We had a great stay at the Barriere Royal. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. As we are kosher they not only were able to heat up our food for us but picked it up for us since the establishment wouldn’t deliver. The spa was great, breakfast was delicious and expansive. It is right off the beach and walking distance to all the great shopping. The hotel does feel like it needs a refresh - much of the decor is old. Also I was disappointed to have been charged such a hefty fee to get a beach chair given that it is a beach hotel.

I would give this place a 4.5 if possible. The service was absolutely fantastic. Check-in was smooth and easy and the valet was fabulous after a long driver. The location was great. The restaurant was fabulous for dinner and breakfast. Our only knock was the room was a little dated and small. I would definitely stay here again.

All was well. Except for two things

For an hotel of this class there should be USB ports to charge phones and ipads in the room. There weren’t and it wasn’t easy to recharge. The plugs weren’t firm enough to stand the plug converters and there was no surface near the bed or near a table.

The staff was very helpful but some looked like students who were a bit at sea. Maybe think about more training?

But except for this, all was fine

This is a very nice hotel, just across the large Deauville beach. Room was big enough, big bathroom in superb condition and very clean. Excellent breakfast. Rooms could be a bit in better shape, given that this is a 5 star hotel. And room service could have been more focused in details: for instance, a seagull left a little \"present\" in one of our windows, and 2 or 3 full days passed without the room service cleaning it. But overall, a very nice option for this charming town.

I just returned to this hotel after 10 years and overall I was very disappointed. The hotel is very outdated and needs a full refurb. Bathrooms are from the 80s. There are cracks on the facade and on the asphalt in front of the hotel and by the pool area. The pool area have employed young inexperienced staff.
Once we arrived to the hotel we headed straight to the pool area to have a late lunch. We were given a table which supposedly had been cleaned and set up for us but which had pieces of spaghetti in gaps on the table, also bread crumbs and parmesan from previous guests on the placemats, seriously disgusting. When I informed the waitress, she didn’t even apologise, tried to remove some of the spaghetti which was trapped in a gap on the table and just said “sorry my fingers aren’t small enough to remove the rest”. She could have just come with a knife or scissors to scrape it up.
Also when we arrived to lie down by the pool, nobody even checked if we were from the hotel and though the poolboy saw that I was struggling to raise the parasol, he didnt do anything. I had to waive and call for him to come over.
At breakfast the avocado at the buffet was mouldy- anyone could see that with the naked eye.
The only positives: the bar which has a very nice feel to it, the location, and last but not least the concierge Frank. He is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly and goes above and beyond!!
That said, I will not be returning.

Aging remnant of a bygone era with overpriced food

A classic hotel that's showing its age. The service is friendly and attentive. The decor and furnishings are showing their age, verging on shabbiness. The room was comfortable, air conditioned, with excellent blackout shades. The shower in our room was almost unusable (low water pressure and very sluggish temperature control). Most disappointing is the food; the offerings are of reasonable quality, but at twice or more the price I would expect to pay; 20-25 euro for cocktails, 25 for an unremarkable hamburger or sandwich. We considered going all-in on dinner at the restaurant but realized it would be 300 or more euros for what was probably typical bistro fare.

Great location, good pool, excellent service and food. No air con can be a problem at times. Small private car park, but plenty near by so not a real issue unless you have an expensive car and want it kept close by.

Nice hotel, problems with food service

I loved the hotel and the location. Also the bed was amazing!! Most comfortable I’ve had in ages and great luxe bedding. That said, we grabbed dinner in the bar area Saturday evening and waited over an hour for our food. When we asked what happened they said there was a kitchen mishap and it would be coming soon. I was shocked that a five-star hotel wouldn’t have better service. Obviously it’s fine if there was a problem in the kitchen but not one person that worked there came over to inform us of this problem and that there would be a delay. Also when we got the food they didn’t seem very apologetic for the extremely long wait. To make it worse the food was just bland once we actually got it. I’d suggest staying at the hotel and maybe having drinks there but definitely going out for lunch and dinner. My other small complaint is that we put the do not disturb sign on our door and the housekeeping still came in to make up our room even though we asked that no one into our room.

ROOM WITH SEA VIEW WAS SOOOO SMAL COULD HARDLY WALK AROUND THE BED. GUESS WE HAD BAD LUCK AS I KNOW THEY HAVE BETTER ONES ... FOUND AT MIDNIGHT HUGE NASTY MOSQUITO FLYING AROUND SO WE CALLED THE CLEANING LADY TO GET RID OF IT .. AT 3 AM FOUND ANOTHER THAT I KILLED MYSELF ... AT 7AM FOUND ANOTHER ONE ... ROOM SHOULD FOR SURE BE DESINFECTED !!! HOTEL NEEDS TO BE RENEW .. KIND OF OLD. WE SAW MAJOR WATER LEAKS IN THE CORRIDORS ... FOOD IS EXCELLENT AND STAFF ADORABLE.

Beautiful hotel great location, everything was wonderful, but service was very slow. Slow at the bar, slow at the pool restaurant and front desk ha d to ask house keeping had to make up two single beds not one large double. Hopefully service will improve as I would like to stay there again.

The property is grand and impressive. The views from the top floors were spectacular. The staff were very helpful and kind. The buffet breakfast was also very good. My only complaint was that our room had a very slow draining sink and a shower that leaked onto the bathroom floor. I would usually not complain about things like this, but at nearly $600/night after resort fees and taxes, I expect a little more.

The concierge likewise was very effective with the taxi arrangements to Caen securing a fixed fee for the trip. The boardwalk in front was lovely and the town delightful.

In need of a revamp

Nice hotel but not worth a 5 star rating. Rooms are NOT air conditioned or even have a fan to use so when its upwards of 20 degrees the rooms are just too hot. This means you have to keep the windows open all night and its very noisy outside what with seagulls screeching all through the night and road traffic noise. The separate toilet in the bedroom does not have a window or extraction so nowhere for smells to go. All in all not great. Have stayed in lots of 4 star and 5 star hotels and this one was the worst. Outside areas not clean (seating area outside the bar). On the upside the hotel's restaurant, although dated decor, serves lovely food by great staff.

We arrived at 5pm but had to wait an hour for our room to be made up. The staff were very polite but sooooooo slow doing anything. As an apology we received an upgrade. The room itself was big and well appointed but had no air con. We stayed for two nights and the temperature was unbearable. We had patio doors not a window, so we couldn't open them as they were clanging about

Great corner room, good size. Unfortunately, like most hotels in France, there was no air conditioning. So, even with the windows open it was hot in the afternoon, although it did cool down at night. Outdated lobby with red velvet chairs. Great location within walking distance of the beach and the downtown area near many excellent shops and restaurants.

We arrived on a very warm day - what shame there was no air conditioning. Both the corridors and our room were uncomfortable as a result. We dined at the restaurant that evening - great food but still uncomfortable so detracted from the experience. Would not recommend during summer.

We arrived at 4:00 pm. Surprisingly, the room was not ready. The room was delivered to us at 5:30 pm. service was moderate. We had to ask waitress several time or call housekeeping 2-3 times to follow up our request.

Beautiful hotel but...

This is a really beautiful old hotel, but it is a bit tired. The structure is grand and lovely, and the room was very spacious. However, the many layers of paint were peeling in certain areas, and it looked like it could do with a refresh.

We arrived early...around noon and were told that our room was not ready and to check back at 3:00pm. After having lunch and returning to the hotel promptly at 3, the room was still not ready. We waited another hour in the lobby before our room was available. The room was nice as was the property. It was decorated nicely for the holidays and the staff was pleasant.

After 2 weeks at different hotels in Normandie we ended with 2 nights stay at Hotel Barriere and had a most wonderful time.
The newly renovated junior suite was very nice and comfortable. The hotel service was on top level with in each aspect a very high class all the way with very friendly staaf.

The breakfast was fantastic in a most wonderful environment at the main restaurant!

We had an excellent dinner at the main restaurant with our children 2, 5 years old. A jazz band played Lousiana style and created an unusual relaxed atmosphere and an all together great feeling of fashionable -20:s at glance.
Even our children seemed to enjoy the evening as they very unusually happy and quiet....
True fine dining with excellent food and nice wines. We got absolute value for the money and very nice memories.

Day after they recommended and booked us in at another fantastic restuarant couple not far from the hotel. That evening has also become a pleasant memory.
We can defintely recommend hotel Barriere Le Royal and we will be back next year.

The Hotel staff was wonderful, friendly and interested in our comfort. The location was great. Our room looked out over the ocean. Breakfast was grand, in fact the staff knew we were there to celebrate my husbands birthday, so the morning of his birthday, champagne was sent to our table, complimentary! Birthday dinner was excellent. Definitely take advantage of the board walk and lovely shopping within walking distance.

The staff arranged a private tour of the beaches and WWII sights....great guides and well worth the expense.

My only complaints...our bathroom was not as clean as I would a like, but still acceptable. One guide used a more profanity than I like and also had us stop at a winery, which wasted precious time.

Would highly recommend this hotel!

Old fashioned luxurious hotel.

Great resort. Close to the beach although you have to cross a couple of roads to get to it. Fairly close to shops. Excellent Hotel service what you would expect at this level. Great facilities including the use of other local amenities. Nice pool although sun beds can be all reserved before you arrive! As you can see from the photos the hotel is quite old fashioned and room decor and bathrooms look tired. It was a good experience but probably all a little over the top and old fashioned for us. Menu obviously quite pricey and drinks. Breakfast ridiculous price too so can't comment on food. Staff went out of their way to accommodate us all in bedrooms next door to each other.

We have stayed in this hotel many times. Each time we are very pleased with the level of high standard it exhibited. From the full valet parking ,efficient friendly check in with upgrade to beautiful sea view room, we are very pleased. This time we were upgraded again and surprisingly, the same room we have during Easter holiday. We are thrilled.
The gourmet restaurant was always high standard and the price was reasonable.
Pierre , manager at the restaurant was exceptional helpful.
Managed to have some tan top up and a swim at the heated pool.
Great weekend.
I am sure I will be back !

Fabulous Hotel

Our overnight stay at The Royal Barriere was fabulous in every way. The room and large bathroom were beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. We had an absolutely superb meal at the hotel's smaller restaurant, certainly Michelin star standard. The following morning we had a lovely leisurely breakfast, from the excellent range on offer at the hot and cold buffet, which certainly more than set us up for our onward journey. This hotel offers a real touch of luxury and I would definitely recommend it to friends.

On arrival they showed us a terrible room , although we booked a Superior room ! After complaining, the room improved,
but it took 5 hours to move the luggage from the first room into the new room.
The hotel is old and tired with old bathrooms. The pool was nice but they wanted to charge 15,-- Euros extra to use the pool.
(per day!) The service in the bar was impossible. We ordered some wine which never came.
The reception staff was excellent!

Fantastic stay, upgrade us to sea view deluxe room with breakfast.
valet parking is great, all the staffs are very attentive. That's why I come back for the third time ! Gourmet restaurant is very high standard and the captain is extremely helpful to allow us to bring our Bichon to sit with us.

Long Weekend at Deauville

The rooms require a refit (which is meant to happen this year) but are very clean and well kept. Lovely old feel about the hotel, the communal areas are excellent. Gymnasium is a little on the small side, but OK. The staff are the real prize of this hotel. They could not do enough for my group. Any request to the concierge/housekeeper was performed within minutes.Nothing was a problem or too much for them.
I stayed two weekends before at the new Barrierre in Lille. These two hotels are like chalk and cheese. The staff are poles apart in their care of customers. it's amazing as they are in the same group.
I would stay at the Royal again.
Please Barriere don't go mad on the refit and keep its charm.

Fantastic hotel, truly 5 star in every respect. As expected, prices were rather steep so we decided not to go for breakfast in the hotel (30 euros per person) but instead walk less than 5 minutes to one of many cafes in the centre of Deauville. When it came to paying for the bill we were charged for breakfast for 2 days which we had not had. However, when we pointed this out to the receptionist the 120 euros were crossed off the bill without any problems whatsoever. We had a room with partial sea view which was better than expected. The room size was generous and the bathroom really nice. Amongst the free toiletries was even a small perfume, which was a lovely touch. The only shame was that the hotel provided a bottle of mineral water on the first day only. Surely it would not have cost too much to put a new bottle in our room every day, just as an extra treat.

Grand Hotel

It was a \"Grand Hotel\" in the old-world style and if you like massive grand hotels you will be satisfied. I prefer smaller more intimate hotels so I will probably look for a 30-60 room style hotel next time. Room was nice and we were right across the road from the beach.

Séjour parfait

Accueil et visite de l'hôtel impeccable. L'hôtel est magnifique. Les chambres sont spacieuses et confortable. Équipées de tout le nécessaire. Piscine et spa très bien. Salle de sport bien équipée. Très bon petit déjeuner.

De ligging van het hotel is goed, prijzen zijn wel duur zoal voor de accommodatie als restaurant en ontbijt en parking. Parkeren is slecht, mijn wagen is door de valet parking beschadigd door onvoorzichtige parkeerwachters en dan ook nog bevuilt door uitwerpselen van de vogels. Geen aanrader!

Le charme désuet de l’ancien. Mais léger

Le charme désuet de l’ancien. Et le confort désuet d’un hôtel qui n’investit pas. Le séjour s’est bien passé mais : propreté juste (XV avec du calcaire, poussière), literie bof, odeur de cigarette à l’arrivée, l’enfer pour stabiliser une température d’eau acceptable. En bref c’est élégant mais nul en service, à ce prix !

Très très bien mais une déco un peu datée.

Très bel hôtel, très bien situé avec un personnel à l'écoute, très professionnel et réactif. Locaux très spacieux et grande chambre.
Déco un peu datée et parfum trop fort dans les couloirs.
Cabine de douche très vielle. Déco chambre à l'ancienne.
