Staff was great! And the room was designed very well for the small space.

The negative was their eco system for the AC. It was a hot day and my 1 yr old daughter and I were napping, and I guess because we were so still the air had turned off. It was so hot in the room and it took forever for the room to cool down.

Oh my Goodness. We loved this hotel. It was retro remodeled. It was located in the perfect spot on Venice beach.

The view from our top floor room was beautiful. We also visited the rooftop restaurant for lunch one day. We ran to the rooftop to see the sunset over the ocean one evening. The Erwin is the tallest hotel with the best sunset view on Venice Beach.

The hotel offered bikes for use, tennis rackets, volleyballs, conhole, sunscreen, coolers, paddle tennis equipment and toys at no charge. We took the bikes for a ride to Santa Monica (my favorite place on earth). We rode round trip a little over 3- miles. The biking path and walking path are wonderful. The riding path is well-kept, safe and wide.

The hotel is adorable. Our room was exactly how we imagined it. The free breakfast was beyound how we imagined it would be. The offerings were healthy, fresh made, and served with hospitality. We loved breakfast. Usually free breakfast means, danishes, friut and cheap coffee. No, we were offered premium coffee, delicious eggs, sausage, fresh-squeezed orange and grapefruit juice, freshly-made waffles, and fruit. This was a pleasant surprise. We normally go out for breakfast or pay for breakfast at the hotels we stay at. This free breakfast was hearty. The staff that served us was wonderfully friendly.

The concierge was helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. He is the man in the know. He was so pleasant to speak with every morning and afternoon upon our return.

If you’re only looking for location, then it’s a 5/5. It’s in the heart of Venice Beach and 1 minute to the water. Outside of that, the actual hotel is pretty terrible. We paid for the Epic View. Definitely not epic. The photo of the room when booking indicated it’s ocean facing. Maybe 5% of our view was the ocean. The shower didn’t drain. We showered in a 1” puddle every morning. The towels had stains. We killed a spider. Paint is chipped on the wall. If you’re on the top floor, you can’t be a light sleeper. The restaurant upstairs kept me up all night. We did get one complementary bottle of water to share between the two of us that we could refill from the hallway.

My wife and I were duped by Expedia. The hotel as a whole was in poor condition. The carpet and couch in the room was very dirty and at end of life. 1 cleaning would not refurbish. All of the hallways had a nasty smell. I was deceived by the pictures on Expedia web. And the price. Over $700.00 us. Please don’t become a victim.

On the Expedia ad, it offered shuttle service from the airport which was ideal for us and the reason we opted to stay. Then found out they don’t. They were aware that it was on the websites as an option and the woman said they needed to change it but it hadn’t been addressed.

My stay was great thank you guys , but the check in was horrible. Went through third party I got a confirmation number etc and I was in the lobby for about 20-40 minutes because there was no “proof” of purchase even with a confirmation email , number /etc. Thankfully I was able to get into the room but yeah that was a pretty rough part of this trip

The room was strange and could be cleaner. The shower door goes both ways which is unsafe- should open outward only. The sink counter is made of some material that leaves it looking ever dirty. The bathroom has a barn door that leaves zero privacy for someone on the toilet. The gap is an inch on either side. Yikes! The closet where there’s a door to ?? has a light that comes on at night while passing by. Creepy. There is what seems an all night party on the block so lots of music for hours (not bad but something to consider if you have children or are sound sensitive). It’s a vibrant space but not everyone wants that.
There are two amenity fees which I didn’t understand but seem to have been credited and returned… eventually. That totaled $240. for a prepaid room. It’s not a hold, it’s a charge.
The (king) bed is comfortable and perfect, as is the room temperature and made for an exceptionally restful night, even with the continuous party outside. Note: we were there on a Friday night only so maybe the sound is not the norm.
I don’t recommend this property.

Great staff, best location, beds were super comfy, the free breakfast was fine, even for me (gluten free)—scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, yogurt, bread and bagels, juice, coffee and tea.

The only note, I traveled w a friend of mine and the sink area is in the room with no door. Then the door to the toilet/shower doesn’t close well—there’s open space around the door which is awkward. You can hear everything from the bathroom so I kept my playlist on loud.

Lovely, clean hotel with amazing views in the heart of Venice Beach. Close to great coffee, food, drink and shopping.

I had the level 6 Epic View room which delivered on the description provided. It is right below the rooftop bar so you could hear the music at night, however, the staff were upfront about this and offered to relocate me if it becaame an issue. It wasn't.

Breakfast was included - small space but perfectly functional and convenient.

Only downside was the hotel amenities fee that was charged at $40 per night upon departure. That took me by surprise. I think this needs to be called out upfront as part of this booking in the same way that taxes and fees are, since it's not an optional charge.

It was a great experience until Monday morning that we found bed bugs in the bed. We talked to front desk about it and moved us to another room because bed bugs are gross for a nice hotel like this. They gave us late check out and we were told they were going to wave the destination fee. The person who helped us said he wish he could give us the free stay but since we booked through a third party site the destination fee was all that could be taken off. I was still charged a destination fee for one day.

First, you must valet or park somewhere nearby sketchy. The area around there was sketchy and unsafe with people wandering the streets all night and sleeping all over the sidewalks and beach. The room needs updating. The bathroom had mold in the caulk and gaps in the tile which who knows what’s underneath. They charge a ridiculous amount for any beverage or snack in the room. The place seems gimmicky almost. Not a nice beach vacation like we had hoped. Then for two of us, I got slammed with an additional $320 for 3 nights for the forced valet and I’m not sure what else. Needless to say, that was a surprise and I definitely would have booked somewhere else. Won’t be returning.

We dropped off our bags at 9:00am with an incredibly helpful gentleman.
We returned at 11:00am to check-in. Two gentleman helped us, clearly explained the amenities available at no charge - beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, breakfast, etc.
The room was massive!

If you’re staying in Venice Beach this is the place!!!

The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the balcony is great to sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. The rooftop bar is what really makes this place. Nice cocktails and share plates. The breakfast was good with lovely freshly cut fruit, scrambled eggs, various meats depending on the day, bagels, toast, jams etc.

The hotel room very spacious, clean and very nice and the rooftop was absolutely stunning. The staff was truly outstanding: incredibly helpful, polite and friendly. The biggest hurdle was finding parking around the hotel, which only offers valet parking. Overall we found our stay a bit overpriced, but very pleasant.

Great location and literally under a night life scene which made it slightly difficult to sleep at night (our room was just below the rooftop bar). Room was clean and well stocked. Staff was very friendly and courteous.

There’s only one elevator in the hotel so it’s a bit inconvenient, but there are a few sets of stairs. Only one staircase connects to the lobby, the others lead to the back alley which is where the dumpsters are.

Overall a very memorable stay!

The only thing the Hotel Erwin has going for it is the location and proximity to Venice Beach. The hotel is in a super convenient location if you want to spend time on the Venice strip and hang out on the beach (it is very walkable to the ocean—we walked there twice a day to play in the water).

I booked through Expedia, which asks for the ages of the children. Our children were both over 12 years old and I noted that accordingly during the Expedia booking process.

The Expedia page states that the hotel includes “free breakfast,” however, upon arrival, the hotel refused to give us the breakfast vouchers for the kids because “they were over 12 years old”(though, again, I specifically noted their ages during the Expedia booking process).

We let the kids use the breakfast vouchers and they reported that the breakfast was not good (with my oldest saying “I don’t know how someone could make potatoes taste so bad.”). The hotel said breakfast would be “made to order” but it was not.

Several of the staff were rude (especially to my 13 year old son who had forgotten his key at the beach and needed to get into our room. He answered all of the security questions but then they made a snarky comment and refused to give him a key, which required him to walk back to the beach and for us to all get out of the water to help him access the room). They were rude and unprofessional to a respectful young man and that was uncalled for.

The daily rate included breakfast, all beach needs such as towels, beach chairs,boogie boards, etc. only downside is I feel that they could have given hotel guests better parking rates. I believe it’s about $60 a night. Between that and the daily fee it was $100 more per day. Outside of that, I would definitely come back again

I live close and want to like Erwin for it's convenience but it was TERRIBLE! The elevator took a very long time day and night. The hallways and rooms smelled horrible. The room itself was TINY and the balcony looked at a dumpster and the dumpster smell heated up and filled the room.

Great location right on Venice Beach. It is a 4-star hotel, but the service was excellent. If you're ok with the mixed crowd right near the hotel and see all types of CA beach activities (it's right near Muscle Beach), then the place is for you. There is a nice Greek restaurant at the top with good views. Make sure to reserve in advance on OpenTable. I recommend and will stay there again.

Unfortunately the rooftop was under construction and was not informed before booking. This took away the primary hotel amenity meant for booking this hotel. It also caused the solo elevator to be booked all week by workers and suppliers to get patio furniture changed over so new management could take over. On last day when it was finally opened I bought a drink and sat at a table without reservations and then was told to leave as someone had reserved the table. Was a regular here staying every 6 months for 10 days in premium suites but this is my last trip.
