This is a great property as a place to lay your head when traveling around the island. Some of the instructions on getting around, check in, and check out were confusing and depending on where you look for it (via website, text, email, handbook in the room) there was conflicting information. While being in the middle of nature and local living is part of the experience, if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs and an eye mask. Those coquís and other habitat like to be loud in the evenings and mornings. The breakfast room is open 24/7 which was a huge bonus as it had an ice maker and microwave along with kitchen utensils. The room itself was pleasant and was spacious for a solo traveler. The area felt safe as the location is gated.

We stayed 5 nights and it truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, everything was seamless. Check -in was easy, and parking was super convenient.

The grounds and landscaping are absolutely stunning. Pictures honestly don’t do it justice. Our room was spotless, smelled fresh, and the bed was so comfortable. Having access to a kitchen was also a huge plus and came in handy throughout our stay.

This place really didn’t miss a single detail. Falling asleep to the sounds of the rainforest was the cherry on top. The entire vibe is so quaint, peaceful, and relaxing.

10/10 recommend we would absolutely stay here again.

It was very convenient for everything close to a lot of beaches, Walmart, fast foods and restaurants and the breakfast part even that we don't eat there was very nice. Very super clean and friendly staff. However you can hear everything a lot of noises in the evening from others staying there. Very small trash can just one. No even a small tv. We used the same towels the whole stay. No iron for the clothes. No much illumination for my wife make-up. And the pin from inside doesn't work I have to jump the fence to opening from outside in order to get out from there the last day.

Ok for solo travelers, too tiny for a couple, space not well distributed. Example; you have plenty of chairs and tables in the outside and balcony why have more in the room being so tiny. I recommend an inchannel door for the bathroom. Toilet with no room to sit and stretch your right leg. Wasnt cleaned properly with dirty glass and spider webs. You can get rid of the small fridge, not needed since you have 24hr kitchen in the downstairs.

This is an amazing property for families with teens! The guesthouse has 3 separate units that allowed kids to have their own rooms. The outdoor covered patio was perfect for gathering, meals, and listening to the coqui frogs in the evening. The main unit has a full kitchen and a bonus indoor hammock! The guesthouse is secluded from the rest of the units and has a private gated entrance. The property is in a quiet area yet close to beaches and other attractions. I would definitely recommend!

All potential visitors should read about Mata on their website- it is not your everyday hotel. The rooms are (nicely) converted shipping containers as shown. They are smaller than your average hotel room. Great for sleeping and showering.
The breakfast area/ room offers morning cereal, toast, waffles juices and coffee. It is self -serve. The coffee machine offers many coffee types as well as hot chocolate.
It was delicious- above average.
Note- this is self check-in and departure. Communication is by email. The property is gated.
The grounds offer numerous sitting areas, many shaded. They are well maintained. The pool area is pleasant and has seating as well as shaded hammocks.

The staff was great. Whenever you needed anything they were on it. The room is small so for those that enjoy tiny living...this is great. We may go for the suite next time. The grounds we kept nice and clean at all times. The staff cleans the chairs and hammocks daily for the guest to sit and enjoy. The neighbors have chickens and dogs. The sound of the coqui was awesome. We loved it. The Luquillo beach is only 10 mins from the guesthouse. There are plenty of great places to eat in the local area. Luquillo was only 30-40 mins from San Juan. It was nice to get away from the hustle of San Juan. There is also no tv in the room, so bring a tablet for your favorite shows.

Here is a more professional and polished version of your review:
Upon arrival, I was disappointed to find that the room was significantly smaller than depicted in the property’s photographs, which appeared misleading. The bathroom was not clean upon check-in; it contained visible pubic hair on the floor, along with discarded wrappers and containers from previous guests’ personal items.
When I promptly reported these issues to management, it took approximately 24 hours to receive a response. They initially assured me the room had been cleaned and was ready for use. However, upon returning later that evening, I found the bathroom in the exact same unclean condition as before. Management later acknowledged that they had received inaccurate information from staff regarding the cleaning status.
The matter was eventually addressed, and as a gesture of apology, the property offered a six-pack of local beer and a small bouquet of flowers picked from the grounds. While I appreciate the effort to make amends, the overall experience fell short of acceptable standards.
The water pressure in the shower was extremely low—comparable to a trickle—making it difficult to use effectively. That said, the grounds are attractive and well-maintained, and the location is convenient for exploring the nearby rainforest.
I would only consider this property suitable for a very brief one-night stay when the primary purpose is to visit the surrounding natural attractions. I would not recommend it for long

Yard work was being done early in the morning two days in a row. Would have appreciated it being done during blocked off dates when guests aren't staying there. Other than that everything else was great but that made my mornings unpleasant.

Fun, pretty place. Nicely decorated. Because it's made out of shipping containers the rooms are a bit snug. Breakfast offerings are basic. Worked well for an overnight in transit. Not sure how it would work for a longer stay but it's fun.

Overall a nice place to stay. The room and facilities are clean and well maintained. Be aware that the rooms are storage containers so they are tiny (may be better for 1 person or 2 smaller people), not well ventilated (the sheets and all of our clothing was slightly damp the whole time), and not well insulated so you can here other guests if they are loud. If you are not looking for all the frills and just want a nice clean space to sleep so you can explore the island and local beaches, then this is a fairly good choice.

The staff on the grounds are incredibly warm and friendly. Yes the rooms are small (be sure you are comfortable with you’re comfortable with your friend/partner), but it is built on an ecologically friendly model from containers and locally owned. There are some issues with humidity as its located in/next to the rainforest, but that’s to be expected

Such a great experience! The rooms are quite small, but it gave the exact rainforest stay vibes I was looking for! The breakfast room was a great bonus - it even had bug spray and sunscreen! The grounds were clean. We loved looking for coqui frogs at night! Absolutely recommend!!

Grounds were beautiful. Guests should know this is an extremely small room. Too small for our taste. If you have more than one suit case you will be cramped. Room was humid, muggy, and musty. Ac helped but has too get real cold to get moisture out of air. Breakfast is limited too fruit, toast, and waffles.

Hotels.com took us to wrong address in dangerous area. Room entry code didn't work. Had to call the service twice. Unmanned facility. Tiny rooms, tiny shower. Property gate didn't always close. Noisy because rooms are so tightly packed together.

We believe it would benefit you to have a little variety for your breakfast. Would also suggest you have a small shelf area in the breakfast room where you put towels so people can swap them out every few days. The shower in Unit six has water coming out of the drain so it doesn't all come out the shower head. The water was never very hot but it was warm. Even with these issues we would stay there again because the staff was so nice.

The room is tiny like very small the host was not friendly at all she is borderline rude.We had to ask for pillows and covers the first two night I did not get any sleep, when taking a shower the water gets all over the place I spen a lot of time booths flor. The only positive part is that the yard is pretty nice .

I highly recommend staying at this place if you would like to submerge yourself in the sounds of the jungle! The bedroom I rented was petite, but was efficiently built and thought out to make the most out of the space. It had a balcony with a gorgeous view of the forest. The bed was comfortable and the room had a mini fridge.

The pool and lounging areas were neat and comfortable.

The breakfast room featured a self-serve breakfast and snacks throughout the day, which was convenient, but if you are looking for a nutritious and delicious breakfast you will need to eat out.

The staff was prompt with their responses when I contacted them through WhatsApp. Even their welcome message thoroughly had all the information we needed to access the property.

The room was in great condition and it is good if you just plan on sleeping and showering there. It was smaller than expected. When you walk in it’s just a bed in the middle of the room and a bathroom to the left. Super small shower. The breakfast was just crackers and peanut butter jelly sandwiches. Didn’t even use the pool, felt a little deceived by the advertisement. Overall it was a peaceful experience and great if you don’t plan on using the amenities.

The property grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. I would add that the room itself is very small, especially if two guest stay in the same room. The bed is large enough to sleep two but the space in the room is limited to a small walk way along the bed, small area in front of the bed and patio. A rental car is recommended since walking along the highway is not really a good idea. There is small market and restaurant down the road.

I really enjoyed my time at this hotel in Luquillo. The place is beautiful and extremely clean — they do a great job keeping everything spotless. The room was small but very comfortable. The bed and pillows were cozy.
The staff, although few, were very attentive and welcoming.
There are just a couple of things that could be improved. It would be nice if they provided coffee in the rooms since they already include a coffee pot and cups. Also, the continental breakfast could use a bit of an upgrade — mostly boxed pastries and sugary cereals like Froot Loops. It would be great to have some fresh options like bagels, baked goods from a local bakery, or healthier choices like oatmeal.
Overall, it was a very nice stay, and I would definitely come back!

The property was very aesthetically pleasing. There was a lit pool and hammocks outside. Additionally, there was a place where one could sit with friends or family and eat together. The rooms were cozy stacked train trailers (15’x12’est) which included a stand-up shower in the bathroom (4’x12’est). There’s air conditioning which did really well. We actually bought a blanket because we were cold. The only issue was that the air conditioning unit seemed to have mold above it on the wall and ceiling. There isn’t any ventilation unless you’re opening doors or windows with no screens. With it being right up against the rainforest, we found the bugs and lizards would quickly try to enter. It would be really nice if there was a built-in ventilation system that helped with the moisture that’s always in Puerto Rico and was present even more so due to the air conditioning unit. Other than that, it was an amazing location.

I recently stayed at Mata e Platano Guesthouse and overall had a pleasant and relaxing experience. The space is peaceful and surrounded by nature. I enjoyed the pool area, it's a lovely place to unwind. The pool technically stays open until 10pm, which is great, though I did notice it stops filtering around 4pm, so by the evening there were some bugs and leaves floating.

The room was small but cozy, and I liked the simplicity of the space. They provide a first aid kit and mosquito repellent, which is a thoughtful touch, though both are stored in the breakfast room and since that room is locked after 10am, you can’t access them later in the day if you need them.

They offer a light breakfast with sweet snacks, crackers, bread (though no butter), and usually one fruit. I’d recommend they update the listing to say “morning snacks” instead of “breakfast” to better reflect what’s provided. On our first morning, the breakfast room was still closed at 7am even though they stated it opened at 6am, we had to call for them to unlock it, which was inconvenient.

Noise from the upstairs guests was a major drawback. You can hear every footstep, and it went on well past 1am, making it hard to sleep. Also, the bed sheets had stains, which made the room feel a little less cared for than expected.

The hosts were always responsive when we called, and that gave us some peace of mind. Considering the downsides, I do feel the price is a bit high for what’s offered.

We were so grateful that there was a generator so we had power! Location is very convenient both to shopping, beaches and close to San Juan. Luquillo has a cute Downtown with restaurants as well. The rooms are very small but was enough for the two of us. Buy cream or milk and breakfast items as they have coffee but only powdered creamer and not much for breakfast.

This property is very unique in its build. We were pleasanty surprised on how nice it was to stay in the converted cargo containers. Located 1/2 way between El Yunque National Forest and Fajardo to do the bioluminescence tour, it was very convenient. The property is very well kept. While there is no host on site, they were very responsive with texts on What's App. If you follow the provided pins, it is extremely easy to find.

Need more options for breakfast, like bagels, toaster oven, boiled eggs, fruits, etc... We stayed for 7 days and I expected more options for breakfast.
There were fruit flies in the room every day.
The a/c should not blow directly to the bed. It made sleeping very cold even when we raised the temperature.
The room had a stale smell that would not go away.
