First time staying in a hostel and it was a great experience. It was the perfect accommodation for what I needed on this trip; a safe and secure place to rest my bed at night. Everyone was very nice and respectful of one another, and I had access to all the resources I needed (bathroom, kitchen appliances, fridge, etc.). If you’re looking for a low-budget, simplistic stay in Venice Beach, this is your place. Would stay here again!

Front desk Gus was rude lazy and paid no attention to my requests and complaints, non working fan, no screen on window, heater didn’t work, no towels, complimentary soap to wash our hands none, no air conditioning, I will be letting my work friends, personal friends, and entire family to stay away from that hotel. Was so surprised and appreciated that there was toiletry and a limited free breakfast..

The property manager charged me for the full stay and than when i told him i was homeless and just needed a place to rest for a few nights he refused to let me stay but he at least refunded my money back which wasn't immediate and it still left me homeless and penniless

The location of the hostel was very nice - right on Venice beach! It could get a little loud at night with people outside playing music but it's to be expected when you're so close to the beach. The room was clean and comfortable. The woman who checked us in was also nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

Very helpful staff who obliged all reasonable requests. Comfortable lounge for dining and chatting. Great location near the beach and boardwalk. So this place shouldn't be slept on. Booked this place after cancelling a slightly more expensive place. The rate you in book is the rate you pay. Pretty straightforward just don't trash the place and you won't get an incidentals charge. You can pay seemingly any method just need a major credit card for the incidentals charge supposing you damage something. I guess you could consider that the \"deposit\" except they don't hold anything on the card. Stayed for one night, woke up and took full advantage of the free Continental breakfast. Its free, basic and decent. Bagels, tangerines and toast are offered. They provide butter, cream cheese, little jellies and peanut butter. They have tea, hot cocoa and coffee as well, coffee is instant if that matters. They also have creamer, sugar and sweeteners. Im a big guy i had a top bunk and it was sturdy and comfy. Pillows are pretty small but not a deal breaker, blankets and sheets are provided and do the job to keep you warm. Definitely coming back. Good service from the front desk, bathrooms are clean, toilets and showers work well. They provide towels and wash cloths also.

I rented room 316. The room is modern and everything worked perfectly in the room. Plenty of fast hot water for the shower. Check in/out persons were very nice. All of the other persons renting rooms, I met walking up/down the stairs and in the breakfast area, were extremely friendly. Samesun is a totally FUN place to rent a room. I plan to rent a room again in the future.

Location, location, location

Bring your shower shoes. This is my first trip staying at a hostel. It was on my bucket list lol and this location was so fabulous. I could not pass it up. Overall, the staff was friendly. The rooms were clean. Bedding was clean. Breakfast was decent. Bathroom and showers are shared so bring your shower shoes and you will be good to go. If you happen to be staying here on a Sunday at sundown, I step outside to see the electric light parade of bikes lit up and music blasting it is quite spectacle.

Nice ocean views

Front desk staff was hit or miss. The day person was very friendly and helpful but the night person was kinda rude and dismissive. The room itself was normal, with nice ocean views. Toiletries and towels were provided, possibly only because I had a private room. The room floor was kinda dusty though so it is recommended to walk around with sandals or socks. The linens were clean but the mattress and pillows were terrible. I appreciated the luggage storage at no additional cost and the lounge looked ok. I did not use the kitchen nor ate the complimentary breakfast.

The hostel is in a very noisy area surrounded by loud bars with rowdy crowds, but this is expected given the area. Just not adequate for light sleepers or people looking for a peaceful stay. Guests come in and out of rooms all the time and you can hear all the conversations happening in the hallway and even other rooms. Once again, this is normal for a hostel.

I couldn’t sleep. So much noise, music, people… there’s a party right down the building. There’s no parking available how says here, you need to pay for it. The staff is super cute and amazing, the room was ok, I liked that have a private bathroom (I stayed at a 4bed woman), the bad is not the best but even if it was, I couldn’t sleep because the noise. If you’re traveling for party, I think it’s ok, if not, don’t stay here.

Sadly the pictures don't match with what I got, I had DRY BLOOD on my sheets, very bad isolation on the rooms, no ladder to get up on the bed so if you're tiny good luck getting up there. Very disappointed.
There are 2 types of hostels; and even if the location is absolutely perfect, I can't say this is a good one.
Pretty expensive for what you get, save yourself sometimes and look elsewhere !

Facilities were great for what we needed. The hotel clerk (Chris) who was on the audit shift was pretty concerning. I called earlier in the evening before my flight to say it was delayed and we would be in after 1 am. Chris was visually and verbally irritated when we got there at 3 am. He canceled both rooms, which I wasn’t upset about as there was still vacancy. The problem is he broke out cursing at us multiple times stating things like “I don’t f***ing care if you leave a review” and “you can tell my manager Heather because she doesn’t give a f*** either”. His eyes were dilated, he was shaky, and he was slurring his words. It seems as if Chris was at the time using a substance and was now at work handling money and customers. He may have been both drunk and on an illicit substance. Really sad because when I told him he should really get help with his problem and not come to work inebriated, he broke out angry and started cursing in rage again. He calmed down once he realized a person in our party was a police officer. This tells me that he was fully capable of controlling his actions, but instead he chose not to because he knows his manager Heather and Samesun ownership will not discipline him. Sad because it was a convenient and clean place but wouldn’t trust this place that knowingly allows this form of behavior. It’s good to support people getting out of a bad place. But it’s clear he currently is still addicted to substance abuse and they allow it.

Absolutely wonderful! Would definitely recommend. As a solo traveller, one of my biggest fears is finding a safe accomodation. Things aren't really as they seem online. But Samesun exceeded my expectations! I got a all women dorm and I shared it with a couple of other solo backpackers. It has been a wonderful experience.
