making dinner reservations and giving directions. The main street in the town was under construction so it was barely walkable and not passable by car. The casino is right next door to the hotel and in the middle of the night there was a brawl on the lawn in front of the hotel involving at least a couple dozen people that the police only responded to after an hour of drunken fisticuffs and shouting. It seemed like an unusual event for what is an upscale area.

This is a fantastic 5 star hotel although did lack some of the 5 star features that you may find in a UK 5 star hotel. That asside the service was great the room was a very large high ceiling period decorated room and with a great view of the gardens at the front of the hotel. The breakfast was excelent and included in the deal for us and had so much choice and quality items. We did not eat an evening meal here as looked a little expensive and we wanted to try a local fish resturant that had been recomended. Good loaction for beach and prominard and hotel parking was handy as streets looked busy and dificult to park, also handy for a number of local resturants etc.

Very nice hotel. We stayed two nights with family in two rooms. Rooms were very large and very nice. Hotel was right on the beach and just as advertised. Very nice old grand hotel. Little town nearby was also very nice, reminded me of little seaside towns in Maine here in the States. Only complaint I had was that in one room the air conditioning didn't work properly, there was thankfully a nice breeze from ocean. They did on the second night move the one room to a huge suite Oceanside which was nice as well but the air conditioning in that room didn't work as well! Thankfully that room had a side window in the bathroom that let the breeze circulate so the sleeping weather ended up being perfect.

Hotel should nit be 5 star- no pool- no spa as stated- paper cups for tea and coffee in room - deliveries and emptying of bottle banks and lorries reversing with the reversing beep going constantly below our room and lawn mowers being fired up at 6 am ! Hotel charges 24 euros for nothing special breakfast- also do not have own private part of beach - charge you 40 euros a day to for 2 sun loungers and parasol - we had 5 people so 80 euros and one didnt have x 7 dsys 560 euros total and 24 euros a day x 5 for breakfast - 120 euros a day x 7 - crazy never worth it - restaurant crazy prices dong mind paying if food amazing but was not - would not recommend stay in a properly rated 5 star hotel- one positive bed very comfortable - but too noisy outside to enjoy it !

Housekeeping Team let the Hotel down
Having stayed in many Hotels throughout the World in my time I thought by booking a 5 star Hotel I would get 5 star treatment. Not so with the Housekeeping staff, the complimentary bottle of water put in the room on the first day was the only one we received despite having drunk nearly all the water on the second day, we were booked for a 4 day stay, on the 3rd day the soap was not replenished nor the breakfast tea bags , and on the 4th day things went from bad to worse I had to go to Reception to ask for breakfast tea bags milk, bath oil, and body lotion, for the cost of the Hotel I expect not to have to ask for these items.
Another point, why in a 5 star Hotel do they provide plastic cups for your use, this is unacceptable.
I would have liked to direct my comments to the Hotel Manager but could not find an e mail address for him or her, the sad thing is my comments will probably be dismissed a pity I would like to have had some feedback about my comments.
