It was nice experience, staffs were good, food was nice although we prefer vegetarian or chicken only food.
I arrived early and they allow to checkin at 13:00 as I had kid.

Found few staffs from Nepal and Pakistan and they helped me.

Quite surprised and disappointed with the limitations of this hotel, considering it marks itself as a 4*, you have only buffet style meals available, at a high price for the quality, minimal food available in the hotel through the day, even packet coffee and tea for the room is additional cost!! I’ve worked and stayed in many 4* hotels and never heard of this!!

Great place stay , loved it.

Well located approx 1 mile stroll from Funchal centre . The area has plenty of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The lido and sea access are 100 yards away. Hotel Pool was fab a great spot to unwind . The room was great, luckily we had a sea view too and we were given complimentary wine and fruit which was a very notable and welcomed bonus. Special mention to Vanessa at reception , what a great girl. Thanks Muthu Raga we loved our stay.

It is very well located with a lot of dining shopping options within walking distance… if you don’t mind walking up and down hills. Parking on site is very limited and parking on the street is also limited, but doable. The appearance of the hotel is older, but it’s well maintained. Comfortable beds. What I enjoy the most was the buffet breakfast: great options and delicious.
I also liked the pool and shaded patio area

I am sorry to say, but it was not a good experience. Good location and positive, friendly staff was not even close to compensate appaling room and bathroom. Entering the room i was hit by a heavy disinfectant/cleaning solution smell, that took couple hours of open windows to get rid off. The smell of damp from the bathroom could not be fixed though. Apart from the smell, bathroom was simply dirty, most surfaces showing smudges, and dust and hair in the more difficult to reach corners. Everything seemed a bit sticky and old, showing different states of ware. Breakfast, included in the price was mostly tasteless, and thank god for cold cuts that left something edible on the menu. Again, it is a shame, as even though it’s an old hotel, common areas seemed well maintained, staff was approachable and helpful, and the location suited me very well (easy to get from the airport, close to activities , restaurants, etc.).

1 of the elevators was down and its clear this is an older hotel. Seems like they try to upcharge you for everything. I stayed at a 3 star hotel that was nicer than this one on Madeira. This is not a 4 star hotel.

The staff is not friendly. They will not answer the phone when you dial 9. You have to come down to talk to them. The bathroom had a weird small that never could be addressed. If you have any issues with A/C, there is no one to attend to it after 5:00 P.M. No drinking water in the room. I am used to hotels providing a jug of water in every room that is unheard of here. Bring you own toiletries. I had to rush and buy shampoo and conditioner.
Pros: Good breakfast options. Very close to the park where you can enjoy the ocean. Lots of restaurants near by. Very centrally located.

Everything was good as i stayed there a few times over the years, but my only complaint is the swimming pool, as i used to work as a life guard years ago at the madeira regency club, the pool looks like theres not much care for. It is all yellow at the bottom around the corners and also around the top of the swimming pool.

I’d be hard pressed to give it 1 star.

Total scam. I booked here cause of the 4 star rating, the spa and the great reviews. A pool, balconies in every room, and the location seemed perfect. We arrived at 2am because of a delayed flight. The staff present at check in was nice. Our room wasn’t very clean, but it’s so dated it’s hard to tell. The beds are uncomfortable. It was non refundable and expensive. (Some nights were 180€). We immediately found a filthy coffee cup in the cabinet with old moldy trash in it. Looked like a nest to be honest. There isn’t actually coffee either. A dead cockroach the size of my thumb on the floor. And the bathroom surfaces smeared with a dirty rag. The blackout curtains ripped and tattered. Hard concrete bed and a stained sheet. A balcony facing a dirt patch and a parking lot. We asked to be moved and the reception was kind and agreeable. But, our only other option was almost as bad, much smaller, but on a higher floor therefore it had a better view. Although a fire escape staircase is there too. The bidet has no pressure and useless. The hot water will go cold and then burn you. Two twins pushed together are uncomfortable. Only one bedside table. Ripped blackout curtains. No coffee setup at all. We asked for coffee cups and a kettle and bought our own instant coffee, but they never replaced cups. The pool is nice but freezing,and the pool bar was never open. the bar next door called the Tipsy was awesome with a really nice bartender. We didn’t bother with the food or the spa.

Definitely not a 4*. Mediocre breakfast rooms are so outdated and furniture is grubby. Pool online said it was heated in winter this was not the case, it was like swimming in ice. When asked about it at reception they said it’s because their isn’t enough people in the hotel to warrant it being heated. How are they allowed to advertise this then? Toilet constantly made a sound unless you lifted the flush up. Bathroom was very standard.

Just wonderful. I rebooked 5 more days before the end of my stay. Great location, pool, and excellent value for money! Above all else is the employees. From the moment I walked in, Isabelle and Sarah stole my heart and made me feel at home instantly! All the other staff equally as friendly. When I read some of the negative reviews- honestly, I thought those guests must have been somewhere else! Housekeeping and the wonderful masseuse downstairs were no exception to this high level of service!!

Not as good as it once was

This was our 5th stay at Hotel Raga which is an affordable, well-located hotel in Funchal. Unfortunately, we've noticed quite a change in how the hotel is run after it was taken over by Muthu in 2017. The hotel just doesn't seem as friendly anymore, you can't get anything to eat by the pool and the bar there is constantly playing 'heartbreak' songs that put a bit of a damper on the mood. Further, when we first arrived we were put in a 'land-view', double room instead of the room we'd actually ordered which was a bit of a hassle. I really hate to say this because we've loved this hotel and stayed there so often, but it's just not as good as it once was.

Excellent hotel for the price and in a very good location with all bars,restaurants and shops within walking distance.rooms are clean,spacious and beds comfortable with nice balcony and well worth paying a bit extra for a seaview.staff very friendly and courteous and when i requested a kettle for my room,one was provided without delay.nice pool side with plenty of sunbeds and nice patio to sit+relax overlooking the sea.cant comment on breakfast as i was room only but will definitely use this hotel again-maybe as early as next month!

Lovely modern hotel about 25 mins pleasant stroll into Funchal main areas. Nice spacious rooms with sea views, balcony, bathroom and seating area within room.
Only issue we had was that the beds didn't have a mattress cover on a folded sheet which rucked up and became uncomfortable.
This was only a slight niggle and it certainly wouldn't put me off staying here again.

I didn't not like to stay in the same bed linen for 13 night's and the chamber maid and housekeeper did ignore when i did left the message about changing the linem cleaning

breakfast was awful: same type of old bread every single day, croissants were worse than the supermarket ones, artificial tasteless machine juices, waitresses look sad. shower plastic curtains in the bathroom full of mold, mattresses absolutely uncomfortable,old and you could feel the springs and we asked them to provide other ones but they were still bad. more than 100 apartments and less than 20 parking spaces. definitely not a 4 stars hotel

The view from the room was amazing...the bed was way too hard and so the pillows so sleeping was difficult. The room was only average clean as we found candy wrappers around. They didn't change the towels for the entire duration of 4 night but they did the bed every day.
One of the keys didn.t work and after a few trips back and forth to recepyion we gave up and only use one key.

We have just returned from a one week stay at the Raga. We really enjoyed our holiday.
The hotel is in an excellent situation to explore Funchal. It is a short walk into the central shopping area and surrounded by many good restaurants.
The rooms are very comfortable and spotless. We enjoyed the breakfast and found it to have a good variety of food.
We found the staff excellent and extremely helpful. We hope to return again soon. Thank you.

Raga Hotel, faultless, perfect in every way.

Hotel is in perfect location for restaurants and bars, buses and comfortable walk into Funchal. Staff friendly and cannot fault hotel in anyway. I stayed on bed and breakfast basis and that was convenient as I wanted to explore the local bars and restaurants. You may find 5 star service in hotels on the lower Road, but their location can leave them quite isolated if you want to explore the buzzing life on the level of the Raga.

I arrived very late tired due to flight changes and with computer issue couldn’t find my booking but the front desk ( Edwardo) was great help giving me great room with ocean view until they figured out in morning all cleared.
The hotel is in best location for all the needs: restaurants, tours,transportations, ocean attractions, Funchal... The hotel itself has excellent breakfast buffet with great terrace view, the pool is refreshing, Tuesday night good food with entertainment was surprising.
The hotel staff were all ready to help, I will definitely come back again.

Great value & location!

Stayed for 6 nights on a last minute impulse short break. The idea was to go touring so our plan was to use the hotel as a base.

The hotel was a lot better than we thought. Pool area has the sun throughout the day. Breakfast was ample. Parking was limited but the reception staff will take your keys and move your vehicle.

For the cost there is nothing negative to say. Hotel is a 1970-80’s design. Lifts are small and take a long time due to usage. Pillows firm but request more and that improves.

Would go back again.

The hotel is situated up the hill over looking the town of funchal.and the sea ..at the end of the day as the sunsets the scenery over the island is lke a huge Christmas tree specially at Christmas. Amazing. .new years eve we celebrated the new year in with the delights of the fireworks as guest at the hotel we were able to watch from the roof ..amazing

I have 2 small disappointments 1 being no coffee in room the fizz on new years eve may have been free but it was not one of the best

Decent hotel in a nice location

The hotel is in a great location with the front rooms having an amazing sea view.
The rooms were decent but not for 4-star hotel, the mattresses urgently require replacing and our room for example was a double but it had twin beds so we were separated as the bed moved.
Breakfast is good but no vegetarian options.
Staff is friendly apart Isabel when we kindly asked her if we could get a kettle in the room...
The swimming pool could be heated and as a suggestion it would be good to have a hot tub where the gym is given that it was always empty and that is a waste of space for something better.
Short walk to get to the centre of Funchal, plenty of restaurants and bars around.

Clean and comfortable rooms.
Hotel far from town centre but a straight Road with not much elevation if compared with the island. Buses very close and frequent.
Only down for us is rooms could contain a kettle and 2 mugs.
Didn't use the pool as we were there in February.
Breakfast was good but it would ger boring if you are staying more than a week.
Overall happy.

Would I come here again? Probably not but the location was spot on. This hotel came up as a 4* when booking it definitely was not. Needs updating a lot. We were there for 10 days bed and breakfast towards the end we couldn't face having breakfast there was no variety the food was pretty boring. The staff at reception and our cleaner were lovely and friendly however a couple of staff in the dining room for breakfast were just rude and looked like they didn't want to be there.
Overall the hotel was clean and all we needed for a cheap 10 night getaway.

Having stayed in many 4 star hotels. I was shocked to see how awful this one was. Found the lady on reception very unfriendly & unhelpful. Upon going to the room was shocked that the so called seaview was awful. Complained to unhelpful lady at reception who told us there were no other rooms available & would need to speak to the manager. Spoke to the manager an hour later who reluctantly found us another room with a better seaview. The breakfast selection was truly awful. We found a much nicer hotel a short walk away that we used in the day time and only went back to the awful Raga hotel to sleep at night. PLEASE AVOID THIS HOTEL, IT IS DEFINITELY NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL. Would not ever stay there again

Hotel was not 4 star as stated when booked. Staff were friendly. Hotel was fairly clean not fantastic. Food was minimal and average. Rooms were basic. Overall experience was ok for the 4 nights that we stayed there for wouldn't be happy if we were staying 7 nights plus.

Our room is though small but it was nicely designed. However, it has one of the worst mattresses I ever slept on. It was very hard and felt very cheap. The pillows are just as bad. If you are old and you need a hard surface to sleep on, this hotel is for you.

Used the bus from airport to Funchel 5 euro, easy 15 min walk from bus stop to hotel. Reception above swimming pool, met by very friendly staff and within minutes in my room, very clean and each day checked and replacement towels etc., buffet breakfast gave a vast simple range well presented. La gentillesse du personnel compense la vétusté du bâtiment et ses soucis d'isolation phoniques. Vraiment regrettable dans un hôtel de ce standing... La localisation est très bonne.

Personalen i receptionen var ganska sura och otrevliga.
Rummet hade varit trevligt om golvet borstades av någon gång under veckan - det blev smutsigt på golv och bord. Inget att torka med själv. Kylen var möglig, Koppar på rummet var odiskade och smutsiga när vi kom. Inga glas diskades under veckan. Smutsiga möbler. Strips på botten av poolen. Allmänt ofrächt och slitet
