The room was nice and clean everything ran off a voice commands which didn't always work the TV didn't work either. Asked front desk several time to come and fix, but that never happened. The hotel had 4 elevators, 3 of which worked. you had to wait to go up or down because they were always full. No activities at the hotel at all. Pool was small and loaded with local people who stayed there and we could not even get a seat. No place to sit outside the hotel to relax and hang out. No benches anywhere outside. The buffet was jammed packed and completely crazy. The two restaurants for the preferred club were perfect. Staff and food were exceptional. The hotel was older but in good condition. The beach across the street you could not access due to the rocks, no sand. I think Columbia is a beautiful country and the people are lovely. But would not choose that hotel again.

Where to start.....ignore the pictures you are not that close to the beach. All inclusive is a waste of your money as you are severely limited to what you may have. The staff for the most part are pleasant however absolutely no communication between them. One person says you can do one thing and then the other says no. It is very family driven and not sure why it showed up when I used adults only filter. I was talked into upgrading my all inclusive package to fit my requests.......they did not. Also I was quoted one price which was not so bad. After reviewing my credit card I was not charged the $121 and cents I was charged $709. They claim language barrier yet show me on their phone. I speak Spanish semi well enough to understand. And after all this going to check out they charged me for 6 beers I did not have. However they were the beers I wanted. My credit card company is handling this experience currently since Expedia themselves were absolutely no help from day one when I called and wasted my vacation time to get some help.

The worst hotel I have ever stayed at.
When we arrived at Cartagena Plaza Hotel, we were shocked to find out that one of our rooms had been canceled without any prior notice, despite having a confirmed reservation. The so-called solution they offered was completely unreasonable: to accommodate two additional people, they wanted to charge USD 1,100, while the original room cost USD 685. An outrageous and unjustified price.

The customer service was poor, unhelpful, and unprofessional. The hotel is extremely overcrowded, making it impossible to enjoy any of the facilities. This hotel does not deserve a 4-star rating at all — not even half a star.

The experience was so bad that we checked out the very next day, and to make matters worse, they refused to refund the week that had already been paid.
A terrible experience from start to finish. I would not recommend this hotel under any circumstances.

The hotel is at an excellent area facing the beach from one side and the skyline view from the other. Staff are exceptionally friendly. Rooms are clean with comfortable beds. You can walk and find restaurants, shopping center and pharmacies. Overall, i recommended for families as well as individuals.

It’s an old hotel, so my expectations were not high for the property. The building met those expectations. Staff is good. Food at the buffet was good. The bed was comfortable and the room was kept clean. One of the elevators was not working. Spent too much time waiting for elevators and they were usually packed. The location was close to the old town center.

I want to share my experience to help other travelers make informed decisions. On Expedia’s website, the hotel advertises beach umbrellas, in-room minibars, and an “all-inclusive” plan with access to two restaurants plus the buffet. However, this is misleading:

Beach umbrellas and chairs are not included – you have to pay extra.

The “minibar” is just an empty fridge – it doesn’t contain anything.

The all-inclusive plan only covers the buffet. The other two restaurants require additional payment.

So in reality, this hotel is not truly all-inclusive. I find this very misleading and disappointing.

On a positive note, I want to highlight that the staff was excellent – very kind and attentive throughout our stay.

I hope this helps other travelers and that Expedia reviews this listing to ensure it reflects the actual services offered.

Not a so good stay....value for money is not there....the Rooms need un UPGRADE URGENTLY they are TOTALLY OUTDATED, bathrooms with mold. Food is just okay and the drinks, when you have the all inclusive package, are Not premium. The personnel service was very good and kind enough to let us change/try three (3) rooms, but once again, the premises are not comfortable and the pictures on the website are deceiving. Bottom line is that the Hotel is NOT well maintained and outdated...

Air Conditioning Issues

The air conditioning unit in my room was extremely loud and did not cool the room properly. Instead of providing cool air, it emitted humid air, making the room quite uncomfortable. Additionally, I noticed that the air conditioning in the lobby and dining room was not functioning during lunchtime on the day of my arrival, which added to the discomfort.

I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel with my close friend. Cesar and Alfredo made the stay very pleasant and welcoming and I appreciate them. The room cleaning was excellent however I feel like they went through my belongings but I do not know for sure. The food was pretty nasty but the drinks and fruits offered were delicious. For the price you pay I guess that is expected. The rooms were nice and not a catfish and it was very easy and affordable to call cabs directly to and from the hotel.

Overall its a nice place.

Pros: clean, secure, across from the beach, close to shops and 10 minutes from the major sites.

Cons: not a lot of food options. Paid for all inclusive it only included buffet option. As a plant based pescatarian most choices had diary and meat so I had to pay to eat at other places. There was construction happening all day and loud music mid day to late night so it was hard to rest and work remotely.

- service staff
- VIP rooms cleaned well with free minibar refills, and beach towels refills, modern power control, fan, Netflix etc.
- beautiful room despite some visible aesthetic damage here and there
- close proximity to beach & stores/restaurants
- free breakfast butlers lounge area

Negatives:
- by some standards general areas surrounding hotel could be considered run down but this would apply to the entire town
- rooftop pool is small in size and pretty full. Rooftop views not good as screen blocks your view
- free breakfast was mediocre not enough meat-free options

La comida nos alcanzaba si llegaba en el segundo turno, eso pasaba en el desayuno y en la comida , mi habitación era vip y me tuvieron que cambiar por el aire no funcionaba , en la segunda habitación tuve que tener aparte un ventilador , el bar dos dias las botellas vacía, el staff del hotel amable pero la piscina no está nada agradable no tiene comodidad yo no lo recomiendo para nada y de hecho llegue enferma del estómago

The location is bar none. Across from a great beach, right by the hop on hop off juan valdez stop. The building is very nice and clean. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I bought the all inclusive and the food was great. The pool is clean and right by the snacks and drinks. The ride to the pier/ downtown is 12000 or 5usd right from the hotel taxi depot. Right behind the hotel is a highly walkable thoroughfare with shops and restaurants.

I stayed here with one of my girlfriends for a week. The hotel itself was fine. Rooms were good enough and the location was good (across from the beach and a $2 uber to the downtown area where we spent most of our time. What was extremely unacceptable was the behaviour of the hotel staff. They were so CREEPY and made my friend and I very uncomfortable. One of the men obsessively texted and called me on whatsapp - I did not give him my number so he must have got it from the hotel information. Another staff member called into the hotel room at 3am asking if my friend wanted company. We would avoid certain areas of the hotel so we wouldn’t have to see these people. No where else during our trip did we feel this uncomfortable as young women. Extremely upset that this happened. We didn’t want to complain either because the guy that called into our room seemed like the night manager so we didn’t know who to go to. Don’t stay here unless you have a guy with you.

The hotel was nice and you get what you pay for with the all inclusive. I did like breakfast and lunch but I was never impressed with there lunch selections . Th A/C I’m my room was bad , it only got my room cool enough to be tolerable . But definitely not cool . I brought it to the hotel staff attention a number of times but I will have to assume that’s how there AC’s work . I did enjoy a few nights at there disco and it was fun and the staff was friendly . The entire staff that worked in the kitchen was great . My rating would absolutely be a lot higher if it was not for the AC

The property was nice and the staff were friendly. Very few staff spoke English but were willing to figure it out with google translate or finding a staff that spoke English. Beach was closed by Tourism Police at 6pm every night. We were there during a heat wave and our air conditioner didn't work so they were happy to move us room and get us a fan. Be careful of the tour guys right outside the hotel. If is better behind hotel at Citysight Seeing Tours. Reasonable prices that didn't go up if you weren't Spanish speaking. Make sure you confirm taxi price before leaving the hotel.

Place is Ok... if you smoke... don't go there, they treat you like you have a disease...only one smoking area outside the hotel in a corner super dirty and all sales people harass you... Also, their elevators are a completed joke prepare to take 10 to 15 minutes before you get to your room or the lobby (It will take you to every single floor) As a smoker I will never go to this place again.

I liked it because it was quite clean, staff was super friendly. The way that treat your guest is horrible, my best friend’s family was in Cartagena and they came over to say hi and drink something but a supervisor immediately ordered a security guy to hold the elevator. He stated that they dont accept visitors because of security reasons but if i pay fee per visitor it wouldnt be an issue.

The furniture and facilities are very outdated. The staff is very friendly, food in the buffet is good. The pool area is always crowded and is not as pretty as it seems in the pictures. The rooms air conditioners don’t work well.

However, the location is great and there are a lot of shopping places and restaurants walking distance. Taxis are always available downstairs too, and they are very cheap. Beach os across the street and is beautiful, just have to be aware of the people trying to sell you products as they are very insistent.

However, we had trouble with rooms and move twice, first room the there was a water leak in the bathroom, second room the air conditioner was not working, and the third room the TV would not change to English.

Outside at the beach the vendors are aggressive and annoying not a relaxing place if you want peace and quiet.

The hotel is a 4 star hotel , but the staff lacks 4 star service, only a few staff members speak any English, I understand that it’s a another county , but staff dealing with tourists should have some English speakers on staff , we where in the vip room which really did not give us any benefits, so if you are planning on staying here not worth the money for vip rooms , the rooms are small and other then front desk clerk which they call a butler not worth the money , the breakfast was ok there is no special area for vips , there are choices for breakfast but the staff can not handle the volume,

There are plenty of stores and restaurants to walk to around the hotel. The beach is ok but expect to be approached by people trying to sell you things constantly and they can be very pushy. The hotel had a good, quick breakfast and there are always taxis around if you want to go to the old city for the day.

Servicio deficiente. Tienen muy poco personal. Si por la comida es, no recomiendo ir por mas de 2 días pues repiten el menú con demasiado frecuencia, créanme se lo dice alguien que duro 5 noches, 6 días. Es tan patético el hotel que hasta el uso de la piscina debes reservarlo. El personal de servicio del restaurante es desatento, pides algo hasta 3 veces y te ignoran. En más de una ocasión cosas tan elementales como la cubertería o servilletas tenia uno que pararse a buscarla. Es ridiculo ver cómo una línea de 15 clientes ven solo 1 o 2 personas te sirven 8 variedades del buffet, caramba al menos tengan 1 servidor cada dos platos. Por cierto deben arreglar la puerta automática con rampa de la entrada, está diseñada para abrir con el tacto y da pena que ellos la abren con asistencia de una seguridad si es que alguien nota que debes usarla. No tienen room service, y es ridículo que si uno mismo quiere llevarle comida a su acompañante de habitación del buffet haya casi que rogarle al capitán de servicio, como si la comida que se pago con el alojamiento es regalado. Todo eso sin contar que el checki-in te te llevan de mano a un cuarto piso a un salon de actividades porque no tienen una logística para atenderte en en lobby cuando tienen alta ocupación. DEFINITIVAMENTE MAL HOTEL, MAL SERVICIO, NO VOLVERÍA Y NO LO RECOMIENDO.

what I like the most was the beach in front of the hotel. what I dislike was the harassment. everywhere you would go they would harrass you

Quiero dejar saber q el hotel tiene nuchas restrinciones que no las ponen en las características cuando haces la reservacion parece un regimen hay que hacer reserva para todo yo unndia llame a las 6 30 am para la reserva de la picina y ya no habia la suerte q trabaja un gerente q es muy amable y ate to y trato de resolver todas las incomodidades pero no se puede tomar ni un trago en la picina tienen a un vigilante q te sientes vigilado en fin demaciadas restrinciones que hacen de tu estancia algo desagradable
