The view from the balcony off the room, and the pool area, are beautiful and scenic. The pool is not heated, but the sauna was nice and hot. The staff are helpful and efficient. The breakfast is bountiful and delicious.

Super friendly lady at Reception check in.Helpful clear explanation of facilities. The hotel spotless A bit of wear tear on room drapes and bed base but Spacious room and bathroom good shower and superb balcony views.Small dining room meant 7.30 breakfast was crowded but by 8am empty.Buffet was adequate great scram egg and typical portuguese cakes fruit etc. Pool terrace was perfect ,views overlooking hills and sea (small sauna cabin looked great did not try) The pool bar restricted hours.Oddly hotel lacks any kind of lounge or bar area to sit in apart from the terrace. I enjoyed hotel but disliked the area.Unless you have car or take taxi there is nowhere to walk outside the hotel The roads are absurdly steep narrow and pavements limited. You can walk to supermarket thats all unless you like mountain hiking.The most awkward thing about hotel is the location. My first time in Madeira so it came as surprise to me but if you know the island maybe you are familiar with this. Fortunately the local Bolt app taxi can save you money. Yellow cab to funchal was 30 euro while the bolt averaged 6 -11 euro a trip

Great location, great views. Needs a little bit of repairs in some areas but nothing extreme. Staff was very nice, helpful and always in a good mood.
Parking onsite is a plus. Breakfast was repetitive everyday but enough choice to keep you happy.

It was a little to find on the day of our arrival, but after that it was a perfect location. It was quiet but had easy access to the highway to get to all destination. The staff was very nice and helpful. The rooms were clean, a little old and in need of some repair. The yard is beautiful with trees and flowers, well maintained. Convenient parking available, not necessary to park on the street on steep hills.

Unfortunately the air condition system wasn’t working in our room while we stayed, and the room was terribly hot all the time! So, we hardly sleept at all. Since we paid for an air conditioned room we didn’t get what we wanted. Maybe the manager should think some refund.

Nice hotel with beautiful views of the village and ocean. Rooms are a decent size with balconies. Breakfast had a good selection of hot and cold options. Staff were helpful and friendly and the most important feature was a flat parking lot on property, if you’ve ever been to Madeira you can appreciate this feature.

Property is in a good location, with free parking. However does not qualify as 4 or 5 star hotel, no fridge in room or coffee/tea making facilities. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, with pillows as flat as pancakes. Hotel needs modernising with leaks, paint on walls bubbling, dated warn carpets, warn hard flooring in need of varnishing, balcony had concrete chunks missing with metal bars exposed. Breakfast was the same every morning with eggs, and cheap streaky bacon and hotdogs with selection of cereal, bread and fruit. Should add more with pastries, beans etc... easy fixes for the hotel to reach its potential as it could be really nice and the staff were lovely.

We enjoyed a very relaxing vacation at the hotel. The staff is very helpful and the views are amazing. The indoor parking is very convenient (BTW the car is a must, the area is not pedestrian-friendly, and there is a lot of places to see on the island where a car is the best way to get to)

didn't like no tea tray in room , no fridge in room, aircon in room poor, balcony furniture needs replacing, sun lounging beds round pool very uncomfortable over worn and need replacement, the pool bar was closed, breakfast was lacking choices, no toaster, one day ran out of English breakfast tea bags. The hotel is a bit run down and needs tideying up and painting, the grounds are large and interesting, all the staff were fantastic couldn't falt them. The Quinta was like stepping back in time, We did enjoy our stay very much.

Quinta outside of Funchal Centre.

Enjoyed five days in this hotel on bed & breakfast basis. It is more suited for adults only. The hotel could be a set piece from the \"Hercule Poirot TV series\" based on its main lay out. The modern affinity pool and bar service area is however excellent as is the buffet breakfast provided. WiFi worked well in reception area but would recommend it should be available in hotel rooms.The ambience of the hotel to a small degree is spoiled by the new modern road system in front of the hotel and a supermarket that is fairly adjacent. The package we had included transport to and from the airport that worked well apart from on arrival other booked parties failed to materialise that delayed us for about an hour. We would thoroughly recommend the Jeep Safari 5 tour and would have done another if we were staying longer. Avoid Funchal if there is more than one cruise liner in port. There were three when we visited, and the Blue Line Monte Tours were hopeless as there was no space to hop on and off as promoted resulting in a 26 Euro round trip without stopping off at any of the attractions en route! A good choice of restaurants to suit all tastes in street adjacent to the cable car station.

This hotel is definitely not 5 star as advertised and also etched on the entrance door. It is in a desperate need of updating from the room down to the sunbeds. What a shame as the hotel is in a nice area up in the hills with fantastic views over Camara do Losbos and the sea behind. We took the hotel shuttle into Funchal one day to be dropped off somewhere behind the old town with quite a long walk and a longer walk back up hill to catch it for our return. It was a long drive back dropping people on roué at another hotel. We discovered the local bus the next day!
The hotel has 2 restaurants. Baccus restaurant was excellent with very good service. This was where we had our breakfast which was good with good choices.

Nice hotel with more character than many of the newer hotels. Looking a little worn around the edges in places. Nice view from all the rooms. Moderately priced BBQ restaurant and a \"posher\" Buffet restaurant which we found a bit overpriced for what was served.
Staff were all unfailing helpful and overall very peaceful. Not much to do on a wet Wednesday though as it is a bit too far out of town. There is a free shuttle but it is not quite the same as being able to walk out of your door into a street full of activity. Good access to walking. Would recommend the \"Safari\" trips on Landrovers. Great fun,well informed guides and a good way to see the island.

Away from it all!

Quiet location, with a good, distant view of the ocean and city lights. A bit hard to find, with two rated restaurants on the property. This hotel is part of a small chain of hotels. It was rated by Expendia as a four star, they rate themselves a five star property. The property is feeling little tired, and could use a face lift, especially for the price. Internet only in the lobby area, not on pool deck and not in the rooms. Still has a Cathode Ray Tube style TV, almost an antique at this point. Our balcony had peeling paint and stucco, and the hardwood floors in the room could use refinishing. The common areas with the exception of the pool area were better, and the car park and breakfast were included in the rate. Breakfast was a high point. Probably the best breakfast we had in our week in Madiera were the two days we spent here.

Room had balcony, decent size, which faced out to sea with lovely views. Double bed was two singles pushed together which, is really what it is, no great. Very clean although bathroom just a little tired, needing a wee touch up with paint etc, but was immaculate, so no need to complain. swimming pool was good but absolutely baltic, although once in it was bearable. good sunbeds and always lots of space, so nice to relax. Restaurant was lovely as was food.The main part of hotel is just wonderful, we sat with a couple of liquers, drinks that is not some sort of foreign persons, and took ourselves back to a life where we lived the life of that time. Lovely little room on the top floor, we had coffee on the balcony on our first night it was just so special. Staff were just great, very helpful and cheery.

Quiet and in the hills

The Quinta could do with a lick of paint and new carpets but if you are able to see beyond that this place has a great deal going for it. We didn't have
a car for our week there and frankly didn't did one. The Quinta has a free minibus for trips into Funchal which we used twice and saved us a fortune on taxis. Being part of Charming Hotels we were able to be transported(free) and feed at some of the other hotels in the group and I would recommend this highly to anyone considering going. The pool and sauna were good and waiter service excellent. The breakfast was both bountiful and quality. The drinking of Buck's Fizz first thing in the morning is something that I could easily acquire as a daily ritual.
The Quinta is situated very close (500m) to the start of a levadar walk to a glass floored building, where we had a picnic, supplied courtesy of the supermarket opposite the Quinta. The 3 hours trek each way including a stop off at a small bar was well worth the effort and made us feel healthy. We went on an organised trip to 25 fontes arranged through reception.
I really can't praise too highly the warmth and friendliness of the staff and people of The Quinta.
We will return

Comfortable and spacious hotel in pleasant gardens

Hotel is on the edge of a village with shops and restaurants within walking distance. The daily minibus service to Funchal is great, much easier than driving and trying to find parking.
Rooms are clean and comfortable, and the hotel does not feel crowded even at full occupancy.
There was a good choice of foods on the breakfast buffet, and service was prompt and friendly.

We stayed at this hotel just for one night. Unfortunately they put us in the villa which was not in the main hotel where we thought we would stay because of the fantastic views from the rooms. Another niggle was the fact that there was only a buffet dinner on offer when we wanted something light and a la carte. We did manage to find a good restaurant in town the Estrela Do Norte (recommend this as an excellent alternative)

A room with a view!

An excellent hotel unusually located. Not your rowdy 'Benidorm' type hotel by the seaside - as so many hotels are - but instead situated about 1000 feet, or more, up from the sea in the foothills providing excellent views of Camara do Lobos and the mountains to the North. It was a little difficult to find as the hotel is not visible from the road and certainly my SatNav was having a few problems with the roads in Madeira! The tranquility of the hotel is wonderful and with two excellent restaurants to choose from you could certainly have your cake and eat it! After which you could sunbathe or swim in the hotel pool; which rarely had more than two people in it. If you like peace and tranquility and be spoiled by food and wine this is the place to come. There is very opportunity for exercise with the mountainous terrain and various trips as well as just walking up hill into the local village.

The hotel is set quite high up, with good views, some 25 mins by mini bus from Funchal.

I cannot fault the every helpful staff, but the hotel and the rooms are in need of refurbishment, e.g. the carpet from reception is very faded and patched with a newer piece, which is a different colour, the concrete wall at the end of my room's balcony is crumbling and showing the steel reinforcement bars, the wooden floor in the room is very faded where the sun shines in, there are holes in the plaster caused by the edges of the bedside tables and the there appears to be water damage to the lampshades.

I spent time there in February. The hotel was only about a quarter full at most, consequently the hotel bar and the main restaurant weren't open, the brasserie and a bar down the hill, owned by the hotel, were open. The gardens would be nice, but need maintenance work.

Elegant old quinto, now the restaurant ('Bacchus' good but expensive), breakfast room, bar and library is perched on top of modern hotel rooms arranged in two wings spread down the hillside. Surrounding vineyards now lush gardens. Old winestores in the grounds is another good and more reasonably priced restaurant. Rooftop pool covered in winter but strongly chlorinated. Great views from anywhere. Tricky to find at first, the location is good for everywhere but a car is a must unless you like organised excursions.

Ideal hotel for independent traveller with car.

Friendly and welcoming staff on reception. Comfortable room with lovely outlook over the private garden down to the coast about 3 miles away. Good centre for touring but without a car you might feel a bit out on a limb. Ideal for a walking holiday. The large covered swimming pool is excellent. A delicious breakfast, included in the room rate, can be taken on the terrace to enjoy the sun!

Had a very positive experience, right from pick up from airport to organising sightseeing tours, staff was efficient, friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was a fabulous spread, especially enjoyed on the sunny terrace ( where umbrellas were thoughtfully provided) even early mornings.
The courtesy bus service to and from town was much appreciated bonus.
Enjoyed the pool and the sauna on relaxing afternoon.

Lovely hotel

Excellent hotel in a quiet area away from Funchal and Funchal's tourist hotspots. All rooms look down towards the south coast and the sea and have balconies. The staff all spoke English and were very helpful. The hotel has a highly-rated restaurant but also a separate restaurant in the grounds specialising in barbecued meats. We visited at the end of March but it was pleasant to sunbathe most days; we swam in the heated outdoor pool daily, it had its retractable roof in place. One tip: if arriving by rented car from the airport, use exit 5 and follow the main road uphill until you see a sign to the hotel or reach the vicinity of the modern 'hypermercado'; the hotel entrance is up a steep, one-way-uphill street close to that. But exit 5 is only accessible to eastbound motorway traffic, so continue on to exit 4, loop under the motorway and drive back to exit 5.

This was a very comfortable hotel in a quiet area. The pool was excellent and a good size. The meals we had there were of a very high standard- but the dining room was relatively quiet in the evenings and lacked atmosphere and as a result the staff in anything were over-attentive.

A truly \"Charming\" Experience

A lovely, quiet hotel, comfortable room and good restaurants. Staff were very helpful and efficient. Location meant that we needed to use local taxis or free hotel courtesy bus to get into Funchal. Recommend hop on/hop off tour bus to get around town - 12 Euros for 2 day ticket. Mountain roads are a bit hairy so only hire a car if you are a confident driver. Cable car ride to Monte and botanic gardens is spectacular. Madeira is a beautiful island for a quiet and relaxing break.

The hotel is situated far out of Funchal. With no car It meant that evening meals were compromised by the 40 min journey into Funchal. Taxis were 20 euros each way - the hotel informing us they cost 15 euros. The hotel bus timetable was inaccurate. Buses were good value at just over one euro but they stop mid evening. Most evenings we were tied to the two restaurants on site. The grill served local speciality kebabs but the quality of meat was poor. The 'gourmet' restaurant was better quality but a meal for two with wine will cost 75 to 80 euros There is no relaxing bar area within the hotel at evening time, the small number of staff coping with restaurant and bar at the same time. The village offered little with the three restaurants often shut and two with no menus displayed.
The hotel itself was a little shabby with flaking plaster in the main foyer and our room was a little 'smelly' (maybe from past smoke) and again shabby, scraped wooden floors and concrete-exposed balconey. The shower was not working on our arrival with the bath slippery and with chipped corners. The temperature also dips higher up the hills and the pool was not kept at the promised temperature. The hotel also failed to inform guests that the courtesy bus would not run on the public holiday.
On a positive note the arranged mini-bus tours were excellent, A beautiful island but no longer value for money.

Lovely hotel

Although the weather was disappointing (we had a lot of rain - February) we had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The hotel was just what we needed - away from the bustle of Funchal yet conveniently situated with magificent sea views from our room. The hotel staff were really helpful and very professional. The two hotel restaurants are both very good - the Adega serves good local dishes at a reasonable price, while the Bachus is more formal and expensive but good for a special occasion. We ate there once and the food was delicious. Breakfast was a treat - fresh and plentiful with tropical fruits and even \"champagne\". Our only disappointing meal was at Churchills in Camara dos Lobos, although the town itself is well worth a visit - try to see the little sea farer's chapel by the harbour. The village of Estreito where the hotel is situated is OK but nothing special. The hotel does provide a free bus service into Funchal each day which is handy. Our favourite visit in Funchal was to the convent of Santa Clara - truly beautiful - don't miss it. We look forward to returning to Madeira and may well stay at the Quinta again.

Fly direct and don't go out of season.

The hotel was adequate but did not warrant it's five star rating.
Breakfast was very good.
Our prime reason for going was to find dolphins and possibly swim with them. The sea was judged \"too rough\" but on the lee side of the island conditions were calm. The trip coincided with a carnival which may have had something to do with the lack of enthusiasm buit a tour guide said that the boat owners are not interested unless they can guarantee a full quota.

Inland, the island was very verdant with some wonderful views and walks but even I could tell that the shopping in Funchal was dire.

A quick visit to one one of the main hotels confirmed that other holiday makers included some who were tired but not particularly emotional.
Where have all the young people gone and why doesn't anybody smile?

Loved our first visit to Madeira and enjoyed the hotel and its grounds. Comfortable if old fashioned room with great views. Took advice from other reviews and brought our own kettle, although room service was efficient and not overly expensive. Breakfast was okay with good variety; hot buffet items sometimes cold. Good coffee. Ate in both restaurants and expected better food for supposedly Michelin rated and quite high priced establishments; not that we found great eating anywhere on the island. Free internet in lobby was a nice touch. Service was exemplary.

Detta var 1 av 5 boenden på Madeira och trots att det var näst dyrast per natt var det sämst av de hotell vi testade. Hotellet var säkert bra på 80 talet men saknar upprustning sedan dess.

Vattenskador i väggarna så putsen faller av. Instängd lukt på filtar och möblerna var nedsuttna.

Frukosten var katastrof. Halvfabrikat och frukt och grönt smakade lök då det verkar som de ej bytt skärbräda mellan produkterna. Vi hade svårt att ens hitta något på frukostbuffén som var gott.

Bilderna visar känslan av ett butik hotell men på plats kändes det som sällskapsresan.

Mais attention la chambre avait une odeur affreuse d humidité ou d égouts
La moquette à besoin d être changer
Le jacuzzi ne fonctionnait pas

Tres bel hotel.
Un accueil tres greable et de tres belles chambres.
Hotel avec une belle terrasse pour le petit dejeuner ensoleillé et un beau jardin avec une piscine exterieure. Tres agreable.

Poderia só ter um pequeno frigorífico nos quartos. Pois tudo fecha muito cedo ate o restaurante e poderias ter um mini bar no quarto . De resto perfeito 🙃

El personal muy amable y atento, el sitio es muy bonito y las vistas preciosas, necesita renovar un poco, su bufete no pasa del aprobado y la limpieza de la habitación podría ser bastante mejor.

süßes Hotel mit Charme, nicht so ein Bunker wie viele große Hotels. Etwas renovierungsbedürftig ( oder man nennt es Vintage :) ). Besonders der Aufzug könnte eine Überholung gebrauchen. Zimmer sind aber sauber und ordentlich! Essen ist gut - Frühstück sbuffet hat eine solide Auswahl allerdings gibt es jeden Tag exakt das gleiche. Da wäre etwas Abwechslung gut. Pool ist nicht zu groß aber sauber und vollkommend ausreichend. Für den Preis eine sehr gute Gesamtleistung. Auch relativ zentral. In 10-15min ist man in Funchal. Außenrum sind noch viele kleinere Orte die auch sehr sehenswert sind. Schönes Hotelgelände - sehr grün.

Schöne Lage, sehr nettes und bemühtes Personal ohne Ausnahme.
Gutes, reichhaltiges Frühstück.
Lediglich die Ausstattung ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber in Ordnung und sauber.
