The hotel is fairly high up the hillside, so the drive up is exciting! The hotel itself is amazing. We had a great corner room and balcony with amazing sea and valley views. The staff were very friendly. The only downside was the restaurant was only open for breakfast during our stay, so dinners had to be elsewhere.

Great little gem high up on the mountain which gorgeous tranquil views.
Receptionist was super helpful and very informative, always helped us where we can. Couldnt fault the hotel, it was a lovely stay, great staff..amazing breakfast and beautiful nooks around the hotel. A joy to stay.

Villa Alto is a lovely old house set high up in the hills above Ponta do Sol. With beautiful views. You will definitely need a hire car.

The Staff are wonderful and work very hard to make you feel welcome. The breakfast is amazing, all freshly made from scratch. Sadly there was no dinner service available during our stay.
Our room (no 9)was small and needed some TLC. The weather during our stay was stormy and the room was cold and damp. The curtains were stained and hanging from the rails. The sash windows need attention/replacement as all three were exposed to the wind and rain.

We would definitely return to Villa Alto and hope for better weather.

Excellent hosts at this magnificent old-school hotel. The views are stunning, and the interior of the hotel is warm and welcoming. GPS directions don’t work so well, so just follow the blue signs up from the center of Ponta do Sol

Set high up on the side of a mountain, you have beautiful views from your room and property. The rooms are older but go with the setting and are very comfortable. The staff is outstanding. Graciela and Brayanni were so helpful and fun to talk to. They both truly made our stay incredible.

There is a daily breakfast, which was outstanding. There is wine, beer, and other spirits that can be purchased on premises during your stay.

The pool was wonderful, but if you don’t like pools, ask for some beach towels and head to one of many beaches.

If you like cats, there are some to great you everyday. They were so sweet and friendly.

We had a lovely relaxing holiday watching birds of prey over the gorge by the pool. The staff are excellent and the food delicious. High up in the mountains so nice and quiet. We hired a car but I think there were buses available near by.

Boutique hotel sounded like a good idea until we had to take an extremely dangerous road to reach the place with very limited parking spots. Our room did not have Air conditioning, not even a fan and the room was very warm. Opening the window connected you with the noisy road right at the window and leaving you completely exposed to anyone climbing in the room through the window. The front desk lady was rude, and did not even offer any accommodations to make our stay bearable and so we had to leave and book another hotel. If you want to go for a very steep adventure, risk not having a parking and sleeping in a room with no ventilation, air conditioning or a fan the this might be your place.

Peaceful characterful hotel

This hotel is uphill from Ponta do Sol and, having arrived from Funchal by bus, we were prepared to walk what looks on the map like a couple of kilometres. However, we decided to take a taxi and were glad we did, as the journey by road is more like 6 or 7 kms. The taxi was 10eu, quite reasonable.
At the hotel a very warm welcome from charming manager Feliks, who went out of his way to be helpful at all times. Beautifully situated old manor house in a peaceful rural location, with immense traditional character, well appointed rooms & fabulous views. Amazing value. Good buffet breakfasts in the attached restaurant, though we were disappointed that it was otherwise closed (perhaps out of season?) as we had no car. There are few local facilities apart from a cafe next door with limited menu. Nevertheless we enjoyed our peaceful days by the pool and a couple of pleasant levada walks accessible just up the hill.
Our only criticism/suggestion is about the mention on the website of own quinta produce such as orchard fruit and honey, raising expectations of sampling home-produced foods. Sadly, not only was there no such produce apparent at breakfast but, as almost always these days, standard mass-produced fare such as plastic & foil servings of imported butter, jam and honey. What a shame! It would really enhance the customer experience and the reputation of a character rural hotel like this to offer locally sourced ingredients.

Alt i alt havde vi et godt ophold med 3 overnatninger. Fin modtagelse.
Værelset var pænt stort og senge var gode.
Savnede kaffebreve på værelse - der var kun tebreve.
Synes dog ejendom var noget slidt - og vinduer i vores værelse var i meget dårlig stand - og hul i glas (det ene vindue var helt lukket med brædder pga stand).
I fællesrum / stue trak det, så det var koldt at sidde en aften på denne årstid. Der var ikke wifi på værelset - kun i fælllesrum, hvilket var lidt træls nu koldt i fællesrum.
Parkering er sparsom og i lille går eller ude på vej langs hotel - det var ikke nemt at parkere med mellemstor bil.
Dejlig lækker stor morgenmadsbuffet med lidt variation.

Das Villa Alto Boutique Hotel ist eine Frechheit. Unser Zimmer hatte zwei zerbrochene Fensterscheiben, ein Fenster war von außen zugenagelt, damit man sich nicht an den Fensterscherben verletzt. Die Balkontür defekt, es regnete herein. Im Winter ist das Haus völlig ungeeignet, da es sich nicht heizen lässt. So wurde alles feucht und wir haben uns sehr erkältet. Die Aufenthaltsräume sind ebenfalls nicht geheizt, die Gäste saßen in Thermojacken und in Decken gehüllt beim Frühstück und am Abend.
Das versprochene Restaurant gibt es nicht. Das bedeutet, jeden Abend ins nächste Dorf fahren - eine Taxifahrt von jeweils 25€. Viele Gäste haben sich im Supermarkt versorgt und abends im ungeheizten Aufenthaltsraum eine kalte Mahlzeit eingenommen.

Quelle charmante demeure, tout est bien pensé et on a l’impression d’avoir fait un bond dans le temps. Petit déjeuner buffet très bon avec du salé et du sucré fait maison gâteaux, crêpes, pancakes. Seul bemol, l’hôtel n’a plus de restaurant et devoir faire 25 minutes de route pour dîner par des chemins très sinueux en plus c’est compliqué. Pourquoi ne pas proposer un petit snacking simple pour le soir ou un buffet froid?

Très joli domaine, le personnel est accueillant, bienveillant et de bons conseils.
Dommage qu’il n’y avait pas de service de restaurant sur place, sachant que sur le site c’est indiqué qu’il y en a un.
On a juste pas eu de chance par rapport à notre chambre si tu es directement sur la rue ou certaines personnes se gare juste devant notre fenêtre…
Cependant, le cadre est magnifique.

Das Frühstück war hervorragend und sehr divers. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und das Zimmer und das gesamte Haus sehr stylisch mit Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet. Die Unterkunft ist etwas umständlicher zu erreichen mit dem Fahrzeug, dafür mit wunderschöner Aussicht. Einziger Kritikpunkt wäre, dass das Zimmer etwas sauberer sein könnte und die Räumlichkeiten nicht mehr im Neusten Zustand sind.

Men ingen service ig ikke alle medarbejdere talte engelsk. Pool håndklæder skulle man lede efter. Katte og kattehår gør det svært for folk med allergi.

Die Lage ist gut, aber es müssten dringend mal die Zimmer renoviert werden. In unserem Fall ließ sich die Badtüre nicht schließen (verzogen). Die Eingangstür zum Zimmer ist so undicht, dass der komplette Lichteinfall von draußen nach innen scheint.

Situation au calme mais à quel prix !

Très bon petit déjeuner.
Accès difficile en pleine montagne avex des % élevés. Ceci dit, cela ne doit pas poser de problème pour quelqu'un habitant en montagne.
Personnel un peu froid, excepté la dame de l'accueil, pour le coup accueillante ! Nous avions pourtant une excellente image des portuguais, extrêmement gentils et accueillants, vela a t-il changé ou est-ce uniquement à Madère ?
Belle piscine, à l'ombre tout l'après-midi, ce qui peut être un avantahe quand il fait très chaud !

Dröm dröm dröm! Vi testade 5 olika hotell på vår resa till Madeira och detta var BÄST! Otroligt mysigt läge och eftersom det är få personal kändes det som vi hade hela huset för oss själva. Bilderna visar verkligen hur det ser ut på hotellet och stämmer överens med verkligheten.

Frukosten serveras i restaurangen och får 10/10. Varje kväll längtade vi efter morgondagens frukost. Det fanns stor variation av färka råvaror och vältillagade smårätter. Massor med frö och nötter till yoghurten och nybakade kakor. Vi fick även spela biljard på kvällarna i restaurangen även fast ingen personal var där.

Skulle jag åka tillbaka till Madeira är det här jag kommer bo!

Vi gick från Ponto de sol till hotellet och det tog över 1h och var väldigt brant. Därför skulle jag rekommendera att ha bil. Taxi kostade 10 euro från Ponto de sol.

Hemos pasado 4 noches en este maravilloso boutique hotel. Para algunos, puede que sea algo incómodo llegar o que tenga pocos restaurantes/tiendas cerca. Pero la verdad es que lo que ganas es mucho más. Las vistas del paisaje, desde las habitaciones o desde cualquier rincón de este lugar, son maravillosas. El territorio es muy bonito; te encuentras con muchos rincones donde puedes parar, sentarte, tomarte algo, leer un libro, lo que sea. Es muy, muy verde, con muchas plantas y flores, y es muy acogedor. Tiene piscina al aire libre (una pena que no la pudimos usar por el tiempo).
El hotel en sí está muy bien cuidado y tiene muy buen gusto. Para los que disfrutan de antigüedades y objetos antiguos, es un sitio perfecto. Tiene estilo, sentido y carácter, y es muy acogedor. Hay muchos detalles por descubrir en cada momento. Y lo que más me ha encantado es el comedor/restaurante: es un placer desayunar en un sitio tan, tan bonito.
Al ser 4 noches, me habría gustado que los desayunos fueran más diversos, aunque la comida era rica.
El personal fue muy amable y sonriente. Lo recomiendo a todos los que disfrutan de los detalles y la historia; otros lo pueden encontrar \"viejo/desgastado\"... pero vamos, lo que le da encanto. ¡Muy recomendable!

Ausgesprochen freundliches Personal. Wir haben schon wirklich viele Urlaube gemacht, aber hier noch nie hat uns jemand zum Geburtstag gratuliert. Vielen Dank! Geräumiges Zimmer und gutes Frühstück.Einziges Manko ist das fehlende WLAN auf den Zimmern.Tipp: Wer zum ersten Mal hinfährt sollte der Beschilderung an der Straße und nicht Google Maps folgen, denn der kürzeste Weg ist eng und steil.

Smukt hotel med fantastisk udsigt

Hotellet er smukt og placeringen fantastisk. Maden og service var i top.
Til gengæld mangler hotellet en kærlig hånd ift. renovering, hovedrengøring og komfort ift. behagelige stole i restaurant og udeområder.
I badeværelset manglede fx badeforhæng, nogle små ting, som let kunne udbedres ville højne opholdet betragteligt. Og så ville muligheden for køb af lokale vine til maden og eftermiddags drinken være prikken over i’et :)

Die Unterkunft ist einfach fantastisch.
Direkt wenn man auf den Parkplatz fährt sieht man eine tolle Sitzmöglichkeit unter einem Pavillon, die abends schön beleuchtet ist. Hier man eine gute Sicht bis zum Meer. Das Gebäude an sich bietet super viel. Vom Zimmer aus hatten wir einen tollen Blick auf den Pool und der Wintergarten in dem auch das Frühstück serviert wird ist einfach ein Traum! Vor unserem Balkon war ein riesen Avocadobaum und die geernteten Avocados gab es morgens zum Frühstück.
Absolut empfehlenswert, wenn jemand eine Unterkunft mit besonderem flair haben möchte.

Der Aufenthalt war eine wahre Freude. Wer ein Auto hat und somit flexibel ist, ist hier sehr gut aufgehoben!
Das Personal war sehr aufmerksam und vor allem die öffentlichen Bereiche sehr liebevoll ausgestattet.
Sollte man einen Kritikpunkt finden wollen, so wäre einzig und allein die Dusche in unserem Zimmer zu erwähnen. Sie würde sich über eine neue Duschtasse, ein Ersetzen der fehlenden Fliesen und die Ansage zum Kampf gegen einsetzenden Schimmel aufgrund der Feuchtigkeit sehr freuen.

So lovely!

Quaint and just lovely. The restaurant has no menu but you get what they offer you on the day. It feels homemade which is nice. The view is excellent and the area is gorgeous. The room lacked vacuuming and was a bit worn, but no big deal. There are beautiful walks in the area - we easily made do without a car.

Hôtel super sympa avec une décoration très british. Le personnel est très gentil et aux petits soins avec les clients (Samantha géniale).
Reproches : pression d'eau trop faible et difficile à avoir de l'eau chaude, et insonorisation à revoir. Malgré cela, c'est hôtel vaut vraiment le coup d'y aller.

Déçus !

très déçus pour notre première expérience Hotels com. Nous pensions qu'une Quinta aussi éloignée de tout nous permettrait d'avoir une chambre confortable . Arrivés là bas, parties communes sympas mais nous nous sommes retrouvés dans une toute petite chambre, sans doute une des plus petites de la Quinta, avec une petite salle d'eau. Avons demandé si nous pouvions une autre chambre un peu plus grande et salle de bains(pour info, sur le site d'un de vos concurrents, il restait des chambres beaucoup plus grandes, avec salle de bains, à des prix moindres). Nous avons eu un refus catégorique. (nous ne demandions pas de réduction, bien entendu) - Aucune chaise, rien pour poser ses valises (à part une commode et un radiateur .....), à part prises pour lumières pas de prise dans chambre, aucune dans salle de bains - Petit déjeuner moyen - Personnel pas du tout à l'écoute

Für Wanderer in hohem Berggebiet: ideal! Für fußläufiges Volk wie ich, auch das Fahren, sehr anstrengend auf und ab, nur Serpentinen. Man sieht unten nicht, wo man oben herauskommt, weil es immer wieder Biegungen um Berge gibt. (Gefühlte) 80% Gefälle! Die Insel ist nur mit Fahrzeug zu erkunden, sonst kommt man nicht weit. Allein zu wandern hab ich mich nicht getraut, weil ich ja schon mit Auto Probleme hatte, mich zurecht zu finden. Die Unterkunft hatte ich von Deutschland aus gebucht: (leider nicht erkannt)oberste Bergspitze, 80% Steigung, engste Straßen, fließend warm + kalt Wasser, gut ausreichendes Frühstück mit selbst gebackenem Kuchen + frischem Obst! Liegestühle am Pool, sehr freundliche englisch sprachige Bedienung.
