Really amazing stay at this hotel. Hotel was gorgeous and in a really nice area near Funchal. Walkable to many restaurants. The staff were really friendly and provided great service.

We had the superior ocean view room on the top floor which had amazing views and a private balcony with sun loungers.

Included breakfast buffet had a variety of nice food, good start to each day.

Free parking in the hotel.

Highly recommend staying here!

This hotel charges for “Spa” they don’t really have a spa. They have a sauna and steam room with a few “hot tubs” which are not hot. There was no spa experience we were left alone. I went to get water and they didn’t have any cups by the dispenser. When I got to front desk and mentioned it to the lady at front desk her answer was “you can buy water at the bar” That type behavior is not what I expect at a five star hotel. I wouldn’t stay there again.

Our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the ocean with beautiful views.
Our only issue was that the bed was very firm, although this was cured when the hotel added a mattress topper to the beds after mentioning this fact to Expedia.

The hotel is excellent.Rooms were spacious, we had a superior Ocean View Room, and were very clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Hotel is on a steep slope and overlooks the Ocean. Handy for the Lido (5 mins walk) but outdoor pool was clean and quite a big pool, with plenty of sunbeds on several levels for when the warmer weather arrives. We visited in January when it was still warm but pool not so important. It also has a nice indoor pool and a larger than usual gym for a hotel.

The promenade at Funchal is a healthy walk away, between 40 mins to an hour depending on whether you take a direct route or not and how fit you are to cope with the many slopes in and around Madeira. However, there is a bus stop and a taxi rank within 3-4 mins walk. Taxis cost about 7 euros to Funchal.

Hotel has a good breakfast buffet with plenty of options. Only ate in the hotel restaurant one night which was excellent and reasonably priced. The hotel were offering deals for those who wanted to stay on site for evening meals. However, there are many options for eating or a drink within a 10-15 minute walk. Plus many more the further towards Funchal centre you want to go.

The hotel was average. We were expecting more. We had some trouble at checking and that kind of set the tone. In one room the air conditioner didn't work. The view was beautiful though I had to request a room change to get the view that I'd paid to get. The staff was very friendly and Tina, the manager, was especially nice and did her best to rectify any mistakes. Overall the atmosphere of the hotel property was great. Just a little better upkeep in the rooms and better communication would help.

Im not sure why this is a five star hotel as my usual four star next door has more swimming pools, much bigger grounds with lovely gardens amd more restaurants to choose to eat in.

Our third visit to this hotel and as usual it was excellent. Staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It’s a nice walk, mostly downhill, to the centre of Funchal or there is a frequent and reliable bus service which stops a hundred metres from the front door. Breakfast has everything you’d want and although we didn’t eat in the restaurant in the evening it was an option and there are plenty of quality and affordable restaurants nearby.

Great location - close to a lot of restaurants and activities. Free parking which was nice. Room was very comfortable and a good size with a lovely terrace with a view of the water. The breakfast buffet has lots of selection but the quality was definitely lacking. This hotel is clearly popular with bus tours that stay there so keep that in mind.

I notified the front desk about the toilet flushing control & the noisy fan issues after my first night , I don't think anything were done. The fan was so noisy I couldn't get a good night sleep throughout my 4 nights. If I turned it off , then I could hear snoring from the next room & no air circulation in my room.

The maid left a dirty towel on the hanger in the bathroom 🤔. I know it's not mine since the shape was different.

I left the card for bed sheet change on the third day but nothing was changed.

I need to catch an early morning flight the morning of my departure and ask for a cup of coffee @ 7a, but was told it would not be available til 7:30a. Couldn't accommodate for such a small request.

First time I encountered for such service from hotels considered themselves as 4 stars and up.

Nice property and upscale amenities. The view is breathtaking and the room was modern and comfy. The breakfast was great with a lot of options. I tried the seafood dinner buffet and it was disappointing, one one kind of fish with turkey and bean soup!!! Any drinks even water or coffee was an extra pay, which I find is pretty cheap for such an upscale place. Other than that personal and amenities are great.

Hotel is in a very nice location with walking distance to many attractions, shopping and dining.

Hotel itself could do with a little updating with the times. There was no USB port to charge phones, luckily I had brought along a travel adapter but in this day and age all hotels should have USB plugs.

There was no clock in the room, a good feature in order to set any alarms if needed and even to see the time at a glance.

Asides, from these two aspects, hotel was very nice, the staff were nice and extremely helpful

The hotel was a revelation. I paid for a sea view room with a balcony and it was absolutely stunning. The views were incredible. The staff were supremely helpful and kind, always with a smile. Food was delicious and there were even gluten-free options. We used the Spa on the last day of our long weekend after a relaxing 80-minute massage. What a treat. The island is wonderful on so many levels and I would definitely go back and I’d choose the Melia Mare Madeira again. Thank you for the memories.

The \"royal suite\" was very large, well appointed and clean. Service efficient and polite.
Decor is understated and could be considered bland.
The breakfast was disappointing and we didn't dine at the restaurants.
There is plenty around, local restaurants supermarkets etc, and for practicality need to get a bus (easy) or taxi into Funchal central. Overall good value for money.

We liked the hotel in general, clean spacious room with a terrace overlooking the pool with great soundproofing....breakfast choice ,for us was a bit limited but overall ok. However we noticed people coming into breakfast with laptops and eating breakfast while surfing/working we found disconcerting and unusual for a hotel of this rating, there was a lounge on the approach to the breakfast room which they could of used prior or after dining...minor point but irritating to people on holiday.
One other point ,which is valid, there is no entrance on the lower road level below the hotel for people to use to enter the hotel, intead you have to walk up a very steep road either side to gain access , whuch can be quite tough......

Stayed in the Superior Sea view Room, large balcony with a provate feel - nice rooms overall.

The pool area was well served by the pool bar/restaurant in the day. The restaurant operates on a buffet service for breakfast and dinner with guests wearing plastic gloves, we took the option to have all meals included incase Madeira locked down and were happy to eat outside the hotel. Many good options nearby.

One thing that bugged me a little was that it wasnt so clear what was open and what wasnt. The gym was closed on hotels.com and the hotel website but their social media showed that it was open?

What makes these hotels is always the staff. I must mention Lenine, he was super friendly and made the hotel feel much more personal.

Overall 4* and we had a good stay.

Although we didn’t manage to enjoy the amenities in the hotel due to my husband becoming unwell. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. We were able to have our meals brought in our room daily. The food was great and the kitchen staff were amazing.
Also anytime we needed something, they were happy to provide.
Due to the current pandemic, our rooms were not cleaned everyday but they provided everything we need to make our stay comfortable.
We will recommend Melia Mare hotel and would love to return another time.

Meliá Madeira Mare was an absolute great place to stay! The room was large and clean. The Royal Suite was perfect for a week long stay as it had a full kitchen, table and chairs, and a large living room. The views from the room were stunning! The staff was also very pleasant! It is in a very good location.

It is in a very good location. Very nice hotel with excellent staff and good facilities. It is just below a little covered in shopping centre with fabulous laundry facilities which does pickup and drop off in necessary. The hotel is on a hill but so is everywhere else in Madeira! The pedestrian walkways outside the hotel and along the coastal area the hotel is situated is well maintained and very friendly for the not so mobile. All together a great place to base yourself and will return.

We had a five-day pleasant stay at the hotel. All was good except for our room overlooking the side road with occasional delivery lorries making a bit of noise. But not unbearable. There seemed to be a constant background noise from some air conditioning equipment somewhere, and again not unbearable. Sound insulation between rooms is very good and we did not hear anything from top, below or rooms either side. The corridors are laid to carpet so footsteps passing by are not heard.

We booked two partial sea view rooms, one of them was what you would expect from a 5* hotel but the other one was not up to the standard. Everything in the 2nd (much smaller) room was broken - electricity kept cutting out, the safe didn't work, shower holder was broken. We reported the issues and after half an hour of messing about we were eventually moved to another room for the first night - it was a even smaller room with no sea view. We were then moved back to the original room on our 2nd night - electricity cut out again so spent another half an hour \"fixing\" the problem. Not the level of service I expected from a 5* hotel.

It is a nice hotel built on a hillside. We found that the air conditioning was not working correctly but the shower was very nice. The hotel staff on Reception were very pleasant but they were not very proactive in refilling hot drinks at breakfast. There are a few nice places to eat close by to the hotel and a Spar supermarket at the top of the hill. It takes around 40 minutes to walk into Funchal but there are regular buses and the city tour buses pass nearby.

My Wife and I stayed at this Hotel recently and the location and Hotel was nice, but the Air Conditioning in the Hotel and Rooms were terrible at night, Some how the Hotel Turns off the Air Conditioning at around Midnight and the rooms become very hot and difficult to Sleep in and if you open the Patio Door you welcome Bugs in to the room which was very unpleasant to us. it took us 4 days off this before we can get an electric Air Fan to help with the heat in the rooms. Please be aware of this if you like AC for comfort.

The down side is that I Booked a non smoking room and it smelled like a Vegas smoker room, killed a roche in the room and to be honnest this hotel is not a five star hotel standards.
