Wonderful staff, very friendly. Food was good and plentiful. The place is long overdue for an upgrade. My sea view room window was dirty, and the frame was falling apart. Very cold, white room with no character. A/C in the room hardly worked.

Lots of booze, no water

The room was clean and confortable and although we had an issue with the air conditionning, they promptly offered a différent room. The food was average. Drinks were OK however very difficult to get water and no fridge in the room.

The ac in our room was not working properly and they never came to fix it. The WiFi didn’t work properly. There was a small mini bar near the pool but nothing was given to us in our room fridge. When we checked in it took more than an hour for us to be helped even though they saw us with suitcases. The cleaning lady took forever to clean the room and forgot to give us clean towels. We came back one day at 5pm and the room had not been cleaned.

I’ve been to other resorts and even the one in San andres which is the same name and owner I believe is 100 times better than the one in Cartagena. It was the worse experience I had.. towels were extremely old and the over charge for those old towels if something happened to them (you cannot imagen). I asked staff for multiple essential things such an iron since day one, we’ll never got it in the 5 days I stayed there. All inclusive??? There’s no water something as essential as water no you have to go and ask for a 6 oz cup of water (this is very important for someone that don’t drink alcohol) keep in mind to give bottles of water and have some in the room even if you charge some extra dollars it would be much better… The cleaning lady for the room was great, as well as the people in the dinning area they were always helpful.. ohhh almost forgot don’t even think about going inside the pool area if you are not going into the water or going in with a towel because if not you are not allow to go in… good luck staying in this “RESORT” if I were you I would not. Instead go to the one in San andres :) highly recommended.

Please stay away from this place!!! This is not a real all inclusive. Poor customer service. Cockroaches on the room and bath room. Shower full of hair. Humidity on the wall and furniture and doors in bad conditions almost to fall down. Curtains falling down. Don’t waste your time and money on this hotel. Worst experience ever.

I could write a whole book about my experience, worst hotel ever, we had to leave the hotel in less than 2 hours.
- there is no snack bar, there was only a lady handing out potatos, that was the snack bar no other snack.
- we got a room on 15th floor and only one elevator was working, we had to wait 5 minutes for the elevator to arrive.
-the AC was not working, I called the front desk 3 times and nobody helped me.
-no internet at all, as soon as we checked in they gave us a paper to enroll 4 devices, we I try my computer I got less than 1MB when connect but then got disconnected and I was unable to connect again.
-when we asked for towels, the towels were dirty, stained and torn.
- we talked to the manager (Lida González) about us leaving and she said I will help and she listen all of our arguments, 3 days later Expedia said the hotel refused to do the cancellation because they offered another room, which they never did, she said one thing and did the other, also changing a room would not fix all the issues.
-finally Expedia did not help either, they offered me $300 credit with them and I had to book another hotel and pay for all the meals of my family, the only time I needed help from Expedia they did not help, we did not cause any expense to the hotel as we left in less than 2 hours, worst hotel EVER!!!

The AC was not working correctly and the never had enough towels. Food was very plain no taste and it look like they were over whelmed by the people.
Swimming pool was to small by the amount of people and very limited time to use the pool.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay, we didn’t encounter any issues and the staff was friendly. This is an all inclusive, however, the liquor/ cocktail servings were really small, the food was well prepared but it wasn’t anything special. The price was low in comparison to the other hotels, so it was no surprise that it wasn’t as nice as the other places we have stayed before.

Everything was fine. Well, it is a three-star hotel. The only bad thing is that they don't have something different from the buffet. In the hotel description it says that there are two a la carte restaurants but my mom never saw them. My niece got her period and stained the bed and they wanted to charge her for changing the sheet. My mom washes it by hand.

Facilities are quiet worn out and the rooms are very poorly maintained. We were moved 2 times. 1st a/c not working, 2nd beds were broken. Finally they gave us an upgrade to an ocean view however a/c was a bit low and the room kept getting warm specially during the afternoon times since the sun hit directly through the windows. Food was good, entertainment was good and the end we managed to have an ok stay at the hotel.

The most expensive hotel I stayed in while in Cartagena and by far the worst hotel experience I’ve had in my life! Shabby buildings and rooms. Totally disorganized check in. Took about 1 hour. Incredibly rude and unhelpful staff.
Room was the worst. Crayon markings on furniture, no working air conditioning (80 degrees F in the room),no working wifi or television. No running hot water! Nothing came out of the faucet. Told front desk about the issues and they said they would send someone, but never did. Staff literally detained us upon checking out and would not let us leave hotel for some unknown reason that no one on staff could explain to us. Security staff literally grabbed our bags and would not let us leave although we had already checked out and were waiting for an Uber to the airport. Isn’t this illegal?! After over 20 minutes, some lobby guy (manager? I hope not) said it was a mixup and we could leave. Management and many hotel staff should be fired! The absolute worst hotel experience I have ever had and I travel a lot! Horrible! Stay away!

The worst hotel I HAVE EVER stayed in. I mean for the price I paid (almost $200). Give me this hotel for $40-50 and I’ll say it’s ok. But not for $200. I mean rooms are horrible. Service is non-existent. Again, I repeat, worst hotel I’ve ever stayed, and that’s not hyperbole.

This was by far the worst hotel i have seen in business. It compares to a very cheap hotel. There was mold everywhere. We preferred not to look for things wrong because we kept finding them. Stains, hair, hand print marks, stench…. It had it all. The elevators were broken. The front staff was painfully slow. I would never recommend of go back.

What I liked: it's right across the beach.
What I didn't like: lines for everything. The hotel can receive a lot of guests (someone said it was up to 1000 people), so during breakfast/lunch/dinner you have to wait on the line to get your food from the buffet. Only one pool for up to 1000 people (you have to make reservations to get in).
Only one bar for up to 1000 people!. You can't get more than 2 drinks per person, so if you're a large group, you can't help bringing drinks to your party table. All of you (or most of you) will have to get in the line to get your own drinks.
So: no social distancing. it's crowed as hell during holidays, and the lines for everything make it worst.
Only 2 elevators for a 15-floor building where each floor has like 14 rooms each. Elevators crowed as well, or you'll easily wait like 30 mins to get an elevator for yourself. Plus, one elevator didn't work for 2 hours or so.
Food was good, but basic. Not Colombian food really nor Caribbean food.
Rooms are pretty basic, they feel old and unmaintained. They definitely focus on receiving tons of guests and full their capacity, rather than providing quality.

This hotel is ranked with 3 stars, however it is far from being even a 1 star hotel. We changed rooms 4 times for the first 3 nights. The reasons were as follow: 1. The internet did not work, the room was old and dilapidated and the air conditioning did not work; 2. In the second room there was not hot water, not internet service, the room was not the one we booked with view to the sea; 3. the third room was worse because headboard was king size and they placed a full sized bed, which mattress was old, still not internet service, there was not an outlet to plug-in our computer near the super small desk, so an extension cord was brought and plugged in from across the room, we had to wait around 5 minutes for the hot water to come, the room had a pungent smell, as well.

The food was the worse of any hotel or resort we have stayed. There was little variety and the meat was of poor quality. Regarding the staff, if you tip them you get them around you like pigeons during feeding time. If you don’t tip them, they don’t even look your way. All the food is service buffet style, and some of the servers have a negative attitude.

If you are looking for an horrid experience in your vacations, this is the haunted hotel to go. Otherwise, keep away from this shop of horrors. Expedia should check the hotels before ranking them. I am seriously beginning to question Expedia’s ranking of hotels, because it is the second negative experience that I endure in the last 12 months. Dr. H. Geage

This is an older hotel. The good thing about it is it's location right across the street from the beach. Makes it easy for enjoying the sea and sand. It is also ten minutes by taxi from the old walled in city that is very interesting. The price was very decent for the location. It is a bit down on it's heels, could use some renovation. The staff was all right. Smallish pool. We had a room that looked out on the ocean and so that was very nice.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE..!! The dirtiest and most neglected hotel I have ever seen in my life, just to say that a hostel is in better condition. In the room where my nephew and my sister were, it was flooded and my nephew, who is only 8 years old, got sick due to the bad conditions of the air conditioners since it had mold in the ducts. The A/C did not work in my room. The food was not recommended, the snacks were a guava pastry or a mini pizza, the breakfast options are embarrassing and not to mention dinner. We only stayed in this hotel for less than 48 hours and they had the nerve to charge me for the 9 days my reservation was, when I only stayed a day and a half in this dump. Don’t be misguided by the pictures you see online, not what it seems at all!

I really enjoyed my visit at this hotel. Everything was good. Service was excellent and employees were very attentive. During meals time, couple of the employees were not too friendly, but in general everything was great. I had issue with my bed and it was replaced in no time. I was amazed now quick they replied and fixed the issue right away. Elevators were a little slow and hectic waiting too long for it. I will definitely will stay at Hotel Dorado Plaza again.

Complex has serious problems

I hate to have to say this, but the place is falling apart. Internet only works in the lobby or by the elevator. Most rooms no internet but if you are near an elevator look for your floor and click on piso 7 or whatever floor your on. A/c barely works in most units. The only cool a/c is in the check in counter closest to beach. Many windows are in bad shape. My first room they were banging like crazy with the winds. I went and found a cardboard box and tore it in strips to cut down on the window banging. Also had to pack cardboard under the door to cut down on wind sound. Worst of all in the tower closest to the airport, one elevator never worked. The other was down OFTEN. 2 flights of between each floor so if your on the 15th , that is 30 flights of stairs in a hot humid stairwell. I filmed the parade of folks out of breath going up and down. Hot water often was just air, or cold. I think there are guys on the room filling tanks as workers were constantly going up and down working up there. They also had hoses and compressors in the elevator, and parts trying to get something working. The whole place is for Colombian package tourists. I was there a week and only saw 2 people that were non Colombian that I could tell. It doesnt really matter where your from normally butthe Colombians often have many family members and get sometimes 2 or 3 rooms. Then they leave the doors open and yet back and forth and the kids running around and yelling and sounds here travel everywhere.

el Dorado needs a new General Manager or top man,

El Dorado and Cartagena Plaza have the same owner with two sons: Carlos (Cartagena P.) and William and the Dorado administator. William is struggling on his job: Rooms are not ready for check-in at 3 PM. Dirty laundry is left on the halls waiting for pick up. William is very strict and does not communicate with employees who are trying their best. I was moved three times because AC does not work. There is not working WIFI. There is not phone guides to know how to dial. Elevators do not always work. Front desk employees are frustrated and it is reflected in their work. Employees are good and nice but need someone that listens. For example, there is a cleaning lady per floor to clean 17 rooms after customers leave and have rooms ready by 3 PM. I talked to the employees and they told me they need Carlos to run the place and fire William. Owner (their father) needs to know. They are afraid to talk.

Solution, go to the Cartagena Plaza, a better place and avoid the El Dorado.
Father, please replace William so the workers can do their work.

Worse hotel ever.

Worst vacation ever. THe elevator didnt work. People got stucked. I reported the issue the first day at the front desk and they never fixed it. Half of the shower curtain was missing and the water came out of the shower.
The room shades were damaged and the sun came thru early in the morning due the malfunction.
The restroom ceiling was moldy and rusty. The hotel does not provided lock box. The front desk was crowded and there was only 1 front desk agent. The air condition did not work properly.
Decently want my money back.
The clock on the night stand was covered by paint and broke, I had to take it to the front desk and they never replaced it.

Family Tropical Resort on the Beach

Hotel Dorado is a clean, pleasant resort with a family feel and a genuine tropical vibe directly across the street from the beach. The staff is ever present and smiling, the overall feel is safe and secure. Particularly worthy of praise is a young porter named Cristian Landinez. Mr. Landinez should be singled out and commended for his friendly and professional customer service skills and his ability to put his guests at ease with his sincere and eager desire to help with non-spanish speaking clients. Bravo, Cristian and thank you for all your help! I can see a great career in hospitality for you in the future.

This was if not the worst hotel I have ever been to in my whole life I never recommend this hotel to anyone. I have such a bad experience in this hotel. My girlfriends wristband was too tight and days was going to charge me 50 pesos. This was really absurd. Then there was problems with the AC an elevator. I recommend no one to stay here. Terrible.

Great staff, next to the beach, good food.

I read not very good reviews about the hotel before I booked it so I only booked it for 2 night out of the 4 I was going to be there for. I wanted to check it out first. They had a lot of staff members around, all doing something. Security at the front and back door 24/7. The housekeeping was taking great care of the room, probably better then any hotel I have stained before. It is for sure outdated but the service was great in all departments. The elevators run good, no issues at all. The water pressure was also totally fine.

Very good Bocagrande location ! practically on the beach, the other side is a shopping street with restaurants, a flee market, plus a new mall and casino in the next block. Only 5 minutes cab drive from the historic walled in city and the cabs are inexpensive.
The room was simple, but good. The view is great since it is an octagon building on this peninsula surrounded with the Caribbean Sea.
Some other former guests criticized the elevators, but I have had no problems with them at all.
Short waiting at times is normal for this size of a hotel.
I have taken the All Inclusive option. Breakfast, lunch and dinner from a buffet, not exclusive but very good, fresh and wide selection ! ( I guess I missed dining out elsewhere, but sure saved a lot ! )
Much enjoyed staying there. Would consider to book it again if coming back to Cartagena

They don't timely process reservations made through internet so on your arrival you cannot be sure that your room will be available, even if you have reservation number and all that stuff that Expedia send.

Customer service ruins it. Pros vs Cons

Pros: Location:
The Dorado Plaza is located South of the Bacaraton Strip, the location is pretty convenient and felt safe. The beach is in front of the hotel and there is a grocery store and pharmacy directly behind the hotel. It has 2 pools, a bar, one computer for internet & they have dance shows every night. There is a night club in the hotel, but it is pretty lame. Small not a variety of drinks at bar, but hey its free.

Area:
Cartagena Plaza and restaurants are all within walking distance.

Food: This is all inclusive, including drinks and the food is very good. Breakfast is from 0700 to 1000 * get there early if you want good food, they stop putting out food 1 hour before close. Lunch is 1300-1500 and dinner 1900-2200 , I did not get sick once! There is filtered water throughout hotel, so bring a water canister.

Cons: CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! AND OUTDATED HOTEL. When we arrived at 5pm it took then an hour to get my room ready. Check in was 3pm. They made us wait and took forever. They did not accommodate my kids in a close room as requested on expedia. They also downgraded my room to standard when I had a superior room . They blamed expedia , I had to fight for a bigger room, which i had paid for. They did not care ! elevators broke down or were super slow. Only one computer in hotel, which sucks when you need to look at flights or important data.
Front desk is very rude and cold.

Nice location but needs a little work

The hotel is located near restaurants, casinos, and shopping centers. However, there was very little water pressure and the air conditioner was not cool enough and could not be adjusted.

This is a horrible hotel. The room we got had mold on the ceiling and at the air duct. The pole for the clothes to hang was not attached to the wall , useless, the safe deposit box as not attached to the shelf, useless.We requested for a new room but we were transferred to 15th floor the following day. Water pressure in the shower was very very slow,I was afraid to shampoo my hair for fear the hotel might run out of water.On Dec 21 2015 was the worst day.We cameback in the afternoon after the city tour. Both elevators were not working, we waited until 10 pm , they were not able to fix the elevator. I missed my appointment in the evening, my CP was low on Battery my charger was in my room. I WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE MY MEDICINES. I have to check in at another hotel to shower, wear the clothes we wore for the day and sleep in a clean modern hotel. CalledExpedia about the situation.This hotel should not be on their list. We will never comeback at this hotel.

Good bang for the money

We overall enjoyed the hotel but they lack hot water in the shower and the internet service was poor on the ground floor and nonexistent up on the 11th where we stayed. In this day and age that really needs to be improved.

Also, one morning their coffee maker went on the blink and they had no back-up. A lot of people were very grouchy over that.

On the positive side, a very friendly staff and they did their best although they are still technologically challenged.

Pool hours are awful, the check-in process can be a total nightmare if you do it between 2-5 PM
We had a nice ocean view, but there is no balcony.
I guess that for a budget hotel, it wasn't that terrible, but they can do a lot better.

Overall our experience with their staff was great, very friendly and helpful hower the facility is old and outdated. My room was not painted right, Not well controled temperature, shower and toilet was not working properly.
Food at the hotel was somehow good but not great.

Close to beach but hotel conditions are bad

Hotel has two tower four elevators service the hotel. At the time of my stay Rachel tower had a elevators that was not working and of the one of the elevators stop operation between flirts with guest in it. It took over twenty minutes to get the elevator working and get the out. In addition, during a rain storm one of the elevators had water pouring in it. The main lobby area of both towers had no air condition which made for a very humid and hot area to lounge in. The cleanliness of the hotel was deplorable do to all small construction and repairs being donr on some of the flooors, lobby area and general common areas. My room was clean comfortable l, it had a small fridge to use, flat screen tv, and desk, wifi eas great, bathroom clean. The staff was very kind and friendly. This is what staying sone what acceptable.

We enjoy our stay in Dorado Plaza and the staff were very friendly, helpful and nice.....and one of them speak english. The hotel were renovated at the time we were there, but we got some of the renovated rooms, which were very nice.

Be tagged as a tourist and no visitors allow

The hotel's facilities are not bad overall. The room was cleaned. However, the pool they advertise is not the hotel's, It is a view from one of the room overlooking the pool of the hotel in front which looks like a beautiful pool out in the open overlooking as well to the beach. The hotel does not have \"beach access.\" It is just IN FRONT of the beach, You still have to cross the traffic crowded street to get to the beach. Forget about taking someone to your room. Hotel guests are not allow to bring anyone to their rooms. Visitors must wait at the lobby and no where by the pool. Also, guests must wear a wrist band all the time which let's everyone know you are a tourist. As soon as you walk out you're harassed by vendors trying to sell you anything from tours to native products.

This hotel is disgusting!

The hotel was terrible! The food was disgusting and the bar service was awfull and none existance! The hotel is very old and ran down. The food choice is very limitted and look and taste disgusing. There is only a bar looking place where you are given only one kind of draft beer in a very small plastic cup and there is no chairs you sit and enjoy a cup of small beer! After 11:00 PM, upstairs you have only hard drinks and no beer at all!

Great location and entertainment

Very nice friendly staff food was good and convenient location. We had no hot water in our room but we didn't mind. By taking to other guests we found out the did have hot water. The other downside was the fact that the hotel is under renovations but other than that great experience at reasonable price
