Although there were problems getting into our rooms initially, and we had to spend the night in other hotels, the end result was a discounted stay, and the staff was accommodating to take care of us. The area is convenient to explore the historic city center, and was clean and comfortable. The staff were also very supportive in setting up airport transfers for us, and even made reservations at a local hammam and provided transport to that as well.

The place is close to many local attractions, muzeums, squares, parks, and winding streets with historical buildings, and Byzantine walls and ruins. Tgere are a lot of restaurants and shops here, too. Yet, many looked tourist traps to me: the quality was good, but you would get better deals, if you went farther to the north-east, or even visit the Asian part.The vicinity of the Murmur sea, seaside views, and the trail to Eminönü is another advantage. We explored the majority of those sites and attractions on foot. Daily breakfast options at the hotel were diverse and tasty under Zalifeh's supervision. The rooms are rather small, a little worn, but are cleaned daily -- sufficient to spend the night-time. Aziz's keen sense of humour kept everyone energized and in good mood. The staff are very hospitable, polite, and eager to provide assistance. Aziz and hotel manager, Elif, helped a lot in communication when the transfer company failed to arrive at the proper location.

Overall I like the place-view from Terrace is amazing! Spend your evening in romantic atmosphere of charming breeze from the sea,music and good food!
But rooms haven’t been renovated for long time,the standard rooms are very small,bathrooms are very cramped. The beds were very uncomfortable and small
But everything compensate with nice staff,good breakfast and location-5min away from beautiful square with mosques.
Hotel located in very quiet place. We might come back,but take bigger room.

The property has a beautiful architecture, furniture and excellent location! Also, the restaurant is very nice, elegant, good food for fair price and has an amazing view! The staff are all supportive and kind! Especially the breakfast staff and very gentle Inhaim who assisted me with taxi and always works with a big smile! Unfortunately, the facilities are not very good. When I got there, my vault was broken, the air conditioner had no remote and the room was a little warm. When you open the window which couldn't be open more than 45°, the noise outside invaded the room and was not efficient enough. Also, the shower was weak, hard to fix a pleasant temperature and the stand broken. And the tv remote wasn't working and after they fix it, the sign went out and didn't come back for a couple of days. The very helpful staff sorted out a new control for the air conditioner on my 2nd night. I conclude it's a hotel with potential, but they need to be more careful with details and maintenance.

We stayed one night and it happened to be a Saturday night. They did not inform us that there will be live music in the evening in the restaurant just above our room. The noise was unbearable. They finished at 12 o clock midnight and then started the cleaning process which included dragging tables and chairs and the sorting out of glasses and plates, which made an additional two hours of noise, so at 2 a.m we could successfully fall asleep. We had to check out early next morning, so the whole experience was unpleasant and stressful. The staff was polite and helpful, breakfast was good too. The bed sheet is a bit too small for two people. It got cold in the middle of the night and we found out that there was no no additional blanket. The air conditioner had no battery so we couldn’t use it either.

I didn't like the room, it was small,
the staff was not friendly at all. They litellery gave us dead stare when we would come and go... Also, the AC did not work well. It had a lot of loud noise which caused me sleepless nights. Over all I would not recoomned this hotel.
Also they didn't let us use the Terras for breakfast and made us eat in the dungen which was extremely hot

I stayed in this hotel in July 2019 and Picked up the same hotel with intention they will treat us the same way as before. The room initially they offered vs what we have booked was not good at all, we had to pay extra to get the room we were looking for.
Most of the staff were helpful other than one of the member which were pretty rude.
The breakfast is not very good option as they say free breakfast but they charge extra for everything if you need coffee, water or Omelet.
I stayed 10 days in hotel but after this year experience I will never stay in this hotel.

I was offered Turkish coffee on the house by the staff. Night before I checked out I asked the staff of there was any bill outstanding. They confirmed everything was paid off. Next day when I was checking out in the morning I was told I have to pay the bill for the coffees and they made me pay. Secondly I wanted to book a cab through the hotel for the airport and I was happy to pay by my debit card as I was little short of Turkish lira. They denied they cannot except card payment for the cab as they have to pay them in cash. They realised I had British pounds on me. They made me pay in pounds for the cab. I only wanted a small taxi for myself and they booked me a 10 seater bus for my pounds. I am disappointed with the greedy staff. Hotel room was nice and clean but the staff was terrible towards the end of the trip.

Checked in to our first room And it was so tiny compared to what they show online which I think is false advertisement.. the bathroom door just about closed when you go in. The AC was leaking so asked to move to another room and they moved me and my wife in to a room with 2 single beds I told them this is not acceptable we need a queen size bed as described on your website they told me I would have to pay extra as they only have the elegance room available. Why should I have to pay extra if my room has a leak! So I refused to pay but got told I can move in to the room after arguing for about 15mins once moved in to the elegance room it absolutely STUNK! the workers were even embarrassed at this stage we were so tired and have moved from first floor to second floor then from second floor to the elegance room that room stunk we had to move back to the second floor and me and my wife had to sleep on two single beds. Then we asked for an iron they gave it and told us we don’t have a stand we can iron on the bed the iron they gave was damaged and cracked and the heat control dial was stuck on high while ironing it burned my clothes and slightly the bed and I got told by the manager I would get charged For the burn marks also that ironing in the hotel is prohibited and we are not allowed to use iron even though the workers are the ones who gave us the iron. Lastly mini bars as always should be charged but water should atleast should be complimentary in such a hot country but nope.

The best thing about the Avicenna are its wonderful staff and its excellent location. We were not happy with our room and bathroom, both of which were shabby (some features not working) and did not have coffee as an amenity, even though it was included at the time of booking. The breakfast was OK, could be better. However, the staff's wonderful attitude and swift responses to all our needs and requests, plus the hotel's great location made up for these -ves. I do hope the hotel can further improve its not-so-bad breakfast and fix missing/non-functional elements in my room. Otherwise, I look forward to staying here again :-)

Excellent area, close to main attractions, plenty of restaurants next to hotel. Room was comfortable, with a nice balcony with a view to Bosphorus, could do with some upgrading. Spare pillows had no covers.
No heating in the rooms during the day or evenings. It was 1*c in Istanbul in December!
Used my hairdryer to keep me warm.
Loud music playing in the restaurant at breakfast wakes you up if you wanted a lie in.

No lights in corridors or walk through to my room.
Room key needed verifying every time I went out.
Bed sunken in the middle.
Shower and water pressure very good. Nice towels. Receptionist staff friendly. Owner not friendly at all. Just walks around smoking. I went to the restaurant upstairs on my last day, waited 20 minutes. Nobody served me so I ended up eating out.

the location was very close to the tramway so that we could go to everywhere and also very close to historical sites and has an excellent view but we couldnt benefit because the breakfast area is down and not ob the terrace. Also the terrace is always closed and the property is too small .the room even if superior is too small for 2 and the breakfast is very poor and the same everyday.there is no sugar in the room even .The staff are very friendly and helpfull and Iam submittung my opinion just to improve

We booked this hotel as it was recommended to us by a family member who had visited Istanbul and stayed here. On our arrival, all was well in terms of checking in and meet and greet. They also went through the map of Istanbul so we could get familiar with everything.

Our room was below standard. The TV which was absolutely awful was hanging off the wall. The floor was disjointed and the built-in cupboard doors would not close. The queen size bed had only a king duvet and the worst of all, some bulbs needed replacing. The shower and sink were below par for even a standard hotel but we did make do with what was available as we were staying for a short time. There is a balcony looking out on to the street and you can see a glimpse of The Blue Mosque but it is nothing spectacular, just a glimpse!

I was disappointed with the breakfast, we were told to pay 10 liras for the omelette. The wifi, let's just say, it does not exist on the top floor.

Lovely hotel in a convenient location!

The hotel was situated about 5-10 minutes walk from the Hagia Sophia. It’s a quiet corner of the street. There were plenty of restaurants and eateries nearby. 10 minuets walk from the Sultanahmet tram stop. However, one negative thing about it is there wasn’t sound proof between rooms. So we have always been disturbed during midnights and early neighbours by rooms next to us.

Not a nice hotel, breakfast is awful and I love the Turkish style breakfast in hotels but that was just something else. Rooms are very small.
Also left some things in the hotel but when the hotel were contacted apparently there was nothing at all left in the room ... which was a lie as I purposely left things that I didn’t want to take home there was just 1 thing I left on the dressing table that I didn’t want to leave.
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel at all the only positive was the location although there are lots of nearby hotels that will make you happier.

From arrival to check out the staff were helpful and accommodating. Our room was below ground level and was somewhat small,but spotlesslessly clean . On our second night we discovered that the bathroom sink was blocked. We were immediately offered a different room,which we declined and simply wanted the sink unblocked which it was by the next day . Breakfast is basic but you get what you pay for,and was certainly enough to keep you going until lunchtime. I would have no problem recommending this hotel and staff.

No I do not recommended for friends. breakfast is not count as real open buffet very poor and no fruit. No cartsy water in the room, not welcome hospitality, e.g. no free drink or soft drink on arrival. Comparing to four star hotel is not welcoming tourist or visitors, had to walk to and use stares although i explained I have disability, had to walk far distance and stares. Not welcoming the guest, customer officer shouted at me when asked about free services.

Upon arrival was greeted by the reception staff which spoke adequate english but were unprofessional and loitering around. Disappointed with the rooms as we booked two rooms and were given 1 queen room and 1 twin room but had requested two queen rooms as per reservation. Expedia gives the option of requesting a smoking room but told we could not have one as it was exclusively for elegance rooms only. Anyways we tried to be positve about the whole situation but we had a tv which was very small and had two remotes which were impossible to use and no english channels. TV on the expedia website advertises a 55 inch tv but its more like 10 inches. Anyways No slippers as advertised, Dark rooms which were booked hoping they would be like the pictures, Need more lighting. Key cards had to be constantly programmed. On the second night my wife walked through reception with myself and staff knocked on the door to tell me guests were forbidden????? insulting. They later realised I am the one who booked the room and was a guest (no apology). Breakfast seen better in a B+B. 2 stars at the most WOULD not go here again.

The Hotel is located in a nice area 5 minuets walk from Sultan Ahmed Mosque and Haji Sofia , the breakfast is great , the room was tidy and clean , the tv is small not much to watch except bbc news , air Conditioning ok

Think before booking

They don't have disable access as they mentioned on website when I booked. They told me that they informed the hotels.com four month ago but they did not update their website. It is very difficult to people with limited mobility.
Overall it is not very pleasant and comfort and staff try to cheat. I reached at night and asked to order dinner from nearby take away and they charged me 15 TL for turkish kebab that is available in next street in 8TL. Floor of the room is in bad condition and some maintenance issue are there as well.

A Very pleasant place

The Hotel Staff are fabulous, always at hand to help out. Our booking requests were fulfilled as requested. Hotel is very close to Sultanahmet Mosque and other tourist attractions, very safe place to stay. My elderly mother along with my kids had no problems getting out and about. The hotel has a nice unique touch to it.
Breakfast was plentiful both hot and cold. Good service from the Breakfast team.

Cute little hotel but I didn’t enjoy the stay. Upon arriving the hotel staff were not helpful and didn’t give us a tour of the hotel or give us any information at all.

The WiFi was extremely bad! No connection at all in the rooms and the manager suggested we use it downstairs rather than the room!

Let’s not even get started on the bathroom! Water wouldn’t drain in the bathroom and we were told to wait for a technician, did anyone turn up? Of course not!

Ps breakfast wasn’t nice at all, well if you’re a cheese lover then it’s right up your street!

Breakfast is awful. Coffee is weak; they never have juice or fruit, cups are broken and they only offer hard boiled eggs. If you want another option they charge you extra. When I spoke to the Manager and told her it was tasteless and will give the hotel poor reviews, she told me that she didn't care about the reviews, because didn't own the hotel,. After that she was very nasty and walked away from me when I was saying goodby on my first stay. She is definitely not a people person

We had an excellent trip in istanbul and of course this wouldnt have been without a nice place to stay at. Great staff great service and rooms. The location is perfect, everything is very close to you and the terrace view is excellent. The staff where always happy to help and very funny! Cleaners aswell. Receptionist, caner, ali, halil, kenan and others we cant remember the names of thankyou for making our stay so pleasant, hopefully will be returning again!

Great location, good value for money

The hotel is a bit dated, it needs minor renovations. The breakfast is average, the rooms are rather small (especially the shower). Rooms are clean, but due to age they require more than just wiping. However, the location is great, the beds are comfortable, and my stay went smoothly. It's a good hotel if you're on a budget.

No guess allowed to visit the room.

Staff are helpful, I give them that. But there is this stupid rules that I can't have my guess going into my room. I just want to have a casual chat over drinks and cigarette on the balcony, but it's not allowed. My male friend couldn't visit me in my room, but my girl friend that stayed in other hotel can visit the other room that was occupied by the girls I'm working with. Very weird. Not going back.

Unsafe location, Bad hote;

We paid to stay for 1 week but after 2 nights we decided to change the hotel and paid extra money. The location is not safe. From the hotel to go to the attraction, we get harrassed by the shopkeeper and the beggar along the small road. Not safe to go out at night. The room is very small and we booked for double bed but was given 2 single beds (or that is what they define double bed) The matress was very bad and we got backache. The wifi signal is very poor and not worth it. We decided to change the hotel because it will ruin our holiday if we continue to stay there. Will not recommend it. Will not come back.

Expect same from your price

Well what you expect from a 3 star hotel. Breakfast was very bad so less varieties. Only good thing for me was the wifi and the staff members they were helpful. I wouldn't stay again.

It's perfect for someone who doesnt care where they stay and cheap.

This hotel was nice and very nice customer service. It's placed in a good area as well. The breakfast wasn't great but apart from that there wasn't really anything else disappointing about this place.

Bad experience

I arrived at the hotel early and they check in was very late as the room won't ready and then after 3 pm I got my room when I walked inside it looked nice and I didn't check the washroom but once I went to the washroom the bath tub had long ladies hair inside it and looked as if it was not even washed.

I used the room service for food which was about 14 lira and when checking out they ask me if I used anything from the mini bar I said no just the bottle of water ( which 1 was free ) but they charged me for 6 or 7 lira extra and once checked out they never helped as I had to carry my own suitcase out and this hotel has no lift and the staff helped me take suitcase up on check in but when leaving I carried my own suitcase down 3 floors!

Never again staying at this hotel.

They follow too much rules ...
So be prepared for it .., because if you ask for extra I doubt you getting that ... Since I was vegetarian there was almost no choice for us ...

Not Queen beds!

There are no Queen beds on the entire property. You need to take this off your site. My husband is tall and I booked this hotel because it states on the Expedia site for the hotel Queen bed. None. Also the breakfast was a joke. No fruit but lots of cheese. Price was right. Don't expect much.

Very central and nice area.

Staff were very helpful and polite. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection. Sometimes the tables were all full and had to wait for a table to become available. Hotel was clean and quiet.
