I loved the fact that this property was in a very quiet neighborhood, yet a very short and pleasant walk to dining, shopping and sightseeing options downtown. The level of attentiveness and service from the staff is outstanding and breakfast is fantastic. This property exceeded all of my expectations and I would stay here again if I visit the Madeira Islands in the future.

Grounds were lovely. Beds comfortable. Constant hum in room audible.... A/C was off. Small TV on only piece of furniture in the room. We could have used more surface area to spread out. Surprised that small individual toiletries provided rather than larger, easier to use dispensers. Not very environmentally friendly. 1 hand towel was dirty on arrival. We were only staying 2 nights so didn't want room serviced ie less washing etc, so left no service sign on door. This was adhered to. However, on our return after evening meal, housekeeping had been in to do turn down and replenished all towels and empty bins....which we had tried to avoid in the morning. Just seems a waste of energy and resources. I do feel like we were not quite as well looked after/welcomed as others. We were mother/daughter guests.

Our third visit to this hotel.

The hotel is located within fabulous gardens and is simply wonderful. With the old manor house, the Italian pool, the banana plantation and so many different species of plants and trees, the hotel itself is a holiday.

It was lovely to see that breakfast in the Garden Pavilion had started again after covid, it is always a perfect way to start the day, wide choice and excellent service, and an al fresco breakfast in January overlooking the gardens is a real treat, compared to Atlantic gales in Cornwall. There is also a sizable enclosed by the garden outside swimming pool.

All the staff at the hotel are all excellent. They are friendly, attentive and tried their utmost to make our stay as perfect as possible. We were particularly pleased to see many familiar faces from previous stays, a true sign of a good hotel.

We have stayed in two types of their bedrooms and both offer good size, facilities and quality accommodation. We have not yet stretched to a stay in the manor house suites, but they look impressive.

We had a few days were we relaxed, late long breakfast, reading books, walking the gardens, etc and the rest of the time we spent in Funchal town and along the coast. Funchal is walking distance from the hotel (25 mins) and we did not submit and get a bus or taxi back up the steep drag from the town. The last hill is challenging on the way back but you can get a bus!

The standout point of this hotel are the extensive wonderful semi-tropical gardens. The hotel is comprised of various distinct buildings dotted around, giving a feel more of staying in a country estate.

The service is second to none, and staff are efficient and attentive.

The one downside is the spa and gym. Use of spa/sauna etc is by pre-booking in a short time-slot. So pretty well impossible to take a spontaneous sauna etc after using the onsite gym.

Beautiful place, the grounds were incredible and the staff was amazing. Skip the dinner at the hotel, and opt for somewhere in town (you can walk 30 minutes along the water to the old town). Also, the sauna is amazing but the steam room and gym make you feel like you went back into a different era…and feel super old.

Lovely stay in a tranquil garden setting

We loved our stay at this hotel. We spruced for a deluxe suite which had a massive room and even larger separate lounge area with sofa and dining table. The marble bathroom had a separate shower and bathtub (with jacuzzi feature) and his/hers sinks which is always handy when trying to get ready simultaneously - our one gripe was that the bathroom door kept seining open on its own (mgmt provided us with a door stop to keep this from happening) and the area outside the shower cubicle would get flooded due to poor design of the shower door (however this was usually cleaned up swiftly thanks to both the daytime housekeeping and turndown service). The gardens are the highlight of especially the quality of the gardens which you can wander around for hours taking note of the different flora and fauna (with each one being labelled for nerds like me)

A truly great hotel

My wife and I chose this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary, having found good reviews online, and we can happily say it met expectations and more.

The grounds are stunning - to stay centrally in a city and yet be surrounded by the plethora of plants and trees found in their botanical garden estate is amazing. You can stay in any room, and your views will be of nature, making for a peaceful stay.

The reception staff on arrival were polite, enthusiastic, and very helpful.

Our whole stay was thoroughly memorable. Notably, the breakfast is top quality, and the spa definitely worth spending some time in.

It is one of the few hotels we will readily look to return to.

This is a charming, peaceful and beautifully designed hotel. The staff are very helpful, the food is excellent and the facilities very good. The secluded pool is a treat - a good size and refreshing after a hot day. There is also a plunge pool at the front of the Mansion house. The modern design of the rooms works very well - lots of the rooms catch great sunshine and it is easy to just sit on the terrace or balcony of your room and soak it up.
The hotel is about 25mins walk from the centre of Funchal - easy walk down to the city, more strenuous up hill, but there are buses and taxis if you find that a bit too much.
The hotel helped arrange a dolphin watching trip. We also had treatments in the spa which were excellent.

First visit to Madeira and chose this hotel based on previous reviews.
Found the hotel to be excellent in all respects.
Located in beautiful gardens/grounds, with two swimming pools and various food options, it is only a short walk downhill to the Lido area, full of local restaurants and bars.
All staff from gardeners to waiters and reception staff were very friendly and approachable.
I could not find any fault whatsoever with this hotel.
Would certainly stay at this hotel again on our next visit to Madeira.

This was our third visit to Casa Branca and our stay was as good as before. This is a gem of an hotel in a most beautiful seting and with suberb service. All the staff are amazing and cannot do enough for you. Special mention to Marilia, Carolina and Gorete. Breakfast is amazing with all you could want on the cold buffet plus hot food cooked to order. Great restaurants within walking distamce and bus stop outside for trips into Funchal. Adult only pool is a haven for relaxation or sit outside your own room on sunbeds and enjoy the gardens. Very highly recommended and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

Great location in a park, yet convenient access to all Funchal attractions. Great service. Very good breakfast. It is a smaller hotel but with 5-star hotel conveniences like robe & slippers in the room, two swimming pools (sizes proportional to a smaller hotel), sauna & massages. A good restaurant menu for the evening dinner. However, if you are planning to stay within the hotel property for all your vacation perhaps there are better choices in Funchal that offer several restaurants and entertainment.

Classy conversion of an historic prestigious house

A tasteful blend of contemporary and traditional buildings, with our superior block room worth the extra money - larger and with a much better quality lounging area outside the patio doors. A nice, personal sized hotel as a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. Breakfast was intimate, uncrowded and orders of hot food came in seconds. The gardens are immaculate and there were ample staff everywhere throughout our stay attending both to maintaining the internal and external ambiance. Excellent service throughout; anybody else moaning in other reviews must be people who simply cannot be pleased, or who prefer to complain just for the sake of it. The gratis guest cocktail on Tuesday nights at 6pm is an example of how the hotel goes that much further than expected to ensure you have a superb experience.

Very comfortable, well run hotel set in 4 acres of beautifully tenses grounds with lots of interesting trees and plants. Two heated pools. The breakfast is one of the best we have ever had. Restaurant in the old quinta house is very good. Staff all speak excellent English and are friendly and efficient. Well positioned - 30 minute walk to central Funchal but lots of restaurants nearby.

We booked in just before Christmas. Hotel staff are exceptionally professional and lovely people. If they can help they will. Hotel grounds are stunning even in December. Communal areas are exceptional, they have tried to get that 'Quinta' feeling throughout with a modern twist. Breakfast was outstanding even for a vegetarian. Th only two things I would say need improving (and I am being picky) is the spa facilities and gym are basic and the room (garden room) although a great size is in need of some work. They lack the character that is reflected everywhere else in the hotel. If we had stayed in a 4 or 3 star we wouldn't have noticed but because everything else is so good the lack of fresh paint and character stands out in the rooms themselves. Thank you we loved it.

Oasis of calm

Lovely setting, small hotel feel, well located. The rooms are a little plain given the standard of the rest of the hotel. Food in the Manor House was hit and miss, some dishes excellent some decidedly not but the ambience is worth it. Housekeeping was poor in parts for this standard of hotel e.g. Dirty cups not removed from rooms , we had to do it ourselves after they had piled up for 2 days, odd considering the attention to detail with most things at the hotel. Disappointing to be told the swimming pool would be closed by a note under the door advance warning of this and some kind of compensation e.g. A complimentary drink or something would have made us feel better about it. That said the gardens were immaculate and made more a delightful peaceful stay, breakfast on the terrace outside in December makes for a lovely memory and I would definitely recommend the hotel above any others we saw .

Beautiful, stylish hotel offering top service

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at this stylish hotel set amongst lush green gardens. Service was excellent throughout and breakfasts were superb with a fabulous variety of hot and cold options including a great bread and pastries selection. Our premium garden room was spacious, comfortable and offered a great small terrace with daybed where we could sit and relax at the end of each day. We used the spa daily (steam room, sauna and jacuzzi) which was clean and well equipped. Overall this was a relaxing oasis of calm within the busy streets of Funchal.

Lovely hotel in beautiful gardens. Good choice at breakfast hot food cooked to order. Bar food excellent and good value. Staff in all areas very attentive. The only downside is that that smoking is allowed in all public areas which is probably true for all hotels in Madeira just not great if you are a non smoker.

Anyone looking for a first class ,friendly hotel need look no further than Quinta da Casa Branca. It's location is perfect for a peaceful stay in comfortable accommodation. The gardens are so pleasing to the eye with splashes of colour amongst the original banana trees. We found the staff friendly, very helpful, nothing was too much trouble as befits a five star establishment.

We stayed here in April 2015 and wanted to return this April. The hotel has expanded its operation by restoring the original manor house, and relocating the dining room there. The building that used to house the dining room is now a very convenient bar which serves appetizing snacks for those who do not want anything more substantial. The staff are just as friendly and helpful as before, the bedrooms just as luxurious and the breakfasts are 'to die for'. Will we return? Absolutely!

Number 1 Hotel In Funchal

We had a fabulous relaxing time in this amazing hotel set among beautiful gardens in a peaceful oasis just outside the centre of Funchal but still within 20 min walking distance or a short taxi ride into the centre. Lovely restaurants and bars close by if you don't want the walk into town. All the staff in the hotel were so friendly, helpful and efficient especially the welcoming breakfast staff. Breakfast was a lovely experience sitting outside in the garden with the sun shining. Premier room was first class, spacious with a nice balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens. Look no further book this hotel and you will love the calm and tranquility.

Lovely hotel set in beautiful gardens,all the staff were very polite and pleasant.The location would not be to everyone's liking as it is at the top of a hill a one mile walk into town,but taxis are plentiful and are quite cheap.There are several good restaraunts close enough to walk to.Overall a very good holiday.

Beautiful hotel with helpful and friendly staff

Lovely hotel in beautiful garden surroundings-plus really well maintained gym and spa facilities- but the best aspect was the friendly and attentive service from the excellent staff- would definitely recommend. (try dinner in the linked Manor House at least once in your stay- expensive but worth it !

Luxury hotel, in private gardens beautifully kept

Our first stay in Madeira, quiet rooms in low rise architect designed building, with traditional buildings in the Quinta used for dining, to a very high standard.
Surroundings exceptional, far removed from the standard concrete block hotels which proliferate in the Lido and the rest of the hotel quarter.

Contemporary elegance and old style service

We stayed at Quinta de Casa Branca for a week and wish it could have been longer. The hotel is in a series of buildings across the estate gardens and includes modern contemporary buildings with terraces or balconies with sun loungers and classic rooms in the old owner's house. the pavilion cafe serves great breakfasts with tables on a terrace which we were lucky enough to get most days. It also serves lunches, and coffee later in the day. The furnishing is of a high standard, the cleanliness is perfect and everyday there were gardeners maintaining the beautiful lush gardens. The swimming pool is heated so even on the cooler days you can have a dip without freezing and it has plenty of loungers. It is also surrounded by a bougainvillea fence so is secluded and private. The Casa de Quinta restaurant Has a great reputation for guests and visitors alike. The staff are attentive and helpful without being obtrusive. No faults at all and we hope to go back again and again!

Real oasis - superb!

I just celebrated my 70th birthday here for a few days, having stayed before, ten years ago. It was even better than I had remembered. Such a beautiful setting, much the better for being just outside Funchal in its own grounds. So beautiful, calm and relaxing. The staff could not have been nicer on my birthday when they discreetly presented me with a little chocolate cake complete with candle. In the afternoon they had put a bottle of sparkling wine in the room and also gave us complimentary glasses of champagne before dinner in the absolutely beautiful new restaurant situated in an old manor house in the grounds. The rooms are superb, complete with balcony and lounging beds, overlooking the gardens. It really was a special experience.
